No audio when clip dragged to timeline, FC Express

I'm working with an older version of Final Cut Express, 4.0.1. My video clips in the beginning of the Timeline have audio but now when I try to place new clips in the Timeline, the audio for those clips won't play...no waveforms. It does, however, play in the Clip Viewer. The clips were all captured the same way, .mov files.
Please help! Thank you.

On the left of the Timeline is the video/audio Patch Panel. They determine whether video or audio or both are entered.
If a patch Panel is dis-connected no video or audio will be entered.

I edit undo to remove dragged clip and it reverts back to 4 channels of audio on timeline as does the audio mixer? Any ideas as to why the audio channels and mixer changes?

you can check the clip you are dragging to the timeline, if it has 8 tracks... can check by right clicking it in the project bin, choose modify, audio channels.

No Audio When Clips Dragged From iphoto

Hi. I am a little confused. I imported some pics and video taken from a digital camera into iphoto. This material appears in the Media button in imovie HD. However when I drag the mpeg clips to the timeline, the video works fine but there is no audio. When I play the video clips in iphoto, the audio works fine. Any suggestions on how to get the audio working in imovie? Thanks!

iMovie can't extract the audio from muxed file formats (MPEG 1 and 2 and Flash).
Convert your MPEG-1 files to DV Stream using the free MPEG Streamclip application. Use the new .dv file in iMovie.

No audio when clip is dragged into movie

I found this out the hard way.. I made a movie in iMovie, and then made a dvd in iDVD, and found out (after several hours of work) that there was no audio on my DVD (except for at the menus).
I went back to iMovie and found out that my movie was no longer playing audio, it was not just a DVD issue. However, when I drag the clips back up to the clip pane and play them from there, the accompanying audio is present... but when I drag them back down into the timeline, they seem to 'lose' all audio.
This footage was imported from analog using a converter box, but I have never had these problems before while using the same equipment.
The only thing I have done differently on this project than some others is that I exported two of the clips into quicktimes for use on my iDVD menus.
Any suggestions on how to regain my missing audio in the movie??? Thanks!

Make sure you have the audio check box marked off in the time line. You'll find it in the bottom right side of the iMovie window next to the video line.

Audio doesn't drag to timeline with clip

This is probably a really obvious answer to make me feel like a fool.
I am using Final Cut Studio 7, working on a project from FCS6
I am working on a project started by someone else. I've had no problems, apart from suddenly on one part, when I drag the video from the viewer to the sequence, the audio doesn't go with it.
When I play the clip in the viewer the audio is there and also in the tabs, I can see the audio - so not sure what's happening here. Any help muchly appreciated.

Are your audio channels in the time line turned on and able to accept audio?
Do they look like this? (look at the small grab of the audio portion up at the top)

If so, then you need to click those to allow audio to put on the timeline.

Lose audio when clip in timeline

New problem. CS3.
I set the in and out points of the video in the source monitor. When I drag it to the timeline, the audio is not there. I assume I inadvertantly changed the output button. I currently have it set to composite video automatic quality. I have tried the other settings and am sitll not getting the audio into the timeline. I do have the audio in the source monitor.

Aha, I have tripped upon the answer. The problem was not the output button, but rather I had inadvertantly hit the "take video and audio" button. Switched that and magically, all is well. (I also got my husband's birthday cake decorated-this must be my lucky day)!
....I never knew that button was there....

Sprocket Holes in Viewer When Clip Opened from Timeline-Can't Use Filters

This is new...never seen before. "Sprocket holes" appeared in the mark in & out area in the middle of a current project. Can't get rid of them, even in a new project..they return. Manual says this indicates a segmnet clip but I've never had them in 6 years of FCP editing. I can't open a clip from the timeline to apply a filter or adjust one already there from a pre- existing clip or project. Very frustrating and on deadline. Ideas??

That's quite normal when you open a clip from the timeline. That indicates that you aren't looking at a raw clip, but rather from a clip that is in the sequence. When you double click on a clip in the sequence, it opens in the Viewer and you see the sprocket holes in that area. VERY normal.
And this is precisely how you add a filter and tweak the settings. Add the filter to the clip in the timeline, then double-click to open in the viewer...and adjust.

2 Cameras 1 Audio Synchronized Clips lost after timeline review

Hello. I have embarked on a film project and I am trying to sync and log the footage effectively so that a remote editor can begin work and we can utilize the same titled footage. So that he and I can work effectively from the same material, I am syncing all footage and titling it by scene and take. So far I have synced two complete scenes. Occassionally I would open a synced file in the timeline just to review and make sure everything was in order. Then I would highlight the material in the timeline, delete, it, and move on to syncing the next 3 clips. This is why I did not notice that although the title of the synced clip remained in my list of " - Synchronized Clip(s)" the clip that I had opened and then cleared from the timeline was actually blacked out completely. It was unplayable. It was as though once you added a synced clip to the timeline, you had to use it or it was gone. But as I said, the title of the clip remained so I didn't notice that some were gone.
This has proven very frustrating to me. I have tried to synchronize clips and then turn them into compound clips, but that does not seem to allow me to "break apart" the synced clips for future cutting.
My goal is to completely "sync" the two cams and 1 audio track for editorial review, and then export the entire Library to a hard drive for a two editor work flow.
What the heck am I doing wrong? Or, am I doing anything right? Thanks so much for your help.

You mean once you've deleted it? If this was the synced clip, you just have to resync it.
Once you've opened it in the timeline you don't have to do anything. Just open sonething else into the timeline or open a project.
Sync clips aren't in the Finder. They're simply two separate clips combined in the sync clip container.

Audio quality changes when I drag to timeline

I selected one part of a video, placed it on my timeline and suddenly the audio changed to a terrible quality. The problem is that when I play the same part on the preview it sounds completely normal. I was using the same video(but not the same part) earlier and everything was fine, now every part I try to put on my timeline(I even tested the ones i've already used) gets the audio messed up. I am working with a video of a lesser quality along with an hd one, but I don't know if it has any influence in that, I was using both earlier and i've done it with other project and it was okay but I don't know... Can somebody help?

Is the FCE Sequence matching your imported Clips?
Right click the Sequence icon in the Browser and select Item Properties.

No Audio When I Drag A Clip Into The Composition

When i try to put audio into a composition it is removed and no audio comes up. It is not a RAM preview issue as there is no audio to play. When i import any clip into after effects it works fine but if i try to add it to a composition the audio is taken away and there is not even a waveform. I tried converting the audio to a .wav format but that still doesnt work. I have tried this with after effects cs6 and cs5 but the prblem is the same. I have a mid 2011 imac with an i5 processor. I have even tried using bootcamp and trying to use after effects on the windows side but i still have the same problem. Please help as this is getting frustrating and it's probably a simple issue.

Yeah, convert whatever kind of MPEG file you're using to something like Quicktime's PNG or animation codecs -- with audio, of course -- and try again. MPEG files can contain multiplexed, or muxed, audio: the audio is embedded in the video, there's no separate audio track, so AE can't see it.
Astounded by the large size of the file after conversion? Get used to it.

No audio when placing video on timeline!

Ive tried creating a new sequence. I have Panasonic P2CMS Ive used the last two years. I recently started using an iMAC 3.5Ghz Intel Core i7/8 GB using Premiere Pro CC. Ive been using this system for about a month with no problems, and just today clips im attempting to import and place on timeline dont have audio track attached. Audio and video will play in the source monitor, but once I try to put it on the timeline it only has video track. I've rebooted system, and re-opened premiere and it will work for a few minutes allowing me to put clip on timeline with audio and video, then stop again.
The sequence setting is the same that I've used the past few years, up until today.

Asterisk key stops audio when trying to add timeline marker PREL8? ??

When I try to add a timeline marker using the asterisk key the audio track stops playing and I have to restart it using the space bar or by pressing play?
Any clues?

Bill, yes I am using the Asterisk key on the numeric key pad with the nums lock on. I know this function works as I have used it before in previous versions. Just not sure if I have used it before in this new installed version of PREL 8.0 that I have.
I have installed the latest updates also.

Dropping audio when dragging clip from Source Panel to Timeline

I have having issues with audio being dropped when dragged from the Source Panel to the Timeline. Audio is present in the Source Panel and plays great along with video, but when I drag the selected clip to the Timeline it drops the audio.

When I drag a synchonised clip to timeline, can I turn off the video's audio track only without breaking apart clips?

I have preparred many clips by synchonising them with audio recorded on H4N - and have these in keywords.
When I drag them to the timeline, do I have to break apart each clip item to turn off the video's audio track or is there a shortcut to doing this?

For each clip you can go to the audio portion of inspector and uncheck/disable the tracks you don't desire. That would take longer than Tom's method, but I think the audio won't show up as a blank later on.
