No Audio When Set to Built-in Line Output

I have my FCP audio setting (found under Audio/Video settings) set the same as my system settings, "Built-in Line Output" for Audio Playback. I get no sound, to my external speakers, when playing a clip with this setting. If I switch to "Built-in Output" it plays fine through my tower's built-in speaker. I've reset and rebooted and nada, what am I over looking?
Edit in: BTW, all other wares play fine through my external speakers.
Thanks

I think you answered your own question. All audio should be AC3.

  • Can't select "Built-in Line Output" in Audio/MIDI prefs

I have audio on my MacPro going out "Built-in Line Output" via the mini-jack at the back to a receiver. Everything works fine.
When I open GarageBand's preferences to set up Audio Output it has defaulted to "Built-in Output" (the little speaker and jack in the front) and is grayed out, I can't select "Built-in Line Output" to send GarageBand's audio out the mini-jack at the back.
Anyone know what's going on here?

HangTime, Thanks for the replies and link.
The problem has solved itself, which is good, but I have no idea why or how, which is mildly off putting.
I went into system prefs and set the Sound output to "Built-in Output," thinking maybe that would "free up" Built-in Line Output for GB, which doesn't make sense, but whatever, none of it made sense. That had no effect in GB, same situation. So, I switched the system prefs back to "Built-in Line Output" and left things for a bit.
Then the next time I went into GB everything was fine. The pull down menus were available and I could select "Built-in Line Output." Weird. [insert head scratch here]

  • AE appends my filename when setting up a render queue output filename via scripting

I wrote a script that imports quicktimes and creates comps from them and adds them to the render queue. I'm running into an issue where files with certain names get appended when adding them to the queue. I believe it has something to do with the "." in the name. For example a quicktime named "filename_v25.140504.mov" is used to create a comp named "filename_v25.140504_test_01". This comp is then add to the render queue using the script below.
    var myRQItem = proj.renderQueue.items.add(renderComp);
    var myFile = new File(renderLocation.toString() + "/" + renderComp.name);
    myRQItem.outputModules[1].file = myFile;
The filename it becomes "filename_v25.mov". It appears to be stripping everything after the last ".". This becomes a problem when I have several comps with names like: "filename_v25.140504_test_01", "filename_v25.140504_test_02", "filename_v25.140504_test_03" etc... since they all get added as "filename_v25.mov".
Has anyone ran into this issue? Any solutions? Thanks!
BTW I'm using CC on a mac running 10.9

I haven't run into that particular issue, but what code are you using to create the comp based on the QuickTime file?  Can you replace the "." with a "_" when the comp is created?  If you can get ahold of the file name as a string, you could split it on the "." character then join the returned array with the "_" character.

  • Default digital line outputs

Does anyone know how to set the digital port line outputs (when used as outputs, not inputs) on a 6013 board to a default state.  My problem is that I am using this board to enable a drive but if the program aborts for whatever reason the lines appear to remain in the last state that the program had them in (usually the drive is running) resulting in the drive being enabled and running uncontrolled.  I need to have the lines in a known state (drive disabled) whenever the program is not running.

  • Line Output From Audio Interface Mutes When Connected To HDMI

    Hello Apple Community,
As my first post to the community, I would like to shed some light on an issue I have found no answer to on the internet or support lines. I have spent a great deal of time self-diagnosing and over the phone with technical support for all devices in question.
    Problem:
I have no sound when connected to HDMI. The problem is not exclusive to HDMI, as I bought two Mini DisplayPort adapters (HDMI & VGA) -- neither of which resolved my issue.
    Hardware:
MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) - Intel i7, 8GB RAM, GT 650M Graphics
    Audio Interface - Started out with a PreSonus AudioBox 2-In, 2-Out. Now it's a Yamaha Steinberg UR22 (2-In, 2-Out)
Powered Studio Monitors - Yamaha HS7 (Pair)
    External Display - Vizio 37", 1080p TV
At first glance, it may sound like my problem is simply that I'm not set to the correct audio output when I'm connected to HDMI. However, this is not the case. With both audio interfaces, I double-checked that the output did not swap to HDMI when plugging in. Many communities believe this is a ground-loop issue with anything from my interface / speakers, to the HDMI cable itself. When I spoke to an audio specialist from Yamaha, he assured me that grounding issues were not the case. He said that ground-loops will only cause noise (hiss, static, hum, etc.), not a complete mute.
    Thank you,
    Matthew Morris

Okay, so Steinberg responded after 6 days to set up a call time. Three days after that, I finally received the call. Yes, 9 total days.........
Jeff from Steinberg went over all of my issues and went through a whole diagnosis. At the point where I got rid of the stock Yamaha XLR to TRS and used some unbalanced instrument cables I had laying around, the monitors worked! Jeff and I narrowed it down to either bad cables or (more than likely) bad XLR ports. I believe the ladder because the possibility of receiving 2 bad cables is less likely than possibly a single XLR port having a faulty ground or something--which would lead to the above issues.

What you say about Send Later timestamp is correct.
When you click Send or Send Later a time is set regardless of when you actually sent the Send Later email.

  • Built-in Line In on MB for Logic?

My question is does the built-in line input on the macbook work in logic. I ask this because in logic express when I go through the Setup Assistant steps and have the built-in line in audio port selected, it says that the selected driver is not available and will use the built-in in's and outs. However when I go to the I/O tab there is no input...I know in garage band it works fine, but I was just wondering if anyone might know why this is?
    Macbook Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi
You should not have to enable it. Remote Management (VNC) is enabled by default on all OSX Server Installations. If you know the IP address of the server on your 10.5/10.6 workstation you should see it in the sidebar. Clicking on its icon should give you access to either connecting to it or Sharing its Screen. Select the Share Screen option and provide the server's admin name and password. Hopefully you should be looking at the Server's desktop.
If for some reason the facility was disabled then you should be able to re-activate it using ssh and kickstart:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2370
If for some reason this too was disabled you're going to have stick a monitor on it and manually configure the facility. System Preferences > Sharing > Apple Remote Desktop/Remote Management.
You may have serious problems administering a 10.4 Server using Server Admin Tools for 10.6:

  • No built in line option

Hello, i have a macbook pro 13" and would like to use the audio in/out to record using the port for line in. However after much research i have found out that i do not have the line-in option, heres is a screen shot:
    /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png
Could someone please advise me how i would get this option?
    Many thanks,
    Aj

I had this happen once after upgrading OSX to a new rev.
It was some sort of corrupt file. I fixed it by opening Audio/Midi Set-Up in the applications/utility folder and simply clicking Built In Input and closing it.
The built in line option magically appeared in the Sound preference pane.
    Hope it works for you.

  • No rear channel playback when set to 5.1 in speaker settings?

=No rear channel playback when set to 5. in speaker settings?I have a 4. speaker setup. It's the kind designed for computers that runs the line out into the subwoofer and splits the audio into each channel from there, unlike the standard home theater setups that run from a receiver. It's connected from the computer with two analog lines (left/right & rear left/rear right).
The output modes available on the speaker system are stereo, stereox2, Prologic, quad, and Dolby Digital.
I want to be able to set the speakers to Dolby Digital and and have my soundcard (X-Fi Titanium Fatalty) set to 5. Surround on the Speaker Setup screen. I believe this would support the most playback options. The problem is that when I test the audio channels I get no feedback from the rear channels. It works perfectly fine if I set the speakers to quad but won't playback the rear channels when set to Dolby Digital for some reason. I've tried disabling CMSS 3D with no luck either - Dolby[/b] or DTS soundtracks, you will need to turn CMSS off. Otherwise you might not receive each discrete channel."
The closest I've been able to get to the optimal setting of 5. with the speakers set to Dolby Digital is to put the speakers on quad and switch to 5. in the speaker setup (and disable the center and sub channels so center gets mixed into l/r and sub gets mixed a little into each channel keeping each 5. channel broadcast even though it's a 4. setup).
Any ideas as to why I can't get any rear channel playback with 5. and my speakers Dolby Digital?

I'm having the same problem with my audigy 2. I reloaded my computer and installed and updated the drivers, and when I go to the pull down box in Speaker Settings nothings there. Can anyone help?

You can connect the audio from your iMac to your TV using a mini jack (like headphones plug) to rca (regular red and white audio connectors used on every TV,DVD, etc) cable.
On your TV, you need to be able to set the audio for the HDMI input you will use to "analog" and connect the rca end of the cable to the analog inputs on your TV.

  • Has anyone experienced the loss of audio when using Apple TV when it has been working fine?

I can't get any audio through my reciever when using Apple TV. It's been working fine until a week ago. I've check my reciever, unplug the TV, and Apple TV as described but nothing. I switch to my Direct TV input and I can get audio when not using ATV. I've tried most everything I've read on blogs but nothing. One of those "pull your hair out" issues. Any direction would be appreciated. Thanks, Vince

    Hi there Vfall!
I have some information for you that can help you troubleshoot this issue:
If you can see video but can't hear sound
If Apple TV is connected to a receiver, make sure the receiver is turned on.
Make sure the input setting you've selected on your receiver matches the input you have your audio cables connected to. See the documentation that came with your receiver for more information.
Make sure the volume on your TV or receiver is turned up and isn't muted.
Check whether you can hear sound while playing video only. Also, check whether you can hear audio feedback while clicking through menu options.
If you're connected to the HDMI port on your TV and Apple TV, make sure your TV supports audio through its HDMI port. The HDMI ports on some older TVs support only video.
If you are using HDMI audio, try disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable.
If you're connected to the HDMI port on your TV and Apple TV, make sure your TV is setup to receive audio from HDMI. For some TV's this is automatic, but for others there is a choice between digital and analog (for HDMI audio, choose digital). Read more about HDMI audio.
Try the other audio outputs on Apple TV to see if they work.
If possible, try using different audio cables.

I recently upgraded from an iPhone 4s to an iPhone 5.  I have a Motorola HX550 Bluetooth Headset which worked flawlessly with the iPhone 4s.  However, since upgrading to the iPhone 5, I frequently lose audio when in the middle of a call.  I am not certain whether it is a full disconnect or just an audio loss.  The person on the other end reports still being able to hear me, however, I suppose they could hear me speaking over another source even if bluetooth disconnected. The loss of audio is always preceded by a quick shrill noise, so I can easily tell when it happens.  All I have to do to fix the problem is to select Audio Source on the call screen, temporarily switch audio back to the iPhone, and then switch back to the headset, and then it starts working again.
Is is important to note that I am not the only one experiencing this issue:
This is a link to someone using the Motorola H19txt headset experiencing the same issue
    https://forums.motorola.com/posts/94ac15ad7c
If you go to the Plantronics website and look at the "Ratings and Reviews" on the Voyager Legend you will see the same issue reported:
http://www.plantronics.com/us/product/voyager-legend (next paragraph is taken from the review since there is no direct link to the review.
Really nice Headset unless you own an Iphone 5. I own several Plantronics headsets and have always loved the quality/ performance. This headset seems not to be compatible with the new Iphone 5. In the middle of a conversation it will lose all incoming audio. This leaves you trying to switch audio sources really fast in order not to lose your phone call. Ive tried 3 legend headsets and they all do the same thing. Hopefully this gets fixed soon because the headset is really nice
Since this issue appears to affect multiple headsets from multiple vendors, I think it is fair to conclude that it is an issue with the iPhone5 bluetooth itself.
I am posting this as a new discussion as I don't see any other posts specific to this iPhone 5 Bluetooth issue.  I would have reported this as a problem to Apple, but don't seem to be able to find a way to do this on the web.  Hopefully they are already aware, but if not, maybe they will see i here.

here is an interesting thing: take the iphone and set lock screen to never. Now make an email with siri--be sure to activate her with call button. get to the body and get some text in there. then just stop talking. LOCK SCREEN APPEARS!!!!!! and of course you draft is gone.
There does seem to be a work around for some--maybe all these issues. Don't use the call button--use the buttons on the phone.
Siri seems to behave properly with scenerio above---sans call button. She does not go to lock.
