No audio signal from Keyboard

Equipment is as follows:
Tascam us-122 with the latest installed drivers
Motif ES 8 Keyboard
Garage Band 2, new ibook g4
Pair of Rockit 5 speakers
Setup:
From the 'audio out' on the Motif I have generic stereo cables running into the 'LIne in' Left and Right on the front of my Tascam-us122.
From the Left and Right line out I have cables running into a pair of Rockit 5 speakers.
I also have a mic plugged into one of the XLR inputs on the Tascam.
Now onto the problem:
While in Garage band, I can record, and playback audio from my mic fine. The keyboard however will not pick up any audio signal what-so-ever. When I go to create a new track in Garage band, I am choosing 'Real Instrument' - Basic Track - No Effects. I've tried changing the input, switching the monitor on and off nothing seems to be working, Any ideas where I could be going wrong??
I do know the difference between Midi and Audio and in this case, I just want strictly the audio sounds that are being played on the keyboard to record into garage band for some simple editing.
Thanks - James

I tried with no luck to get a picture of the keyboard with a decent view of the back. What kind of audio out does it have? My keyboard has left and right 1/4 inch plugs. I connect to them using two mono cables into a stereo track on my mixer (two female 1/4 inch left and right plugs).
What kind of inputs does the Tascam have? If you are trying to use the RCA type plugs designed mostly for auxiliary in and out this may not work as well.
When I use my keyboard in church I send each output to a separate track and pan them according to what they are (left panned left, right panned right.)
One way to check if the keyboard is sending out sound is to see if the sound come through headphones.
On my Yamaha there is a 'keyboard out' menu. The 'keyboard out' can be turned off. By default it should be on but you may want to check it anyway.

  • Converting audio signals from mydaq into discrete values

    Hi guys!
I am currently building a project that accepts audio signals from mydaq. I wanted to make the analog signals have it descrete peak values. Is this possible? I plan to use the discrete peak values and sum them up using a shift register instead of doing peak detection. I think it is more easy.
Any suggestions would help. Thank you very much!

Well actually, i wanted to make the acquired signal have its discrete values because i will use the number of peaks of the sound to determine which sound is louder (my assumption is that, the louder the sound or the nearer the sound to the microphone. The more sound peaks can be acquired. While lesser peaks are acquired the least louder the sound).
That is wrong (unless you are dealing with Doppler Shifts, but they implies the object is moving).  Closer peaks mean that you are dealing with a higher frequency (or pitch).  Louder sounds just have higher amplitudes (larger peaks).

I will acquire sound signal from the mydaq, then detect the peaks and add those peaks while it is entering the acquisition. I wanted to make it discrete so that i will be able to add the numbers and the addition will stop once the sound is no longer present. The sound im talking about is a sound burst. Or a single instant sound and is not continuous.
Just use the peak detection function.  You can then add whatever peaks it finds from the current acquisition.

just  the audio, eh?. If you were using DVI or DisplayPort that might be different, but for audio alone, it shouldn't be that hard.  Just grab a 3.5 mm stereo plug to 2 rca cables adapter. Plug the smaller end into the back of your Mac Pro (or the Front), where you see either the headphone or speaker icon). Alt-click on the speaker icon at the top of your screen to show all audio inputs and outputs. Make sure it's set to Line Out.  Plug the red and white end into the audio in jacks on the back of your tv and set it to the correct input. I don't know if your tv will allow just the audio to play. Usually one has to connect up something else, but hopefully I'm wrong.  If you were using DVI, or DisplayPort, you'd need an active DVI--HDMI adapter or a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, but
    I don't know for sure

  • Recovering audio signal from PCM stream

Hi i want to recover an audio signal from a PCM stream which is being transmitted by a third party  system  on RS 422 wires. the only information i have about the PCM stream is
    sampling freq              16kHz
    bits                                 8
    quantization tech          u Law qunatization
over all PCM data transmmison vlaue mentioned  is 2.408 M bits
please suggest me if it is doable or not . further more suggest the proper NI hardware as  well as software modules required to achive this. will NI 9401 do this job

    Tirmizi,
I think it may be possible.  You could not use a 9401 but if you had a USB to RS-422 converter you could probably read the PCM data into LabVIEW using VISA functions.
If you can successfully import your data to LabVIEW, I found a similar forum post that explains the functions in LabVIEW to use to create a .wav file and what you can do with it:

Why is it not possible and is skype intending to implement the ability to use the video signal form a digital camcorder connected to a tv?
A lot of people these days have digital camcorders or digital cameras that produce video signal. Why can't those be supported as video input by skype?

    Hi,
The following ports are at the back of your computer:
    Figure 4: Back I/O panel
    1 - USB 2.0: 4
    2 - LAN
    3 - DVI-D
    4 - D-SUB port (VGA port)
    5 - Audio: Line in
    6 - Audio: Line out
    7 - Audio: Microphone
You already mentioned DVI-HDMI : it works but no sound. That's true because DVI does not carry audio signals. All you need is using RCA cable to connect port #6 to your TV.
    Regards.

  • No signal from keyboard to garage band

    OSX 10.8.2 - GarageBand 11- KeyStudio M-Audio Keyboard
    MacBook Pro
System is on. USB attached. No signal showing up in Software Instrument Track, no sound. In GB Prefs, It says 1MIDI input is detected, but nothing is happening.

Nevermind, I figured this out myself. M-Audio does NOT support even OSX 7 much less OSX 8. (Yet they still sell it in the AppleStore)???
That doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Anyway, my keyboard is dead and that is why. Others, beware.

  • Help! Logicpro9 is not registering an audio signal from my scarlett 212

Greetings.  I just got Logic pro to make audio recordings first, paired with a Scarlett 212 and there is no signal.  Is there an idiotproof way of doing the settings on logic pro 9 so I can make a quick and dirty recording?  Thanks!

Assuming you have installed it, you have to select the 212's driver in logic's audio hardware preferences. set an audio track to the appropriate input and hit record.

  • As there is no sound only picture when connecting my ipad, do I need to also use the audio cable from Apple TV to an older Philips TV?

I have just bought a black Apple TV and it works fine when connecting my iPad to a modern TV.  However on an older Philips TV, there is no sound coming through.  Do I need to use an audio cable from the optical digital audio port in addition to the HDMI cable?  The TV's HDMI does not appear to support sound.

Thanks.  However no luck with this TV so far.  I've purchased a converter to give a digital audio signal from the optical digital audio output port.  The TV has an input audio digital port, but I've had no success in getting sound so far.
Is there any setting in the Apple TV menu that may affect the signal.  I've tried the setting for 16 bit signal, without any success.
Perhaps this Philips TV may just not be compatible with the new black Apple TV.  I have talked at some length with Philips support desk, but they've offered nothing new.

  • Apple TV 3 audio signal goes off after each song?

My Sony receiver has to reaquire the audio signal from the ATV 3 at the beginning of each song when streaming songs from the Mac. This causes a fraction of the beginning of each song to be missing. Very irritating. There is a clicking noise at the end of each song as the receiver loses the audio signal at the end of each song. Is there a way to work around this?

  • Is there a VI which reads audio signals off optical SPDIF port?

    Hi,
I am trying to capture audio signals from a DAT unit on to the computer's hard drive. Could you please tell me how can I read these signals off an optical SPDIF port using Labview and save the streamed data as a wav file? I am using an audio capturing interface called the Edirol UA-5 to transfer the audio signals from the DAT unit to the Mac's hard drive.
    Thanks,
    Bhuvana

    Hi Bhuvana,
There are not any VIs in LabVIEW designed specifically for SPDIF.  There is, however, a tutorial on reading an SPDIF signal using LabVIEW FPGA.  You may also be interested in this thread which discusses the use of a digital data acquisition board and the rate needed to read an SPDIF signal.

  • Transmit audio signal using Bluetooth

    Hi LV folks.
I am trying to find a way to connect to a Bluetooth module and then send a audio signal, which comes from an external device, to this module.
After searching I found this instrument:
    http://www.anritsu.com/en-gb/products-solutions/products/mt8855a.aspx
According to the documentation it has the ability to connect to a Bluetooth device and then transmit an audio signal from an external source to the Bluetooth device.
But it is pretty expensive and I don't need all of it's functions, so I was wondering if anyone has an idea for a cheaper alternative?
Is it possible to receive the signal on a PC-soundcard and then via LV transmit the audio through a Bluetooth connection?
    Thanks for listening
    Stephan

Well, LV does have the low-level functions for interacting with a Bluetooth interface. The question is how complex the protoicol would be to make it able to communicate with a speaker or headset.
For what it's worth, I have used a cheapo BT interface to talk to a Wii mote from LV.

  • Recording Audio from Keyboard into Logic

    Hey,
I am new at Logic and trying to figure out how to get the songs from my keyboard onto Logic. Could someone please help me out?
    Logic 8
    Fast Track Audio Interface
    Korg Triton
    Mixer
    Thanks!

    logic1080 wrote:
That helped. Now the audio from my keyboard and computer run through the mixer.
Still no signal in logic when I press a key on the keyboard though. Is there a special setting in logic I should be in?
Go to *Logic Pro>Preferences>Audio>Core Audio>Devices>* select Fast Track as the input device
Also, I only really got strong signal from the keyboard into the Fast Track interface when I previously plugged a 1/4 mono from the L/R Output of the Triton into the Guitar 1/4 mono slot of the audio interface.
I can't understand why they should build an Audio Interface that has only 1 mono Input ,I think this can accept stereo signals depending on the jack you plug-in...but that's just me Check the manual.
Does the Audio Interface has a control panel or something...like most of them?(You could find it in Applications)
What selections can you make there?
Do you think the problem is where the RCAs are located? The line outputs of the Fast Track are connected to "7L 8R" on the mixer and the ones connected to 1/4 mono cable are in "Rec Out"
Here you mean 1/4 mono (Instrument) to the *Rec Out* of the Mixer ...yes that's fine.
Note: When I press a key on my keyboard I get signal in the mixer. It's just not in Logic or the audio interface.
Can you hear what the Triton's playing on the speakers?
If not turn up the volume on the channel you have the Triton connected and the Stereo Out ...make sure that the Gain level is not too high on the Triton channel (a red light below the Gain pot will illuminate when it is )
Have you turned the Gain knob labeled instrument on top of your audio interface...clockwise?
Check Logic's Audio Preferences to make sure that you have the Fast Track selected as the *Input Device*
And supposedly that is a mono input ,you make sure that the Audio track you have created in Logic is a mono track(1 circle instead of two indicating a stereo) and you have enabled the record button for that track......
    Thanks!
    No probs...

I have an iPhone 4 and would like to stream the sling box signal from my phone to a TV. Is there a cable that will do this?  I have heard that the only thing you can show on the TV from your phone is content stored on your phone.

TV out on the iPhone 4 only display video out for the apps that support v'ideo out. The app description in the App store will say if it supports TV out. iPhone4S will mirror the iPhones screen with VGA or Digital AV adopter.
