No audio when importing MPEG-2 files

I am importing MPEG-2 files from a Sony SR40 HDD camera. The video imports fine, but there is no audio track. I am connecting with a USB cable. Any ideas?

the mpeg2 files mux (mix) the audio & video together in one stream.
To work with the files in FCP, you must demux them. The application MPEG Streamclip can do this for you. Google it, it's free.

  • Premiere only shows audio when importing a .wmv file

I have a 30 sec spot that is a .wmv file. It plays normally in Windows Media Player, plays normally in Bridge, but when I import it into Premiere CS6, it shows it in the project file as a .wmv, but when I pull it onto the timeline or put it into the source window, all I see is an audio file.  What happened to the video? Why won't it import also, I know it's there because it plays outside of Premiere just fine. PPro is supposed to import wmv files but where's the video?

Buy the latest version of Nero, import the problem file to a DVD or Blu-Ray project then use the Export function. I have been amazed many times how many file types I cannot import to Premiere or Media Encoder that Nero can import and convert to something Premiere can work with.
Just yesterday I was given a 720P wmv file where Premiere gave me a perpetual "Media Pending" image for the video. Media Encoder likewise gave me a "Rendering" message that lasted forever. Nero allowed me to import the file then export as an AVCHD file with the m2ts extension which Premiere can handle.

  • No audio when importing .M2TS video file into PP

Hello hopefully someone can give some insite to why I'm having this problem. I'm using the Hauppauge HD PVR to capture HD footage from my DVR
and I'm getting mixed results when I import into PP. The video is fine and sometimes the audio works and other times it doesn't, I let PP comform the file before I try editing it. The captures are @1920 x 1080 in 5.1 audio, if I capture with just 2 channel audio I have no problem and everything is fine but capturing 2 channel audio kinda defeats the purpose of doing highdef to Bluray. When I view the same file that doesn't have audio in PP with a player everything plays and sounds fine, so I know the capturing process is fine. Any suggestions would appreciated!

    Welcome to the forum.
First, what version of PrPro are you using?
In earlier versions, pre-CS4.1, you need to copy the AC3 .dll from Encore to PrPro, to use AC3 Audio. In CS4.1 - CS 4.2, that is no longer necessary.
Now a note on Exporting DD 5.1 SS. You will need the Minnetonka SurCode DD 5.1 SS plug-in. You get 3 trials of it, then must purchase it to Export as DD 5.1 SS. If you go this route, purchase from within PrPro, as you will get an Adobe-user discount of ~ US$50. If you buy from the Minnetonka Audio site, you'll pay full price.
Also note that Hauppage might not create 100% DVD/BD compliant DD 5.1 SS. That could be an issue too.
    Good luck,

  • Dropping audio when importing  mpeg

i have a 60 second MPEG movie i need to make 1 change to. it works in my FINDER it works when i open it in QUICKTIME, it even worked in ITUNES but when i import into FCP i lose the audio. Any thoughts?

Does anybody know if Apple is working on a plug-in for FC that will allow the import of MPEGs with muxed audio? I run a local television station and we use professional video recorders such as TriCaster and Turbo and they both export in MPEG. To date, every show we shoot that needs to be edited in FC must be converted using MPEG Streamclip and it's a seemingly unnecessary step that's beginning to drive my post supers insane. I'm also assuming there is quality loss as well. Any tips?

  • Mpeg has no audio when imported

When I import an mpeg video into imovie, or burn it onto a dvd with a mac, I lose sound. Any ideas?

Convert your MPEG-1 file using MPEG Streamclip (free) to QuickTime formats prior to import into iMovie.
iMovie can't extract the audio portion of MPEG-1 files.

  • Audio component not apearing when importing AVCHD .MTS files

When importing AVCHD .MTS files into Premiere Pro the Audio component is not available (also in After Effects and Media Encoder)
What am I doing wrong :/

You could most likely convert them using a program like 5DTORGB, and then pull them back into Premiere. Although there is a chance this won't work, however in most cases I find it usually does work. Just be prepared to lose your metadata.
If your on a PC I'd recommend downloading their beta version it will allow you to transcode your AVCHD to ProRes HQ.
    http://rarevision.com/5dtorgb/
All you have to is provide them a correct email address and they'll send you a download link. When you transcode though keep in mind that it's going to make your file sizes much much larger, however this because ProRes is much less compressed than AVCHD video is. You do need to keep in mind though that ProRes HQ is visually lossless. If you chose to use another free converter program you'll most likely get stuck chosing a lossy format. Another nice thing though, is that it works on MAC too. Your shooter needs to know not to do this again though, because as you already know at this point. It can cause big issues...

  • No audio when importing AVCHD into FCP X?  Simple solution.

After hours of trial and error and several phone calls to support, I figured out why my AVCHD footage (MTS files from a Canon vixia HF S100)  had no audio when importing into FCPX.  The solution was to simply uncheck the box - "Remove silent channels" - under Audio in the pop-up import window .  That did the trick.
I had tried  importing from a card reader, the camera and from an external hard drive and then tried 2 converter programs (MPEG streamclick and   Wondershare Video Conerter Ultimate.)
    Final Cut Pro X
    OS X 10.8.2

It's usually something simple that can catch the best of us.

  • No audio when importing footage under capture

When I'm importing footage from my camcorder into FCE there is audio in the caputure window & no levels on my audio meters. The camcorder I'm using is a ZR500 Mini DV using to import.
These are the steps I have done: File -> Easy Setup then Format: -> (all formats)
after that Use: DV-NTSC Firewire Basic.
Then I went to File Capture. Any advice? I'm getting no audio when importing on
    FCE 4?

    Welcome aboard idw3,
Then I went to File Capture. Any advice? I'm getting no audio when importing on
    FCE 4?
That's normal for FCE. All versions have been the same. If you need to hear the audio use the cameras headphone socket if it has one.
All audio can be adjusted in the Timeline during editing as required.

  • When importing an MXF file from a CF card, I can only get :30 of the original clip. What am I doing wrong?

When importing MXF video file from a CF card to Final Cut 6, I can only import :30 of it. Why am I limited to :30 and how do I get the entire clip?

That's the WRONG WAY!  You have to use Log and Transfer, like Michael says.  Here's A tutorial on how to deal with Tapeless in FCP
    <a href=http://library.creativecow.net/ross_shane/tapeless-workflow_fcp-7/1 target=_blank>Tapeless Workflow for FCP 7 Tutorial</a>
BUT NOTE!  If this is MXF from a CANON camera...their new 305 camera...you not only need a plugin to get it to work (they either include it with the camera, or you have to go to the website... the Canon Log and Transfer plugin), it also might only work with FCP 7.  Because the camera is brand spankin new.  Try the plugin first...well, if this is from that Canon camera.

  • I am getting an error ORA-39143 when importing a dump file

I get ORA-39143: dump file "c:\oraload\expdat.dmp" may be an original export dump file
when importing a dump file created by 9.2 exp into 10.2 database using impdp
I need to use the impdp utility with the table_exists_action option which doesn't appear to exist in imp
What is the proper mix of versions/flags/options to export from a 9.2 database and import into an existing 10.2 database while replacing existing data?
    thanks

well its on the link i provided
"When tables are manually created before data is imported, the CREATE TABLE statement in the export dump file will fail because the table already exists. To avoid this failure and continue loading data into the table, set the import parameter IGNORE=y. Otherwise, no data will be loaded into the table because of the table creation error."
original import tries to append (insert)
there is no parameter here like table_exists_action=truncate/replace
    1. drop all the tables (dynamic sql), so there will be no errors because of already existent tables
    or
    2. truncate all the tables (dynamic sql) + use IGNORE=Y
    (or
    3. drop the whole schema in target database, recreate it, then do the import)

  • Is the prores file that FCPx creates when importing c300 .mxf files stable/quality enough to then copy to other drives for further use? Are there any quality disadvantages to doing that?

Im wondering if I can directly copy the prores files fcpx creates when importing c300 .mxf files from the "original media" folder, reimport them for another project to and use them that way. Is there any problem with working that way? I'm doing this bc I want to have an organize finder structure for a client but cant break the c300 card structure to split clips on a card into different "scenes" to make it easier for them to understand what they're looking at. This is all to stay NLE nuetral--we like fcpx but they might want to edit somewhere else and more details in the finder level seems like the best solution? Suggestions on any of that? Thanks.

Thanks for your response. Are you sure that FCPx is working with .mxf/c300 natively? I thought it was just a background sort of repackaging or transcode into prores that it does without you having a choice? And bc of that, for me, it's sort of a "back end" feeling file: I'm curious if it's bad to get into the package contents folder to copy it over? Not about copying prores in general-- specifically, is the prores created of c300 footage in fcpx more of a fcpx, high quality alias file? Maybe I'm just feeling a little uncomfortable grabbing things from the inside/finder level of fcpx.

  • Can't import MPEG-2 files in FCE HD

I can't import MPEG-2 files into Final Cut Express HD. Before I bought the software, I took an MPEG-2 file to the Apple store and they imported it just fine. This is why I decided to buy the software. I know it can work, I just don't know why it won't work on my Mac. Anyone have any ideas?

Well, I figured if I talked to myself long enough, I might figure it out. I did. I had to buy the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback component in order to import these files into Final Cut Express HD. I have the video in FCE HD rendering. If there was another way, I'm waiting to hear.

  • How do I get audio back on single clip that loses audio when imported into Premiere Pro CC?

I've got one clip out of many that for some reason won't play any audio when imported into Premiere Pro.  I am new to Premiere Pro so am hoping it's something stupid I've done, but this is a problem with just a single clip exported the same way as all my others, the original audio is loud (not quiet) and none of the FAQ issues seem to apply (ie I haven't muted the audio or anything stupid like that)
The clip was exported from Plural Eyes into a "master" Premiere Pro project where the audio is fine. I exported it as a short MP4 clip and if I play the clip in Windows Media Player the audio is there loud and clear.
But when I import the clip into a fresh Preimiere Pro CC project this clip appears with just the "film strip" icon on the far left in the Timeline panel, unlike other clips which have an icon that shows "film strip" in the background and "audio wave" in the foreground.
I'm hitting so many glitches with the CC editions of Premiere Pro and After Effects which have annoying inconsistencies between them I'm tempted to just go back to Sony Vegas Pro (single program, no hassle) but hoping most of these issues are down to "newbie incompetence". Very hard to understand why this one clip out of many should be giving me this specific problem though. Any ideas?

I'm getting so many weird results. Most go away by simply closing the project and re-opening and I only have 6GB memory but even so, I'm disappointed by what I thought was supposed to be more "world class" video editing software than Sony Vegas Pro which I found to be a lot more stable. Also struggling with differences between Premiere and After Effects. Every time I want to do something in Pro I seem to need to go to After Effects and vice-versa. After Effects lets me do more of what I could "just do" in Vegas Pro timeline, but it's hideous for lining up audio and having to render anything in RAM to even get a clue as to what a change has done.  Need to add Audition to the long list as well I suspect. Fun times!

  • When importing MPEG files into Premiere Pro CS3 the audio sequence is missing.

We have two computers running Premiere Pro CS3.  Our computer most recently installed with PPCS3 will only import an audio sequence with the MPEG video file when I extract the file directly from the DVD.  When I take the video folder from the DVD and drag to my Desktop, importing to PP from the desktop, it will only import the video sequence; audio does not appear.  What would cause this happen and how can I fix this?  It's too time consuming to continuously use my DVD Extractor.

1st, that old program has a different forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere/premierepro_previous
2nd, To work with AC3 sound files in Premiere CS3, copy the ad2ac3dec.dll file from the Encore CS3 directory into the Premiere directory
