No audio input on vocal tracks

I've tried to get my voice into a song but so far have had no luck. Neither the internal mike works nor my AK5370 USB mic (so says SysPrefs; it's actually a vXi TalkPro xPress headset mic).
I checked the Sound in SysPrefs and my input goes through fine. But when I hit record on the Male Basic vocal track in GarageBand, nothing goes through. (I have a soft voice and raising the input levels didn't help any).

I have that same Labtec Mic, and I remember experimenting with it and found sometimes it worked with GB and sometimes it didn't. I never found the pattern and since that mic wasn't going to be used professionally with GB, I never put TOO much effort into tracking it down.
So let's see if we can't the internal mic to work. Select it in your System Prefs, then open up GB's prefs and make sure the Input popUp menu is set to "Built-In"
Finally create a New Basic Track, make sure this track is selected, and try recording. Post back and let us know what happens.

  • Upgraded to 7.3.1 and audio files are corrupted -- missing vocal tracks

Just upgraded a work computer to itunes 7.3.1 and my music files are now playing without vocal tracks and very poor audio quality.
it's a cheapo work computer, HP with a celeron processor.
    Any suggestions?

Same problem here. upgrade seemed to go OK, but audio quality in library songs is crap.
Demo tunes from itunes store sound great, so it seems my library is corrupted.

  • Trying to add audio narrative to a Slideshow via vocal track on Garageband-won't take. How can I do this for illiterate friend?

I have set up a Slideshow on iDVD with the intention of adding a narrative and burning a dvd, so a friend of mine who can neither read nor write will be able to watch the pictures while listening to the narrative.  I have produced a narrative by using the Male Vocal track on Garageband, but when I try to drop the result into the Audio box at the base of the Slideshow Edit Window, it won't take. I know that only certain types of audio will work, but I thought Garageband would do the job.
If I can't do it that way, how can I make a suitable narrative without putting it separately onto a cassette tape?
Using an iBook G4, running OSX 10.4.11– the latest system I can run.

Save the Garageband track as an aiff or mp3 file and use that.

HEY MODS... who is posting the support article number in the header...
The one posted in this topic is evem more unhelpful than some of my curt replies.
Bad idea, most of Logic's problems are not covered by support articles.

Just downloaded Yosemite on my Mac and the Yosemite update for Garage Band.  Now when I open an existing Garage Band project and click on a vocal track, a message window says, "Could not find General Audio 10" and have no smart controls for that track (reverb, etc.)  Help?

Re: I downloaded Garage Band 2x and the same note appears: there is no General Audio 10. Please advise. Thank you.
Try this: Go to your menu bar, select "Garageband" and then "Restore Sound Library..."
It can take awhile to download as it's a pretty big library. You might need to also select "Update Sound Library..." after the restore is done.

  • Cant record into to logic pro 9 using samson l1200 live mixer, System/Pref/Audio input tab says selected device has no input control

Hi Im new to this so bare with me..When I connect my Samson l1200 live usb mixer to my Imac 7,1 Intel duo core 3gb ram, osx10.6.8, via usb cable to record vocals/instruments, in System Pref/Audio/Output tab is set to mixer's UsbAudioCodec driver, (Im able to hear playback into headphones via the mixer, and hear the mic when spoken into it but cant record a track into Logic...System/Pref/Audio input tab says selected device has no input control, Ive set the input/output settings in Logic to UsbAudioCodec but still no good...Would it be either the way the mixer is set up? or is this mixer (Samson l1200) not compatible with my particular Imac? I hope I may be able to help as Im only a student trying to record my band thanks

    I perfectly understand your problem.
First... just to make sure, in Logic's preferences /Audio make sure Universal Track Mode IS checked, it should be enabled. (I think it probably is just checking)
Second... if you record a track in a new Logic project and then go to the next track to record an overdubbed guitar part, are both parts recorded on the 2nd track?
What I'm asking is overdubbing working differently for two or three recorded tracks as opposed to overdubbing with an imported track.
What I think is happening is you have the main stereo output being recorded into Logic so if you playback an imported or recorded track from Logic while recording a 2nd track (overdub), both are going to be recorded on the 2nd track.
I took a look at the manual, here's the relevant sections.
34 – SEND – USB input send switch
The USB INPUT switch allows you to select one of
two stereo (or two channel) signal paths to feed the
USB output to send to the connected PC. When the
INPUT switch is in the up position, the USB signal will
feed from the MAIN left right mix. When the INPUT
switch is in the down position, the USB signal will
feed from the AUX 1 and AUX 2 buses which enables
you to create a unique mix to send to the PC.
    35 – RETURN – USB return switch
The USB RETURN switch allows you to select one of
two stereo return paths to receive USB audio from
the connected PC. When the ASSIGN switch is in the
up position, the USB signal will return to the MAIN
mix bus. When the ASSIGN switch is in the down
position, the USB signal will return to the last pair
of stereo channels which enables you to playback a
recorded track in the MAIN mix, and you can use the
channels AUX sends to feed any of the AUX buses.
This will let you hear the USB playback tracks in the
    monitor mixes.
36 – MONITOR – USB headphone enable switch
Press the USB MONITOR switch down if you want
to hear the signal from the USB return in the
    headphones.

  • What is wrong with my vocal tracks

I keep having terrible sounding vocal tracks on my GB recordings, They seem to be very inconsistent volumes and sound shrill. Also on the vocal track the clipping light keeps lighting up even when they are not loud enough in relation to the track. I have turned all the other tracks down by double digit db but still the vocals are weak. I am using Shure SM57 and MXL V63M and neither is performing well but at first I thought it was my MXL which had been damaged. Then I thought it was my interface Presonus Firebox so I tried running a tube preamp into my input jack which sounded much worse. Any idea how I can fix this or at least troubleshoot it to find out what is going wrong here, because quite frankly I am running out of ideas...

Yes well I have recorded for a while with these settings with better results. I am thinking of getting a Rode mic and another interface anyways but have no idea with one would be ideal and yes I am on a budget but have been able to get a lot out of my gear for the money it seems now that the vocals are getting like a echo or reverb sound without any effects used. This leads me to believe it is the condenser that is somehow damaged.
When you record vocals, is your mic picking up your monitor? The mic wouldn't echo by itself, but sometimes if the audio is simultaneously coming out of a speaker, either the computer's speaker, your monitors, or even your headphones, the mic can sometimes pick it up as an echo (yet not develop a feedback loop).

  • Vocal Track

I have GB 09. I can record guitar track with no problems. When try to record vocal, audio is always low and I get a hiss. Use studio mic -xlr-to audio input. My question. Is there something I'm not doing? Or do I need a audio mixer or something of that sort. I'm not a proff. musician. Thanks

  • What's the difference between an audio INPUT and AUX object?

Can someone explain the difference between an audio INPUT and AUX object? They both seems to do pretty much the same thing ... when would you use 1 over the other?

    revDave:
Suppose you're recording a guitar track and you want to add a very gentle compressor to avoid overload during the rec process. you need an audio input channel with a compressor inserted. this way, your guitar will be recorded with the compressor processed. If you use audio and midi gear and want to bounce your material, put all your midi audio in an audio input channel. This way, you don't have to use a real audio channel to record them. You can hear them, even use some plugins, and have them bounced with your audio channels.
Now, suppose you recorded three vocal channels, and want to use an equalizer. You need an aux object to send your vocal channels and use only one eq. This is very useful when you have similar materials recorded in diferent channels (2 guitars, vocals, pete/sax/bone, and so on). Send their outs to an aux object, insert the fx you want, and set the aux object's out to the main out of your project, and it's done.
    I hope it helps you.

  • Sending vocal tracks to an Aux channel with reverb

Sorry for this question that may have been answered somewhere else.
I'm trying to add a single reverb plug-in to 6 vocal tracks. I've bussed all 6 to an Aux channel via bus 1, setting the input of the Aux channel to bus 1. No sound. I can't seem to find the correct routing. Anyone know the answer to this simple task. I'm coming from ProTools where I had no problem with this.
    Thanks.

Are you actually sending some of each of the six tracks to the bus?
(little knobs next to the bus assignment under "sends")
Do you have the Aux or any of the 6 tracks muted?
DO you have the master muted?

  • Audio Input Objects not showing up

I cannot see the Audio Input Objects in the Environment window. I can't even turn newly created audio objects into audio input objects, as the input channels are not listed on the audio object's parameter box (everything else seems to be listed: track, aux, instrument, rewire, output, and bus). And even when I go into the Track Mixer, INPUT is still not listed on the left column (the track filter). Am I missing something really obvious here? The Logic Express 7 reference manual doesn't seem to mention this problem. Can anyone help me with this one?

There is no Audio Input Objetcs in LE.

  • Multiple Audio Inputs

I have two USB microphones which I use for home studio recording. I want to have two different 'Real Instrument' tracks, recording from each different microphone (one track recording from one mic, and the other track from the other mic), but in the GarageBand preferences I have to choose just one audio input. I would like to know how I can have two inputs to work simultaneously, and if I can also record with the two mics at the same time?

thanks for trying. i tried repairing the permissions but i cant open Disk Utility (parental controls - im 13), but somehow (im no expert) i doubt it would do much difference.
if it makes any difference ill be a bit more detailed. i only have four 'devices' listed: 'built-in input', 'built-in output', 'logitech usb microphone', and 'generic usb audio device'. when i click the plus button, the aggregate device bar appears below these four for a second, then disappears. i can see it says'0 in / 0 out' underneath (but i dont know what that means). i dont know if this info is any use. thank you for your help

  • SM-58/audio input problem

Hi. I don't know if this is the right forum, but it's worth a shot. I am at my wit's end.
I have an SM-58 vocal mic, which I used to use through my macbook with a Blue Icicle interface. I then purchased a Line 6 UX1 guitar interface, with PodFarm software, which I then linked to GarageBand. At first I had no problem recording in GarageBand using my SM-58 routed through the UX1. At some point, however, the computer stopped receiving a signal from the mic.
At this point, I no longer receive any input signal from my mic, whether I'm in GarageBand, PodFarm, or simply in the system preferences>sound input window. And the thing, is I know the mic is fine - it works fine through analog gear. I know all the other equipment is fine, too, since it works with my guitar. So what happened to my mic sound? Why does the computer no longer pick anything up? If anyone can help, I would be extremely grateful... I'm lost.

But when I plug the output of the Radio Shack controller into the audio input of the iMac, it captures only one end (my end) of the conversation.
Where did you previously connect that output, when it works properly?
Is it coming over only on the left or right channel?
You may be able to control the audio input more precisely using the +Audio Midi Setup+ utility (in the Utilities folder).

  • Audition 3.0 Sound Blaster Fatal1ty card audio input ASIO issues

I just installed a Sound blaster extreme gamer fatal1ty pro sound card. I've got it working but when I try to open Audition #.0, I get the error about audio input not activated. I can play but I can't record. when I try to, I get a message about the ASIO driver is invalid and change settings in audio hardware. When I go there, the option for input is greyed out. I can record in Audition 1 without any problem so I think I've got the sound card installed properly. Also, I did an upgrade from a Audigy card that worked but had a lot of lag in voice tracking. Any thoughts? Thanks

Download ASIO4ALL, install it and you should be good to go.

Consumer cards like the X-Fi/Audigy series from Creative Labs are not good choices for recording. They're great at gaming (I have an X-Fi on my game machine) and playing movies on your PC but for professional audio applications one needs a professional audio card.
