No audio with avchd clips

Hi,
My video camera produces .mts files - avchd.
Wanting a good editor I downloaded a Trial version of Premiere Pro CC  , BUT no matter
what I tried - including many suggestions from on line users- could not get audio with any
of my clips.  Prelude was able to "ingest" the clips with audio BUT whenever I exported them to PP
they were unrecognizable by PP.
Cannot seem to get any definite answer from any authority in Adobe. Is this problem insoluble?
I would like to buy into PP CC but not if it cannot handle the files my Panasonic camcorder produces
whats the point? Also transcoding .mts files into another format ( which works with PP ! ) reduces the
quality and is not acceptable.
Anybody know the answer?

Audio is at times the bane of the video editing side of things. There's been holy Hades raised here at times over the way PrPro does ... or really, doesn't ... handle "extended" audio channels as they would seem to be logically best handled. And the comments that some other programs handle X part of this easier. At which point there's oft a comment that yea, that be the case but that other program handles Y part of the audio process like a truly crashed turkey.
It seems to me the point is that perhaps none of the editing apps are where they should be for treating the audio part as seriously as the video. There've been comments and blogs from Adobe that this is why they have Audition, to handle all the audio stuff. But to many of us the way that Audition & PrPro work is not as "transparent" as we need it to be. Audition normally overwrites original files unless you purposely save-as. PrPro never over-writes original footage files. A few people have been caught by trying something in Audition ... without save-as-ing, and unfortunately without proper back-up, and ruined their audio. With no way back. Unfortunate, but in the differences in the two program's methodology, this is bound to happen at some time to almost anyone. "You should have known what you were doing before you did it" ... yea, true ... but in a hurry under deadlines, well ... baaaad things happen. Especially when one gets used to a HUGE "feature" of the Adobe video apps: non-destructive editing. Oh, sorry, Audition is a wee bit different. People need to know that!
And ... yea, setting up PrPro for 5.1 or 7.1 is entirely possible ... IF you know exactly what to set in preferences (which is not explained clearly for those who aren't already knowledgeable) AND how to move things about on your tracks in a sequence. So some of the experienced people feel it's not THAT hard a deal ... deal with it and move on. For noobs to the scheme of this, it can be completely un-penetrable.
Hope you get this nailed ... and there are some wonderful people around here that know those settings and when they do pop in can give so much help ...

I have an old project with AVCHD clips and I want to import the clips again with surround sound. How can I relink the project clips to the re-imported ones without doing the project from the begining?
I have a sony handicam and I imported the clips to iMovie and they lost quality and converted the audio to stereo. I want to import the project to final cut X and import the AVCHD in 1080p and surround sound and export the movie in bluray. Can I relink the clips without editing everything again?
    thanks!

Only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad - either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view.
Photos that were synced from a computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from and then re-syncing. If you want to remove them all then normally you could just sync an empty folder (in terms of photos) to the iPad, but as you don't want to sync at the moment you can't do that.
You can reset the iPad back to factory settings and start from scratch with it : Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings

  • I get "Modified File" message with AVCHD clips after making Multicam clip?

First off, this is only happening to some of the AVCHD clips, and typically not the same ones each time. I've tried trashing the files and re-importing because some clips imported as camera files. There is no DCIM folder in the footage folder. I've re-linked, restared, thrown out ALL the footage, the events, the projects and stared from scratch. The fresh import seemed a-ok this morning until I made the multicam clip.
I selected "create optimized media" and "create proxy media" when I imported. I'm currently transcoding today's offensive clip again, as fcpx seems to think that is possible. Perhaps that will fix it this time, but I've been stuck in a continual cycle of the clips working and then disappearing and being replaced by various red error mesages for the last few days so I'd like to figure out what is wrong with my workflow.
I tried archiving the AVCHD files before importing to the event, but fcpx can't see the files on the computer, so I have to use the version on my external drive. I'm also bringing in AVCHD files from an SD card, but so far today those ones have been fine. The multicam contains a sound file and footage from four cameras: a canon DSLR, a Panasonic GH2, and two Sonycams that create AVCHD files.

There's no automatic way to do this.  You'll have to Match Frame the clips into the Source Monitor, find the In/Out timecodes, then load the new clip with audio and go to those same timecodes to set In/Out points. and add just the audio to the sequence.

  • Disturbed Audio with long clips and speed changes.

    Hello,
    I experienced a strange problem in FinalCut Pro (v 6 and 7).
-I capture a clip with a Blackmagic Decklink or a DVS Pronto as Uncompressed Quicktime, 720p50 via HD-SDI with embedded audio. The clip is about 10 minutes long.
-I speed down the clip at 36% by changing the clip's speed in the sequence.
When I render the audio track, I get completely distorted audio after some minutes until the clip's end.
The problem doesn't seem to occur when I put the clip in a sequence and nest that sequence into a second one and change the nested sequence's speed.
Is that a known bug? Did anyone out there experience the same problem? Is there any technical explanation and solution?

Both Picture Safe and Title Safe are guidelines. They were developed to ensure that titles and pictures placed within these guides would be viewable on most televisions.
In the same way that no two tv's will look the same with regard to colour, there can also be a great difference in overall picture placement on the screen. Keeping titles within the safe area will help ensure that even the most poorly calibrated set will still show the entire title.
You can't convert the MP4s because you do not own the right to use them.
As for the MP3's, time to do some work and look it up. The Search function here is a great resource.

  • Edit attached audio with movie clip

I made a project by combining movie from one camera (with audio muted), plus audio only from a second camera as an attached audio track. The two cameras were recording the same scene, so the (better quality) attached audio can be put in sync with the video from the other camera.
How then can I delete a section of the video AND the corresponding section from the attached audio channel, so the remaining audio remains in sync?
"Split Clip" splits the movie but not the attached audio. Is there a way round this?

Sorry I never posted back about this. I got sidetracked with putting together a different vacation video and forgot all about it.
Anyway, what I posted before totally worked. I exported the movie as an mp4 at full quality (I'm not sure if there was any loss of quality, as the footage I started with was not very high resolution. There was no discernible loss of quality, though). Then I took that newly created mp4 and re-imported it into iMovie.
iMovie treated the audio that had previously been pinned as embedded audio, so now when I cut a clip, it cuts the audio with it.
Kind of a pain to do the extra step (especially since importing all of my raw, unedited footage and re-importing it took a while, but working with it now is soooo much easier.
Hope this helps anyone who may stumble onto this thread in the future.

  • No audio with AVCHD.mts in Element 7

I cannot get audio when importing AVCHD.MTS files into Elements 7. I am running on Windows 7.  From Forum it seems the best fix for this is upgrade to Elements 9.  Can someone gurantee this is the way to go?

PRE9 can natively work with AVCHD files, but there are still posts to this forum from users not getting their audio working. Your best bet is to download the trial version and see if it works with your files.

  • No audio in AVCHD clip?

Hello, my camera is a Panasonic HC-V720 and it records in AVCHD format. The audio plays in windows media player. It is 2 channel audio. But whenever i import the video into after effects and place the clip into a composition the audio component is missing and there is no waveform at all. I dont know what is wrong with my after effects. I have after effects CC and it worked fine up until last month. I cant get it to work please help!

Thanks for your tip, jukkatilli, it helped me solve this problem both in After Effects and Premiere Pro.
By the way, for some reason it seems to work just fine if you just rename the video file on the hard drive from *.mts to *.mpg (change the file extension). Just rename it, then relink the file in your project to the "new" renamed file. Just to clarify that it may not be necessary to change the format of the video file itself, just changing the filename should work just fine.
The same solution worked for some .mp4-files that were causing the same problem in my case as well, changing the file extension to .mpg solved the problem.

  • How can I use all tracks from multi-channel source audio with Multicam clips?

I cannot figure this out. Working in Premiere I'm prepping for a 2 camera show, with typically 4 to 6 track dual-system audio recorded by the sound guy. I can sync, and make multicam clips any number of ways–whether sync by timecode, sync by audio, or eyeballing–but whenever I edit using the MC clip, Premiere mixes down all the audio channels into a stereo single track, and I cannot pick and choose which audio track from the original to use. With 2-5 people mic'd on lavs, I need to be able to choose which audio is either cut in or heard at any given shot.
Is there any way to have control in multicam clips over which track of audio gets edited into the timeline, or even: that all tracks of audio get cut in? It's very important for the editors to be able to see waveform (which also disappears for some reason in the mixdown) and pick and choose which audio is heard?
I'm sure this might be a simple fix, but I cannot get my head around it for workflow purposes for my assistant editors. We need to use multicam, but this audio thing is driving all of us crazy. None of us can figure out how to have a multicam clip and use it with control over what audio is cut in.

True, but what I need to be able to do is have my multicam sequence in the source monitor, and cut into my working sequence with either just the audio I need from the sound guy's multi-channel WAV, OR cut in all the sound and from then I can just enable or disable what I need or don't need. But also be able to match back to the Multicam source from my working sequence.
I don't want to have to open the synced sequence, and razor blade the things I need and have to copy and paste into my working sequence in order to have the full spectrum of my multi-channel mono lav WAV files...with their waveforms visible.
Essentially, I want my Multicam clips to load in the source monitor, and the ability to cut them into the working sequence without it mixing down the audio into a single track with no visible waveform–which is what it is doing currently. Can I choose to edit in either ALL of the tracks of the WAV file along with the camera shot I want, or control which audio gets cut in?

  • Moving audio with video clip

i tried to paste audio at playhead, but when i add a new video clip to the movie, the audio does not move with it. does anyone know how to help me!!!! please

When you lock the audio clip to the playhead, it won't move from the video point it was placed at. You need to UNLOCK those audio clips to allow them to move now. Really, you should get your video work in place first and then move/place your audio clips where you need them. That's the simpler way to approach this.
Re-reading your post again, it seems you haven't locked the audio to the playhead because adding video ahead should move everything together. Did you highlight the audio clips you wanted locked before clicking on "Lock to Playhead"? Play with it some more, you'll get it, or do what I suggest about adding the audio after.

  • Syncing Audio with Merge Clips option and OMF export question/issue

    Hi,
In the past when I've edited video, when it came to syncing audio I always did it manually.  This time, using Premiere Pro CC, I used the merge clips option, to speed up the syncing audio process, which was a huge time saver with excellent results.
The question/issue I have..is that when I get my OMF exported for my sound editor, will this screw anything up, since on the project file, it doesn't use the original audio file, but the one that was merged.  And in the project list, I don't even need to have the original audio file listed, since it's already been merged into a clip, which I used in the project.  I know it's the same file used, but will it mess anything up since a merged clip audio was used instead of just dragging the original track onto the timeline?
    - Ken

A good way to know for sure (and therefore feel comfortable that you're doing the right thing) is to do a test OMF export, then open this in Audition. This ill show you exactly what you're exporting.

  • Missing Audio with Merged Clips

I'm experienced a very confusion and frustating kink in clip merging process. I suspect other people have encountered it before, but I can't find where. I'll post tech details at the end.
I merged clips by marking an in point on the audio and an in point on the video. I placed both clips in to my timeline. I deleted the stereo track that came with the video. I linked the 4 mono channels to the video, and dragged them over to a bin, where it asked me to name the merged clip, and I named it according to the scene.
I had no problems working with them
Upon returning to my work, however, some of the audio seems to be missing. That is, the top of the four mono tracks is there, but the other three, while there in the timeline, play no sound - they don't have any waveforms anymore (it is not any kind of mute track issue, the waveforms themselves are gone).
I have since tried merging clips directly in the media browser, using in points, and this seems to resolve the problem. While I am happy to see a solution for the future, I am on a very tight deadline and don't have the time to re-merge all of my hundreds of clips.
This is an awful bug that Adobe has got to fix.
    Thanks!

I created a new user account and trashed my preferences and I have the same problems. I created a new project, and new sequences. Same problems.
It only happens with 23.98 (batch reverse telecined using Cinema Tools) NTSC DV clips that have been merged with separate 24-bit 48 khz Quicktime audio clips (converted from BWF using BWF2XML). Clips that were captured from the tape with audio and video simultaneously don't have this problem. The discrepancies between the actual amounts trimmed and the white numbers in the trim windows are consistent. If it's off by 6:10 on a clip, every time I try to trim that clip it will be off by the same amount. But the number varies from clip to clip. It's generally 5-8 seconds.
If I try to trim only the audio, I don't have any trouble. If I trim the audio and video at the same time I don't have any trouble. It's only when I trim the video on its own. If I use the original video clip before it's merged with an audio track then it trims fine. If I cut the merged clip into a sequence then delete the audio track from the sequence the problem remains.

  • No audio with AVCHD with Premiere Pro CC

This seems to be a common problem but I have yet to find a solution.  Like others out there, I can import the video from my Sony camcorder just fine but there is no audio (neither stereo or 5.1).  I have tried importing and using the Media Browser.  I have tried copying just the .mts files and also the entire folder structure.  Nothing works.
Here's the kicker.  The files import just fine in CS6 but not in CC.  Not sure why one works but not the other.  Its because of bugs like this that I always keep the other version on my HDD for insurance purposes.
Any idea what I should do?
    BTW, this is on Windows7.

  • How to merge audio in a clip during video editing in iMovie?

    How and tnxs for reading.
    Here the question:
I have a video file which has a bad audio R track and a good audio L one. I would like to edit the video, standard operations like cut, merge, etc...
However I would like to take the audio R track out. Since I do not see any available feature for this I exported the audio track to another audio software and did the operation there. After that I imported the audio L track only in my iMovie (v 10) project, aligned to the clip, I deleted the original audio from the clip, and now I have a perfect project with the original clip with a good audio track.
However, since I would like to work now on the project itself, it'd be great to merge the audio (which is now separated) to the clip, in order to maintain the proper audio with the clip during my cut/paste/etc operations. Is there any special feature I can use for this?
If not, I know I can export the project to a new video file and then open a new iMovie project where I can import the new video file and start again from it, but I am wondering if there is an easier way since in my opinion I had to do already to much work for an easy op like this which would have been fixed easily with the old versions of iMovie.
    Tnxs.

    Thanks for your reply!
While your answer is helpful, it's not a desired solution for me because the comp track is one channel of a multi-channel recording (two different mics).  I don't want to drag a new take into the comp track because the comp track is grouped with other comp tracks for editing purposes, and I don't want to disturb the editing I've already done.
It seems like I "should" be able to select a region in the arrange window and "re-link" the file to any other file in the audio bin (thereby replacing the file with the other).  After years of working in graphic layout programs, such as Adobe InDesign, I'm expecting this sort of feature to exist already.  I'm pretty sure I've seen it before... but I've used Cubase, Digital Performer, Studio One and Pro Tools, and I'm not sure where I saw it.
Have I described what I'm looking for clearly?  I'm not sure it's coming across in what I've written.  Can Logic do this?

  • After relinking MTS/AVCHD Clips have no audio

    Hi,
I have a problem with avcdh-clips. They had been imported porperly, so that I allready have worked with them.
Today I opended the project, and all the MTS-Files were offline. I tried to relink them - and was warned, that they´ll come with no audio. Which they actually don´t have anymore. I tried to relink the same clips from the backup-disk. Same result. I tested the avchd-clips with prelude and QT-Player - they do have audio.
Also if I import them fresh in PrP, they are just fine with audio.
But with the relinking it just doesn´t work.
    Who can help?
PS: I trashed the plist as suggested by adobe support. Changed nothing.

I have the same issue but slightly different. Using Premiere CC. I Imported .mts removed the audio and linked .wav files to the video from an interview. I did this cause I mic'd the audio with a seperate computer as my video camera mic isn't so hot. It's worked fine over and over again. Once the files were edited and placed into the sequence all should be good after all they are just audio files.... WRONG!
I opened my file up after a 3 day break only to find that all of the linked audio from the interview was gone from my sequence. Now that wouldn't be that bad of a thing except the fact that it was like 8 hours worth of work... I checked the file browser and everything was still there. BUt on my main sequence all of the interview materal was simply gone as if it had been deleted off the timeline.... there were even two empty audio tracks left with nothing on them???
I'm sorry but I just have to say after the "premiere can't recognize a filter bug in CS6" and now this bug it makes me want to just switch to Final CUt... how many times am I going to have to start over because of a bug in premiere... I mean 3 months from now is adobe going to release another version of premiere that doesn't glitch and you have to pay per month again to use like CC... Sorry I can't have 8 hour bugs every other month on my video editing software..

  • Avchd using audio from other clips

    Hi
I just reloaded a project from a client to do some adjustments. all files are AVCHD put in 3 different folders. "Media/Footage/Card1/Private (Card2/Private)... you get it.
Suddenly my audio both in timeline and reference monitor switched source to other clips. I've tried to restart, I tried to use prelude to ingest using prores conversion. if I play it from quicktime everything works fine. this is only a problem with some clip not all. I didn't rename in the folder structure only in the project bins.
Does anybody know if this is a general problem for CC 2014. I never had this problem with CC version.
Let me know if anybody struggles with the same issues.
    regards
    Morten

    Hi Morten,
When you had initially put the project together, did you Import the AVCHD clips with "File > Import" or Media Browser? The latter is preferred and alleviates a lot of discomfort later on. Can't guarantee this is the solution, but doesn't hurt.
    Thanks
