No audio, just sound when streaming to apple tv

I have had my apple tv for some time now and it has all been plain sailing untill now.
I have always came in, turned on my macbook pro, hit the stream button and streamed the internet, music etc to my apple tv which is connected to my tv via a hdmi cable.
Yesterday it worked fine however today I have turned it on and the audio is working however i get a black screen when i chose to stream to my apple tv.
As i said the audio works.
If i chose to stop streaming it reverts from the black screen to the main apple tv log in screen
any ideas?

You're not the only one. I'm having the same problem, currently no solution is known.

  • Clicking sound when streaming audio in Safari

    hello,
has anybody ever experienced a clicking sound when streaming audio over the internet? i have no idea where to begin to fix this problem.
    amber

    Dear Amber,
I am experiencing the same problem on my iMac G5 when I am streaming movies from ANY browser AND when I watch trailers on Front Row.
I think the QuickTime plugin has a problem streaming audio while the movie downloads, especially when the file is large (as in the case of Front Row streaming movies, where the files are all HD).
If other applications are open concurrently, the problem is even more noticeable, because QuickTime 7 consumes a lot of resources and if you do not have enough RAM (and 512 MB does not seem to be enough with OS X 10.4.4) it will strive to perform.
You may check how much memory is used by your computer by opening the Acivity Monitor utility.
I hope Apple will become aware of the problem and suggest a workaround, because otherwise QT 7 is exceptional.
    Ciao,
    Alessandro

  • Intermittant audio static/distortion when streaming video

New member seeking solution to an annoying problem. When
streaming video sites such as Youtube, MSN videos, and other video
sites, the audio has intermittent static, much like a radio station
that isn't fully tuned in. I have a laptop with an external sound
card, and it does it through it hooked to a small stereo system, as
well as the laptop's built-in soundcard and speakers. I have
updated the Flash player, and tried completely uninstalling and
reinstalling the sound drivers. Next thing, I am going to totally
uninstall Adobe Flash and try reinstalling it to see if it takes
care of the problem. By the way, it does it with both Internet
Exploder and Firefox. Any suggestions are welcome.
    Sincerely,
    John

The same thinks happens to me,
    Thank you.

  • No audio (just beeping) when adding clip to timeline

Hi. I am almost brand-new to FCE, so hopefully this is just an easy error on my part. I am trying to make an insert edit, and the video is making it into the timeline just fine. However, there is no audio, just a loud beeping sound. Yes, the a1 and a2 tracks ARE connected, and volume is not muted. I did know to check that much. Still no audio, just beeping. Can anybody tell me what to do next?
    Thanks!

I'd suggest your best bet is to use MPEG Streamclip, a free utility (http://www.squared5.com/), to convert all your dv files to QuickTime using the settings which match your FCE Sequence.  Streamclip has a batch convert feature.

  • No sound when streaming audio through USB to car stereo *solved*

Short version: Many months ago my wife and I had iPhone 4s with AT&T and my phone would playing streaming apps (Pandora, Slacker) over USB to my Pioneer head unit and my Ford SYNC while my wife's would not. There was no error given, it appeared to be playing fine-- there would just be no sound.
Fast forward to present and I have a Verizon iPhone 4 and I am getting the same issues as my wife was having previously.
After much forum reading about iOS4 breaking this functionality for many people across the globe with many makes and models of stereos and cars I realized I was not getting the same error as all of these people. I was getting NO error at all; I just wasn't getting any sound out of these apps.
I read a post about how a random song would kick on when they connected their phone to the car, then it hit me. My old iPhone used to do that. Then THIS hit me. I do not have any mp3s synced to this phone. Nor did my wife back then.  So I threw a handful of songs onto my iPhone and sure enough it immediately chose a song at random, started playing it and then I switched to Slacker radio and it faded down the iPod song and started streaming the audio from Slacker.
tl;dr version: If streaming apps are not playing any sound through your USB cable. Make sure you have some songs synced to your iPhone.

I found a solution, reset all settings.  Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings
Fixed the problem, now back to properly streaming music!

  • When streaming using apple tv i have no volume on the tv although it works fine with audio

Home Sharing streams music from iTunes on a Mac or PC to Apple TV, an iPad, iPhone, etc.

  • No sound when streaming purchased movies

I suspect this is a recent software and/or iTunes update bug.  When I try to stream a purchased movie through ATV, there is no sound via HDMI.  Same movies worked fine last week before updates.  The TV (Sharp Aquos) indicates "incompatible audio signal."  Now here's the crazy thing - when I try to stream the same movies via Home Sharing from my computer, same thing!  Netflix seems to work fine, as does previews and trailers from Apple.  No problems streaming from my computer to iPad1 or 2, or downloading to iPads. I've done all the restarts, resets, and re-authorizations.  Any other suggestions for a workaround or do I have to wait until the next update?  Is it posible to reload the previous version of ATV software and iTunes?

Not really sure I would call it a bug, if your TV can't handle Dolby Digital and can't let the Apple TV know that, then Dolby Digital needs to be turned off.

  • Out of sync audio and visual when streaming

over the last week all streaming through netflix, BBC iplayer and YouTube appsthe audio and video out of sync. The visual lag behind gets progressively further behind the longer you watch.   Anyone having this problem and got a fix?  Thanks

    Hey Gem_stone,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there is an issue with audio and video being out f sync in several apps on your iPad. The article linked below provides a lot of general troubleshooting tips that will resolve most issues like that.

  • Mac goes to sleep even when streaming to Apple TV?!

    Hello everyone,
I just recently bought the Apple TV (3rd gen) to compliment my rMBP and am loving it.
I keep iTunes open with my Mac on, especially when I know I'm going to be streaming. However, my Mac seems to doze off half way through streaming a TV show, or a movie (usually something with a long play time). Macs have always just connected and "worked" for me so it seems strange that the ATV wouldn't just wake my Mac when I select Home Sharing.
If the show stops playing, sometimes if I go back and select Home Sharing again it will wake my Mac.. but often I get this message:
"Turn On Home Sharing in iTunes
To access your iTunes library on Apple TV, turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer using <email>."
My Mac's energy savings are set to sleep after 1  hour, it's always plugged in. iTunes is always open. Do I have to set energy savings to 'always on' if I want it to serve the ATV whenever In want? I thought the ATV would be clever enough to wake the Mac when it wants something, which would save a lot of energy - and as I said it does work on occasion. As I have a connected USB hard drive I'm trying to do it this way instead of having an always-on NAS.
I should probably add that I'm using an AirPort Extreme with the correct firmware required to have the whole wake-over-wifi stuff.
    Advice please :o)

seems to be a bug. What I have done is set my computer to necer sleep and the display to sleep after 3 mins
This way the Apple TV works but I do not have a bright Computer system shining at me while I am watching TV

  • No sound when streaming video/au

I've seen many people have the same problem but no solutions were found. So, let me try again...
Sound works great when playing audio/video files from my computer but there's no sound from internet, like youtube, google video,...
I have X-FI Extreme Music soundblaster, using Windows XP.
Oh, and one more thing... It seems that when I play music in Winamp and at the same time a video on youtube it works. I just hear everything at the same time.
PLEASE, if anyone knows a solution... Thanks!

Have you set the X-Fi as preferred playback device (you can also 'lock' this setting by enabling the "use preferred devices only" setting) in Windows Audio settings (Start Run... mmsys.cpl (audio tab).

  • Internet not working on Mac computers when streaming on Apple TV...

    Hi Everyone,
    Strange issue...
Apple TV works great. Internet connection works great. Router connection works great on all devices: MacBook Pro, Mac Mini (wired Ethernet), and Apple TV. Whenever I start streaming content on the Apple TV such as Netflix or iTunes movie rental, the internet stops working on computers. As soon as I back out of the movie on the AppleTV, the internet resumes working on the computer.
    What the? Any ideas?

Same issue. Using 2011 iMac, time capsule, and Apple TV. Start streaming and the iMac Internet stops. Usually just safari; other wifi still functions, iMessage, email, etc. iPad works fine even when the iMac stops working.
Any software fixes? Or easy reset in safari to change dns or likewise? Using safari reset doesn't do the trick. Thanks.

  • Airplay video on iPad audio on TV when streaming from Home Share

If I stream video from my iTunes Library to my iPad, then turn on AirPlay to my ATV, the video plays on the iPad but audio plays on the TV.  I could use the Apple TV to grab the content from my iTunes library, but why the weird behavior?  Is there a fix?

See if any of the fixes here helps: http://appletv2.com/apple-tv-no-audio-fix/

  • Having trouble with sound when streaming videos on Netflix and Hulu

When I watch videos on Hulu or Netflix my audio is very bad (as well as my video). It stops and starts and has a horrible robotic background sound, like a speaker is blown (though I know that's not the case because the sound is the same through my TV when connected via HDMI cord). My audio and video files are all up to date... What can I do??

     HI @MKC2287
    Thank you for your response.
To try and rule out hardware as the issue here is a link to Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7)
Have you checked for viruses and malware? Malicious Software Removal Tool
You can try this step to try and find and repair corrupt files.
Go to the command prompt and right click and run as administrator
Type sfc /scannow and press enter.
You mentioned that it is generating a lot of heat so here is a link to Reducing heat inside the PC to prevent overheating
If the issue remains, you can try installing the original driver using the recovery manager
Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7)
The next suggestion would be to do a full recovery back to factory.
Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7)
During the recovery there is an option to  backup  your personal files to prevent data loss. If you have not done one recently I suggest you do one now.
Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 7)
Once this step has been completed, please run the HP support assistant to obtain any HP updates.

  • ITunes 7.4 Crashes When Streaming to Apple TV!

I installed installed iTunes 7.4 yesterday and it now crashes every time I try to stream to my Apple TV. Syncing seems to work fine from the same computer but have a spinning beachball on iTunes, a spinning wheel on Apple TV, and then an eventual force quit on iTunes anytime I try to stream.
I have rebooted my mac and the Apple TV with no result. I am reinstalling iTunes now and will report if this fixes the problem.

If this was occurring in a much greater number of cases where there was a consistent theme to the problem then I might well agree with you, but the numbers are extremely small, there is no obvious pattern at all and in cases where such problems have been solved the solutions are often entirely different. I wouldn't entirely rule out a software based issue but this seems very unlikely and I believe there is little chance of resolving matters while you continue to assume this.
