No audio on macpro

Hello,
I suddenly cannot listen to anything on my MacPro. It started being a problem on and off. Now there is no sound in any of the following apps: VLC, DVDplayer, final cut, spotify . QT, either DVD or file
on system pref I have selected Blackmagic audio, our card, but there is no sound either in any integral speakers, line out, digital out or blackmagic, I don´t know what else to try,
Any help welcome,
thanks,
Nere

As Ogelthorpe says you will need to use your audio output port for the sound.
Use the HDMI for video and something like this to connect to TV sound (this carries sound)

I use it on my 2009 MBP, works great.

  • Audio on MacPro Mavericks is too low.

Bought a MacPro Mavericks on 12/2013 watching Amazon Prime movie and audio is unsat.  How can you increase the volume in addition to the function keys? Is there some settings available to adjust the audio to increase the sound?

Take a look at a program called Boom on the App store. It gives you more volume than Apple allows.

  • Audio out of sync - Finalcut 7, Canon 7D, Marantz PMD 670

Having some serious audio slip (out of sync) issues - looks like some people already have this using various equipment (h4 zoom, Tascam, Olympus etc):
Shot an interview with Canon 7D
Recorded audio on a Marantz PMD 671 and converted to 48Khz (several times in Compressor, QuickTime Pro 7, Bigasoft Audio Converter):
    MacPro (2008) - running 10.6.8
    Finalcut pro 7.0.3
When I import both the video and the audio from the two sources they are fine at the start of the audio sync mark, but slip badly after a few minutes.
Have exported the audio in different AIFF ways 44Khz, 48Khz, 16 bit 32 bit, little endian etc, but it fails to sync up.
Have had a look at the forums on Creative Cow, but this just says to adjust the speed settings of the audio to 99.89%. This is almost fine.
Another thing I found is when I scrub through the audio track from the camera, the waveform syncs up with audio I listen to it, eg I see a spike and corresponds to a loud pop sound through my headphones
    However...
When I scrub through the audio from the Marantz, the waveform does not seem to reflect what I hear, eg I see a quiet passage but can clearly hear audio at level 10dB.
    I've restarted, updated, everything.
    Lost and frustrated of Cheam

OK FIXED! This is what you need to do:
These THREE steps will work if you have shot video and audio from TWO separate sources, eg:
    - Video shot on a DSLR (Canon 7d in my case)
    - Audio recorded on a digital recorder (Marantz PMD 671 - in my case, Zoom h4n etc)
    1. DON'T PANIC! - Make a fresh brew, and sit comfortably
    2. Delete or (better still) rename your FCP prefs. I suggest instead of deleting the prefs, add ".OLD" to the end of the file name. In the unlikely event this doesn't work, then you might need to put your prefs back.
This is an extract from Apple support page :
    Delete the User Preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Final Cut Pro 7 back to its original settings. This will not impact your project files, but you should verify your Scratch Disk location setting after doing this. To reset your Final Cut Pro 7 user preferences to their original state, do the following:
In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences—the tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
Remove the "com.apple.finalcutpro.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
Remove the "Final Cut Pro User Data" folder from the Preferences folder.
    Restart your computer
    3. This is the crucial step from Michael Gissing Creative Cow (nuff respect bro):
    http://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/8/1151955
I used QuickTime Pro 7 to export the original "Original" WAVE file to an AIFF 48Khz, 16-bit audio file. But you can use SoundTrack Pro, Bigasoft Audio Converter. As a side note, MP3 are notorious for a slippling - this AIFF conversion will normally help.
This will fix your audio slip if you find you have had to adjust the speed (eg, 99.89% etc).

  • Can I update the native sound support on my early 2008 MacPro to support HDMI audio out.

I recently connected a HDTV as a second monitor.  I don't have HDMI listed under the possible options for audio output in my settings panel.  The MacPro's system information also doesn't list support for HDMI devices under the Audio panel -- so I assume it is not natively supported.  Is there any way I can update this?  I know I can transfer the audio signal to the TV using a 1/8" in. audio cable but I don't have one handy and would much rather just have the signal run via the HDMI.  I've copied and pasted my system information 'audio' data.  I'm using OSX 10.9.

No, unfortunately Mac Pros older than 2010 will not send audio through their Mini DisplayPort connectors, even with a more modern video card like the 5770.

  • No audio with iSight and Macpro and 10.6.4...

I'm trying to get this iSight firewire unit to work with my Macpro running 10.6.4 for a skype video conference. I get video in skype but no audio.
I've tried searching, but haven't found anything. There is an isight updater, but it doesn't work on 10.4 or later.
Any ideas? Searching on my entire mac for the word "isight" brings up 0 results so I'm thinking I need some kind of software to get it working right.

    Hello rhythmdevils
External iSights work fine on my 10.6.4 Mac Pro without running the iSight Firmware 1.0.3 Updater.
If the updater helps you, use it, but if you are still having trouble, test your external iSight with more than one app in more than one user account.
If your problem occurs ONLY with Skype in EVERY user account you test, your problem is "Skype-specific."
If you do not get the Skype answers you need here, Skype's comprehensive support pages should be your best source of help for Skype-specific issues.

  • MacPro Line-Out Audio -- Is the Signal Clean?

I have my home stereo connected to my MacPro through a USB interface device called a "Stereo Link 1200." It's something I bought years ago, when I was still a PC user and the audio output from Soundblaster cards left a lot to be desired. This unit connected via USB directly to the motherboard and produced a strong, clear audio signal.
So when I switched from a Dell XPS to a MacPro about a year ago, I replicated the setup, connecting the stereo link via USB, and all is well.
I was just looking at the audio output options in "preferences" and notice that one of the options is the line-out connector native to the MacPro. So suddenly it occurs to me to ask: is that a clean signal? Do I even need the Stereo Link in the equation any more? Or can I just jetison that and go straight from the MacPro to my stereo?
I just thought I'd ask before I go in and start unplugging things, I figure somebody here must know the answer to this one.
    Thanks,
    --PS

I do just what you are describing about with no problems. I use one of the alternate video inputs on my receiver.
If your receiver has an optical digital input you could try using the optical output on the Mac.
The quality of the Mac line-out vs. what your stereo-link can do is very subjective. Since this would probably take you a total of less than 5 minutes to test (assuming that you have the correct cables) I would suggest that you give it a try and then report back here what you find. My suspicion, considering that both devices (stereo-link and the Mac's built-in D/A converter) are "consumer level" is that you won't be able to hear a noticeable difference. That said, the Mac will have more modern components and could possible outperform the other. Plus, as you mention, it would eliminate the extra device and save you a USB port in the process.

  • MacPro distortion for Firewire Audio (duet, digi 002r)

    Hi -
First off, thanks for reading. I'm at the end of my rope on this one.
For the last 2 years (since I moved from a G4 + digi 001 to an intel mac + 002r) I have been experiencing intermittent distortion issues where the audio distorts periodically, sometimes for just a second at a time, but eventually permanently.
The fix with the 002r was restarting PT. I assumed it was a digi problem, until I replaced the 002r with an Apogee Duet and STILL have the same problem, even after installing 10.5 clean and deleting all Digi drivers.
The fix with the Duet is to change the format in Audio MIDI setup from 44.1 to another setting (doesn't matter which). Apogee has told me this resets the firewire driver. It's better than restarting, but still ***** horribly. Their support has been somewhat helpful (definitely more than Digi's) but not pointed me in the right direction yet.
This happens in Logic, but also happens in the OS, for example if I'm playing a quicktime movie or listening to iTunes. the regular audio port has no issues.
This has been driving me crazy for 2 years. If anyone can help I would be eternally grateful.
    Setup details:
    MacPro 1,1 (dual xeon 2.66)
    3 GB memory
2 fast drives (on serial-ATA, not daisy-chained on FW)
duet (plugged into rear FW port) (and had same problem with 002r)
    OS X 10.5.5
Logic Studio (but had same problem with PT)
Native Instruments Guitar Rig + Kontakt (but had problem prior to installing these)
    Thanks -

  • Using Audio-line out in MacPro

    Hi,
I have recently switched to Mac from Windows. I have a good Altec Lansing speakers which I would like to continue using for sometime.
Normally the speakers contains black and green connectors and you connect the green to the audio out.
But connecting the green connector to the audio out in MacPro doesn't bring any sound.
What is this audio out? Can I use my Windows speakers with it?
The speakers works fine when I connect to the Headphone Jack in the front.
    Any info is useful.
    Cheers.
    MacPro Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Getting the audio out to work the first time can at times be a little fiddly although once you have it working it's no problem after that. What I needed to do is, in the Sound System Preference, is to change the Output between the built-in speakers and the line out a few time while changing the system volume (via the keyboard) up and down inbetween.
I've never figured out why it's sometime like this but once you've fixed it its not a problem afterwards.

  • MacPro Audio Snap-Crackle-Pop (macpro 6-core 3,33GHz)

    Hi Everyone,
3 weeks ago i received my brand new 4500$ machine, after working for about 40 minutes there was this really loud POP/Crack trough the speakers, didn't think much of it at first but then after a while same thing happened. It really loud and scared the living daylights out of me...at first i thought it was a problem with my cables or amplifier so i started checking everything, changing cables, unplugging etc. even went this far that i went out and bought new cables but that didn't do me any good. started up my old computer and no Popping sound or weird cracks what so ever, so i took the computer to a friends house and plugged it on this his audio installation (Audio-line out) the same problem occurred after 20min. so without a doubt was it a MacPro issue.
to finally check i even unplugged "every" external device (amplifier,mixer..) and used the internal build in speaker just to check if it had the same issues, and yup same thing with the internal speakers there's this loud Pop also.
Caled Apple explained everything and the offered to ship me a new machine since this one obviously isn't working as it should.
i have received my replacement Mac Pro 2 days ago and guess what, EXACTLY the same problem with this one. One would think that since this one has the same issues its not the Mac Pro but I'm absolutely without a doubt 100% sure it is a the Computer, why because even when nothing is plugged in and i use the internal speakers it still pops, also when i take it (again) at a friends prof. recording studio and test it there ...POP same story.
you can best describe the loud pop i hear with an audio cable that you plug-in or out of a powered amplifier, it gives this loud crack.
The sound studio guy said that he thinks it has to do with the sound chipset waking from sleep or something in that direction
question is are there people here whom know how to fix this (if its even possible to fix) or people whom experienced the same problems?
What do i do now, call Apple again and ask again for a new machine? i mean we are not talking ipods here, its a really expensive machine and it should just work without me getting the living daylights scared out of me 3 times in one hour. I want a computer that works point blank.
Hate to call Apple again, i lost loads of time already and they probably going to suggest the same thing all over again...try installing OSX again, do hardware check...etc. been there and didn't do me any good.
what should i do and does anyone know how to fix this extremely anoying problem
hope to get some reply's as i would really appreciate it

Mac Pro (6-core) 3.33GHz here too, running OS X 10.6.4. Same issue. However mine happens ever so randomly. Sometimes it doesn't happen for a whole 3hours then suddenly, for a split second there's that pop/crackle sound. I used to have the same speakers plugged in a mid-2009 15" MacBook Pro and it never had that problem. To think that i spent over £3000 on a high-end desktop workstation makes me wonder why the **** are they even priced ever so ridiculously?? I mean if it has such a pathetic problem such as this. Quality control isn't what it used to be for Apple it would seem. Glad that I'm not the only person with this problem, and I'm sorry to hear that this has happened to many of u who caved in nearly 2 months salary (I may be on scholarship, but still, money is money) to buy a high-end workstation like this.
My specs are in my sig at the bottom. Did all the necessary updates, except for iTunes (running on 9.2.1) but I dont think iTunes 10 addresses problems like these. Definitely not an iTunes problem because even if there's nothing playing there's still that pop sound. Thing is, mine doesn't happen so frequently, but it does happen on occasion, but for a +£3000 machine, IT'S UNACCEPTABLE!! Get it together Apple! Plus this is not my only Mac Pro issue, got a Kernel Panic the other day because I was tethering my iPhone 3GS 32GB (iOS4.0) via USB to my Mac Pro for internet and the kernel panic grey screen came up. Lesson learned, i wont be USB tethering my iPhone EVER AGAIN, but I'm not going to refrain from using my audio on my Mac Pro, am I right? Anyway, this rant is rather annoying, I sure as **** hope that it's just a software issue and that an update SOON will help resolve this!
Have any of u guys reported this issue to Apple? Because if enough of us who spent copious amount of money on this report the issue, they are FORCED to find a fix. Because I dont wan to have to ring Apple and be on hold for hours before I have someone tell me "ye...just send it back to us". Because: a) I'm not going to post it to them, takes too much **** time. b) Even if i were given a new desktop, I dont want to have to start from scratch, unless they're willing to migrate all my data on to the new desktop and everything will be as my last desktop was. AND c) I know i said this enough, but this is an expensive desktop and issues like this shouldn't even be roaming around...
Please note, my Mac Pro is ONLY 3days old.
I hope again that this is SOFTWARE/FIRMWARE related. and an update should fix this!

first download the macintel drivers from motu, install them ,then reset your motu, that should do the trick.

  • For audio/video, is the iMac enough?  Or is MacPro the way to go?

I do most of my work in ProTools as a recording artist, but am starting to do video editing, specifically concerts with multiple HD cameras set up.  I will always be mainly working on the audio side, but I'd like to become proficient in video editing as well since it would help out in the studios I work with for various projects.  I'm not going to be making massive movies or anything, but i will be sifting through various camera angles of concerts to make promotional videos and the like.
Is a new iMac the way to go, or MacPro?
I'm leaning towards the iMac on account of price, though I'd likely top it up with all the bells and whistles... so it'll be likely close to the base price of the MacPros if not more.  Also, they'll be coming out with another iMac soon I hear, though nobody knows when.  So I'm ready to wait for the latest iMac.  Should I?
    Thanks!

I'm not that big on tweaking my computer so much... i only recently upgraded the RAM on my 2006 MacBookPro!  So while I can appreciate the value of customizing my computer, I doubt I'll be fiddling with it too much.
I suppose my question is, can the iMac do the job?  And are it's shortcomings such that I'd be foolish not to spend the extra couple thousand bucks and get a MacPro?  Is it worth the extra dough, for someone who won't be regularly upgrading this and that?  And should I wait for the supposedly upcoming new iMac?
Sorry, I should have said questions up there.
