No audio T520 displayport Dell U3011

Hi,
I've connected my T520 to Dell U3011 30" through a DisplayPort cable, using discrete graphics.
I'm not able to get  audio from the monitor.
From Sound Settings, I can see Dell U3011 (4-High Definition audio device is enabled), and also can see the bars moving when I play any audio.
I also checked the Dell U3011, and the audio is set to 2.0.
Ccould you please give your comments/suggestions?
Thanks1

There are a number of threads gone on the Display port and DP to HDMI adapter.
In a nut shell many don't pass sound.

  • USB Hub in Dell U3011 not working over Mini-DisplayPort(Thunderbolt) when it did with previous MBP

My previous MBP, a few years ago - the first generation with Thunderbolt - was able to generate a USB connection over Mini-DisplayPort with my Dell U3011. My late 2013 MBP is able to send display and audio, but seems unable to detect the USB hub in the monitor. I am on 10.9.4. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I turns out that the logic board of my MacBook Pro was faulty (despite being brand new).
I took it to the Apple Store, presented the problem, and one of the Tech's came to the same conclusion that I had -- hardware failure.  Phone support was no help in the matter (and even told me that what I was trying to do wasn't a supported option, which is rediculous).  However, the Genius Bar did take care of the problem, and my MacBook Pro was back to me with a replaced logic board within a few days.
    Hope that htis helps.

  • FIX for Dell U3011 displaying YPbPr instead of RGB via display port

I kind of hacked my way around and got my Dell U3011 to properly display RGB instead of YPbPr (or YCbCr) over a mini display port to display port cable for my MacBook Pro Retina 15"! WOOHOO! no need for that stupid $150 dual link dvi to mini displayport adapter anymore, which was incredibly flakey and sometimes the monitor turned on, and sometimes it didn't etc... lots of problems.
    Download the file from:
    http://www.8mmdesign.com/u3011-rgb-ypbpr-fix/DisplayVendorID-10ac.zip
    unzip into:
    /System/Library/Displays/Overrides
It will create a new directory called:
    /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/DisplayVendorID-10ac
Then reboot the system, and it should work. Go to system preferences, displays, color, and set the display profile to Color LCD.
This will *ONLY* work for the Dell u3011 and it is completely UNTESTED. Use at your OWN RISK. But you should have proper RGB colors after doing this.
    Good luck!

This post helped me: http://ireckon.net/2013/03/force-rgb-mode-in-mac-os-x-to-fix-the-picture-quality -of-an-external-monitor
I have an Onkyo AV Receiver TX-NR414, I'm using the HDMI passthru (connecting Mac to AVR, then AVR to TV) and my Macs where giving bad colors.
Connecting the Mac directly to the TV was ok.
So the problem was the need to force the Mac to output RGB, the above linked blog post has a link to a Ruby script that will create a profile with RGB output. Follow the instructions and it will get it right.
    Thanks to this thread too:https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4880467

  • MacMini and 2 Dell U3011

Does new MacMini supports two Dell U3011 or Apple LED Cinema Displaies

    That happens simultaneously i hoppe...
Does Thunderbolt runs Dell with 2560x1600 resolution, or displayport does it so?
What happens with HDMI and the second Dell? Does HDMI support 2560x1600 or just 1080p?

  • PS CS6 10bit with Quadro K4000 and 30" Dell U3011.  My experiences...

Hello everyone.  I had searched quite extensively when looking into a solution for my color banding on an ancient Apple 30" cinema display which was on it's last leg.  That search led me to 10bit and it's surprisingly obscure implementation in PS.  Allow me to share my experiences so others doing google searches can potentially be helped, and also pose a few questions that Nvidia could not answer for me.
First, I am running Windows 7 x64, latest drivers/patches on everything.  Everything includes:
    PNY Quadro K4000
    Dell U3011 via Displayport
    Windows 7 x64
    Photoshop CS6 x64
    2560 x 1600 Desktop resolution
So the long story here is that I did not think my combination was working.  I tried the ramp.psd from AMDs website, and saw absolutely no change.  Frustrated, I hit the internet, and unfortunately, found a plethora of AMD/ATI based help, but very very little Nvidia Quadro support, msot likely due to their "it just works" mentality (http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3049/~/how-to-enable-30-bit-color-on-wi ndows-platforms).  The help files say that the Quadro and PS will just detect the ability to use 10bit color depth and use it, but there is no way to confirm that that combination is in fact compatible without actually seeing the result.  No screen overlays, no checkboxes in the driver (as far as confirmation goes).  You can force 10bit in the quadro driver, but that doesn't tell you it's actually working.
So I got on the live support with a helpful tech from Nvidia and eventually got to the bottom of it.  Things I learned:
    - with Photoshop maximized at 2560 x 1600, 10bit did NOT work with any of the flyout panels open.  This was the number one hair-puller, and why I thought this was not working at all the entire time.  I had my history panel out.  At some point while chatting with the Nvidia rep I decided to take photoshop off of full screen so I could see both PS and the chat window at the same time. The PS window then occupied maybe 70% of the screenspace and poof.. the bands disappeared.  I slowly drag the corner of the screen out to make it larger and at some point the bands pop back in.  Odd.  So I maximize but close the flyout history panel and poof, bands disappear.  If I'm fullscreen and hit tab to hide shelves and panels, smooth as butter as well.  The Nvidia rep summized that it had to do with OpenGL overlays interfering, but had nothing to offer in the way of the resolution/screen size issue.
So I either have to view 10bit as a toggle, or not use my pallets as flyouts in the main PS window, or not maximize PS.
So, I'm sure there are other people running this combo, so I'd love to hear your results.  ATI/AMD cards are clearly a different driver set, and thus, probably totally different results.  Nvidia claims there is NO resolution limit to 10bit written into their driver, so the resolution being the problem did not make sense to them.  That laid the blame purely on Photoshop.  I'd love to hear from Adobe on the matter.
In any case, hopefully this helps someone struggling as to why they see no difference on that gradient image.  It is literally night and day, so if you aren't seeing that "pop," it's just not working.
I must say that, as I've read in countless other posts, in actual photos, this 10bit can be a very minimal improvement, but it is noticeable in some of my shots where I have color grads on skintones.  The red burn is gone, and it's a much smoother transition.  This is insanely evident in purely CG created gradients or gausian blurred overlays, however.  I have a few CG-assisted background hotspots with the addition of a gausian blurred screen of white, and it has helped that quite a bit.
I, for one, welcome out 10bit overlords.  Hope this helps someone.
    Cheers
    - Justin

"Have you tried disabling desktop composition (Aero Glass)?  I have heard there can be conflicts there that prevent drivers from enabling full 30 bit color."
This is disabled automatically by the Quadro driver the second you turn on the Deep Color option.  And no, as someone who uses his machine for production moreso than pleasure, I immediately turn all that stuff off anyways as it's useless.
I will test that file after work tonight when I get home.  No 10bit here.  Irony.
Thanks.  I'll also try to make a video/animated gif of sorts to illustrate the difference to your naked eye.  I was also quite clueless as to the "real world" implications when I started looking into this, as all you really find are generated gradients, which seem doctored at times.  Seeing the pop happen with your own eyes is quite interesting, and a definite selling feature.
Oh, also, I will add that I previously ordered the new U2713H from Dell, and I was 100% disssatisfied with the backlight bleed, as well as the color representation and quality control.  Mine had a very terribly noticeable yellow color bleed in the lower left.  I found this to be a regular occurance for these newer LED backlit monitors, and ultimately returned it and went with the older CCFL U3011.  It is far superior IMO and only slightly more expensive.  Highly recommended.  This forum posting swayed my ultimate decision away from the U3014: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1751499

  • RMBP in Mavericks won't put Dell U3011 to sleep

I have a Dell U3011 screen which is connected to the system using DP. For some reason the screen won't turn off when the system goes to sleep. It acts as if the cable has been unplugged when this happens. So I'm wondering if there is a way to get it to sleep when the computer is asleep?

Hmm, looks like I was lying I'm no longer using the original DP cable, I broke the adapter that I had when moving to a different office. At the moment I'm using:
    http://www.dx.com/p/cy-dp-017-mini-displayport-male-to-displayport-data-cable-fo r-macbook-more-white-180cm-177514#.U3UOYVgxImM
It's pretty OK, works 100% but it's isn't shielded that well. Sometimes when I stand up from my desk chair the screen goes blank for a fraction of a second, I guess because of the static electricity. Not a big deal because I'm usually not looking at my screen when I'm leaving my desk, just a small nuisance.
I also tried this one but that one is crap IIRC:
    http://www.allekabels.nl/na/0/1076161/minidisplayport-naar-hdmi-adapter.html
(and quite a bit more expensive but I needed something fast at that time).

  • Dell u3011 intermitently goes black

Hi, I have the latest MBP up to date and I am using a Dell u3011.
The screen works fine until it goes black (the LED remains blue, it does not go to sleep) then either it will come back on after a couple of seconds or it does not come back on at all
Then I have to turn the screen off and on and wake the mac up again.
I am mostly using the Macbook in clamshell mode but I sometime leave it open it behaves the same.
At first I was using the crazy expensive Dual DVI cable from Apple Store, then a friend of mine put me on to MDP to DP port and that worked well for a while but now it's back to the same.
I have good days where I can work for a few hours and bad days where it drives me crazy, doing it up to 10 times in 15 minutes. This is my second monitor and they both had the same issue.
does anyone has the same issue? Rather anyone had the same issue?
your help is appreciated, it seems it happens more frequently as my workload increases .

    Hi all,
I did manage to solve this problem, however I am not entirely satisfied that this is what fixed it.
we used to have a hard drive (for time machine), a mouse, an iphone cable/docking station plugged at the back of the screen.
It turns out that as soon as I stopped using the usb ports at the back of the monitor, the issue disappeared.
Maybe I had a bad usb from the mac to the monitor ? I was using one that was pretty think and I'm pretty sure it came with the monitor.
I do not know if it is a coincidence, I did not re-plug everything back in to see if the problems would come back, I do not want to jinx it.
I ended up buying a powered usb board on ebay and I'm using that for the ever growing usb devices on the desk.
I hope this will help someone out there.

  • No Audio through DisplayPort in W500(Displayport to HDMI)

I have issue in getting audio when i use DisplayPort to HDMI cable to connect  HDTV with  in W500(ATI mobility FireGL V5700 ) with Lenova provided driver 8.752.4-101022a-107489C
But from ATI website can i use Driver version 8.773.1.1 for W500 ATI mobility FireGL V5700 TO SOLVE the audio over display port to HDMI Issue?
HDMI option is not shown up when i press Fn + F6 (advanced audio)
Is there any separate audio drivers for this model ?
Can i able to install microsoft HD audio UAA driver for this model?
In 2009  forums  , Intel limitation was mentioned . I thought by this time any fix available for this issue
This model has discrete switcable graphics option between (intel AMT and ATI fireGL mobility)   And ATI has the feature of Display port audio  , HDMI audio from the latest drivers.
Does it mean Lenova have n't integrated the latest reference driver from ATI to solve the issue?
Any way to enable audio in BIOS level ?
I heard the same model with NVIDIA graphics card can able to get audio through display port to HDMI cable
    Thanks in advance

This wiki page says it is possible for w500
    http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/DisplayPort
Audio over DisplayPort when used in conjunction with a DisplayPort to HDMI conversion cable is confirmed to work on W500, T410 and T510 both on integrated and discrete graphics options on Windows systems.
    So it is confusing.
please justify for the reply/answers so that we can conclude.
    Thanks

  • 2560x1600 via HDMI? Dell U3011 monitor.

Connected my new Macbook 12 Retina to my Dell U3011 (30" 2560x1600 native) via the Apple USB-C Digital AV adapter and HDMI.  The max resolution I can set is 1920x1200.  On the display settings page on my Macbook, it's set to 60hz and there's no option to lower it to 30hz.  Any ideas?

Bravo!  It never occurred to me to try HDMI to DVI.  It works!  I got 2560x1600 at 60Hz via HDMI to DVI (single-link).
    So, in summary...
    via HDMI - max 1920x1200 60hz
via HDMI to DP - does not work
via HDMI to DVI - max 2560x1600 60hz

  • T520 DisplayPort -- HDMI cable recommendation needed

I just purchased a T520 with discrete graphics (nVidia NVS-4200M) and would like to use my HDTV as an external monitor at its native resolution (1920 x 1080). The DisplayPort --> HDMI cable I plan to use should carry both graphics and audio.
Since I've read about other issues with similar cables/adaptors not carrying both graphics and audio when used with the previous nVidia NVS-3100M card, I am writing to request a specific recommendation for an Display Port ---> HDMI cable (not adaptor) with my particular configuration.
    Thanks.

I have the same ThinkPad model.
I bought this product and it works fine for graphics and audio.

  • MBP & Dell U3011

Hi I just purchased a Dell ultrasharp U3011 30" monitor. I was planning on using my laptop to hook up to it in clamshell mode and was wondering which display method I should use to get the max 2560x1600 resolution. The monitor accepts the following:
2 High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI)
2 Digital Visual Interface connectors (DVI-D) with HDCP
    1 DisplayPort (DP)
    1 Video Graphics Array (VGA)
    Component Connectors
Oh I have the latest macbook pro 17" i7. I also already own a mini display port to HDMI and was wondering if that would get me to the 2560x1600 max resolution on the monitor. If not what is the best choice to do so?

This hack seems to work. It isonlyfor U3011. I can confirm that it works:
      Resolution: 2560 x 1600 @ 60 Hz
      Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)
      Display Serial Number: ******
      Main Display: Yes
      Mirror: Off
      Online: Yes
      Rotation: Supported
      Connection Type: DisplayPort
MBP earlier reported this as Television : yes  and did not work if i had sent the color input as RGB.

  • MiniDisplay Port (Thunderbolt MacbookPro) to DisplayPort Dell U2410m don't work! The signal only comes as YPbPr, no RGB and bad quality. Is there any solution?

I want to connect my new MacBook Pro via DisplayPort to a Dell U2410m monitor.
But the signal only comes as YPbPr, no RGB and bad quality. Is there any solution?
It works with the mini display port to DVI adapter from Apple but I want to use the DisplayPort.

    J~
cmelbourne91 was suggesting HDMI because many of the MDP/Thunderbolt to DVI adapters come with an additional DVI to HDMI (not Apple's) and you likely won't find any MDP to HDMI becuase of something weird with one of the Apple or HDMI related patents and the type of cable/jack/plug required for it.
As for my computer (15" MBP mid 2010), it almost seems as if I have your problem but intermittently. When connected to an external monitor or projector, the thing will project just fine, but then after some time (and no movement of the computer, cables, or screen) the connection quits. Sometimes it comes back on, sometimes it does not, but it basically registers as if there is no external display.
    Any additional info on this?

  • Mini server + Apple LED Cinema = audio through displayport?

When using the current Mac Mini (I'm interested in the server model without the optical drive) with an Apple LED Cinema Display, will audio be carried through the displayport into the Apple display's speakers?

The newest Mac minis (Mid '10) have both audio and video in both the m-DP and the HDMI ports. The late '09 Mac mini also had both audio and video through the mini-DisplayPort.

  • Audio over displayport?

I can't find an official apple response to this matter, does the new mac mini transmit an audio signal via it's new display port?
Display port does support audio, and display port to hdmi adaptors support audio, which means I could connect a mini to my hdmi tv and have the audio work properly.... IF the mac transmits audio over display port.
    What's the word?

So if you connect the new LED display to the Mini with the only connector available on the monitor (i.e. the new mini displayport), how do you get audio into the monitor and be played through it's 2.1 sound system?
Surely, this must be done through the mini displayport?

  • Urgent!!! ***Audio driver for Dell dimension 4300 running on Windows 7***?

? Hi, I just upgraded my Dell dimension 4300 which was running on Windows XP pro to Windows 7 32 bit. Everything is working fine except my sound. I cannot see my audio driver through system information or anything. So I had to open my CPU tower and found out that my sound card is Sound blaster li've model CT4780. Can anyone please tell me how do I use this card with windows 7. I don't know if it will work with Windows Vista driver and I couldn't find a driver for it. I went to dell's website and that driver didn't work, probably was not compatible with Windows 7. Now in my Device manager setting I see these drivers with question mark
    - Ethernet controller
    - PCI simple communication controller
    - Multimedia audio controller
My bios is A04. Can anyone please help me with that. I searched everywhere possible for a solution, but couldn't find one. I will really appreciate if someone can save me.
    Thank you

You need a lot more than just the non-existant driver for your sound card, you also need motherboard/chipset drivers and there aren't any for that either. You computer has the Intel 845 chipset in it,
    <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4300/specs.htm#0572"]http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim4300/specs.htm#0572[/url]
which Intel declared "end of life" a few years ago. Without a working chipset driver it doesn't matter whether you have working sound drivers or not.
In your case you would be far better off holding off on Windows 7 until such a time as you have a new computer that actual has Windows 7 support.
