No audio tracks when sending from Final Cut?

Hi,
I'm working with a 90 minute edited sequence in final cut that I've nested in another sequence to create a continuous video with a stereo audio track. When I send it to soundtrack (multitrack project) for mixing, the video is there but the audio tracks are blank.
Does any one know why this is happening or have suggestions as to what I might do differently?
Thanks in advance.

I ended up exporting the sequence inside my nested sequence and that worked as it should.
But all of my audio tracks were given their own track in Soundtrack which wasn't what I wanted. Finally I exported my nested sequence "for soundtrack" and applied the effects and filters to the resulting file's audio tracks and saved it. I then imported the file back into FCP, put it in a sequence and made any adjustments that I needed before exporting it with compressor.
I don't know if this applies to what you need to do but I hope it's helpful.

  • Video does not display when sending from Final Cut Pro to Motion

Suddenly, when sending an audio & video sequence to Motion, a new Motion file is created, and all my layers come in properly, but the video does not display.
The audio plays fine, and Motion clearly know that there are video tracks there, but it does not display them.
Additionally, when rendering the Motion file back in FCP, it turns in to black video.
I have previous sequences within the same project that were sent just fine, and are editable properly, but any new ones I try to create just come out black.
    Help, please?

Do you have Motion mistakenly set to render out with an Alpha channel?
Double click your Motion clip in the Timeline. Go to Modify > Composite Mode in the menu bar and set the Alpha to "None/Ignore".

  • Audio dropout when exporting from Final Cut Pro X

My video looks fine on the timeline, but when I try to export the audio drops out at the first edit.  Anyone know why?  I haven't had this problem on the previous videos I've cut on FCPX, and I haven't changed the settings on either importing or exporting, so I'm totally confused and frustrated!
    Thanks!

Luckily I wasn't risking days of work.
Our in-laws were coming round yesterday and I suddenly remembered that I had promised them DVDs of our grandson.
So I desperately started editing a couple of hours before they were due and of course one problem after another cropped up, partly caused by one of the videos being shot on an AVCHD camera I had bought a fortnight ago together with one on my old HDV camera.
Anyway they went away with the DVDs albeit the AVCHD shot one had no dissolves!

  • Length of clip expands when sending from Final Cut to Motion

Hi everybody. I'm a motion beginner, so pardon me if this is a boneheaded question. I have a clip whose speed has been slowed in an FC timeline. I sent it to motion in order to switch the method of speed alteration to 'optical flow'. The clip in the FC timeline is three seconds long, 62 frames. It's an excerpt from a clip in the browser that is 10 minutes long, 14,000 frames.
The clip opens in motion at the correct length -- three seconds -- and it looks the same as in the FC canvas. However, when I select 'optical flow', the task list says Motion is analyzing 14,000 frames and it finish in 27 hours.
Why is Motion applying the change to the entire master clip and not just the piece that I sent from FC? And is there a way to force it to deal with just the piece?

Because that's what Motion 3 does - analyzes the entire underlying media file. Your options: 1) In FCP, export the clip with handles, import, and replace, then send that shorter clip to Motion or 2) Upgrade to the new FCS, in which Motion 4 only analyzes the section of the clip you are interested in.

  • "media server application expectly quit" when submitting from final cut pro

browsing through the list, it seems the problem couldn´t be solved so far.
doing some systematic testing, the following riddle shows up:
... when adding a QT ref movie (or movie) directly to the compressor batch list and submit to the cluster, everything runs fine.
... when exporting from final cut pro:
    menu -> export -> using compressor ...
    submitting in compressor using:
    1) Cluster: this computer: everything keeps running fine.
    2) Cluster: MylovelyCluster ....
the job fails with the message "Failed: HOST [clusternode_name.local] media server application unexpectedly quit"
since there is 5TB + of data to be compressed, copying files to the render nodes is not an option. all data is on a shared xraid, connected via giganet.
Any ideas, any hints appreciated !
    regards,
p.s. Anybody running an XSAN having the same issues?
    G5s, G4s, G3s, macminis, powerbooks   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   xraid

... well, the answer is in other topics.
showstopper explains it patently again and again ...
    thanks from here.
shortly: when submitting from FCP, every node HAS to have FCP installed and MUST have access to the same relative file path (mounted shared volume). If the volume is not present, the render node will open the reconnect media dialogue and waits for user input.

  • Color differences when exporting from Final Cut

I have a big problem when exporting from Final cut to any file format. The colors and contrast looks fine in Final cut and on my external monitor but when exporting to, for example, H.264 I get a file that is "washed out". Colors are bleak and the over all feel is not what I expect. The funny thing is that if I import the exported file into Final cut it looks fine. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone help me out with this?

QT brightens the image. Dunno why...perhaps so that it ensures that every monitor can see it?
    Here is an example:
But I don't know why that is.

  • Retiming after sending from final cut

I have tried to send a clip to shake from final cut 5.1.4. When I apply a re-time, I lose the edit points and all of a sudden I find I am dealing with the entire captured footage the clip is taken from rather than the clip from the timeline. I know that the roundtripping between final cut and shake is not the smoothest, but this is an all-out problem. Any thoughts?

MIchael Mench has an excellent tutorial about sending to shake for retiming here:
    http://library.creativecow.net/articles/menchmichael/slowmotion/video-tutorial.php
    It's really worth studying carefully.
A lot of people avoid the "Send to Shake" functionality altogether.
Just export the clip using the same settings, tweak it in Shake,
    and import back into FCP.

  • Send From Final Cut Loses Frames

When I send my clip from Final Cut to Shake it loses frames from the beginning and end. Can anybody point me in the right direction to fix this?
    Thanks!

I have watched all of your clips and learned a lot but your final cut just seems to work differently than mine. One thing though, when the clip comes back to final cut it has not shifted frames.
I exported the entire clip out of Final Cut and then started a new project. This new clip exported into Shake just fine so it must be a Final Cut issue and not a Shake issue.
Any idea of why this would happen? I am using an off brand camera (casio ex-f1)

  • Video quality bad when compresed from final cut pro to dvd studio pro. HELP

    Hello,
I have a dvd project im working on and first i tried the video that i captured from final cut to just use in dvd studio pro but that didnt work. then i used the compressor and used the 60min high quality video and that looks even worse. what do u suggest i do?

You must get to know what these settings do to be able to use Compressor. Try using a 10 second test of your video file and encoded at different settings to get a feel for how compression works.
Min 4 and peak at 7, a difference of 3 between min and peak is a good start at CBR, but you must test.
Just like using a video camera, if you use the same exposure setting all the time, most of your pictures will be unuseable, either too dark or too light.

  • Losing Audio Tracks When importing from 5.1 to 3

I was capturing video on one of the new intel imacs in FCP 5.1. Afterwards I'm importing the files into a project on my powerbook g4 with FCP 3. For some reason I only get 1 audio track when I import the files.
The files on my imac all say 1V and 2A and have the two separate audio tracks. But when I import them on my laptop I get only 1V and 1A. I've tried everything I can think of and changed all the settings I can but can't figure this one out. Can anybody help me?

This has been posted by others in the past, there seems to be changes in FCP 5 and/or QuickTime that make its media not fully-readable by earlier revs of FCP.
I would recapture in FCP 3.

  • Audio won't follow in- point  when exporting from Final Cut Pro

I am using Final cut Studio 2 on a Brand new mac pro which is connected to a an AJA IO pro box (not IO HD). If I set an in point on a time-line in Final Cut pro and send it to Compressor, only the video uses the in point. The audio starts from the beginning of the time-line. This is a huge annoyance and something I used all the time on my G5.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Yea that worked. I was mostly trying to debug it for my client today, since they have the same system I do, minus the AJA and I have no problems sending to compressor with or without marks. Is this a "known" bug or is something with the AJA setup?

  • Send from Final Cut Pro X Trial to Compressor 3.5.3

In the Share menu, I've selected "Send To Compressor", but it tells me I don't have Compressor installed. I do. It's 3.5.3. I've opened it separately and it works fine. I've tried reinstalling Compressor, and trashing Final Cut's preferences, and still no luck. Any suggestions?

FCPX will not Send to Compressor 3, it requires Compressor 4 to be installed. Hence the warning.

  • QT Error -8961 generated when exporting from Final Cut Server

Not sure about this one.  We have a user that is trying to export a clip through quick time via Final Cut Server, but they are getting error -8961.
Has any one heard of this error before?

Yes, go into the Admin window in the Java client (as opposed to the System Preferences pane) and go to Transcode Settings. FInd the setting you wish to be able to export with, double click to open it, and add the "Export" device to its list of destination devices. Save and close. You may need to log out and back into FCSvr to see the changes reflected in your Export window.

  • Files don't play smoothly when exporting from Final Cut Pro

    Hello,
I have this strange problem that's haunting me for weeks (well months now)...
I've made some videos, shot with a HD-camera (Sony, HDV HDR-FX1E (PAL)), 1080i), and I want to export it to the apple TV.
The problem is that the videos on the appleTV dont't run smoothly, they don't really stutter, but they do have a problem, like they're missing a frame...
Now, I don't know what it is, but I tried everything.
I've tried all different settings in
    - Compression, like progressive, deinterlacing, keeping the interlacing, changing it to lower field, changing the framerate to 24 fps (as I read somewhere in another post as that 25 fps would be the problem).
    - MPEG Streamclip
    - ffMPEG
    - Visualhub
Well, I even tried it on a PC...
But all with the same result.
Then I tried it to convert the to DV (through the camera). But all with the same result.
So I thought it could be on my footage, but my originals are fine. When playing on my TV they play smoothly, even the edited ones.
When exporting the same edited files to DVD, the DVD plays fine without a hitch, but you can see a downgrade in quality...
    The standard conversion settings where:
1280x720 (PAL) @ 25fps, 3 kbs (I started higher, but i downgraded), and then I tried all the above settings...
I also lowered the dimensions, but that didn't work either.
Then I dit a few tests with Handbrake and converted a (home-)DVD and, as to my surprise, I had the same problem!
BUT! The apple TV plays trailers and movies from the store without any problems...
TV is set to 1080i (Sony). But I also tried 720p, 576i, 576p, all with the same effect...
On the tv side... The files are not streamed. They are played directly from the hard disk.
Even though, streamed or directly, the problem stays the same...
    I'm really desperate.
If there's anyone who could help, thanks in advance!
    Kind regards,

Been trying something else in the meantime...
On a Plextor MediaX, the files play fine and perfect, either in MPEG2 HD (ts), or Xvid HD (avi), on the same TV as the appleTV.
I've encoded them through Xilisofts video-converter (PC) and ffmpeg (Mac).
But still no luck with appleTV and the h264 encodings... The stuttering there remains
Could anyone give me the right settings for PAL and HD? Can I use 25fps?
(Well, the usual settings in Compressor doesn't seem to work, so if anybody has some more advise?)
Or could there be something wrong with my appleTV?
My rentals play fine? I don't understand it...
    Well, thanks for your time,
    Regards,

  • When sending job from Final Cut Pro to Compressor using local QCluster

When sending job from Final Cut Pro to Compressor by way of Share and using the local QCluster, the audio renders, but the video errors out saying something along the lines of Can not locate file.
If I use 'This Computer' it works fine.
    What gives?
Fresh install of OS and FCS.
    Thanks!

I'm just learning the intricacies of Compressor and Qmaster myself, but I have learned that when you use Qmaster you can not share directly from FCP. You must export a Quicktime movie (reference movie seems to be fine) and input that to Compressor. This is only an issue when using Qmaster, as you've seen.
