No audio on my Dell PC
I installed DriverUpdate last March. Suddenly getting messages ITunes not installed properly. and No audio devices detected, Codec error 10. ? any thoughts. Thx
Probably the driver is not loaded. With hwd or hwdetect you can find out which driver you need and then modprobe that module.
Maybe your hardware is to new for the install iso and you need to use the 2008.06 install-cd.
Zl.
/EDIT: it looks as though the driver for your gigabit network-controller (Atheros L1E) is only very recently added to the kernel. You should try the very latest installcd, made specifically for the FROSCON-conference (see http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=53738)

? Hi, I just upgraded my Dell dimension 4300 which was running on Windows XP pro to Windows 7 32 bit. Everything is working fine except my sound. I cannot see my audio driver through system information or anything. So I had to open my CPU tower and found out that my sound card is Sound blaster li've model CT4780. Can anyone please tell me how do I use this card with windows 7. I don't know if it will work with Windows Vista driver and I couldn't find a driver for it. I went to dell's website and that driver didn't work, probably was not compatible with Windows 7. Now in my Device manager setting I see these drivers with question mark
- Ethernet controller
- PCI simple communication controller
- Multimedia audio controller
My bios is A04. Can anyone please help me with that. I searched everywhere possible for a solution, but couldn't find one. I will really appreciate if someone can save me.
Thank youYou need a lot more than just the non-existant driver for your sound card, you also need motherboard/chipset drivers and there aren't any for that either. You computer has the Intel 845 chipset in it,
<a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4300/specs.htm#0572"]http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4300/specs.htm#0572[/url]
which Intel declared "end of life" a few years ago. Without a working chipset driver it doesn't matter whether you have working sound drivers or not.
In your case you would be far better off holding off on Windows 7 until such a time as you have a new computer that actual has Windows 7 support. -
The audio input on my Dell Mini 10v doesn't work. These seems to be a known problem - in Ubuntu, they applied a patch to get it working in Karmic: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/394793
I confirmed by booting Ubuntu from USB that audio is working.
Does anyone know how I can get this to work in Arch? This stuff is really over my head. The input device shows up in alsa, but not audio is there. This patch is needed to set the input level apparently.
Thanks!Bump - someone must be able to point me in the right direction, I know there's a lot of smart kernel type people around here . . .

Sir
I am having Dell 11 3147 run by Windows 8.1. My dell is within warranty.
Now I like to get installed the driver & software of Dell or Dell supported if nay so that I may edit the audio files recorded in my laptop.
Matter is very urgent for me. Please provide support.

Hello Damodar Chakrabarti.
Dell does not provide a program for editing audio files. It may necessary for you to acquire a third party graphical editing program. [Graphical editing means audio editing is performed by making changes to a pictorial representation of the audio, usually as an amplitude waveform.]
The most popular free graphical editor is named Audacity. Link to the Wikipedia article on Audacity
.There are other free editors available too. Link to Wikipedia list of free audio editors
In addition to the free programs, there are editing programs that you can buy. I use one of those (Cakewalk Sonar) because I find its user interface to be a bit more sophisticated and easier to use than that of the free programs. Link to Wikipedia list of audio editors both free and proprietary

Damodar Chakrabarti., I hope this information is of use to you. If I can assist further please let know. Audio editing is a particular hobby of mine. However I must say that there can be a steep learning curve required for using an audio editor initially. If time is an urgent consideration you might need to find someone locally who is familiar with audio editing techniques. -
No audio T520 displayport Dell U3011
Hi,
I've connected my T520 to Dell U3011 30" through a DisplayPort cable, using discrete graphics.
I'm not able to get audio from the monitor.
From Sound Settings, I can see Dell U3011 (4-High Definition audio device is enabled), and also can see the bars moving when I play any audio.
I also checked the Dell U3011, and the audio is set to 2.0.
Ccould you please give your comments/suggestions?
Thanks1There are a number of threads gone on the Display port and DP to HDMI adapter.
In a nut shell many don't pass sound.

Sound Blaster X-F Audio came with Dell Compu
It was working fine, then all of a sudden the other day, the sound disappeared.
I finally gave up and reinstalled the CD.
Prior to having this problem, I was able to use the Mode Switcher, Mixer, etc. on the Volume Panel Icon. Now it says "The current audio device is not supported by the application" Do you want to select another audio device? If I say Yes, it pops up and says : The Creative Audio Device module cannot be launched. The module may be missing from your system. You may need to reinstall your application.
I already had used the repair to fix the application.
I also did the repair and selected the devices I wanted and I watched them install. I saw the Mode Switcher installing, but when I finished installing, I get an error saying that it may not have installed correctly, do you want to default to Microsoft windows.
Very confusing.
Every thing seems to be working correctly. They answered but i'm not quite happy with that. They told me that the card shouldn't work properly if i installed two operating systems on my pc. I don't know why this is but it's "bad news" Anyway if anyone has found? any solution don't hesitate to tell me!
Yours,
Greg

ITunes Knocks Out Vista Audio?
My mom just received a new iPod Shuffle, as well as a new computer with Windows Vista Home. Ever since iTunes was installed, the audio on the computer will go out completely after about an hour or so and doesn't come back until we reboot. We've updated audio drivers, contacted Dell customer support and no one knows what the problem is. Could this be caused by iTunes and Vista not being compatible? If so, is there any solution yet?
Thanks for any help.
Dell E521 Windows Vista HomeI have a similar issue with iTunes on my PC. A song will be playing just fine then all of a sudden the audio is severely degraded (lots of static and very choppy). This continues for a bit (~30sec) then the audio cuts out completely. In fact, I get no audio from any application after this happens. I must log out and log back in.

Connections for Inspire 5200 on a Dell Dimension
Is anyone aware of the proper connections to utilize the built-in 5.1 audio on a Dell Dimension 8400?
Are there any suggestions on which speaker system would be the best for a Dell Dimension if I should decide to replace my speakers?
Dell's online owner's manual shows that the black jack is for surround and the white jack is for the center. I have the jack for the speaker system's FRONT speakers plugged into the surround jack and the CENTER/WOOFER plugged into the center jack.
It would be nice to have real 5.1 sound coming from my computer since it's supposed to be able to handle it without using an Audigy card. I have an Audigy card in another computer, but I don't want to pull it if I don't have to.cconklin,
Not sure about your onboard audio but you should connect the onboard audio Front jack to the speaker system front input jack, Rear/Surround jack to the speaker rear input jack and lastly the Center jack to the speaker Center/Subwoofer input.

*FIXED* No sound and 'No Audio Device' in Control Panel. *FIX
I?m having a problem with my sound. Basically all I get is a system sound, which means no sounds from itunes but the error prompt sounds still play. I?m tempted to say that this is a detection issue because of several things:
-First, when looking in the ?sounds and audio devices? in the control panel I get grayed out selections and a ?no audio device?.
-Secondly, when running the directX diagnostic tool (typing ?dxdiag? in the ?run? window) I get several troubling indications. First under device I have no manufacturer or product ID. Second under drivers I have (copied from dxdiag text file):
Driver Name: ctaud2k.sys
Driver Version: 5.2.000.96 (English)
Driver Attributes: Final Retail
WHQL Logo'd: Yes
Date and Size: 8//2006 4:45:38, 499584 bytes
Other Files:
Seems hunky-doorey but then I have a note at the bottom that reads:
Sound Test Result: Failure at step 3 (DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x88780078 (No driver)
I have seen another similar post that seemed to have the same problem, but they didn?t provide much information and the fix was to pull out the audio card, run start up, turn it off, and then put it back in and run start up. If this is what needs to be done, could I have a picture or something of what the sound card looks like?
This problem started when I tried to update my sound card and since then my sound has been? possessed? or prone to working at sometimes and then (most of the time)failing at others.
Here is the dxdiag.txt file without the lengthy directShow filters and directx components:

Message Edited by guru7892 on 05-24-200705:55 PMI found that once you reinstall your sound card you need to make sure you hook everything back up correctly.
basically all you need to do is run a start up with your sound card out ofyou computer and then re-run start up with the card back in. -
Im fairly new to Premiere and haven't really encountered this problem before. I used a Nikon E4200 to create this video and when I play back the audio the sound cuts out where I've highlighted the track. If anybody could help me figure out what this means it would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
Try and drag in just the audio track into the timeline from the source monitor. (Re- Open the clip in the source monitor then use the Speaker Icon)
Drag it on top of the existing ( overlay it) or onto a new track then trun off the old track (or delete that audio - alt--click >del). -
How to solve High Definition Audio Device issue on Vostro 5470
I have a Vostro 5470 and after installing Windows 8.1 Professional, I'm getting the following issue.
"This device cannot start. (Code 10)
{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful."
Does any one have any idea how to fix this? I have downloaded the most recent version of the drive from dell support site, but nothing!Make sure the Windows Audio Service is running.

I have downloaded the most recent version of the drive from dell support site
You can only get the Realtek audio driver from Dell, not the High Definition Audio Device driver. That one is the Windows native audio driver. To update it you would have to let Windows go online to search for an update from Microsoft.
From your screen shot it appears that both the Realtek audio driver and the Windows native audio driver ("High Definition Audio Device") are both showing. Normally only one would show up in the Device Manager. I would try re-installing Windows and not installing any Realtek driver. Without a Realtek driver Windows will install its native driver and produce audio. If it failed to do that then the error would be due to hardware failure or some kind of problem within Windows. -
Inspiron 3537 no audio recording
I have a Inspiron 3537-4864 laptop. The in-built microphone isn't working at all.
The device is shown green in the audio settings, its default device also. I disabled and uninstalled both mic and webcam devices and drivers. Its not muted either. I tried with skype, windows 8.1 audio recording and dell webcam central. Not recording anything. The drivers are up-to-date (Audio_Driver_5F22P_WN_6.0.1.7023_A00).
Thanks the help in advance.Hello. There is not an easy or reliable way to test the mic. You can test the audio driver by switching from the Realtek audio driver to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (Control Panel>Device Manager).
2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".
3. Select to "Update Driver Software".
4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".
5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".
6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.
7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio Device" (the native driver).
8. Click "Next".
9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver).
10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.
[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
This tests the driver because if you have the exact same symptoms with both drivers, there is a very small probability that both of them are faulty in the same way.
Make sure that Microphone is selected as the default recording device. If two of them, one is the external jack mic which usually cannot work with the native driver.
Right click on the internal mic and select Properties. Select the Advanced tab. Uncheck the Exclusive Mode boxes.
Try making a test recording using Windows Sound Recorder (not a voip application). If no luck then there is a good chance there is hardware failure.Use a strong light to examine the mic to try and see if it has been displaced or something is covering it. Sometimes it helps to open the bezel and reseat the webcam's connection.
The gold standard for determining if it is a hardware problem is to perform a system recovery (reset the laptop back to the factory configuration). When doing that does not solve a problem that did not exist when the laptop was new then it has had a hardware failure since then. -

Biostar mobo not recognising Sound blaster cards
Hi all, Just moved a whole lotta bits from a Dell XPS420 over to a new mobo/case/psu setup.
Full kit list now:
Biostar TPower I45 Intel Q6600, with Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 pro
3Gb RAM
2x750Gb HD
Generic (Dell?) GeForce 8800GT, with Thermaltake HR-03GT
2x DVD Writers Antec 300 Case, with 2 additional Akasa 20mm red LED fans in front.
Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 550W psu
Akasa internal card reader.
Sound Blaster Audigy (SB0570)
Vista Home Premium.
Okay, most things worked fine when I built it. I didn't reinstall the OS, just booted from the hard dri've. I just had to load the drivers for the Biostar website for chipset, LAN.
Only device that wasn't recognised was the Sound Blaster. I'd disabled on board sound in the BIOS. I thought this odd, as the SB had worked on the old PC, so I knew the drivers worked under Vista.
I re-downloaded the drivers and tried to reinstall, just in case. The driver install claimed no compatable hardware installed and quit. I checked the BIOS/Manual for any way to enable/disable PCI slots, in case this was the issue, no joy.
I then tried an old PCI network card in both PCI slots, just to see if it was mobo or card. The NIC was recognised straight away. At this point, I assumed I'd done something stupid and blown teh sound card. Oh well, get another one, slight upgrade to enable me to us the HDA front audio sockets on the case, which would be handy.
So bought a SB X-Fi Extreme (PCI) card. Installed... and same effect - card not detected. Tried new drivers, tried both slots, nothing. Put the NIC back in - recognised. Either SB card - nada.
Tried cleansweep to remove all traces of Creative sound card drivers - nothing. Tried on-board audio, this works... but DoW II and Red Alert 3 stutter badly, which is what I got from the on-board audio on the Dell XPS420, and prompted me to go sound card in the first place!
I even tried the most extreme option - wipe hard dri'ves and reload Vista from scratch. Still wouldn't locate them (I've reverted back to my original Vista build now, from a Windows Home Server backup image).
Gonna try the SB cards in other PCs at work this week just to confirm if they are working... but the chances of both a previously working card and a brand new one both being broke seem remote...
So help! I'm not sure what else I'm missing...I do understand that they all have supported Vista Drivers, but your website says that some functions may not work under Vista. All I am trying to do is to select a card that all functions work out of the box when I install it with Vista instead of finding out later that all functions do not work under Windows Vista. Here is the statement from your support page:
Creative is developing Vista driver updates for many of its soundcard products. Many are already available on the web for download and installation to support existing customers. However, after installing an updated Windows Vista driver, some features that work on Windows XP may no longer be available due to changes in the audio architecture for Vista. See below for details specific to your product.
So what I am asking is Pre-Sales Help to help me select a Sound Card where all functions of the card works under Vista which I will use only for Moves and Music, no games.
