No audio with MPEG-2 files !

Greetings !
I just installed the tryout version of encore DVD 2.0.
I have the same problem i had on Premiere Pro 7.0 where it can process the audio tracks of MPEG-2 files.
In Encore, i also can't ear a thing when using the monitor window to playback the asset MPEG-2 file in its own timeline.
In other words, can Adobe Encore DVD 2.0 can process MPEG-2 assets or is it just good for AVI format ?
Thanks !

Weird !
I tried again today and for some reason, part of the Audio is back !
I still get gaps though.
I was wondering... I see this transcoding settings and not sure what it fully implies ! (Even after reading the manual)
I captured VHS tapes using Hauppauge WinTV PVR Hardware encoder (MPEG-2 chip)... With great results !!!!
I just figured that i wont be able to use Premiere to edit those rushs but my main goal was simply to put the rush on a well organized DVD... Therefore using Encore DVD 2.0.
What would the recomanded settings be in terms of audio transcoding ? Dolby, MPEG-1, PCM ??
Should i set (Doesn't transcode) ???
Thanks !

  • No Audio with MPEG-2 plugin

just bought QT7pro and the Mpeg-2 plugin so that i could convert the DVD of music videos that i produced into compressed .mp4 files. for some reason, though, there is no music in my music videos, even though these files work excellently on other media players (winamp, nero) and on DVD. what does MUXED mean, and why is this getting in my way? please help

Muxed is a term used when the video and audio files are merged into one track.
MPEG-1 (the original format of the first DVD's and VCD's) started it. MPEG-2 (way back in the early nineties) continued the practice.
The MPEG-2 Playback Component is just that. Playback using QuickTime.
You'll need the help of some third party software (many are free) to de-mux the file into a QuickTime Pro format.
Since you work with high quality MPEG-2 files I suggest you look for a "insert your price here" quality product. All of them can export to QuickTime and you can use the .mp4 file format.

  • No Audio on MPEG-1 files since upgrade to 7.0.2

I recently upgraded to QT 7.0.2 as well as having to re-install DVD Studio Pro 3 (and did them in that order). I have QT Pro.
Since then I can't hear any audio from Muxed MPEG1 files (so, lot's of stuff online) although the EQ meter in Quicktime is still registering the sound. Additionally, the MPEG1 files playback really choppy and usually freeze (the image quality looks a bit rough too).
    All other formats are fine.
I do have some DivX components, but had removed them. FYI, this is the list of components installed (including the DivX ones):
    3ivx D4 4.5.1 for OSX
    AC3 Codec.component
    AppleIntermediateCodec.component
    DivX 5.component
    DVCPROHDCodec.component
    FCP Uncompressed 422.component
    FFusion.component
    LiveType.component
    Toast Video CD Support.qtx
    I have so far tried:
Using the 7.0.1 re-installer (no joy there)
    Re-updating again to 7.0.2
Removing the DivX components (no joy there)
Ensuring the Pro Apps update was installed (fixed another bug in DVDSP, but not the MPEG1 issue)
Ensuring the latest update of DVDSP 3 (don't have the need for 4).
Anyone got any ideas? It's a real pain.
(My next thing will be to roll back to QT 6) and work my way up again.

    For me the fix worked at the 64KHz - 2ch/24bit setting (iMac G5, 1.8GHz, 768MB RAM, QT7.0.3).
But, I must say, it's quite unacceptable on Apple's part not to make sure to notify those who update to 7.x.x in good faith and trust that there is this tiny change needed in some settings. I spent several hours downloading re-installers, trying to roll back to QT6.5.2, and then this wouldn't work, and I had to go back up, download third-party software to use with my muxed mpg's, and, while doing all this, suffer my first real (and frightening...) black-screen crash after more than a year of use.

  • Premiere cs5 problem preview with mpeg 2 file

    hi
    i've another question
i open a new premiere cs 5.0.3 project with a matrox sequence lower filed
i import a dv tape from matrox firewire, and edit the file and export an mpeg2 file, everithing seems work fine, but...
if i import this mpeg2 file in premiere and i put in a timeeline it's impossible to see it clearly in a jvc external monitor i try to change the field but nothing change, only solutions is to activate flicker removal but doing this i loose quality
i try another project with file from canon 550,
i open a matrox 720p hd sequence and put on timeline the file and everything seems work fine and the output external monitor is ok but if i export into mepg2 file and i try import this mpeg 2 file in a matrox dv sequence is afwul and i have to set on filcker removal but so i loose quality

sorry i beg your pardon but i don't think it's a funny answer
i use premiere for my job from the first version, i spend my money in a software that i like (production premium)
sometimes i need to use mpeg file for a project because i haven't different format like avi etc
i do this many times with cs, cs3, cs4 without problem and now with cs5 i can't do to this anymore?
Maybe it's like a russian rullet knowing if the last version is really better than older one
I hope you can say me a tecnical answer

  • What to do with MPEG-1 Files!?!?

I am trying to blend some photos and video together to make a movie (and ultimately a DVD).  I am totally flying by the seat of my pants here, but now I realize that the video files I was given are MPEG-1 and nothing on my machine appears to be compatible...  and guidence about what I can do to convert the files or get the programs I DO have to deal with the files in their current form?
    Thanks in advance.
    Jen

MPEG Streamclip (free) can convert your MPEG-1 files to DV Stream for use in any iMovie version.

  • Missing audio from MPEG-2 file!

I attempted to capture some video from a Panasonic DV camera (firewire) and even with "Record Now", it would abort after a few seconds. I then imported the video on my PC using Pinnacle Studio 10 as a MPEG file, which worked, and it plays back fine with Quicktime. When I copied it through my network to the Mac, it would play OK in Quicktime, but when I imported it in FC Pro Studio and tried to drop it into the timeline, it did not detect that there was audio present. Since I can hear it through Quicktime, I am at a loss as to what to try next. Any thoughts?

    Hi:
Just to check if it's something related with FCP or with a real mac compatibility. Just create a new project and try capturing. Read the help, it's pretty easy. If you can captyre with iMovie but cannot with FCP, that's a start for tracing the problem.

  • Import error with MPEG-2 files: Brorsoft Video Converter to Apple Prores.

    Hi,
The Brorsoft Video Converter software gives me an 'import error' message when I attempt to import files from a folder on my desktop. That folder contains many mpg files (MPEG-2 Video, AC3). Those files in the folder on my desktop came from a Sony video camera.
I need to convert those mpg files to Apple Prores 422 HQ so I can then edit them in Apple Final Cut Pro X.
But when I go to import those mpg files into the Brorsoft Video Converter software, it comes up with a message saying: 'import error', indicating that the Brorsoft Video Converter software does not understand the type of file.
I am on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8.
I've emailed Brorsoft support but I don't think English is their first language – they've emailed back to me asking for clarification of the problem. And I need the problem fixed as I have to edit this video for someone that has many waiting customers.
Could something have changed in the files when I copied them from the video camera to the desktop?
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers,
    Paul

    Hi Tom,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I was using a friend's video camera – I've just texted him for the exact model of Sony video camera. I didn't yet have the Brorsoft Video Converter software when I had to give the video camera back to my friend. So, I copied the files off the video camera to my desktop.
It records onto an internal hard drive. And yes you're right, I don't need to go HQ. I also tried plain Apple Pro Res. That didn't work either. It comes up with 'Import error' message, so it seems like it just doesn't understand the file type.
When I go 'Get Info' on one of the files off the camera, it tells me it is an 'MPEG-2 video, AC3' file.
I'll try and get MPEG Streamclip like you suggested and see if that works.
    Thanks again.
    Cheers,
    Paul

  • No audio with BMCC CinemaDNG files

Hi everybody. I'm importing my RAW footage into SpeedGrade in order to export it to an editable file (ProRes) and I have no audio. The Audio window is greyed out as well.
The media has audio as I can hear it on other apps.

Hey, I've had any number of these things ... including some where I was having trouble and posted here only to realize the solution to my problem was SO staring me in the face the entire time I felt dumb as a rock (to use my 28-year-old ex-navy son's phrase). And totally embarrassed that I'd posted it here. This problem of yours was "simple" yet ... how many experienced people using say AVCHD and it's multi-part files & folder structure still end up here nearly every day because they've done something in moving files & projects around that led to PrPro not being able to play their footage or sequence properly? It's SO easy to do. To get that wrong, that is.
But then one time after posting a really dumb question I got a private message by another regular member here (and editor of some advanced skills professionally) thanking me for being so open in posting here, no matter how "dumb" my question ended up seeming to me. As ... to his pov, nearly everyone starting out in this software no matter HOW experienced in other editing rigs will have "dumb" problems too. Let alone those not used to this complicated video world. So he felt that I'd done two things: one, I'd helped make others feel more interested in posting their beginner troubles and two, I'd learned in the process. So ... keep at it, he says.
And I have. I still have dumb as rocks questions now and then, but ... I'm a lot farther along that I would have been if I hadn't posted them and my decent questions, and I've come to appreciate those around here who help others out. Stick around some, post any questions, and of course feel free to chime in when you think you've an answer for someone else. Nifty place in all ...

  • How do you get audio with your .avi files?

I'm trying to do a project that has some .avi files but there isn't any audio. Is there a way to get it?

There's a free downloadable program called Streamclip (www.squared5.com/) that will let you convert the audio format to .aiff audio that can be played by iMovie. I had a clip that wouldn't play audio in iMovie, and Streamclip was able to convert it so it would play.

  • Losing audio importing a VOB file V8 sound when

I hope someone can help - loosing the audio when inporting
a VOB file.  Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Tony

    1) goes into a loop
    2) Conforming
    3) Indexing
    4) then starts over again.
I have converted to an AVI file - and okay.  Suspect a setup issue?
Not sure what is happening here.
Lets look at #2 and #3 for a moment: Conforming is a two part process, and is necessary to edit. All Audio streams are Conformed, which is a conversion from their specs. to 32-bit Floating Point so that one can edit. This will happen with all Audio files, and is quickest with certain Audio specs., like 48KHz 16-bit. Others, like 44.KHz 16-bit take just a moment longer, and some specs. will require even more time. At this time, the PEK files are also created. These are what one sees as the Waveform Display, when the Clip is on the Timeline. That is the little symbolic Audio Wave, that is displayed.
Indexing is a process that takes place when one has a file format/CODEC other than DV-AVI Type II, and is most common with MPEG source files. This process gets the files from a GOP (Group of Pictures) into a full I-Frame format, so that one can edit at the Frame level.
You say that you converted to AVI. What were the specs. of those converted AVI files? "AVI" is but a wrapper, not totally unlike the VOB container. They can contain all sorts of "stuff." For editing in an Adobe program, one wants DV-AVI Type II, which is a very specific AVI, and has certain characteristics. Those characteristics are exactly what PrE wants to edit. If you are getting Indexing, it would seem very likely that your AVI's are NOT DV-AVI Type II. This ARTICLE will give you some background on "AVI" as a wrapper.
If you are not sure of the specs. on the AVI's that you converted to, that article will give you the link to the great, free utility, G-Spot. Use it to tell you exactly what type of AVI you ended up with.
Good luck, and hope that this helps,
    Hunt

  • No audio in mpge-1 file

My friend's sony DCR-SR200 video camera records mpeg-1 files. After I installed the Quicktime MPEG2 download ($19.95), the video part of these files will play but not the audio. We spent a couple hours looking at every help page we could find. How can I get this machine to play the audio of mpeg-1 files?

If the OP's file indeed is MPEG2, it might have AC3 or PCM audio which QT Player doesn't support in MPEG2 files (it only supports MP2 a.k.a. M1A audio).
MPEG Streamclip uses Apple's MPEG2 Playback component at least as a part of its engine but it has some added features like:
    - It can play also PCM and MP2 audio.
    - It can display MPEG1 video inside a .VOB (QT Player displays a black screen only).
    - It can display larger than 4GB MPEGs (new QT versions should not have this limit anymore).

  • AME-o Audio recognized for .mts files

    Really drives me crazy.
I am sure there is audio with this .mts file. But AME cann't recognize it. No issues for video clips in other format.
My AME version 6.0.0.382 (64-bit). And the source file here. Pls help
    http://youtu.be/6RXcFHpNWUU

I am having a similar problem: trying to ingest Sony HXR-NX5E .mts- files, and cannot get the audio. Plays with VLC-player. Log file shows the error message:
Dolby Audio Decode Licensing Restriction for /Volumes/NO NAME/PRIVATE/AVCHD/BDMV/STREAM/00034.MTS
This installation does not have a license to decode Dolby Digital audio.
    Updated to latest versions yesterday.
Trying to avoid the problem by setting the audio to PCM in camera, but I would be pleased to see issue fixed.

  • MPEG-2 file with AC3 5.1 audio: no audio (neither in current video playback, nor after encode), but plays okay in QuickTime X

    Mavericks 10.9.3
Latest Mac Mini, 8GB RAM, two 256GB SSD
    Compressor 4.1.1
I have an MPEG-2 file with AC3 5.1 audio which plays in QuickTime X as expected.
I have a second MacBook Pro with Compressor 4.1.1, where the audio is fine - both as current video playback of the source, and post-encode using Apple Devices HD (best quality) setting.
However in the Mac Mini Compressor there is no audio (neither in current video playback of the source, nor after encode using Apple Devices HD (best quality) setting).
    Troubleshooting
    - main difference between machines is the Mac Mini has Elgato software (EyeTV and Game Capture HD)
    - I've checked the QuickTime components are same on both machines, except for EyeTV audio component on Mac Mini
    - there are no plug-in audio components
    - I've repaired permissions using Disk Utility
    - I moved Compressor to trash, deleted compressor plist files, and reinstalled
