No audio on imported AVCHD files PP CS5

Hi,
I am new to Premiere Pro and my organisation want to start doing some video work for their website.  We have filmed some clips and have now saved these on the PC.  When I import these clips to Premiere Pro, I can see the clip, but when I drag it to the sequence the audio track is missing.  I have tried some other videos from our vimeo page, the audio in these works normally as you would expect.
The files I am having an issue with are AVCHD (mts) from a Canon Legria camcorder.  The audio plays normally when you open them in Windows Media player.
The PC is an Intel Xeon, 4GB RAM with Nvidia Quadro FX 3800 running Windows 7 with nearly 2TB of disk space so I know its not an issue with the spec of the system.  At the minute we are using the trail.  It's quite complicated but when we ordered the software it was between CS4 and CS5, they shipped us the CS4 box with a free upgrade to CS5, the box hasn't arrived yet so we are using the trail of CS5 we downloaded from Adobe.com.
If anyone has any help or advice I'd really appreciate it.
Kind regards,
Bernard

Bernard,
As the trial cannot handle anything MPEG, I am surprised that you get the Video. I wonder if you do not have the full-paid version of CS4.
Now, if you do, you probably have CS4.0.0, or maybe CS4.1. AVCHD uses AC3 Audio and was not supported in the earliest releases of CS4. However, it was added in the CS4.2 update. I would first update to CS4.2 and try again with the AVCHD material.
Also, many consumer cameras shoot AVCHD with DD 5.1 SS Audio. Do not know about your camera, but you should be able to check that in the camera's menu>audio, or similar.
If that is the case, PrPro will create a 5.1 Audio Track to accommodate it. Output of DD 5.1 SS is slightly involved, and I will not go into that now. If needed, I can step you through that process.
When you Import your file into PrPro, be patient and let it Conform. This is monitored by a blue progress bar at the lower-right of the GUI. Be patient, until that completes 100%.
Good luck, and let us know if the CS4.2 update helps you.

  • No audio when importing AVCHD files form Sony A7 into premiere pro

for over a year i have tried to import AVCHD files into premiere pro.. I get no audio, I have tried everything, changing the file extension, re installing, importing through prelude, using the media browser. I have used every setting in the camera but to no avail...
Please Adobe I am at my wits end i don't know what to do... i tried it in my friends computer and it worked so why not mine ?

Does your friend have EXACTLY the same computer software and hardware?

  • No audio after importing AVCHD files

I have a Sony HDR-SR10 and when I import the AVCHD files into Premiere Elements 9.0 there is no audio track in the timeline and I can not hear the audio either.  I've been reading all the other suggestions to this problem on the threads but I still have not been able to fix it.  I do not have the trial version and the audio on my computer works fine, in fact when I play the videos in other programs, Picture Motion Browser and HP MediaSmart, I can hear the audio.  I have tried importing both m2ts, mts and mpeg2 files but the audio still doesn't work. I have tried importing the video with both HD 1080i 30 5.1 channel and HD 1080i 30 both with no luck.  Please let me know what else I can try to do in order to get the audio working?

My Project Settings are HDV 1080i 5.1 Channel.
My camera manual indicates the audio compression format is Dolby Digital 2/5.1ch Dolby Digitial 5.1 Creator
I read the Conforming article and I'm not really sure how I know if this process is complete?  Should I get an error message if it doesn't conform?
I read your Audio article yesterday when I was trying to fix this.  I have a brand new computer so the audio drivers are all up to date.  When I go to the ASIO settings it lists my Speakers, RealTek High Definition Audio and I have that checked.  Do I need to check Device 32-bit playback or not?
Another thing I forgot to bring up is that when I put an mp3 that came with Premiere in the timeline I can hear it fine.  This makes me think that it has more to do with the file type that I'm importing rather than any audio settings?

  • Why won't premiere CS6 play audio for imported AVCHD files on my window 7 laptop?

After I've imported the AVCHD file the video plays just fine, but the audio isn't there at all. I still have the original video files on my SD card, I've tried Wondershare to convert the file, but the video became corrupted. Any tips?
    Thanks!

Not necessarily, go to Help > Updates. We're on Premiere Pro CS6 (6.0.3) in Windows now.

Uninstall Spotify and see if that helps. I've heard about some crazy things related to that app. Better to run all these apps on a cheap secondary computer or iPad.

  • Can't import AVCHD files since i've updated to  OSX 10.7.

Can't import AVCHD files since i've updated to FCPX 10.03 and OSX 10.7.  Before it worked ok.
When I try to import files from the Camera, or the Memory Stick they end up looking like offline files.  On my other mac (iMac intel core duo 27", with OS 10.6) I can still import these files.

Make sure you don't have Proxy checked in Playback Preferences.

  • How to Import AVCHD Files?

I recently purchased a Sony HandyCam HDR-SR10 Camera. I love the camera overall but now i have video files that i need to put on my computer. After speaking with Sony Support they said that in order to transfer files i must use the camera as a hard drive basic stuff just click and drag. However i ran into the problem that all of my AVCHD Files were not able to be opened by any program. After reading up and looking around i found that it seems Final Cut Express 4 now has the ability to import AVCHD files DIRECTLY from the camera to Final Cut Express... I really would like to know how to do this in Final Cut Express.... Any Help, Insights, or Tutorials, would be GREATLY appreciated. I really just need to know how to import the files to my computer and be able to edit them.....

"Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down"
then the program quits. I'm using Premiere Pro CC, the AVCHD files are recorded on a Sony FS700. Can anyone help please?

  • Final Cut crashes when importing AVCHD files

Final Cut Pro 6.0.4 crashes when I try to import AVCHD files in the Log and Transfer window (Add clip to queue, etc.). Any help appreciated.

    Found the resolution for my problem;
FCP currently (As of 22/10/08) only supports the bottom data rate at 1080i from AVC-CAM cameras. Anything else will crash the program.
    Also needs 10.5.5 and 6.0.4

  • Does FCP7 directly imports AVCHD files from sony cam?

Does the new FCP 7.0 directly imports AVCHD files from sony cam?
Does it need any conversion? If yes, how is the conversion time, and does the conversion degrades image quality?
    Thanks in advance.
    Desmond

Which sony camera? there are a lot.
Yes, it needs to convert. AVCHD isn't a format that most editing systems deal with natively. You will be converting it to ProRes. The conversion time is dependent on too many factors to give a precise number. Based on computer used, processors, RAM, how much footage, where it will be stored...all of that. The conversion doesn't degrade the image.
Here...I have a workflow tutorial for this: Tapeless Workflow for FCP 7 Tutorial

  • Imovie freezes osx 10.9.3 & how to import AVCHD files?

    Hi,
    I have 2 questions:
    1. imovie freezes:
Since a few days, imovie freezes when being launched.
I do not know the version I have and I do not think I can find out as ... imovie crashes before it even opens.
I have a macbook pro and got it in May 2014, so the imovie should be not older than whatever version was current back then.
I am not sure when it exactly started crashing, the first time I noticed it was last week when trying to import AVCHD clips from a camera. imovie would not launch so I used quicktime instead.
This brings me to my second question
    2. how can I access AVCHD files to use in imovie?
    Thanks

I do not have a time machine file available.
I believe the issue started after I imported AVCHD files from a camera by using quicktime since imovie did not let me do it.
After that, it has been crashing ever since.
I found the suggestion to delete all quicktime files in library-quicktime except AppleIntermediateCodec.component and AppleMPEG2Codec.component, but those were actually the only 2 files in there.
I also found the suggestion to delete all com.apple.imovie files in library-preferences, but there are no .imovie files in there at all.

  • Trouble getting audio files when importing R3D files into CS5.5 Prem Pro

Importing R3D files into Premiere Pro CS5.5 works for Video but the audio doesn't convert properly.   There is an audio file included in the R3D file that PP can see but it just has a few spikes.
This same file played in REDcine-X plays the video/audio just fine.   Is there some audio setting in Premiere Pro that I should be setting?
Oddly enough if I use REDcine-X to output a RED Trim file and then import it into PP, the audio file is shown separately and is imported correctly.   This of course involves a file conversion step in the workflow and a step that we are hoping to avoid.

In order to import all kinds of  r3d, we had better convert it to adobe more compaitble video format like dv, mpeg, avi
You may refer to the following step by step guide on how to convert .r3d movies at Convert R3D to ProRes, MOV, AVI, MP4, WMV, 3GP, MKV
    The guide applies to:
Convert R3D to ProRes 4444, 422, 422 (HQ), 422 (LT), and 422 (Proxy) to fast import any version of Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Pro X.
Convert R3D to MOV, MP4 to import R3D to iMovie for easy editing or to play R3D in QuickTime, iTunes, iPad, iPod, iPhone, Apple TV.
Convert R3D to AVI, WMV, MPG to edit R3D in Avid, Adobe Premiere, Sony Vegas, Windows Movie Maker or play R3D in Windows Media player, Xbox 360, Microsoft Surface.
Convert R3D to FLV, WebM, H.264, MP4 for upload R3D video files to YouTube
Convert R3D to DV, VOB, ASF, SWF, RM, 3GP, OGV, FLAC, OGG, MP3, WAV, WMA, AC3, AIFF, WMA and etc.

  • Video on imported AVCHD files is too fast

I recently got a Panasonic Lumix that shoots AVCHD video. I upgraded to iMovie '09, since it is supposed to be AVCHD-compatible. However, the AVCHD files I imported in iMovie have the video playing super fast, while the audio is normal. I've tried switching between NTSC and PAL formats, with no change.
Anyone else experience this? Anyone know why this is happening? Help please?

  • How to Import AVCHD Files in Final Cut Express 4

    Hello,
I try to import (log) my AVCHD files from a Panasonic HD Cam. The camcorder setting is 1920x1080 25i (HG). The logging-preview is fine but no matter which preferences I use in FCE 4, the clips are not synchronized. Video is a little bit fasterthan audio. How can I synchronize that?

    This? http://www.nattress.com/Products/filmeffects/filmeffects.htm
So my best bet is to shoot in 1440x1080 (12Mbps) and a frame rate of either 60i or PF30 when using FCE4?
What is the difference between 60i and PF30 frame rates?
    I am using a Canon HF10.

  • No audio track with AVCHD files (shot on Panasonic HMC-70)

I've read quite a few treads and cannot figure this out.  I have a standalone version of Premiere CC 7.0.0 (342) installed in my computer lab at school.
I tested the software with a creative cloud trial and AVCHD files worked fine.
This version does not show audio tracks in files dragged in from Media Browser (as suggested here: Audio and Video glitches | AVCHD footage)
It also will not import/transcode audio with Prelude or Media Encoder.  Video works fine.
I have FCPX and Compressor installed.  Both playback/transcode the file with no issue.  Is there a solution for Premiere/Prelude/Encoder?

I tried renaming the folders, like all of them.
    Not working.
The file path looks like this: Card:private/AVCHD (show package contents)/BDMV (show package contents)/STREAM/00000.MTS
I would think there would be a native format in Premiere for popular Panasonic cameras.
