U400 not displaying audio, brightness levels

Hello,
I recently purchased a U400 and audio is playing correctly, and the hotkeys are working well. However when I first purchased the machine and adjusted the audio volume or display brightness a bar would popup and show me how much out of 50 I had left to turn up. After running all my updates this no longer happens with both volume and brightness and I can't figure out why.
If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

can you try to re-install power(energy) management? if it doesn't work, please, re-install the graphic card drivers, too.

U400 no audio

I just did a clean install of Windows 7 Home premium on my u400 after adding an SSD. Everything is working fine, except that I have no audio. All drivers are installed, and device manager shows no problems. Unfortunatly, I accidentally wiped the recovery partition, so using that is not an option. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there maybe some special set of Lenovo software that I am missing?

Hi, I was having the same issue as the OP, but when I allow Windows to reinstall the appropriate drivers it simply installs the HD Audio Device drivers and not the specific Conexant audio driver Lenovo provides. I can manually reinstall the Conexant driver (the same version that came with my laptop is provided on the Lenovo website) but I am met with the same issue, which is the Conexant smartaudio device not actually outputting anywhere.
When I simply use the HD Audio Device, I can output to the speaker, but not to the audio jack. Even though there is a Headphone device listed under my audio device manager, it seems to be outputting to the wrong place (it says Front Panel 3.5mm jack while the mic input, which I haven't tested, says Right Panel 3.5mm jack).
Everything was working fine prior to the transition over to the SSD, and strangely, only the audio has stopped working.

No Audio via HDMI on U400

Hi,
I got my new U400 a week ago. Today I tried to connect the laptop to my TV using HDMI.
but the audio does not play on the TV, I looked in few forums, which suggests that I need to switch the audio to Hi Definition Audio Controller, from the Control Panel->Sound->Playback.
I only see one audio playback device listed there (Conexant Smart Audio HD) which is my laptop speakers. I right tclicked on empty are and selected both disabled and disconnected devices, but no HDMI audio controller is listed.
Any help on this issue is appreciated.

Satellite U400-108 - Audio driver failure on Win7

Hi,
As the title says, I've been trying to install the Audio driver on Windows 7 beta build 7000 but to no avail. I actualy wasn't going to bother as the drivers that came with Win7 were working fine until today when my headphone jack stopped working for no reason. Was working fine a few days ago, but today, no go. Keeps saying they're not plugged in when they are.
Tried half a dozen different drivers but none are working.
So, I either need information on what driver might work on Win7 or why my headphone jack stopped working. Any ideas?

I dont know why this happened but Windows 7 is only a beta operating system and such errors/problems are normal.
So try to find an other driver for the sound card or the devices. Search on the manufactures website from the driver or try to use driver from Vista.
In your case I would install Windows Vista or XP to work without problems.

Satellite U400: Need Vista install order and Control buttons don't work

I bought an Satellite U400-11T model with french windows Vista.
I want to change the french Vista to hungarian Vista.
Of course I bought a legal vista HUN and downloaded the drivers etc.
I am interrested in about the install order called installation instruction like at the XP models.
My second problem is; I have already installed the new Vista HUN and the 6 easy key touch buttons don't work anymore.
Where can I switch on it or wich program must i reinstall?

Satellite Pro U400-15I - Sound Wheel not working after Windows 7 install

The sound wheel on my Satellite Pro U400-15l does nothing after the Windows 7 clean install from XP pro.
I used the recommended Software update tool downloaded from Toshiba. The VolumeIndicator.exe process is running and the sound works OK - just not under the control of the wheel! Also the Toshiba Power control is not there but this is not a problem.
Any suggestions welcome.

Hi Syntax,
there is no option to add the volume control to the taskbar in the control panel.
The sound driver is 'Conexant High Definition Smart Audio 221'
Interestingly, when I click on the speaker icon on the taskbar and select the mixer option I get 3 sliders called 'Device','Applications' and 'Sound Volume Indicator of Toshiba Control'. If I move this slider with my mouse I get the indicator I am looking for ( The Toshiba indicator I had under XP). However, this slider only works as a 'minimum' for the other sliders.

Satellite U400-17R - Sound device is not working after installing XP

Hi there,
I purchased a U400-17R Model with Vista Home. i Formatted it and installed Windows XP Professional downloading the XP drivers from Toshiba site.
Everything works but my Sound Device is not working. when i check in the Device Manager the Sound Drivers are there and it says working properly.
I am Lost...Can anyone please help?

On Windows XP you have to install two patches from the Microsoft Knowledge Base for high definition audio cards. If you only have SP1 or SP2 you need the patches but if you have SP3 you dont need it because they are a part of SP3.
Both patches or SP3 must be installed *first* and then the sound driver. So if you have installed the sound driver first you must remove it and then install the patches again. After this it should work with the sound:

Hi sunstreaker,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
The integrated microphone can be used with other Applications Most common are Audio/Video chat like Skype, Yahoo Messenger etc....
But you can also use it to record,
   Just make sure it is on by going to the Settings.
    Go to Control Panel / Hardware and Sound / Sound.
       You should have a Windows with tabs on top
           Go to Recording Tab and make sure it is Enabled.
Now Open a search By:
Windows 8 - Press Window key + W and type in recorder
Windows 7 - Hit the Start button and type in recorder
You should be given an application that says "Sound Recorder"
Launch it and you can record any audio input through the Mic.

No audio via HDMI on Dell S2440L

I have a Dell S2440L monitor with HDMI out. The audio does not work on the monitor and the settings under audio states that the device has no output controls. Is there any resolution for this?

Satellite Pro U400-23M - a good buy?

I'm thinking of buying a Satellite Pro U400-23M. I have a few questions to you guys who own a U400 laptop.
Does this computer support 64bit processing? I'm not sure if the Vista operating system which is included is 32-bit or 64-bit.
Does it run quietly and cool when surfing the web, typing in Word and under easy workload like that? Does it get very loud and hot if it's running more demanding programs like Photoshop CS3?
I know this video card is not ment for gaming, but does it handle older games like Call of Duty 4?
Do you recommend this laptop? I tried searching the internet for reviews but I couldn't find any for the U400-23M model. What are the pros and cons on this laptop?

I dont have the Satellite Pro U400-23M but Im a owner of the Satellite U400-10N.
I use it in my office any I love this small baby.
You should know that the U400 has 13.3display and its smaller as the P100.
So you would notice definitely a difference.
A friend of mine said that 13.3 would be too small for him but for me its optimal. I can take it everywhere and sometimes Im working while traveling around the world
So Im very satisfied.
Ive installed Win XP on this U400 and its functions perfectly!
But you can install Vista 64bit too. The Satellite Pro U400-23M uses the Intel Core 2 Duo T5870 CPU which supports 64bit
But note; the U400 is not really a hardcore gaming notebook.
My U400 supports an Intel graphic chip and usually I use it only for office applications, (web) graphic design and web browsing.

Can't burn CDs (but can burn DVDs!!) Satellite U400-20v

I have a satellite u400-20v. There was no problem at first to read or burn a CD or DVD but after I setup windows 7 ultimate. my cd rom now can read both CDs and DVDs and can burn DVDs but can't burn CDs (data or audio). The burner gives me an error msg as soon as it begins writing the cd. My optical drive is called Mat**bleep**a DVD-RAM UJ862AS ATA device (at the device manger).

iTunes can be a bit flaky on 64 bit Vista since it's not supported but it has been known to work.
Try updating your CD/DVD drivers here -> http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/drivers.cfm
Also, make sure the your other firmware & drivers are up to date.

Unable to capture audio

Hi,
Last week I updated the drivers for my Blackmagic Multibridge extreme. Now when I try to capture the material in FinalCutPro 5.1.4 I can see the picture, hear the sound on my monitors (they are connected directly to Multibridge), but the captured material doesn't have sound, because it takes the sound from the internal audio input. I tried to capture from Blackmagic Deck Control (an external application) and it works fine, it captures with sound. So I suspect I have to change the audio input in FCP, but dont know where. In audio/video settings in FCP everything is set to DeckLink (Multibrige extreme).
Where is the problem?

Unable to capture audio from BlackMagic HD Extreme via Voice Over tool

Hi !
I'm trying to capture audio via my BlackMagic HD Extrem card using the Voice Over tool in FCP6, but I can't, no audio is incoming.
I can ingest audio with video using log and capture, then I know my card and my cables are working.
I tried to set the BM card as audio input in my Audio's System Prefereces Pane, but it isn't working either.
I've been looking on the BM website, but I found nothing.

Unable to capture 2 audio tracks

FCP refuses to capture 2 audio channels?! I have one mic on channel 1 and another mic on channel 2 but FCP captures only 1 mono track eventhough in Clip Setting both channel 1 and 2 are selected. Does anybody know what could be wrong?
Another thing is that when I have captured a clip - it won´t appear automatically in the Browser as it always has done? Now I need to import the Clip from my Project folder. FCP going crazy.
