No audio with mpeg4 codec

I am recording video game play from my computer with avi2 video codec and mpeg4 audio codec. The clips play back fine in both vlc player and windows media player, but when I try to play back in premiere pro cc, there is no audio track, at all, no wave forms are present.
When I play online, I use Skype to voice chat, also no wave forms in the raw video. I let the clips conform first but they still have no audio.

Screen capture is often full of problems... What are the codec details?
Codec & Format information, read both links in reply #1 http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1270588

  • Dubbing Audio with ASUS P6T WS Pro motherboard ADI AD2000B Audio CODEC

I am trying to dub audio commentary into my clips using the SoundMAX program settings provided with the ASUS ADI AD2000B Audio Codec.  I have confirmed a microphone signal appears in SoundMAX and that PPro Audio Hardware Settings/Enable Devices has a check mark against 'Microphone(SoundMAX Integrated'.  The other unchecked device shown is 'Line In (SoundMAX Intergrated Di'.  When I set up the Audio Mixer with a mono Audio 4 channel, click the Audio 4 microphone icon to turn it on, turn off all other audio channels, click the record button, then speak into the microphone, no signal appears.  Unfortunately, I have not been able to confirm that I am providing ASIO audio to PPro.  I need to know if I am wasting my time trying to dub audio with the present setup or I am missing something.  If no ASIO is possible using the present setup, what audio card do you recommend?

When you have your Mic input enabled in ASIO hardware setup, then in the audio mixer ou need to arm tracks with mic inputs then, then press the record button the input should be seen at this point. But to record you voice over onto time line you need to play the timeline. So that the targeted Audio Track will be recorded onto timeline. And after you stop playback you will se recorded audio.
    Good luck.

  • Flip4Mac playback of ASF (MPEG4 Codec) files - white image with sound

    Hi,
I've been emailing Flip4Mac support and they seem to be helping, but are taking a while to reply to my emails.
I installed flip4mac a year or so ago, in order to playback some video files I had from an old video camera. The files are asf in format, but from what i understand this acts as a shell around an MPEG4 codec.
I initially had trouble playing these files, as the image was either distorted or white, while the sound played perfectly. I was able to fix this by deleting a component that caused a glitch. However the problem seems to have happened again, and I can't seem to see any components that are worth deleting.
Could anyone advise 1. if they know which components should be deleted, and 2. where I might be able to find further components & plugins for quicktime 7 Pro. I currently can only find them in Mac HD:Library:Quicktime
    Many thanks,
    Matt

thanks, however I am fairly sure that it is MPEG4 encoded, with an asf extension. I already have VLC so I can view them, however I paid $20 for the Flip4Mac sofware & would like to be able to use the videos in iMovie, but without Flip4Mac working properly this is not possible.

  • Green line on movies bottom when converted with H264/MPEG4 codecs-HELP PL!

    Hi all,
Every time I convert movies from any Quicktime-readable format to .mov format (including .mov to .mov), the resulting movie has a (horrendous) *green line* on the bottom.
This happen only when I use Quicktime Pro. No other application give me this bad result.
As only one of many examples you can see in this screenshot a movie (right) made using iShowU with "Apple none" codec, which means that is totally uncompressed.
To reduce the size I have used QT with H264 codec. The result is (always) that green line (left).
No matter if I change the movie size or crop it. After all when I export it to save, the green line will be there again.
Could somebody please help me with this issue?

    *Thank you very much.*

    Thank you David.
    Did work!
I also read the post you suggested.
My original video was 426x175 and I changed it in the export properties to 426x 174 . One (1) pixel smaller, and voila!
Doing this and reading that post doesn't match with Apple's straight forward style.
Imagine if you have a stubborn movie because of its dimensions?
I felt like doing medieval engineering.
    Thanks a lot again, David.

  • [solved] can't find/build mplayer with vdpau codec support

I want to install an mplayer that will handle vdpau.
I installed the standard mplayer version but that didn't have it.
Following some advice in another thread I rebuilt the standard mplayer with yaourt.
When I do 'mplayer -vo help' it shows a vdpau driver on the list. But when I do 'mplayer -vc help' there are no vdpau codecs listed.
I tried the same thing with mplayer-svn but get the same results.
I even tried compiling mplayer manually but get the same results.
    What am I doing wrong?
    TIA, gabu
(I have just moved to Archlinux64 after 3 years with Gentoo, so my Gentoo experience might be getting in the way)

I manually compiled using the svn source that I currently use on my Gentoo system and get the same odd results, whereas on Gentoo it compiles as you expect. This would seem to indicate that there is something about the Arch environment which is causing the problem rather than purely the source code.
I tried installing mplayer-vdpau-nogui but have the same problem there.

  • Payload type of wav files encoded with gms codec

    Hello everybody,
I have an application which receives and plays alaw formated wav files using JMF(with the help of some additional libraries) . I want to use lower bandwidth for my application. A quick google search indicated that i can do this by using gsm format.
    I have 2 questions:
1-) what are the differences between .gsm files and .wav files which are encoded with gsm codecs? Which one's quality is better? which one's compression ratio is better?
2-) which payload type should i use for wav files which are encoded with gsm codecs?
In [Rtp Payload list|http://www.iana.org/assignments/rtp-parameters] page, there is a gsm entry whose payload is 3. I suppose that is for files with gsm extension. I tried it but it didn't work with my wav sample (as u can guess it was encoded with gsm 6.10 codec)
Any suggestion is appreciated. If you have a comment about the main problem (which is using lower bandwidth for sending audio data) i would also like to hear it
    Thanks in advance
btw i also tried this [gsm sample|http://www.nch.com.au/acm/sample.gsm] with payload 3.At first it worked but then strangely it played just static. In Sun's page it says gsm format is supported. I played both ulaw and alaw succesfully so i wonder what i am doing wrong. Do we need to tell the player that it is going to receive data in gsm format? I didnt do such a thing for u-law and a-law formats...

1-) what are the differences between .gsm files and .wav files which are encoded with gsm codecs? Which one's quality is better? which one's compression ratio is better?I would imagine they are the same...
2-) which payload type should i use for wav files which are encoded with gsm codecs?I would imagine 3...
If you have a comment about the main problem (which is using lower bandwidth for sending audio data) i would also like to hear itMy suggestion would be not to worry about so much stuff. JMF does all of this for you automaticlly.
On the sender side, make your processor take in whatever kind of supported file you want. Set the processor to output your GSM mono, and then you can just use a Player to play it on the other side. It's really not very different than the examples...
When you're programming the tracks, and you're calling "setFormat" on them, just set their format to be gsm.
[http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/media/jmf/2.1.1/solutions/AVReceive.html] should be able to play this out of the box...

  • [CS4] importing video with xdv8 codec...

Okay, I am on a windows version of premiere pro CS4. I am not very experienced with the software, so this could be amazingly obvious/simple, or it may truly be as hard as I am finding it to be. I need to import a video file, currently a .mov. I believe but am not certain that it was made on an Apple with Final Cut Pro. Premiere gives me a missing codec error.
When I try to play the file in most of my video players, including QuickTime, I get a missing or unsupported codec error (the sound generally plays fine, though - just the video is missing). One of my players actually named the codec, I believe... saying there was an error with xdv8 codec. So I did some googling, and found that mplayer has that codec.
So I download and install the latest mplayer for windows (SMPlayer to be precise), and it plays the video fine. However I still cannot import this video into Premiere. And the SMPlayer doesn't offer an export, save as, etc. function.
I found all of the codec .dll files that the SMPlayer uses, but have no idea how (if it is possible) to get Premiere to recognize them... and I am not sure which it is, as none of them have xdv8 in the title.
Is there a way to import a codec into premiere if it is not part of a codec installer package?
Does anyone know where I can get a codec installer package for Premiere that includes the xdv8 codec?
Is there any other way to work around this issue?
    Thanks!!!

One of my players (VLC Player, from Video Lan) gave an error stating that the xdv8 codec was missing or not supported. A ton of googling later found that the MPlayer does support the codec - and when I installed said MPlayer (the SMPLayer GUI for windows), I can play the video.
My issue is that the video comes from an indirect source; my client (I am a web designer, this client has a lot of streaming video on the site) has the videos created by a "professional" local studio... who is (in my opinion) anything but pro. I have no direct contact with them, and when I ask for anything to be done, such as getting the video in a different format, it can take weeks or longer before I get a response. So since I have Premiere, I started doing my own editing of the videos to get them web ready. The videos are being shot for TV (they get broadcast on the Fox Business Network)... so I have no idea if this codec is best (or even good) for that medium, but I need to convert it into 3 various sized flv files for web streaming.
UPDATE: I now see that the codec is ffmpeg2, and the 'format' is xdv8. I have no idea what that means!
    When I get properties through the SMPlayer, I see the following info;

  • Satellite A80: How to restore audio and video codecs?

How can I restore the audio and video codecs which are installed by default on my Satellite A80 with XP Home edition?
I removed them in safe mode because of a problem with the Pinnacle Codec installed by Pinnacle Studio 10.
Now I need to set the standard audio en video codecs back.
I already downloaded the codec package from Microsoft Mediaplayer and have sound en video again in Media Player.
Unfortunately I still don't have sound in Toshiba Diagnose Program when testing Midi and Wave sound.
System restore came up with the message that restore was not possible because no changes had been made.
    Message was edited by: roel

Have investigated in the forum and found this different codecs:
    -Zsunami Filter Pack: (3.9.9)
    - Nimo Codec Pack: (5.0 Final)
    - ACE Mega CoDeC Pack: (5.93)
    - Codec Pack Elisoft: (13.505)
    - K-Lite Codec Pack: (2.2) Full
    - SLD Codec Pack: (1.5 Pro)
    - All in One: (5.0.6.1)
    - The Codecs: (1.1 full)
Well, if the system restore does't work try to install one or several codecs from this list.
Have found it in this posting:

  • CS4 : help with MPEG4 16/9

    Hi everyone,
I'm new at using Premiere Pro and i'm hang quite a problem.
For a College project, the teacher asked us to do a video in MPEG4 16/9, I don't know how to end up with this kind of file.
What do I need to chose when I start the new project ?
When I export the file, what do I need to select ?
Could someone help me? I'm pretty lost right now.

    >What do I need to chose when I start the new project
You create a project to match your SOURCE video... what IS your source video... ie, what brand/model camera?
Read Bill Hunt on a file type as WRAPPER http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037
    What is a CODEC... a Primer http://forums.adobe.com/thread/546811
What CODEC is INSIDE that file? http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037
Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... a screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

If you have a red line over the timeline after importing a video and before adding any effects... your project is wrong for your video... read above about codecs
Once you know exactly what it is you are editing, report back with that information... and your project setting, and if there is a red line above the video in the timeline, which indicates a mismatch between video and project

  • Syncing External Audio with Video on iMovie

If syncing external audio with video on imovie, once successfully syncing the 2 is it possible to permanantly merge them so that I can continue trimming and rearranging clips without having to continue to re-sync the audio and video after every change I make?

In Final Cut Pro X, yes. In iMovie...no.
The workaround in iMovie is to sync your external audio to the video clip. Mute the audio on the video clip so all that is left is the good audio. Then use SHARE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. Choose Movie to QuickTime Movie and under Options choose Apple Intermediate Codec as the Video Codec.
Then save this clip in a place you can find it. Finally, import this new clip back into your event.

  • Where to find MPEG-1 Audio Layer II Codec?

I have a Samsung Digimax V700 digital camera which can create movies saved as .AVI and when the file is played through QuickTime I can see pictures but I can't hear and audio. QuickTime's Movie Properties report the video track as Generic MPEG-4 and the audio as '.mp2' (including quotes).
Subsequent research has stopped me confusing the .mp2 with the MPEG-2 video format, I found that it's MPEG-1 Audio Layer II audio, but I cannot find a suitable codec for it.
I do have other solutions: use another player such as VLC, which plays the video just fine (except that I'd like to be able to play videos through Front Row), or convert the movie's soundtrack to mp3 or similar (except I'd like to keep the video's modification date and time the same, so they appear in the correct place when sorting by date.
When I first load up the movie, QuickTime reports that some required components are missing and offers me a web page of suppliers who don't make the MPEG-1 Audio Layer II codec (as far as I can see). So, does anybody know where I can get a suitable audio codec?

Anyway, I did at least RTFM before I posted here and installed the codec (and I searched the forum before posting, too!).On my system (old PPC G5), the "3ivX D4 4.5.1 for OSX" (which I see you have) and the "XVIDDelegate" (which I don't see) caused a conflict between AVI oriented media and which component would assume playback control. Since you have at least 5 or 6 components that have, at least some, AVI playback capability, would suggest you run a conflict test at this point.
I thought DivX was a video codec only?It is basically a proprietary update of AVI put out by DivX. Their proprietary compression format(s) now have the .divx extension, but the software still handles media contained in the older AVI container.

  • Windows AVI hd files with 4 channels of audio with quicktime PRO ?????

I wish to convert Windows AVI hd files with 4 channels of adio to Quicktime mov, retaining the four tracks of audio, will quicktime pro do this

It depends on what the audio and video codecs used in the video. AVI is just a container format and make use any number of codecs, some of which QuickTime for Windows can support but many it cannot. If you can post information on the codecs, someone here can probably give more direct advice.
    Regards.

  • How big a drive for 3 hours of video encoded with animation codec?

Sorry if this seems a strange question - but I've run out of fingers and toes to count on.
I'm planning a video project that will have approx three hours of selected video to work with. Will be cut down to approx 90 minutes.
The video will be include a lot of chroma keying and also be graphic heavy. Many alpha channels.
I have determined the best work method is to upload the video using the Apple Animation codec. I am reliably informed that said Animation codec is a hungry bugger and eats up drive space.
Can anyone with more toes and fingers than me give me a ballpark for how big an external drive I should budget for this?
So to recap that's a a minimum of three hours of video encoded using the Apple Animation codec plus all the graphics, audio and rendering.
    Many thanks.
    A.S

The Animation codec isn't an editing codec. You'll have a DICKENS of a time trying to work with that.  Besides needing VERY fast drives...I'm talking a 4-5 drive RAID with 300+MB/s throughput (Firewire won't cut it...eSATA would be pushing it..thunderbolt? Pushing it)...it'd still stutter on playback. No one edits with that codec. I mean no one. It's a good way to transport media LOSSLESSLY, but when editing...best to use an Editing Codec.  As Michael said, ProRes 4444 would be good...even ProRes HQ is good enough quality. I deliver shows to air in that codec.

  • Working with MPEG4

    Hello.
I am having touble working with an MPEG4-video sequence. I recieved some material to edit that had benn captured on eyeTV and converted to MPEG4 video. I import the files and they are really troublesome to work with. Plus, I have to render everything even though the timeline has the sae settings as the material.
On a second type of material, I recieved an MPEG2 "muxed" file, which I have to demux, of course to work with. I´ve tried to do it with MPEG streamer and ffMPEG, but the audio de-synchronizes. Still, this tpe of compression gives me trouble to work in FCP. Is there a way I can solve this in a relatively short time? Not having to recompress the files to DV?
    Thanks!
    power mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

There is a much easier way to work with MPEG4 that I have found with FCP5.
Create system settings with the exact specificaitons of that video: its frame size, pixel aspect ratio, frame size, etc etc. Create a new sequence with that preset. The video should appear pre-rendered.
I have managed to do this for the mp4s that my Xacti C6 records. I can't get the audio to pre-render, but it's much quicker to render audio and it shouldn't de-render when you made video changes.
For the MPEG2 I am not sure if this would work, but try MPEG Streamclip as well.
Worst case scenario: resync the audio in FCP, then export the entire thing as a self-contained Quicktime movie that FCP can of course read natively, then reimport it.

  • Final Cut Express won't capture audio with the video anymore, why?

I have used Final Cut Express 4 for over a year now with no problems, but recently I am unable to capture any audio with the video from my camera. I can do it through iMovie no problem. I can't figure out if I changed a setting by accident because everything looks normal to me. Could another program be interfering with this? Quicktime Pro? I have no idea how to fix this.

First of all, we need a bunch of information in order to help. Please provide the specs of the footage and the sequence you are using. Also, are you using DV, HDV, or AVCHD? Do you hear audio when the clip is played in the viewer, or is there no audio at all once the clip is captured/ingested?
