No audio is coming from my subwoofer, X-fi Platnum edit

No audio is coming from my subwoofer, instead its coming from the center speaker. This was in the diagnostics test for my speaker set up. But, in the THX Surround Sound setup, I would get audio out of the subwoofer, like it should be. I have double checked all of the wire and plugs making sure they are inserted into the right jack. I have done a repair install for everything on the setup disk and i don't know where to go from here. Help would be very nice. Thank You for your time.
Pentium 4 3.0 w/hyperthreading
X800 pro oc from 475 to 565
2 gigs of ram
Intel d95pbl mother board, (very unfortunate)
X-fi platinum edition
Ati capture card

I upgraded to the new final release drivers (was using the beta version) and still no output from the optical out.
I resat the internal ribbon cable on both ends, checked all the pins (none bent), and reseated the power connector.
Still no output from optical. I'm beginning to think I might have a bad board or breakout box.
Since I've gotten no responses from anyone I guess it's time to use my "complementary" tech support call :P

  • Creative I-Trigue L3800 Sound Only Coming From Subwoofer

    Hey all.
    Just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to why the sound is only coming through the subwoofer on a set of these speakers I have been using.
    Checked so far:
    Audio Cable connecting PC to Speaker system.
    Sound settings in Windows 7 (balance etc).
    Unplugged all speakers/control thingy etc and plugged back in.
    I am certain the problem is somewhere inside the subwoofer itself as I was watching something the night before they seemed to 'die'. I literally turned the PC back on this morning to watch something and the sound is now only coming from the subwoofer. I've taken the PCB out of the subwoofer to look for any obvious signs of damage but I'm not an electrician or a speaker expert. The only thing I can see is a slow-blow fuse which looks fine, and I'm guessing that if this were the culprit there would be no sound whatsoever.
    Any ideas? Obviously these are an old set of speakers but if there are any diagnostics I can do to perhaps find the cause and fix it, any help would be greatly appreciated as I currently have no decent device to play sound through.
    Thanks in advance.

    mattbell_5,
    Have you try using headphone on the laptop headphone jack and make sure that's working. If possible try plugging the speaker to another audio device like a MP3 player headphone jack and see whether the speaker is working properly.

    okay i installed the officiall driver on your first link. im not interested in extra features at the moment....im more concerned with just getting sound out of all my speakers. i uninstalled the creative driver i had. then i used a utility called Driver Sweeper to get rid of all registry keys, software, etc. i turned off the auto driver install thing, and then rebooted. i ran the setup.exe and it installed everything without errors. i rebooted, and when i came back, i had sound from my sub, my right rear speaker, and my center channel. so its acting as a 2. but instead of having my front right and left being the 2 speakers....my center channel and rear right are acting as my 2 speakers. i have done everything i know to do in order to get sound.
    i moved some of the speaker wires that directly into the sub around, and was able to get sound from my front right speaker and center channel, and sub. but all that did was move the sound to another speaker. i still only have 2.. i've changed it to 5. in the Creative Audio Console, as well as the control panel>sound. i am at a loss for what to do. seems like not many are having problems with not getting sound at all. any more help?

  • Audio coming from only one field

    Hello,
    I just did a mic'ed interview with my little camera. I was wearing headphones and noticed audio coming from only the left side, but there was nothing I could do about it that I was aware of.
    Anyway, now that this thing is in Final Cut Express, is there anything I can do to apply the left track to the right track? Or would this make it sound funky or how does it work?
    Thanks very much,
    Jeremy

    Ah, I see. I just used 'Pan' and set it from -1 to 0. Cool.
    This can be deleted or left for reference, I don't care.

    This is OK because the Conexant sound chip does not support other sources
    Ive got a unit with Realtek sound chips and with Conexant sound chip.
    The Realtek support the recording from other sources but Conexant doesnt.

  • In the past I have viewed video from my iPhone and iPad with 8.3 on my Sony TV with AppleTV Gen 1. Now I have audio coming from my Sony TV but NO video. AirPlay is ON to AppleTV. Suggestions?

    I have an iPhone 5 with iOS 8.3 and I have an AppleTV Gen 1 that is connected to a Sony TV and I have viewed photos from my iPhone before but now I only hear audio that comes from my iPhone on the Sony TV but no video. iPhone's AirPlay is ON to AppleTV. Why don't I have video? Same thing happens with iPad Air

    AIrplay is not supported on 1st gen, I assume you have a 2nd gen (black box). Not all apps are enabled for AirPlay, this would be up to the developers to do

  • Red light coming from my audio output, speakers not working

    I read somewhere about wiggling a toothpick around in there, but that didn't work, any other ideas.
    This happened after I had a 1/4 to 1/8 converter plugged in there to use a little mini amp.
    I've lost the use of speakers.
    headphones work fine
    I think the optical input is still reading as if something is plugged in. Not sure if there's something in my system I need to switch, or if I need to take it in, have the jack opened up and replaced

    Just to rule out the obvious make sure your mute switch (F3) is not on. If your 'switch is stuck' you would see a red light coming from the headphone port.
    Double check your Sys Prefs - Sound settings ...if things still are not working you might try a SMC reset followed by a Pram reset that would restore your orig. settings.

  • Some of my contacts are recieving FaceTime or FaceTime audio requests that I am not making but are coming from the assigned iCloud email address that I do not use for FaceTime

    A few of my contacts are recieving FaceTime or FaceTime audio requests generating from my iCloud email address. Additionally some of my contacts, including my husband are recieving texts that say they are generated from me (as their contact) but I am not texting nor do I have access to that particular thread and I am not recieving all of my iMessages from another one of my contacts, but she shows that they are sent. This all seems to be related to a single issue and Im starting to freak out that my apple account or a portion of it was hacked.
    A few months ago my husband, out of town, initiated a FaceTime session and someone else answered it, and hung up. He then initiated it again and this time it came through and I answered it. At that time I changed my apple ID password. But now it seems like I am having similar if not escalating issues with this. What do I do?

  • Some strange sounds coming from my laptop...

    Hi, there. Lately my iBook G4 laptop has been making some odd noises, and I was wondering if they were serious. First, sometimes when it is lifted, such as from a lap onto a desk, the cd drive sounds like it is attempting to eject a CD, but there isn't one in the drive. This has been going on for about a month, but only happens occasionally and not every time it is lifted, so I kind of forgot about it. Today, I noticed another noise that sounded like the back-and-forth motion of an inkjet printer head, coming from roughly the center of the computer below the keyboard. It was sitting on my lap at the time and the noise stopped when I put it on my desk. It wasn't loud, but it wasn't the type of noise you would want to hear coming from your computer. I think there may be a part loose that is causing the noises.
    The laptop was purchased new in mid-2005, and had been upgraded from 256MB to 1GB RAM last year. I'm very gentle with it, close the lid slowly and carefully after shutting down, and on the rare occasions when it leaves my desk it travels in a padded case to prevent it being jostled or damaged. It had been dropped once by a careless friend over a year ago, but it seemed fine and I noticed no problems with it afterwards or up until now. I don't use p2p programs or make changes to the operating system files, though I do have a few custom icons (only on folders on my desktop) and fonts. I have about 16GB of free space out of 60. I don't think software would be the cause of the issue, but you never know.
    Right now I'm backing up my files on a 320GB SeaGate external drive, in case my problem is catastrophic and I need to format or my drive fails. What would be the best way to back up everything I need to make my computer exactly how it was before a format? Right now I am copying the Macintosh HD folder right onto my external drive. Is there a better way to do it that will allow me to easily replace libraries, preferences and settings along with my personal documents? My father mentioned "imaging" or "ghosting", but he works with PCs and I'm not sure how to do that on a Mac.
    So anyway, here's a post summary. My computer sometimes tries to eject a CD that isn't there when it is moved, and today it made the aforementioned "inkjet printer head" noise until I put it on a level surface. What should I do, send it in to have a tech look at it? Since it seems to me like a hard drive issue, what's the best way to back up my computer such that all my preferences, bookmarks, libraries, and settings can be easily restored? My apologies if my post seems lengthy, I just wanted to give as many details as possible to provide background and be specific.

    I've noticed a similar issue.
    My external speakers blew recently, and up until this point I've never had a problem listening to audio. So I started using my internal speaker until I found new external speakers. Now the internal speaker is blown as well, after only a few days of use. Audio comes out of the internal speaker as clicks (cah-chunk).
    I'm wondering if there were some updates recently that caused this. I basically have no audio on my Mac Pro now, which is really aggravating.
    I have the early 2009 Mac Pro

  • Sound coming from both speakers and headphones at the same time in probook 4440s

    I have a Probook 4440s with windows 8 pro(64 bit) with IDT high definition codec installed. Yesterday when i was playing some songs i noticed that the sound was coming from both headphones and speakers even when my headphones are plugeed in and my lappy was having no such problems a few hours earliers while i was watching a movie. Please help..

    It may be because you have both the internal speakers and headphones enabled at the sametime on your laptop. This might just happen automatically when you plug your headphones in. You need to manage your audio devices on your laptop.
    Go to Control Panel> Hardware and Sounds> Manage Audio Devices> Playback Tab (which should already be selected)
    In the playback tab there should be a list of all the audio devices you are using on your computer. Right click on the one you don't want to use and click disable. This should stop the sound coming from that audio device.
    Remember: You will need to enable that audio device if you want to listen to sound through it again. Your internal speakers won't work once you enable them again. This might also be the case with your headphones. You may also have to do this every time your plug in a device or once you restart your computer.
    Another note: Sometimes disabled devices will not show up on the audio device list so once you disable a device it will dissappear. This is an easy fix too. Just right click on an audio device and make sure show disabled devices and show disconnected devices is checked.
    I hope this helps.
    (I was using a computer with Windows XP to explain the instructions but it should be similar with your Windows Operating System. You may however have to play around a little on your computer because it may be slightly different)

    Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Have you tried resetting the PMU?
    I'm not optimistic that this will help any more than the procedures you've already tried, but it won't hurt to try.
    Do you still have your OS 9 installation? If so, try booting into OS 9 and see if the problems with the audio are happening there, too. If so, you can bet it's a hardware problem.
    How big is your hard drive and how much space remains available on it? If you don't have your OS 9 installation in order to check out whether it's a hardware problem and you have enough available hard drive space, you may want to try an Archive and Install of the OS in order to make sure it isn't an OS X system-wide problem. If that doesn't do it, you could back up your hard drive and restore your software.
    All of this may just be spinning your wheels, but it's all stuff you can try before shelling out a lot of money for repairs.

  • Where is source data coming from?

    Hi,
    I've cobbled togeher a working app (based on some examples found on the net). The application works well, but I have one specific question as to why it works!
    The application takes data from the mic on my pc and saves it to a file. I can play back this file through standard media player and it obviously has worked as I can hear the recording again.
    I'm using a TargetDataLine to record the audio to a file. I get this from an appripriate mixer. To do this, I have the following method to provide me with an appropriate mixer:
    <pre>
    private Mixer getMixerSupportingDataLine(DataLine.Info dataLineInfo) {
              Info[] mixerInfoArray = AudioSystem.getMixerInfo();
              for (int i=0; mixerInfoArray!=null && i<mixerInfoArray.length; i++) {
                   Mixer.Info mixerInfo = (Mixer.Info)mixerInfoArray;
                   Mixer mixer=AudioSystem.getMixer(mixerInfo);
                   if (mixer.isLineSupported(dataLineInfo)) {
                        System.out.println("mixer info="+mixerInfo.getName());
                        return mixer;
              return null;
    </pre>
    Now the parameter I pass into this method comes form the following code:
    <pre>
    audioFormat = getAudioFormat();
    DataLine.Info dataLineInfo =
    new DataLine.Info(
    TargetDataLine.class,
    audioFormat);
    private AudioFormat getAudioFormat(){
         float sampleRate = 8000.0F;
         int sampleSizeInBits = 16;
         int channels = 1;
         boolean signed = true;
         boolean bigEndian = false;
         return new AudioFormat(sampleRate,
         sampleSizeInBits,
         channels,
         signed,
         bigEndian);
    </pre>
    So I have a mixer that I know supports the kind of TargetDataLine that I want. So I get a targetDataLine from the mixer:
    <pre>
    targetDataLine = (TargetDataLine)mixer.getLine(dataLineInfo);
    </pre>
    I can then open the line and read data from it, save it to a file, and all is fine.
    So my question is this:
    Nowhere in my code do I specify where the data (that ends up in my TargetDataLine) is coming from. I've not specified that it should come from a mic, or line-in, or any other physical device. It just magically reads data from my mic.
    When I query my mixer to see its sources:
    <pre>
    System.out.println(" capturing and mixer has this many source lines:"+mixer.getSourceLineInfo().length);
    System.out.println(" mixer info"+mixer.getMixerInfo());
    System.out.println(" source lines open"+mixer.getSourceLines().length);
    System.out.println(" mixer open:"+mixer.isOpen());
    System.out.println(" mixer controls:"+mixer.getControls().length);
    </pre>
    I see that there are no sources!
    <pre>
    mixer info=Microsoft Sound Mapper
    capturing and mixer has this many source lines:0
    mixer infoMicrosoft Sound Mapper, version Unknown Version
    source lines open0
    mixer open:true
    mixer controls:0
    </pre>
    I really want to understand this, as it seems fundamental. If the mixer has no source lines, how is it getting data from the mic?! Surely there must be a way to query the mixer to find the data source.
    Can anyone help me understand this fundamental point?
    Many thanks,
    Martin

    I see that there are no sources! Source and Target lines are what the user uses to write and read data from the line (respectively)... For example, the port that's actually associated with the microphone will have zero source lines, because you're not allowed to write to the microphone...but it gets data from the microphone, behind the scenes.
    So, fundamentally, just remember that just because you can't write to it doesn't mean it doesn't take in data. It often times means it's hard coded to read a specific stream of data.
    In this case, the stream of data is probably the default recording device specified in Windows...
