No audio when burning a DVD from iMovie to iDVD

Hope someone can help me here, I'm not getting any audio on the DVD I've burnt even though it's working fine in the preview screen on my desktop. Even the audio from the theme I've chosen isn't coming through.
I'm using iMovie HD 5.0.2 and iDVD 5.0.1

even though it's working fine in the preview screen on my desktop.
You can't really depend on the preview function to pick up problems with a burn. That is the reason that saving to disc image is recommended. If that works, then the burned DVD will be ok.

  • How do you burn a dvd from imovie if computer does not have idvd anymore?

How can I burn a dvd from imovie if this computer does not have idvd? is there anything in mountain lion that will allow this simple task to be completed.'
When i try to finish a project in iphoto it wont even do that...can anyone help?

    Buy iDVD.
Yes, there are other programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.

With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
IDVD is easy to get. It is available on disk as part of iLife 11.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.  (works with all Mac OS 10.5 and newer.)

  • How do I burn a DVD from IMovie?

I have created a project in IMovie 08 and would like to save it to a DVD that can, in turn, be played on a computer or TV.  However, there is no obvious way to burn a DVD from IMovie.  How do I do this?

    Hi
You start by saying - I have created a project in IMovie 08 -
But then say that You don't have iDVD ?
If You got iMovie 08 then this was delivered with iDVD - so by finding this on hard disk or DVDs and then install it on the New Mac - DIRECTLY THEN - Update (do not try it first - will mess things up) by using Program-Up-date under Apple menu. to iDVD v. 7.1.2 - and all will be well.
Only brand new Macs delivered with iMovie'11 v. 9.0.4/6 - will be delivered without iDVD.

  • I burned a DVD from imovie.  All was fine, except the DVD dropped the sound at least three times.  ???

Why does conversion from IMovie to IDvd result in periods of dropped audio ?

    Hi
    A. I do not use - "Share to iDVD" from within iMovie - but - Share to Media Browser and as Large (not HD)
    B. My notes on this
    No audio on DVD disc.
    Most common origin.
    1. Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff (Same as played on standard Stereo CD - no .mp3)
    • Use this in Your movie project
    2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
    (iM’08 & 09)
    3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provoking it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
    Minuscular - - 176x144
    Mobile - - - - - 480x360
    Medium - - - - 640x480
    Large - - - - - - 720x540    960x540
    HD - - - - - - - - 1280x720
    4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
    5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In
    6. Ed Hanna
Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies—except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format — that I have noticed.
    7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
    • OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

  • Burn a dvd from iMovie on brand new 2014 imac

I just became an imac user after 29 years of owning pc's. I record video for school functions and have always used ADOBE Premiere to produce and author dvd's. I made the jump to an imac after windows xp was no longer supported, adobe is going to cloud subscriptions and after hearing how much easier working with video was with an imac. Well.....you know what's coming....and why I took the time to jump into a forum: I figured out iMovie very quickly and transcoding to an mp4. I have a Superdrive because I was told it can read and burn dvd's and mayb even blue ray. But holy cow....is there truly no way to make a dvd from iMovie?! Really?! Or from that matter to burn a dvd from this imac? I have gone nearly blind reading through the communities and forums. I have made 3 dvd's that won't play in a Sony dvd player that plays everything I can throw at it except the dvd's from this imac. Good thing I still have my PC, maybe I should just get Windows 8 and bite the Adobe bullet. Any other suggestions? I am more saavy than the average user, which always heightens the frustration level when a simple task takes all day to reach no appropriate resolution. I don't need a lot of detail, just tell me where I made the wrong turn.
P.S. I just went to the "tags" to post this....and funny thing....there must be 50 dvd tags, but none even resembling dvd burning or dvd authoring. Is there somthing going on that I need to know about....with dvd burning on imacs or Apple in general?

  • Gaps in audio when burning on dvds and cd

When I burn a dvd and add audio, I have gaps in the playback on the audio only.

    Hello BCRC,
What make / model computer are you using?
    What operating system?
What program are you using to burn the DVD's and CDs?
By gaps are you meaning that there is a gap from one track to the next and you are looking to burn gapless discs, or are you referring to the audio actually skipping parts of the audio when burning?

  • What software do I need so i can burn a DVD from iMovies?

I simply want to burn a DVD from my iMovies and send to another party to be able to play on their computer or DVD.

Apple don't want you to do that.
The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between using iCloud and burning DVDs:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast.

  • HT1338 What has happened to IDvd, a friend of mine purchased a Mac Pro, he asked me how to burn a dvd from IMovie, his pro mac does not have IDVD to download to, only a dvd player setting, how do you burn a IMovie project now, before you went through IDVD

A friend bought a Mac Pro, I want to also, he cannot download a project movie from Imovie to IDvd, because I Dvd is not downloaded on his $3000.00 new computer, what has apple done, how do you download & burn a movie project from Imovie if you do not have IDvd software, all previous systems had IDvd on them to do this. What is going on and how do you burn now.

An alternative to iDVD - miDVD which I believe you can get from the App Store for free!

If you wish to pursue your question about burn to disc, then I would be glad for the opportunity to be of assistance.
The following would be my troubleshooting strategy and questions
    1. What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running on?
    2. Have you looked at the issue with and without the Intel HD Graphics 2000 and Higher preferences disabled
    (See Edit Menu/Preferences/General)?
    3. Where are you in Publish+Share/Disc/, DVD, AVCHD, or Blu-ray? And, what does the burn dialog's Quality Area
show for Space Required and Bitrate? What brand/type/capacity disc are you using?
    4. Is the issue specific to one Timeline in one project? Or, is the problem there with another Timeline content and another
    project.
I would prefer to see you sort out the burn to disc issue if possible because of the download problems associated with the 3rd party software
that is typically needed to obtain the disc product from the Premiere Elements VIDEO_TS, BDMV, or ISO Image. Excellent 3rd party software if you
can get it installed without a lot of companion garbage. Although how to have been described for the safest possible download and install, there
are no guarantees that you will not be hit with a lot of computer cleanup just to get one excellent program.

Help!! I am a new Mac user and have Os X Lion.  My son and I are starting to use imovie and have downloaded several video's from his new HD digital Bloggie camera.  I just want to burn a basketball game to a DVD.  So I went into imovie, followed the steps to iDVD and then Burn.  But, when I put the DVD in the TV to play, it just shows a series of Folders.  What is the problem?  I am burning to DVD+R memorex.

    Hi, you posted this in
Mac OS & System Software > Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard
You're running Lion and this is an iMovie question.  I've asked it be moved.  It will help if you post in the correct forum in future because it will speed up your getting an answer.

  • When Burning a DVD from IDVD it does not encode Video

I am having trouble burning a DVD that will not freeze. All of them come out and are read by DVD players of all kinds, but it gets about 3 minutes into the video, and it freezes. I saved as Image to Disk, and it went through the Burning process flawlessly and played through in its entire contents, but then when I tried to burn it to a DVD, it made the menus fine, but when it came to encoding the video, it skipped that part and went straight to encoding audio and it did not work. It came out with just a little video on there, but it did not use the same process as the Save Disc to Image did. When I saved Disc to Image it played through the whole project in kind of a slow motion. The Burning to a DVD did not do that at all.
    Please HELP!

I do not have 20gb free on my start up drive. I will once I delete the bulk of the project. How can I save the project to make sure that when I delete the big project, the parts that I have edited and want to not get deleted?
As for my Imovie, It is a 22 minute long home video that does include 5 chapter markers, including the one that starts the movie from the begining. There is music for every clip from my itunes. The theme i chose is the first one listed on the list. It starts in from the right side, and then scrolls across at the top. All of the menus work fine when i play my burned DVD. In fact, everything works fine except for that one part when it freezes up.
I do not understand what you mean by adding my movie to a drop zone and not to the background. The way i started it on Idvd was by clicking, create an Idvd from the menu on imovie.
I made a new step of progress and i got the encoding of the video, but it still did not work. It froze at 3:03 instead of 3:27, 3:38, or any of the others. This is the second disk i have made though that will play on my Powerbook. It freezes on everything else though.

  • Missing Audio When Burning A DVD For Grandma

I've created a short 8 minute video with an audio track on top of it. The 8 minutes consists of a 2 minute video opening created in quicktime. 4 minute slide show imported from iPhoto and 2 minutes of closing credits created in iMovie. The 8 minute soundtrack was created in garage band using several iTunes tracks. (I'M TRYING TO BE ALL APPLE!!)
Everything looks great when I preview in iDVD. However, when I burn the dvd the audio drops out about 3 minutes into the video and then starts up again at the very end (out of synch of course).
I've tried everything I can think of - created an image in iDVD and burned using disc utilities , swapped out the audio tracks, changed the photos...still nothing works.
Any suggestions?? We have a first birthday coming up and we really want to get this to Grandma. Thanks.

    Hi
Can be audio from iTunes or strange file formats eg .mp3 etc.
iTunes - Copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff
Other audio formats - convert to .aiff 48kHz 16-bit
Use this and it most probably works.

  • Trouble encoding audio when burning to dvd

I have finished editing a nearly 2-hour long wedding video and all is going well, everything encodes fine until....it comes to my audio. I have now tried to burn this movie 7 times to dvd and EVERY time it freezes when it reaches the stage of encoding the audio. Any tips?
    Message was edited by: Bri

    Hello, trouble,
Welcome to the discussions. Sorry you are having so much trouble burning your DVD. What exactly do you see when you think it is freezing? Does it just look as if nothing is happening? Do you actually get a message that says there is a problem with the burn?
If you are using any version of iDVD prior to iDVD 8, I suspect that your audio is encoding fine and not really 'freezing'. It will LOOK as if everything has stopped, because the those versions did not include a 'time remaining' notice. You can see a small thumbnail of the menus encoding, and you can see the video of your movie as the video encodes, but when audio encoding is occurring, there is only a black square. Depending on your computer system, the process can take some time. I recommend that you just leave it alone, maybe overnight, and see if it is fine in the morning. On my older iMac, a nearly 2hr movie might take over 12 hours to finish encoding/burning.
I do recommend that do a 'save as disk image' for every iDVD project.
If you are not familiar with this process, it is the creation of a file that is an exact replica of your iDVD project. The encoding looks the same as it is occurring, but the end result is a disk image file, not a burned DVD disk. There are several reasons to do this: It can save you from wasting disks if there is something wrong that prevents a successful burn; you can view your disk image on your computer using the application DVD Player to view your project and see if it is ok; you can use the disk image for burning disks through Disk Utility (or Toast); and you can control the burn speed--should be 4x or less.
And, you now have a self-contained image file that you can save and from which you can burn disks in the future. Because it is self-contained, you can safely delete your iMovie and iDVD projects, thus saving drive space. Even though you can burn another DVD using one that you already have burned, the disk image file is a better backup. DVD disks can crack, break, melt, etc. and if you lose your copy, you will not be able to burn another.
