No Audio on Keynote exported to iDVD in quicktime

I am at my wits end with this! I just got this mac in May so bear with me (recently converted PC-er). This is my problem, in a nutshell:
1) I created a keynote presentation
2) I created a soundtrack for it in Garageband (blending two songs together to play out nicely over it) and then placed it in the document. It worked fine.
3) I exported the keynote presentation (making sure to include audio) to quicktime and put it on my desktop
4) In the meantime I had created an iDVD project to place this presentation in...everything is working fine audio wise on the menus
5) I dropped the presentation into the project--it encoded, I previewed it to make sure it worked, it did.
6) I burned it onto a dvd
7) tested it this morning by putting it in my dvd player at home and the movie plays, but there is no sound! Help!
Interesting things that might be significant
1) when i exported the keynote to quicktime and saved it on my desktop--it actually created two icons-one of the movie (that played the movie w/the soundtrack) and one that looks like it was just the soundtrack. Is that significant?
2) the tracks I used to make the garage band mix were purchased from iTunes but to make sure I didn't run into any DRM issues I burned them onto a disc and then re-imported them-making sure to use the 'burned' songs in my mix.
I am trying to get this ready to show for a presentation on Saturday and it's getting down to the wire.
thank you in advance for your help.

Thanks for the link, it looks like this is just a bug in b/w Keynote and Quicktime and I'd need to upgrade to Quicktime Pro in order to make it work--that's not an option for me right now so instead I took the slides from Keynote, imported them as an album to iPhoto and tried to send it as a slideshow to iDVD, but that made the video jumpy (although I did have my soundtrack). My final solution was to take the slides from iPhoto, drop them into iMovie, add transitions b/w each slide to emulate the feel I was going for--and adding my soundtrack there. I exported it to my desktop and then dropped it into iDVD. It works great. I am disappointed that I could not have the builds in the slides that I wanted-but this current state works.
I wish I'd just started with iMovie. Next time I definitely will!

  • Audio Does not export with ideo in quicktime conversion

I know i did something with a keyboard shortcut during the editing process, but i cant figure out what i did and how to change it back. What my issue is that when i try to export it to any format in quicktime (in quicktime conversion) the video is ok, but my audio does not export at all.
I dont know what went wrong but i should note i pressed something on my timeline that i didnt realize what it did. Its hard to explain what it looks like, when you press on different clips all the clips on my time line quickly turn a more silver/light color and then change back to the normal color(not effecting the video quality just the thumbnails). But it is has a weird color
is there a way i can reset all settings without adjusting my video clips?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Does the audio play when you run sequence?
Did you toggle off the monitor icon at the left side of timeline for audio track?
When export to quicktime conversion, select quicktime movie and click OPTION.
From this point, you should see a checkbox for SOUND. Be sure to check it ON.

  • Audio on keynote exported quicktime videos cuts out at 50 seconds?

It just started!  When I export my keynote into a Quicktime file, the audio cuts out at 50 seconds.  I have been creating videos a long time with this method and never had problems before.

I am willing to share files with Apple. Mine are copyrighted, but are shareable.
But here's a wrinkle on the problem that puts me a little more in sympathy with Apple engineers, since they may well not have encountered the subtle environments we have that is generating this audio problem.
I was having the same problem you are for several days after I upgraded to Keynote 6.5 and Yosemite 10.10 (running on a mid-2011 MBA). I duplicated a keynote file with audio recorded that cut out after 50 seconds or so: audio stopped on slide 2 even though I had recorded and saved the whole 50 minute presentation. I store my keynote presentations along with Quicktime movies (m4v) and downsampled mp4 files in a sparsebundled disk image. I created a new, larger disk image yesterday because I was running out of storage space. To do that, I copied all the files in the sparsebundle to a temporary folder on a backup drive (My Mac Book Air is running out of storage space). Then, I deleted the old sparse bundle, created the new one, and copied all the files back.
After reading your latest post, I thought I would try again. I opened my test Keynote file, now copied to the new sparse bundle, and the audio works! I can hear the audio in the Keynote file when I "Play Recorded Slideshow" from the Play menu. I also exported to a Quicktime m4v movie and the audio is all there. The Keynote file size didn't change during all this: still 36.8MB, which is typical for the audio recorded ones. I start with a 2 to 4MB presentation of 15-20 slides, record audio, and the file size increases to 35-40MB. Then the Quicktime m4v is typical 200-300MB. This one is: 239.4MB.
So, although the bug is not squashed, take heart and don't delete those files! Your audio may actually be in there somewhere.

  • Keynote export options using Quicktime and iDVD

I am not happy with the output of HD Keynotes exported to iDVD...they work well with triggering the events with a click but the fonts look blocky. There is no way to upgrade the export settings to improve the quality.
I'm trying to squeeze as much out of Keynote as possible... and it seems I'm hitting a few problems.
Exporting the same Keynote to QT gets the clarity I want...because I can select the higher settings...and I can even "click" to trigger the events in QT Pro on my MBP... but as soon as I burn it in iDVD the clicks fail.
I am hoping to combine the clickability of the export to iDVD movie with the quality of the export to QT movie.
And I am soooo close.... I have discovered that the "clickability" seems to be controlled by a layer in the file called a Presentation Pause Track (found when I look at the movie properties).
Have you come across this before?
My plan was to extract the track and then add it to the hi res QT movie!!! I burnt the resulting QT to iDVD and the clicks were there!!! But the were all out of sync!
I discovered the Presentation Pause Track is a different length than the QT export... and even when I've subsequently added the PPtrack using "add to selection and scale" it is still out of whack!
Your help, guidance, commiserations would be appreciated...
Surely there is a way to have my HD Quicktime cake and eat it too!

    Cheers Brian
I'm green with envy re the 8 core Mac Pro!
To add to the info: I'm trying to find out how you can export to QT and iDVD and get a 2 movies of the same length... which should allow me to copy the pause track over and not lose sync with the clicks.
My latest test involves a 2 page Keynote (HD res) and the resulting QT export gave me a movie of 43 seconds while the iDVD export came out 57 seconds...
That's with the default settings for slide and build duration of 5 and 2 sec. (could that represent 2 pages of 5 + 2 sec?)
iDVD lets you alter these settings but to a minimum of 1 sec for each... QT export doesn't let you change these except for a self playing movie... so I'm now testing a self paced QT set at 1 and 1 sec and an iDVD set to 1 and 1 and see what happens...
Do you think I'm on the right track or am I wasting my time?
At least 8 cores might help reach theat conclusion a little faster!!

  • Audio in slide show exported to iDVD

According to Apple, when a Keynote slide show is exported to iDVD, any audio in the slideshow is written to a separate file which is not referenced in iDVD and so won't be burned onto a DVD with the images. This means that the iDVD project and the audio file have to be imported to iMovie and edited before burning to DVD (what a mess!!!), but I recently was successful in exporting a slideshow to iDVD (God knows how!!! - I've not been able to do it since), and the audio was retained and played with the movie.
Does anyone out there have any idea how this happened? Like I say, I've not been able to export a Keynote slide show to iDVD since. After a total of 5 attempts and about 36 hours, I still have not succeeded in creting an iDVD project with my latest slide show of 184 images, never mind the sound track.
Please don't tell me I have to move to Microsoft!!!!

Just played it on my iMac and the audio is fine. The track plays twice yet I have it set to fit to audio dissolve. The track is 3:44 and I have 78 pictures. iDVD make the slide show 7:29

  • IDVD crashing due to Keynote exports?

I export 5 Keynote shows directly to iDVD. Each one is approximately 10-20 slides and have a complete soundtrack with them. After initial export/import into iDVD they play fine. When I preview them immediately following export they play fine. It is after I save and exit that the trouble begins. When I re-open iDVD at least one of the exported-from-Keynote shows will sporadically crash the iDVD. It is rarely the same Keynote show and sometimes will play 1 or 2 times then crash. I have tried exporting and burning the iDVD before exiting from iDVD but that doesn't work either. I'd rather not make QTs of the Keynotes and import to iDVD due to loss of quality and the hassle with the sound.
I've looked through other postings here and find similar but not identically the same probs with Keynote/iDVD.
I am using all updated programs and a Mac Book Pro.
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Peace,
    Jim

j/c .... what happens if you make a disc image from the file menu within iDVD6 of this keynote project > iDVD?
I've also read on these forms that some folks have better luck exporting to iMovie and then to iDVD6 (even tho Keynote presents the option to go directly to iDVD).
    Might be worth a try.

To quote a prior post from Brian Peat:
You have to use either iMovie or the QT Pro player to add the audio into the QT file that Keynote creates when you send a file into iDVD. You basically, export to iDVD, close iDVD and save, then find the QT reference movie that Keynote created and open that in the QT Pro player. Then open your audio and select it, switch back to your video, put your playhead right at the start and choose to ADD it (don't just paste, it won't work). Then either save your movie as is if you're just simply going back to iDVD, or do a save as and make it self contained. If you do this second option you'll have to RE-ADD it into iDVD as it won't be the same movie, it'll be a new copy. Using the first method might give you what sounds like TWO audio tracks playing at once, but it should burn okay in iDVD as only one track.
Hope this is helpful and good luck ....

  • Sides of Keynote presentation cut off when exported to iDVD

    Hi,
I have a keynote presentation with the slides set to 800X600 that I am trying to burn to a DVD. I am able to burn fine but when it plays on my DVD player and CRT Samsung TV, the sides of the slides are cut off so that the first and last letters of many lines are not viewable. I also tried on a friend's TV with the same results The DVD looks fine when playing on my iMac but it's widescreen.
I first tried exporting the keynote presentation as a quicktime movie set to full quality 800X600. The next time I exported to iDVD which first exported to a quicktime movie with a size of 720X540. I thought that would fix it but that presentation also has the sides cut off. The iDVD project is using a standard 4:3 aspect ration. Should I try a widescreen project or won't that make more of the slide disappear. Any help would be much apprecitated.

Your problem is that while on a monitor, you can see the entire picture. Any DVD player connected to a standard television is going to show, at most, 90% of the image...some may only show 80%. This is due to something called Overscan on televisions. To account for this overscan, you have to make sure that as you're creating your presentation, you have nothing near the edges.
A good rule of thumb is to create an area that's 80% of the size of your presentation (in 4:3 resolutions, widescreen, you only have to worry about the right and left) and, as you're creating, keep dropping this shape onto your presentation slides to make sure you're inside it. Then, you'll be pretty sure that even on the worst televisions, all you information will show.

  • Error exporting from keynote 3 to idvd 6

Apologies for duplicating this in iDVD forum too:
I know this has been posted before - but I can't seem to find an answer to fix my problem. I am trying to export a 30 slide presentation from Keynote 3 to iDVD 6 - the presentation is using slides which should be the optimum slide size for iDVD (according to help files) it has an sudio file with it, but when I go to burn it using iDVD i get the following error message:
    Error During Track Initialization
There was an error during track initialization and iDVD
cannot continue burning this DVD 'the disc has not been
touched yet!). Please select Delete Encoded Assets'
from the Advanced-menu and try burning this project again.
I tried exporting the presentation to QT, which then worked and allowed me to burn the dvd, but the picture quality was completely rubbish.
Am at a total loss what to do next as have spent last three days trying various things with no success... idvd now keeps crashing on me as well. I have an urgent deadline I need to meet by next week

    Hi BigLou:
Be sure that you trash the idvd preferences prior to staring a new project. There may be leftover files from the trial version that are messing things up too. Look for all of those to be sure that you got rid of them.

  • Keynote exports - no audio

I get no audio when exporting Keynote recordings (in any format) - any work arounds?

    Welcome to the discussion forum!
The audio problems on export are being experienced by many users here, and unfortunately Apple has still not provided a fix. There are several workarounds described, but you'll have to find one that works for your specific situation. In my case, it looks like I'll end up using a third-party app like ProfCast or ScreenFlow.
If you search for "quicktime export" on this forum, you'll see a bunch of threads with this problem.

Does your slideshow in Keynote have audio associated with it?
Exporting from Keynote to iDVD6 will essentially strip the audio from said presentation. As as you may have noticed, the results aren't all that great in terms of visual quality either .... and it will get even worse once compressed into mpeg2 /iDVD which is less than a third of a megapixel in resolution for still images). It's just the nature of the beast until we seen Blue Ray firmly established. This begs the question .... then why use this particular option for a slideshow presentation ??? Not the approach I'd use at all.
Suggestion: Find a better way to present your 30 slides /presentation that will do some measure of justice to the original image. Here are two apps I'd recommend looking into:
    http://lqgraphics.com/phototomovie.php
    http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/overview/
Btw ... most Errors During Track Initialization tend to point at user's choice of media and or read/write speed when burning. I recommend using only Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R for troubleshooting purposes on this forum. Take the time to lower the burn speed to 4x or lower using apple's disc utilities or Roxio Toast. (Slower is better).
Hope this helps but if not come on back.

  • Need to play Power Point Presentation with Audio in Keynote

My wife and I have lots of Power Point slide shows with audio from the days when we were windows users. We have downloaded a trial version of iWork 09 and would like to know how we can play these .pps files that contain audio in Keynote.
We appreciate any help that anyone could provide as we would much prefer to use Keynote/iWork than MS Office.

That's interesting about NeoOffice. I keep a copy of it up to date but don't use it too often.
This may be too involved for the OP but I would play the file in NeoOffice and record the audio with WIreTap or similar, export it as an MP3 file and then import it into Keynote.
WIreTap can have its input source set to Mac Audio so that it will record from any application that is capable of producing sound.

  • Exporting for iDVD - time limits or quality settings

can anyone recommend export settings for 4:3 PAL in DV quality, for using iDVD to burn to disc?
NOTE: the project is 2hrs 6mins long - will this matter in iDVD?
    thanks

iDVD will only burn a maximum of 2 hours so you will have to shorten it. Sometimes, depending on the circumstances it will not even manage that. So I would either cut it to well under 2 hours or split it into 2 DVDs.
All you need to do to export to iDVD is this :-
    1. File>Export>QuickTime Movie.
    2. In the Save window that appears make sure that Audio and Video is included and to save time DESELECT the "Make Movie Self-Contained" box.
    3. Press "Save" and wait a few minutes for it to make the QT reference movie.
    4. Open iDVD and import the movie and do whatever else you wish.
You can expect the encoding/burning process to take well over 4 hours even on a very fast Mac.

  • Exporting to iDVD

I have a project which is 8 films about 20-30mins long. I am trying to export to iDVD and burn to one disk. With all 8 films exported, I am 0.8gb over the capacity of the disk.
The films have been edited down as much as possible and I have exported them as uncompressed QT movie. I have tried exporting in various formats that are meant to add compression H.264 & DV50 which actually increased thier size. I tried MP4, but I don't know what settings to use to get the best quality picture and audio. Basically, I need to find a way of reducing the file sizes, but keeping the quality as high as possible.
Can anyone help? be gentle this is my first post and I am new to FCP 5 and editing.
    Thank you.
    Anna

    Hi:
iDVD uses uncompressed audio (AIFF/PCM). That takes a lot of space and bitrate.
Using Compressor and DVDSP workflow leet you select Dolby 2 (AC3) to encode your audio. That will give you more room for your video.
You can use Bitrate Calculator to checj the max bitrate you can set your video encoding using Compressor. Then you can build your own MPEG-2 preset.
You'll need a little of reading to make your first DVDSP project but that's no so hard. Use Search feature in DVDSP forum and most probably you'll find the answer and all your questions !
    Hope that helps!

  • Audio fails in Export to QT

    Hi,
I have made two presentations in Keynote and need to export to QT Full Quality, manual advance, to include on DVD's
Both presentations are the same except for the language.
The English version lets me export no problem. However the Korean version has no audio in the export. It does make two files one movie and the other audio but so does the English version. I have checked everything, both files are identical. Both mov. files are 16.4 MB in size. The exported English mov.file has 51.5 MB and the Korean mov.file has 61.2 MB. Does anyone know what happened to the audio or why it won't play?

    Hi
    Me just thinking.
Do You use - external hard disks ? If so
    • Connected via FW or USB/USB2
    • Free space on them
    • formatted as ?
BTW - Did You Mix Down Audio - before Export - I do !
