No audio or access to set AE preferences

I have no audio during playback in AE CS4. Using RAM preview, audio is not muted within AE. Entire program also tends to lock up. Footage is HD. Audio fine when running Final Cut. Master files are QuickTime and AIF. Unable to access preferences to check these settings, get this error message on all prefs: "After Effects error: getting volume info - disk error (I/O error; bad media) (-36). (3 :: 89)"
This footage & project ran fine in my own Mac AE system, but I'm just getting familiar with this particular system:
OS 10.5.8 MacPro, 16GB RAM, 2.26GHz Quad-core, No OpenGL, both ATI Radeon HD 4870 & NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 installed (not sure which it's running through). Ideas appreciated!

I had already run repair permissions to no avail. There was a stream of incorrect permissions listed which did not change after the repair. This is a system I'm using at a new job position, so I don't know its history.

Setting Portlet Preference in Backing File for Clipper Portlet

Hi All,
I have a clipper portlet, and I am setting the preferences(for form based authentication & passing application data dynamically) in the backing file which is then associated to the Clipper portlet. I looked up at the clipper constants that are available; and the example they have given is
portlet.setPreference(LOGIN_FORM_EXTRA_PARAMS, "name1=value2&name3=value4")
My question is what is this "portlet"?? is it an instance?? then whose instance/object it is?? how am I suppose to declare it in my Backing File??
Any input on this would be appreciated.

I'm guessing here... but I think that the example is referring to a PortletPreferences object, which can be obtained through a PortletBackingContext with the getPortletPreferences() method. To obtain a PortletBackingContext you just use the static method PortletBackingContext.getPortletBackingContext() and pass in the request in the backing file. Disable User Access to Accessibility Pane in System Preferences

Hello Everyone,
What I want to do is have a user account which does not have administrator access have access to the System Preferences App but not access to certain functions. Things I want to disable are Accessibility, App Store, Dictation and Speech, Keyboard, Parental Controls, Secuirty and Privacy, and Users and Groups. The reason for this is that this is something I am trying to get setup for as a new design for the user allowances to assist with some issues that have been reported by teachers for sets of student laptops. As a note they need to be able to access things like the Printers and Network menus because these are laptops which are assigned to the students. They will go home with them so they need to be able to have access to change the settings for networks and add printers.
For some background of changes to the system that I have made. I have given access to the students using Directory Utility so they can edit the print settings without having to use an Admin password by updating the groups settings and adding them to the Pritner Admin's group manually. I am planning on blocking access to certain programs like Terminal because the students are using it to force the laptops to "talk" in class which they think is funny but the teachers are finding it disruptive and have asked that I disable this for them. I also am using Netinstall to mass deploy the image that I am making because I need to deploy this to around 100 devices.
I look forward to any suggestions everyone may have for this.

I usually post over in the education section when I am posting questions. This is more a question of how do I modify what is available in the system preferences pane than related to me doing a mass deployment. I put those notes in because usually people start off with comments like disable system preferences or why would you want to block access. What I really need is OS specific rather than mass deployment. The search system also loves to look in the iPad forums and just reports back thinks like how to turn the settings back off once they have been turned on. As it stands I do disable the keyboard shortcuts but that does not keep the students out of the pane sadly.
Thanks for the ideas though. If I cannot get an answer here I will try over there next.

No clue why the final processes have suddenly started to take so long. Two things I'd try: a) capture from an older tape to see if some problem with the new tape is at fault. And b) check the health of your RAM and the hard drive.
The red frame sounds a bit like a glitch we used to have in OnLocation (actually in its predecessor HDV Rack) which was caused by a partial GOP. But that was a product of HDV Rack recording from the live video stream. It turned out that HDV cameras intentionally interrupt the data stream for an instant upon starting to record--specifically to avoid recording a partial GOP to tape. So my gut says that the tape has partial GOPs at the points where you stopped/started recording.

Access wireless set-up program for HP 3050 printer

I'm trying to connect an HP Deskjet 3050 J610 printer to my wireless network. It's an older model so the CD that came with it is not compatible with OS X 10.9.1, but the printer driver is already loaded in the operating system. So I'm able to print using the USB cable but when I try to connect with my Belkin router via WPS the printer won't connect because it has a pre-assigned SSID. I'm unable to find any configuration program on the computer that would allow me to change the SSID on the printer manually. So far HP has been no help so I'm hoping the Apple community might have a few more answers.

Usually this is the case but this is a rather old printer. It has no way to access a set-up program via the printer, only WPS capability. That's why I'm wondering if there is a way to access it via the computer. Mavericks has the driver built in but doesn't seem to have a way to access the printer set-up.

IMail: How can I set mail preferences to display actual email address and not short names.

Even though I have it correctly set in Preferences , i.e. "Use Smart Addresses" is unchecked, the addressee automatically changes to the person's name rather than the email address. I am unable to find a way to display the actual email address option on iMail (Yosemite) I do not want nicknames/short names but want the actual email address to display on my address line. Can anyone advise please?

When using multiple libraries, is it possible to have a set of preferences for each one? For example: I have an Apple Lossless library which contains all of my music and I’d like to create an AAC library for use with my Nano. When I create a new library and change the importing preferences to 256 AAC, those settings remain when I open my Apple Lossless library.

Is there a way to set a preference for image resolution in PSE10?

Once I transfer image files from the camera to the Organizer (PSE10), they are listed in the information panel window as having a resolution of 180. I use the printer more than the internet for these files, so I really want the resolution to be 300 or above, and would like to set a preference to that effect. I know that I can resize them individually, or by a group, but I'd like to get the resolution set properly in the first place rather than adding yet antoher setp in my post processing efforts. I am assuming that the resolution is set by PSE10 because I can't find anywhere in the camera's (Canon Powershot SX40 HS) user manual that mentions that the camera sets a resolution. Is there some way that I can adjust the resolution that PSE10 assigns the images when they are imported into the Organizer? I'm using Windows 7 with 12GB Ram. Thank you very much.

I'll guess that you've used a page layout document & pasting created a text box. You can add more pages & create linked text boxes, but I think you'd be better of using a word processing document. In word processing documents there is a basic text layer & additional pages will be created as needed to fit the text. Take a look at the toolbar of your document. If it says "sections" for the +page icon it's a word processing document, if it says "pages" it's a page layout document.

How do I set my preferences to open most recent catalog?

I'm running LR 4.1 with ACR 7.1 on a Windows 7 64 bit OS.
I set my preferences to open most recent catalog.
I then open another catalog and do some stuff in the catalog but when I start LR next time it keeps going back to a different catalog. How can I change the settings so it either opens the most recent catalog or I get prompted for which catalog I'd like to open (I've tried both settings) and LR still keeps opening the same catalog.

In the same dialog that your screenshot shows select as per this screen shot:
Your setting should open the catalog you most recently worked with. If you work on catalog A, then open catalog B, with your settings Lr will open with catalog B the next time.
