No audio on My iMac

Had MacKeeper installed on my iMac. Lost all audio on my computer. Uninstalled MacKeeper, got rid of it. Still no audio. Suggestions

I think the SMC has more effect on the sound system than the PRAM.
SMC RESET
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
Wait 15 seconds.
Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.

  • How can I input stereo audio to a iMac late 2012?

I can't wee where I can input stereo audio to my iMac (lat 2012) so that I can save the digitized audio to the music library.

I have one of these (iMic)... Sometimes I need to get a song off of a cassette and this does the job.
USB Audio Interface: iMic lets Mac and PC users add stereo input and output to USB computers — even computers that lack audio-in or -out ports.

  • Lost audio on my iMac with Mavericks download, any ideas?

I've lost all audio on my iMac with the download of Mavericks, does anyone have an idea?

I did get my audio working again, don't know for sure why exactly, but here's what I did. First of all I have my external speakers plugged into my headphone jack. I had zero sound of any type plugged in or not. First thing I did was to reinstall Mavericks - still no audio. I tried everything on the computer that said "Sound - Mute - Volume etc... computer geek I'm not. Under System Preference I went to Sound clicked everything, Under Output I clicked on headphones - It was already On, I clicked it Off then On again - all my sound came back. I'm not sure why since I had no audio sound with or without the speakers plugged into the this jack. Maybe it was a combination of things and I got lucky. Hope this helps!

  • Audio issues on iMac

The audio of my iMac has stopped working, but earbuds ok. How do I fix it?

    This solved my problem:
"... disconnect and reconnect your ear buds from the jack on the iMac's back panel several times ..."
The internal speaker option wasn't available until I disconnected and reconnected earbuds from the jack several times.
    Thanks,
    Gus

  • The audio on my iMac G5 suddenly quit.

I hope you can help.  The audio on my iMac G5 suddenly quit.  Music in iTunes doesn't play, and there's no audio on
videos from YouTube.  BUT I don't think it's a hardware issue, since the chime DOES sound when I reboot.
I went to Preferences and Sound, and saw that there's nothing in Input, but the Mute is checked and greyed out.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?  I have no idea how it got muted; I didn't do anything.  And since it's
greyed out, I have no idea how to unmute.
    Any advice?  HELP!  Thanks!!!

  • Help!!  No AUDIO output from iMac through FW to mixing board (zed r16)

With my system stated below, I run an Allen-Heath ZED R16 board via FW. PROBLEM: I get NO Audio output to the R16 when I play iTunes or DVD/CDs in the iMac.
I DO get audio feed when I playback projects from Logic.
I have checked all System Prefs on the iMac (cahnged to the ZED); on Logic (changed to the ZED). I tried all different channels, routing, etc. NOTHING.
    Can someone help?

Well, the Allen-Heath support site had the answer... quite surprised and pleased!!
Have to reconfigure the iMac speakers in the Audio/Midi preferences. The details are found in this URL:

The ZED R16 is a great board but certainly not Plug' n Play.

  • Mini DisplayPort to HDMI transmits no audio on 2011 iMac with Lion 10.7.2

    Hello everyone. I'm new here.
I have a 2011 iMac which was shipped with Lion and I updated to 10.7.2. I am trying to connect my iMac to my televison to play my movies, etc by using the HDMI connection. No VGA connection on this TV, which is what I used to use before upgrading computer and TV. I ordered a MDP to HDMI adapter from ebay which says it supports audio. The seller is reputable and I do not see any issues from their other customers.
I have the MDP to HDMI adapter connected to an HDMI cable connected directly to my 46" Panasonic LCD. The video transfers perfectly, but audio continues to be played from computer's internal speakers. I've read through as many posts as I can find. I see many which tell you to select HDMI in System Preferences>Audio. There is no option for HDMI here. I only see "Internal Speakers" as the output option.
I called AppleCare and even spoke with a Senior Advisor. They say I need to buy one of the two adapters they recommend in their support article. (I get the impression that they just wanted me off the phone.) Those are overpriced and I think this adapter should work, as I see other customers of this same product are satisfied.
I've tried resetting PRAM and also SMC. I've taken a look at the audio settings on my televison, all to no avail. I don't understand why HDMI would not be shown in Audio under System Preferences. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!

    Same problem.
All my equipment is directly from Apple, except two items bought December 2011, namely a 24" Sony Internet TV and a high end HDMI cable bought from Sony.
My Macbook Pro 15" with its 10.7.2 Lion and Intel Core 2 Duo let's me plug in a Moshi DP HDMI adapter via the HDMI cable to the Sony Internet TV.
By selecting the source on the Sony TV, I can get the display working. My Macbook refused to see the Sony TV until I switched to Mirror Display, but now I can switch between the two display modes fine with no problems.
But the audio does not work.
Really rather annoying, considering that there have been problems with this feature in several OS X generations now - after apparently working fine once upon a time.
Dear Apples, kindly could you tell me when you will re-introduce audio support through DP HDMI connectors?

  • Does mini display port support audio on my Imac? Late 2009

    Hello,
I would like to connect my Imac to my home entertainment system.  I have the late 2009 21.5" model.  If I get a mini display port to HDMI adapter will that run both audio and video for me or do I have to run seperate audio?
    Thanks!

The good news is Yes.  You just barely made it, support for audio over MDP is:
    iMac (Late 2009) and later.
Make sure to buy a MDP to HDMI adapter that supports audio.  It should say this explicitly like this one.

  • No audio when connecting iMac to LED TV

I connected my iMac (using a mini display to DVI adapter) to my LED TV (using an HDMI to DVI Digital Video Cable), the picture appears but the only sound there is is that coming out of the iMac. Under system preferences their is only the internal speakers displayed in the output section. Please help!

When you connected the mini-display port to mini-dvi adapter, you lost any audio possible. dvi standard doesn't support audio. If your iMac is a early 2009 or earlier, it doesn't support audio over the mini-displayport. The late 2009 and mid 2010 iMacs support audio over the mini-displayport per this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241
Hope this doesn't confuse you too much.

  • Combined audio & video from iMac mini DVI & headphone ports to HDMI to TV

I presently have my iMac connected to my Sony Bravia tv so that the video goes from the mini DVI port through a converter to HDMI to a 25 foot cable, a HDMI coupler and another 25 foot cable to the TV. The video quality is good since I use 24 AWG cables. The audio goes from the headphone port through a 50 foot 3.5 mm cable to a converter to RCA stereo cables to the tv. The audio quality is not very good with this setup and I would like to send the audio over the HDMI cable with the video so that I would have only a single cable over the 50 foot run and could use a HDMI wall plate for a neater installation. I am wondering whether anyone has tried this somewhat expensive solution to my kind of problem, and whether it worked. Atlona DVI + Digital Audio to HDMI Converter. Model: AT-DVID-HDMI

Not sure if it would work. The audio input is described as +audio (SPDIF) input+ which is not analog or the Toslink optical digital. SPDIF is a digital format, so you would need another converter. And since the video input is full DVI, you'd need a different adapter for the iMac's video output.
Considering the complexity, additional adapters, rather long travel length, and $199 price for the Atlona device, depending on what you want to show on the HDTV, you may want to consider an Apple TV. The older 40GB version is $149 at the Apple +Special Deals+ page. You can then stream your content wirelessly, and not have to worry about any cabling. But obviously, an Apple TV does not stream everything that that iMac can play, so it would only work if what you want to show is stuff you can play in iTunes. Plus you may want to see what Apple introduces at the 1/27 special event.
The iMac's audio output port doubles as an optical digital port, with a Toslink adapter, so if the Sony Bravia has optical digital input, you may be able to run a Toslink cable. I believe 50 feet is too long, so you would need some type repeater at the midway point.

  • Audio in my iMac is not working

I was using an external speaker when the audio suddenly change to integrated speakers. Few minutes later, stopped all. I tried to turn on and off the computer, unplug and now, I can't hear the initial sound too.
O bought this iMac an one week ago!
    Any help?
    thanks in advance.

yes, its probably the best solution, but I'll lose 6 ou 7h to restore all files to a new computer, go to the shop... at least onde day spent in a week with lots of work to do.
    Anyway, thanks for your help.

  • NO AUDIO - (Late 2013) iMac with Windows 7 64-bit

    Hey everyone,
I have been scouring the forums to find something that will help me, but I have yet to find anything that works.
    Here is my problem:
I recently installed Windows 7 64-bit using bootcamp on my (Late 2013) 27" iMac. I have the latest drivers for both OSX and Windows 7, and I used bootcamp 5 to install them. But I have NO AUDIO whatsoever, and I can't seem to find anywhere what audio controller I actually have. I tried using a bluetooth headset as a work around, but windows couldn't find any drivers to install it. It's supposed to be "plug and play", at least wireless and play. No drivers should be needed. This makes me think that I'm missing any audio drivers at all, and I have no idea how to fix this with the very little info I have on what's actually inside my mac. Any help with this would be great. It's getting very frustrating.

have you tried looking in devices under windows?
unrecoqnized devices should have a yellow !

  • Takes a while to play sound via audio interface on iMac

I purchased iMac along with Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 USB audio interface and started having following problems from the beginning.
When I play video/music on itunes, logic or whatever apps that plays sound, it takes a while(about 20 sec) to play sounds. Sometimes it does not play sounds at all until I turn the volume halfway up on Focusrite Scarlett 6i6. It happens all the time when I play sound for the first time after turning the computer on. It happens when I start using the computer after a while. Sometimes it turns off the sound even when the music/video is being played. I had problem with latest Scarlett driver and still happens after switching to class compliant mode. It seems like it takes time for the computer to wake 6i6 via USB, but I am not sure. Please help!

Well I have done the disk cleanup and it still didnt fix it. I just got this player yesterday too I have about 3.5 gigs on it. I didnt get my usb 2.0 system yet, but im just really worried about these long load times for the songs on the player. Im gona try loading some mp3s and see how those go.
edit... I just loaded up some MP3s and they start in about 3-4 seconds. A lot faster then my WMAs from yahoo, but still I was expecting mp3s to play instantly pretty much.Message Edited by Johnwashere on 05-2-2005 2:26 AM

  • Recording audio on my iMac

This may sound like a simple/dumb question, but I'll ask it anyway!
How do I record audio that is playing on my iMac? For instance, say I wanted to record the audio from a video on YouTube? I've tried downloading a couple of programs (the last being Audacity), but I can't figure out how to select the internet audio as a source for recording.

  • Audio problem on iMac running Mavericks using FW

I have a brand new iMac running Mavericks. I have a 3Tb hybrid drive which I wonder whether this has something to do with my problem.
I am trying to use my Yamaha Motif XS rack with firewire to route audio. I bought a Thunderbolt to FW connector and a 800 to 400 lead.
I run iTunes and everything works fine for about 60 seconds and then the audio hiccups and stops. If I switch back to built in audio and then back to FW then I’m fine for another 60/70 seconds.
    Can anyone advise?
    thanks :-)

You should be able to download and install the updates from here:
Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Macintosh
In older versions of photoshop elements, the updater never worked, even when the applications were brand new.
I think the problem is that the Adobe Application Manager needs to be updated to a newer version, but since there will be no more updates for pse 9, it may just be better to install the two updates
from the link above and leave well enough alone.
Anyway here's a link to the newest Adobe Application Manager

  • System Crash w/ m-Audio FW410 on iMac 10.5.4

Ok, I'm posting this to see if anyone else has had issues with the m-Audio FW devices on 10.5.4. I have had repeated issues:
    m-audio driver version 1.8.4
    -no audio
    -device not recognized
    -Static
    -Kernel Panic
    -Device resets itself
    -and more
I have read the threads and have kept close tabs on m-audio and their driver issues. I also see that there are posts about different iMac firewire chipsets.
I also have a presonus Inspire and have had no issues occur. Below is the kernel panic I received today. can anyone help shed light on this. I am also working with m-audio tech Support to resolve and will be sending them my unit so they can test.
I am very frustrated as my FW410 device used to be very stable under Tiger and then issues began to surface around 10.4.9 and continued with Leopard and got progressively worse. My device is pretty much useless since the audio keeps dropping out.
I have gone through the myriad protocol of repairing permissions, install and uninstall the m-audio drivers, etc.. Hope someone here or at Apple can tell us what's going on:

Yes, I'm aware that there have many driver related issues with m-audio. I actually purchased a Presonus Inspire as a backup. It works fine with no issues and it uses core audio, but I just don't like the preamps much. I must say m-audio Tech Support has been great, they are swapping my unit so I will be able to test the new device soon. If I continue to have issues though, I will have to move on to something else. What other interfaces use core audio and are not dependent on drivers?
    Thanks
