Sounds like you may be trying to convert a "muxed" file format. (Open your "Get Movie Info" window to check the "Format" type.) If so, use an MPEG based converter like iSquint (free) or MPEG Streamclip (free) for conversion.

  • Does iTunes normalize audio when converting to AAC?

Most of my mp3s are not normalized. I want to normalize these tracks before converting them to AAC. Does iTunes normalize audio when converting to AAC? Or do i need to normalize my mp3s first, then convert them to AAC? Thanks!

What exactly do you mean by "normalize"? Do you mean leveling the volume?
iTunes uses the soundcheck feature to do this. It doesn't automatically happen when you convert a song to a different file type.
Apply it in iTunes using the edit/preferences/playback menu (Windows).
Turn it on on the iPod using the settings/soundcheck/on menu.
After applying it in iTunes, sync your iPod to reflect the changes made.
There are 3rd party programs that do this more effectively (at least in my opinion).
    For Windows there is mp3Gain/aacGain.

  • No Audio When Converting Videos For iPod

whenever i convert video files for my ipod they do not have audio. i have tried several programs, and none work. i have read other discussions about this, and found that MPEG Streamclip worked for other people, however whenever i try to convert using this program, it says "Error: Can't Prepare The Movie" Can anyone tell my why i can't convert these videos? i cannot figure it out. thanks alot.

I am not sure what you mean when you ask what the "compression formats" are.The compression formet refers the manner in which the media was encoded and, by extension, how the media must be decoded. I.e., it determines which codec (encoder/decoder or compressor/decompressor) is to be used with the media file.
If you can tell me where to find those i could tell you what they are. I can, however, play the video in itunes, quicktime, and MPEG Streamclip.Simnce the files are playable in QT, the most common place to look for codec information is in the "Show Movie Info" window following the "Format:" entry. E.g., it might say:
    Format: MPEG2 muxed, 640 x 480orFormat: Apple MPEG4 Decompressor, 320 x 240, millions
    AAC, Stereo, 48,000 kHz
i also am not sure if there is audio in the source file.Do you hear any audio when the original file is played? If not and there is no audio track (or "muxed") information, then there may not be any sound for you to convert in the first place.
how do i find out if it is muxed? If it is "muxed," the format entry we say so. In this case blocks of audio data and blockes of video data are interspersed in a single data stream (track). This is the normal way MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 audio/video data is synchronized. In addition, these formats commonly lose their audio content when converted using QT Pro, iTunes, iMovie, FCE, FCP, or other QT based "frame-to-frame" synchronized workflow. (In the case of MPEG-2 in MPEG Streamclip or QT, the QT MPEG-2 component must also be installed in order to convert the video data alone.)
most of my videos that won't convert for an ipod are downloaded from the internet. how can i find out if they are corrupted or incomplete?Internet files should always be considered suspect -- especially if they come from a peer-to-peer source. Messages that indicated QT cannot open an otherwise fully compatible QT format is often the best indication that there is a corruption problem or that the files were improperly closed at one point or another.
most of my videos that won't convert for an ipod are downloaded from the internet. how can i find out if they are corrupted or incomplete?Normally ypu would post them to a web site or FTP storage area and post the URL. If files were downloadedd from a particular web site (e.g., a QT movie trailer), simply post the URL for the particular web page.

  • QT7Pro - Movies convert with no sound when converting to iPod

I bought QT7Pro last night, wanting to convert movies (.avi and .mpg) I have on my computer. They play and have sound in QT just fine, but when I go to convert them to MPEG-4 or convert for iPod, the options claim to have no audio track and it winds up being a silent video. How can I convert my movies without losing the sound on them?

QuickTime Pro doesn't (can't) export audio from muxed files (MPEG 1 or 2 and Flash).
Use other software to export those formats to the iPod settings. A quick search through the iPod discussions pages (now over one million views) will give you some software ideas.

  • No audio when converting ipod videos

    Hello Apple,
When I try to convert my video for Ipod use, I can see the video, once converted but I don't get any audio!!!
What can i do to resolve the problem?
    Thanks for your help,

Multiplexed video ("muxed" where the video and audio is combined on one track) cannot be converted for use on the iPod by using either iTunes or Quicktime. As you have found, if you do this, there is no audio track.
You must use a 3rd party converter.
I have used MPEG Streamclip with good results (albeit on a Mac). There is a Windows version.

  • Audio lost when converted to iPod

I have a video (48.4 MB mpg) that plays fine in QT and iTunes but when it is converted (with either) to iPod (24.2 MB m4v) using "Convert selection to iPod" the audio is lost but video is fine. Any suggestions. Thanks. Phil

Hi Phil. There seem to be some problems regarding the conversion of video files with muxed audio (i.e with audio embedded in the video file), and Quicktime does not support the conversion of MPEG-1 files. I have used the excellent (and free) iSquint to convert videos for my iPod with great success. There is also an application called ViddyUp ($9.95) which offers similar functionality, and can convert files with muxed audio.

  • Missing Audio when Converting from MPEG1 Muxed to Ipod using QT Pro 7

I just got my video iPod over Christmas. After reading up on QT Pro 7, I purchased it over the weekend, and have attempted unsuccessfully the past two nights to convert home videos (taken with my Sony digital camera) to iPod format. My home movies play fine when I open them in Quicktime; however, when I export to the iPod format (and also when I export to mpeg4 format), I only get the video and not the audio.
I've confirmed that my key for QT Pro 7 is successfully loaded, so that's not the issue.
I've also confirmed that the format of the original video taken from my camera is "MPEG1 Muxed". Several internet discussion boards seem to indicate that missing audio is a common problem for people using Sony cameras and Quicktime. If this is the case, I'd prefer to simply refund my money and buy one of the other video to iPod converters available on the web.
So, either help me solve this problem, or help me get a refund. I'm fine either way.

  • No audio when converting video for ipod 3rd generation

I read a thread that had not be answered regarding video to ipod that ends up with no sound. I wonder if anyone has found the answer to the problem. I have converted movies from imovie 08 and had no problems with sound but when I tried to convert a downloaded music video I only get the video and no sound.
Anyone have the answer to that one?
    Thanks
    Kevin

QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, when you convert videos in iTunes to iPod format they only show the video and no sound since iTunes (really QuickTime) is not looking for the audio track within the video track and it gets lost.

One way to work around this is to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the files to fix this issue...

  • Losing Audio when converting videos to work on IPOD

    Hello,
I have loads of small home videos I took using a pretty basic Hewlet Packard Camera. They are just MPG files and when I dragged them over into ITUNES then tried to sync them into my IPOD it did'nt work.
I followed the instructions and used the option in the advanced settings to convert them into an IPOD version which seemed to work. However when I sync'd then over to my IPOD they transferred across and look fine but have no audio.
Does anyone know if it's possible to sort this or are the video clips just not completely compatible.
    Thanks
    Craig.

Try using MPEG Streamclip to convert the videos; more information on this issue is available in this article.

  • Trouble with audio when converting MPEG to iPOD Video

I am following the Quick Time Pro instructions for exporting my mpegs to iPOD video format, but when I do not get any sound. I am using Kazaa to download my mpegs. Is that the issues? I don't want to pay for videos on iTunes already formated for my 5G iPod. Can you help

QT Pro does not handle "muxed" formats (MPEG1, MPEG2, VOB, some AVI, AVI MJPEG, etc.). Use an MPEG based third party application like Videora Converter.

  • NO AUDIO WHEN CONVERTING VIDEO TO IPOD FORMAT

This is really ******* me off. My .mov's are being converted via QTPro to mV4 with no audio. Why does this have to be so f*ing difficult? How can I extract the audio and re-sync it to the video? I have a powerbook and have finalcut and logic express.

There's no problem converting to an actual file that iPod plays, it just doesn't add the audio to the new file. I hear that you have to have the video and audio file with some .movs (possibly with old codecs??) before you convert them to ipod format. So, I have to extract the audio from the .mov (probably with final cut) and then import the video along with the audio back into final cut and then convert to the m4v.
I just don't know why this process is so difficult, there should be a program that extracts the audio with video to the correct format. I've tried every program and with final cut so far and none of them add the audio to the final video.

  • Audio problem when converting to ipod format

I'm trying to convert .mpg files into ipod video files using Quicktime Pro 7.0.4. I use the default options and the export goes great, but there is no audio in the exported file. Anyone have any ideas?

  • No audio when converted to .m4v?

I don't know if this is normal, but I want to get an iPod w/ Video but I'm afraid my video won't work. I have videos on my computer I want on the iPod, so I converted it like Apple.com said to. I opened the mpg in QuickTime 7 Pro and told it to export from Movie to iPod Movie. It take forever. I open the new m4v file in QuickTime but there is no audio playing. I imported it into iTunes and same thing, video played but no audio. I tried the original mpg and works fine. I don't know if this is normal and the iPod will play audio, or what. Plz help.

QT does not support the export of sound from muxed mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 files: QT Mpeg Limitations
One workaround for mpeg-1 files is to convert the mpeg to uncompressed avi, which QT will read and will export both sound and video. This freeware Windows app will do the trick. Open the mpeg-1 in VirtualDub, then go to the File menu and choose Save as Avi. It will by default use uncompressed avi compression: VirtualDub

  • Lose audio when converting avi to mp4 on quicktime

I've read the discussions on this but can't find a fix so far.
When I try and convert an avi file to mp4 using either quicktime or MPEG Streamclip, I lose the audio. I don't believe I need to download the quicktime mpeg-2 component for mac osx given I have 10.9.1, but perhaps I do (there is debate on this and I'm confused)?
I tried downloading MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b8 but it seems to want that component to attach itself. Should I therefore buy it - will it work?
Alternatively, should I buy quicktime 7 pro? I really don't want to.
    Can somebody help...please?

So I made a successful and audio distortion free ACC/AAC mpeg4 (.MP4) video from Sony Vegas for the Ziio. You are given a choice of audio (I chose 92kbps). The problem is solved. No more distortions. And all this time I was doing twice the work by importing the MPEG- files into Any Video Recorder and converting to .MP4. That was the distortion result. Hope this helps if you're doing the same kind of work by combining video and audio. Otherwise, it's up to you...

  • No Audio when converting a movie from iphoto into iweb.

    Hi there,
I have a Sony Camera W17 which takes stills and short movies. I often grab little bit so film of the kids.
Today it was my daugthers birthday so I am in a hurry to get stuff up on my web page as we have moved to the opposite side of the world to our family.
So heres the problem. When I import the stills and movie I use iphoto and I can see all in there (although the duplicate option is crap for movies).
Now if I import them from the camera into imovie or copy across from iphoto I lose my sound. I really want to use the compressing function in imovie so I can add to my web page via iweb. The problem is that I lose the sound so I resort to copying the file in iphoto and taking it straight to iweb. These files are too large for most people to view.
Has anyone gots any tips as to how I get around this? What is causing the sound to get lost yet I can hear it in iphoto. I read somewhere that says its to do with the file type but I am not sure.
    Thanks for your help.

Are you losing the sound on the movies or the stills?
