No audio on finished DVD or disk image after upgrade to QuickTime 7.1.3

I have iDVD 6.0.2. I routinely burn iMovie output to a DVD a couple of times a week. Yesterday I was getting ready to burn a DVD and got a software update alert for QuickTime. I installed 7.1.3. The DVD I burned after that update doesn't have audio. I deleted the encoding and made a disk image. No audio on that either. Until the QT update I had never had any problem burning DVDs. The iMovie output plays fine in iMovie and iDVD. The only plugin in my libraries is AppleIntermediateCodec.Component (v1.1).
Thanks for any help!
MacMini G4 1.42 ghz 512mb Superdrive   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I also had an audio problem with a iDVD6 for project I was working on last week (I have latest QT update). I added 2 different iMovie projects into iDVD6 Dual Layer project using submenu pages. Total size from Project Info was close to 7.7 GB limit using 'Best Performance' option. I selected 'Best Quality' option and it showed over 4 GB. I used this option and saved a disc image of this project. After done, I relooked at DVD size from Project Info and it now showed close to 7.7 GB. When I opened image file with DVD player, first movie played fine with audio. The second movie had video, but no audio.
After skimming some of the posts in this discussion group, I found one suggesting that if audio problem occurs, export your iMovie project with transitions, etc, as full quality DV, then bring back in as new iMovie project and re-establish chapter markers. I did this for the second movie only, and readded to original iDVD6 project. After recreating a disk image, I opened in DVD player and the video and audio was fine for both movies. Burned disk worked fine too.
Sooo ... if you have no audio problem with your iDVD6 project, if you recreate your iMovie project using procedure above and bring it back into iDVD6 project, maybe ... the audio might be there. At least it worked once for me.
If this trick works for anyone else, please post here for all to read.

  • Problems unmounting/ejecting a disk image after upgrade to 10.4.9

Since I upgraded to 10.4.9 I have the following problem:
After viewing a slideshow of pictures located in a disk image I cannot unmount/eject this image. I receive an error message that the image cannot be deactivated/ejected as some file is still in use.
Using the activity monitor I checked which files are in use by the Finder and found out that the last picture shown by slideshow is still referenced.
To me it seems as if the upgrade from 10.4.8 to 10.4.9 either changed the behaviour of slideshow (which does not close all files when terminated) or the eject image function (which does not force all open files in the image being closed).
The only bypasses I found so far are
    - using "umount -f" on Unix level (think I have to be an admin for that)
    or
    - logging off and on again / restarting the computer
Has anybody got other ideas how to force the unmount without using native UNIX commands in a terminal window?
Can someone tell me how I can report this bug to apple? On Apple's support pages I could not find any information on that.
Thanks in advance for any helpful hints.

The "Dock" contextual menu item to "Relaunch" the "Finder" is the equivalent of a "Force Quit", which is quite different from a regular "Quit".
Unless it is being unresponsive to a normal "Quit" signal, force quitting any application is not recommended because unsaved changes will be lost. In the case of the "Finder", any sort of file transfers in progress will be interrupted. Data loss may also occur if a file containing "comments" has been moved at some point earlier in the login session.
A normal "Quit", such as what occurs when logging out, quitting through the menu, using AppleScript or the "Quit" option of "Activity Monitor.app" ensures that the app quits in an orderly manner.

  • Is it possible to boot from a shared dvd or disk image remotely

Is it possible to boot from a shared dvd or disk image remotely without using netboot for install or utility?

All Apple Remote Desktop can do is point a system to a startup disk; it has no facility for providing a boot image. So you may want to ask this question in the Mac OS X or Mac OS X Server forums. You'll be more likely to get suggestions there, though other than NetBoot I know of no way to boot a group of computers from a single disk image or DVD.

  • DVD burning not working after upgrading to 10.5.1

    Hi,
I just purchased a macbook and found that dvd burning stopped working after upgrading to mac os 10.5.1. I went back to 10.5 and now it works without problems. Since so far I haven't experience problems with 10.5, I will continue using it.
Anyway, I just wanted to let other users know about this problem. I didn't find any references about it in the forum.
    Best wishes,
    Manuel

    Hi,
I just got DVD burning to work under 10.5.1. I had originally formatted the OS-X partition as "case sensitive". Today I reformatted the partition as a regular Mac-os journaled partition, re-installed leopard and the upgrade, and now DVD burning works fine. I am not 100% sure, but it seems that using the case sensitive format caused the problem.

  • Unable to burn AUDIO to DVD or Disk image, video is fine

As many other posts have stated; I am unable to burn the Audio portion of an iDVD nor does "save as disk image" transfer the audio of my iDVD. Transferred an iMovie, (an iPhoto set of photos with iTunes audio imported into iMovie) to iDVD. Audio plays on iMovie, audio plays on iDVD preview. Tried removing recommended ~com.apple.iXXX.plist, no help. Tried different encoding methods: i.e. Best/High/Professional. Tried saving to different sizes HD/Large/etc. Tried Share Media in iTunes, Media Browser, etc. Checked Main Audio, volume slider bar in iDVD. Tried importing audio into iDVD rather than transferring from iMovie. It doesn't seem to matter how I build the iDVD it works, until I go to Save As Disk Image or Burn DVD. Video works great (better in Large than HD) Audio doesn't transfer.
21 total minutes, 1.15GB of final iDVD using a default theme.

    Hi
(an iPhoto set of photos with iTunes audio imported into iMovie) to iDVD
Yes this is the problem - in iTunes there is a copy-protection that moves over
    Result
    • Plays well in iMovie
    • Plays well in iDVD preview
    • Silent on DVD
Only way around this is to in iTunes collect needed audio into a play-list
Burn this out as an Audio-CD and .aiff (NOT .mp3)
Use the audio on this CD in Your iMovie project.

  • No Audio on finished DVD

I created a movie with iMovie. After creating a DVD menu using iDVD, there is no audio when playing the DVD. I've tried everything the doc below mentions.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303550
I already have iDVD 6.0.2. The article says to upgrade to 6.0.1. Did 6.0.2 introduced another bug?
I've tried to burn to a disk image.
I've tried to delete the encoded assets.
I don't have any weird items in the QuickTime library.
I have created a new project.
When iDVD "Processes" the project, it hangs a long time on "Encoding Audio". I'm trying to remember if previously the screen actually showed all the songs it would go through as it was rendering. It doesn't do that now. If I go to "Force Quit Applications" the iDVD application is "not responding".
The only thing I've done differently this time (this is my fourth movie) is that this movie is the longest (one hour and one minute long).
    I tried both 6.0 and 5.0 Themes.
I've read some older posts about using certain audio formats from certain video cameras. The music in my video is from iTunes (most of purchased through iTunes).
I'm a fairly new Mac user (one year). This is amazingly frustrating. I have a movie I can't share with anyone (unless you're hearing impaired...sorry, no subtitles).
I'll try converting the movie into QuickTime format to see what happens... Maybe I'll try converting it to iPod format, too. Not sure what insight that will provide but it's worth a try (if nothing else, I can share it in that format).
    Help please!
    Mike

The drive is pretty large, 140GB. I'm just running out of space. Do you recommend a particular internal drive for a second storage unit?
My 250GB main drive has 98GB free, so I'd be running out of space too.
All of my internals are Seagate. I just put a Seagate in an old G4 that's going to be donated to a school. Guess I like Seagate. My LaCie 250GB external has a Seagate inside.
BTW, do you recommend a certain DVD type to use on the Mac?
Stay away from Memorex and TDK based on what I've seen around here over the last couple of years.
I recommend a disk image burned to Verbatim DVD-R at 4X or slower using Toast or Disk Utility.
David Pogue also recommends Verbatim on page 356 of his latest book:
iMovie HD & iDVD 6: The Missing Manual
Quoting David: "Cheaper brands don't use the same amount of organic dyes and are more likely to suffer premature deaths."
My reliable DVD-Rs have been: Apple 4X (Maxell ID), RiTek 4X; Verbatim 1-8X, RiData 8X, and PioData 8X, all white inkjet printable. The RiData and PioData checked out to be RiTek-made.
Verbatim is reliable and can be found in many stores in the USA. They even make a special grade for medical records.
You can buy the RiTek, RiData, and PioData at:
    http://www.shop4tech.com/
Verbatim may be available in your neighborhood Office Depot store, or:

Apple brand can be purchased from the Apple online store.
You can check the manufacturer's ID by using DVD Media Inspector: http://homepage.mac.com/raktajino/dvdmediainspector/dvdmediainspector.html

    Here's a great site: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
You could wade through this: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia
From that database: Five brands and who actually manufactures the DVDs:
TDK = TDK, RITEKG04, RICOHJPN, MXL, CMC, MCC
Memorex = CMC, RICOHJPN, PRODISC, INFODISC
Imation = CMC, MCC, Ritek, Prodisc
    Sony = MCC 01RG20, Sony04D1, TYG01
    Fuji = FUJIFILM02..4X, FUJIFILM03..8X, ProdiscF01..8x, ProdiscS03..4x, PVC001001..2x, RITEKG03..1x, TAIYOYUDEN..2x, TYG01..4x, TYG02..8x
This can result in "mixed" experiences...
My friend used TDK on his Mac and it wouldn't play in his 5 year old Sony DVD player. All of mine play OK in his "antique" Sony. Update: He finally gave up on that antique and bought a Sony DVPNS775V which also plays double-layer DVD+R.

  • IDVD will not burn a DVD - just disk image - why not?

I did a short iMovie project (just about 6 or 7 minutes of video); used a theme, added background music from my iTunes collection-- OK all fine; exported via "Share" to iDVD (all this is iLife'09 and Leopard 10.5.6 on a MacBook May 2006).
I did a DISK IMAGE but then also wanted to test to burn a real DVD. That got to to final step then hung- said one minute to go, then ejected the DVD - but nothing was on the DVD.
Later I used DISK UTILITY to burn the disk image to a DVD- and that DVD played fine on my Mac and even on my 7 year old DVD player.
OK so my MB DVD burner is working; the iDVD makes a valid Disk Image-- but why can't I go directly from iDVD to a DVD?
Thanks for any comments here -- I believe there has been a bit of discussion on this, but not sure if others are able to make a DISK IMAGE and then (if then) burn a DVD as I have. But I'm still not able to do this directly from iDVD.

Hi Beverly, I am using the imovie 09 version with iDVD 09. I didn't do any more editing after sharing the project to iDVD from within imovie. I get no error messages at all, that's the strange thing. It acts like it is encoding fine. But, when you watch the finished product, either a disc image or a burned dvd, it is garbled up from about halfway thru to the end. I even tried to have idvd save the project as a disc image and then used Toast 9 to burn it, and it is the same way, messed up. Just to be sure it wasn't the imovie 09 doing it, I took the same imovie 09 project, put it in Toast 9, and let Toast save it as a disc image, and it was fine. And I burned it with toast and the dvd played fine. I then tried to share the same project again, from imovie 09, to idvd 09, and save to disc image, and or burn it to dvd and again, it messes it up badly. This is a brand new imac bought from the apple store locally. I really can't understand why idvd 09 is this bad? It doesn't make any sense. I've eliminated imovie 09 as the problem. Like I said before, I have a lot of experience using the previous versions of imovie 6, and idvd 6 on a powerbook G4, without any problems? Oh, and I did get the menu sound to work, but not the method listed here. I tried all of those listed, without success. I found that if you keep dragging out the menu sound, and replace it with a new mp3, and drag it out, it finally works. I did this about 6 times. Then, all of a sudden it worked. Makes no sense at all. I never did see the little wave sound thing he talked about. It works now, but the wave isn't there? If there is a way to just remove idvd 09, and replace it with idvd 6.04, I'll do that. Is this possible?

  • Disk Utility doesn't finish creating new disk image - naming issue??

Recently I upgraded to Snow Leopard and carried along an empty disk image created in OS 10.4.11. I use these for archiving data on read-only DVDs and password protect the images.
In the earlier OS, I found the practical limit for the dmg was 4.3 GB, containing 4.27+ GB of data (anything larger failed when attempting to burn data DVDs). Today, when I looked at my empty dmg file, the OS 10.6.6 Finder showed it to be larger both inside and outside (just under 4.7 GB inside I think - didn't write it down). I suspected that it may be corrupted or at least not give correct directory information, so I deleted this dmg as a precaution and tried to make a new one with the old size by selecting custom size within Disk Utility. Now every time I try to create a new dmg this it stalls at about 100 MB.
The image format panel has several additional settings in OS 10.6 . There are two places for names - in the "Save as" field above and in the "Name" field below. (Haven't yet found any documentation where the reason for this is explained or which lists possible name limitations. The Help info appears to be identical to what was in 10.4) I've tried making both names the same, but it still stalls
    Disk Utility settings:
    Save as __Diskname
Name in lower field __Diskname (have also left it blank no difference)
    Custom 4.3 GB
    Mac OS Extended (journaled)
    128 bit encryption
    single partition
read/write format* (also tried CD/DVD master - no difference)
    * All files are not necessarily added at once so I'm pretty sure I want this to be read/write

In case this isn't obvious I mean read/write formatting on the hard drive, but when burned the format will remain the same whether or not the disk used is rewritable

    Hi Michael,
Did you reformat it HFS+ or something else?
Some USB2 Flash Drives Write at a disappointing USB1 speed, but Read at USB2 speeds.
From what I can find, that isn't one of them and should take maybe an hour & a half to transfer 30 GB to it. Of course if write speed IS USB1, then you could expect 2 days or more.
I'd stop it. Reformat it, then make the Image on the HD and try transferring it.

  • Trying to make single layer disk image AFTER making dual layer image

    Hi all
I wonder if you can help me.
I just made a dual-layer DVD image from a project and it created a 7GB file. Now I'd like to try a single-layer disk image at 4.7GB, something I did with an earlier version of this project, resulting in a watchable disk on a smaller TV.
Having made the 7GB image, Encore won't let me make the 4.7GB version but I don't understand why.

    Thanks John.
I don't know the answer to your AVI/MPEG2-DVD question. Sorry.
I simply imported my PPro sequences, built my menus and created the disk image for a dual-layer disk. Whatever source format that involves, that was the one I've used. How can I find out?
Is there an alternative way of building a disk that will allow me to choose all DVD/image/Blu-ray output options without starting again?

  • Can't open disk images after 10.4.6 update

I upgraded my computer to 10.4.6 and now I can't open any disk images. I checked my disk in Disk Utility and it said it had errors, so I booted from my installation disk to fix the drive. That worked for about a day, and then the same thing happened again. It says my disk is fine, so I don't think I need to go through the trouble of rebooting and repairing it.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Have you repaired permissions on your start-up drive using Disk Utility in addition the disk check and repair that you did? By the way, what kind of errors did DU find when you checked and repaired your disk? Did it complete the repair?

  • Disk images after snow leopard

    Hi all,
I recently installed SL on a MacBook Air using remote disk. The process was not smooth, with several failed installs due to dropped connections between the Air and my main MacBook Pro. It's all installed now, but every time I load up I get three disk images on the desktop labelled 'OS X'. Each one says for example '2.28GB, 1.16BG free'.
All of these can be ejected but its quite annoying to do it everytime I start up, and I assume they are taking up 2.28GB each until I eject them.
Anyone know what's going on and how I can get rid of it?
    Thanks,
    Ben

The problem is that you have an unneeded partition on your HD—left over from an unsuccessful install of Sno. To remove it, open ~/Applications/Disk Utility. Then, select your hard drive volume from the list on the left, and next select the "Partition" tab. You'll see the unneeded "Install OS X" partition in the diagram. Select it and press the "-" button underneath to remove the partition. Afterward, resize the Macintosh HD partition to include the space used by unneeded partition.

  • Cannot install DVD/CD ROM drive after upgrading from Windows 7

I had a working DVD/CD-ROM drive before upgrading. Now it shows as Unknown Device in Device Manager, I tried uninstalling it and then scanned for hardware changes but it still does not work. I also tried manually selecting a CD-ROM drive for it but it
ends up with an error code 31. I also checked for {4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} registry but it did not have lowerfilters key. How do I install the driver for it?

    Hi,
The error code 31 means that Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device.
Considering that this issue mostly can be caused by compatible issue.
Please check if you can fine the latest driver from Manufacturer’s website. If so, try to install it under Windows 10 compatibility mode: Right click the installer of the driver, choose Properties, choose Windows 7 under Compatibility
    mode to install.
If the CD device still fails to work, I recommend to check the setupapi.dev.log under %windir%\inf, locate the device and find the line below:
    dvi:             Rank         - 0x00000000
Then, corresponds the score in this link:
    Identifier Score
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff546297(v=vs.85).aspx
The value 0x00003000 is the best identifier score and the value 0x00003FFF is the worst identifier score.
The score near 0x00003FFF means that the driver and device may not compatible with current system, we may need to wait for the menufacturer’s driver update.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • No images after upgrading to MX7

After upgrading to ColdFusion MX7 I noticed my exisitng .cfm
pages are no longer displaying images on the local testing server.
I did see that I had the old CFusionMX and a newer CFusionMX7
folder. I moved all my files from the CFusionMX folder to
CFusionMX7 folder using the same file structure for images. Nothing
else changed however when I launch the web pages I get red x marks.
I did update my site data to match the new folder locations. And
even duoble checked my image paths. Any Ideas ?

I did see that I had the old CFusionMX and a newer CFusionMX7
    folder.
That could mean that you didn't completely uninstall the old
version of Coldfusion before installing MX7. You might have copied
old system settings that affect images or path. Alternatively,
there may still be places where you have to change
    CFusionMX into
    CFusionMX7.

  • Blurred low res images after upgrade, no export, READ DON'T UPGRADE

Hello, I am Pro photographer, I mainly have used iPhoto for family stuff. After upgrading from 09 to 11 ALL my images seem to be blured as if they were only the reference thumbnail. Trying to export the images to my Desktop to see what is going on iPhoto just hang and then crashes.
I've just lost nearly 10 years of family pictures? come on Apple this is like a early Alpha.

I have now upgraded three different machine with different iPhoto databases and have not had any issue with the clarity of the photos. I suspect that something happened to your photos during the conversion process.
I suggest you go back to your original iPhoto library and do a new conversion with iPhoto '11 to see if you get a better result as no one else has reported this issue.
