No audio with my avchd videos - PSE8
I'm using PSE 8 and within the Organizer, I can view my avchd videos (shot with a sony hd video camera), however I am not able to hear the audio. If I view the video in another browser (ie., sony's picture motion browser), the sound is heard from the videos. I'm running vista on a dell xps 420, and have updated my drivers. Have also searched this site, but I don't see other mentions of this same problem. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
It's a codec issue. You need to have dolby decoders on your machine to make it working. Premiere Elements provide this decoder to Photoshop Elements.
What happens when you run these files in some other player?

No audio with imported AVCHD Clips in PE 11
I have Premiere Elements v11.0 running on a Windows 8 machine. I have updated PE and no more updates are available.
The AVCHD video I am importing is full HD, PAL at 25 fps. The audio is 384kbps 6 channels with audio sample rate of 48kHz. I can import and edit these clips into Premiere Elements V7.0 running on a Windows 7 PC without any problems. The project settings used are HDV 720.
With Elements V11.0, the audio is not being imported which ever project settings I try. There are no error messages.
I have the latest version of Quick Time (7.7.4) installed, although QuickTime doesn’t understand the file. Windows Media Player plays it OK – video and audio. VLC media player also plays it OK.
Is this a missing codec, a bug or some other problem?
Suggestions please?Robsodav
In spite of the questions to follow, I did see that you wrote
With Elements V11.0, the audio is not being imported which ever project settings I try. There are no error messages.
And, no problems with audio in Premiere Elements 7 Windows 7 64 bit.
Just want to go over your details so as not to take anything for granted.
What are the properties of your source media? What is the file extension? You say AVCHD Full HD, PAL at 25 fps. and you add the project settings used are HDV 720. Why?
The project preset is supposed to match the properties of your source media. From what you wrote, my read on that is that you have
AVCHD video compression 1920 x 1080 16:9 @ 25 (probably interlaced) frames per second.
If so, the project preset should be PAL AVCHD Full HD 1080i25 5.1 channel.
If that is 1920 x 1080 16:9 @ 25 progressive frames per second
then the project preset should be PAL DSLR 1080p DLSR 1080p25.
So, what is the rationale behind setting the project preset for what you describe at HDV 720 which I am taking to be 1280 x 720 @ 25 progressive frames per second?
What is your audio compression.... Dolby Digital 5.1 channel or AAC 5.1 channel or other?
What brand model camera is this video with its audio coming from?
How are you getting the video audio from camera to Premiere Elements11 Timeline?
Is it only the footage from this particular camera that is at issue?
Let us start here and see where your reply leads us.
Thank you.

Problems with imported mono audio with stereo HD video FCE4
This is with Final Cut Express 4.
So here is what I am doing: I am recording video of my flight lessons inside my airplane with a mounted Panasonic HDC-TM90 HD camera. Since it is noisy inside the plane, I am using an Olympus VN-4100PC digital voice recorder to pick up the Air Traffic Control and Intercom within the airplane (between me and my instructor) which is 22 KHZ mono. I am doing this because I want the sound of the airplane and also the communication so everything works together and you get the best of both worlds (otherwise you would hear one or the other and that's pretty boring). Ok, enough with the intro.
Here is what I am having problems with -- when I get the video, stereo audio with the video and the mono audio all lined up in FCE in my timeline, it starts to get out of sync about 10 minutes or so into the film. And it gets worse as the film goes on. This is driving me nuts and I have NO idea out to fix it.
The only thing I can think of is that my Digital Voice Recorder is recording at a slightly faster speed than the camera's audio and this is why it gets out of whack.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? Or at least give me an explanation why it is happening?
Thanks for any help!!Thanks for the reply. I did this and it still doesn't seem to be matching up properly. Tell me if maybe I missed something.
1. I took the original .WAV file from my Digital Recorder and imported it into iTunes and then converted it into an .AIFF.
2. I took the .AIFF file and imported it into MPEG Streamclip and exported it as another .AIFF file that was Stereo and 48kHz.
Is there a step I missed? -
No Audio with or without video
I'm trying to set up ichat connecting an iMac G5 to a iBook 600 G3 running 10.4.3 on both. I have them both accessing the same ISP( 100mbps fiber optic) with airport at the same location. I have audio on the iMac G5 but not the iBook when initiating ichat from the iMac G5. When initiating ichat from the iBook there is no audio on both Macs. It's the same situation with just audio.
The iBook keeps asking for the keychain password for some reason(it's not my iBook) and when you start up iChat on the iBook AIM comes up and asks for a password but that doesn't happen on the iMac G5. The camera icon next to the buddies is a flat single icon on both Macs if that is an issue.
I'm wondering if there is some corruption on the iBook and maybe it needs to be reformatted(big hassle). Any other ideas other than that would be appreciated.
I have read some other threads and have tried these with both Macs.
1. I have reinstalled iChat 3.0 from the DVD and then upgraded with the 10.4.3 updater.
2. I have reinstalled AIM with the updater on both Macs.
3. I have repaired disk permissions on both Macs.Philip,
A couple of suggestions:
(I'm using iChatAV 2.1 but yours should have similar settings)
You might want to check to see if you have "Microphone Enabled" in your top menu bar menu for video/audio.
Also, check to see if in iChat Preferences that under General that you have "When iChat opens, automatically log in" ticked/checked.
Just something simple to make sure of that might help,

Sync audio with two different video files to create split screen
I want to sync two different video files to a high quality audio file and create a split screen from there in Final Cut Pro X. Help please?
I'm following along at home, Tom, trying to make sense out of your instructions. (Editorially: This kind of operation is among the reasons I thoroughly loathe FCPX.) This would have been easy in FCP7. Perhaps it's actually the same amount of work (you are describing operations in FCPX I have not bothered to try yet—too scared) but it's far more direct the old way: Find sync points for all three files, stack them up in a timeline, nudge till precisely matched, apply effects.
But I'm glad you're here to help us through this stuff! -
Syncing External Audio with SMPTE
My 8 track field recorder has a SMPTE sync source. I am going to connected it to the DP's RED camera sync input so my audio and his video have SMPTE sync between the two.
In the past I have used audio waveforms and manually sync'ed everything and although it works very well it is a tedious and time consuming process. It often took me half a day to sync up 8 tracks of audio with the edited video for one two minute scene in STP.
How then, do I match up the audio and video using the sync signal automatically or semi automatically? In FCP, when you merge clips, one of the sync options is to use Timecode ... but I'm wondering if you shouldn't instead be looking at a helper app called PluralEyes:

Final Cut Express won't capture audio with the video anymore, why?
I have used Final Cut Express 4 for over a year now with no problems, but recently I am unable to capture any audio with the video from my camera. I can do it through iMovie no problem. I can't figure out if I changed a setting by accident because everything looks normal to me. Could another program be interfering with this? Quicktime Pro? I have no idea how to fix this.
First of all, we need a bunch of information in order to help. Please provide the specs of the footage and the sequence you are using. Also, are you using DV, HDV, or AVCHD? Do you hear audio when the clip is played in the viewer, or is there no audio at all once the clip is captured/ingested?

PS CS6 has no sound with AVCHD videos from Sony Cybershot
System Specs:
PS CS6, fully updated
win7/64 fully patched
16gb ram, 11+ GB free
ssd scratch drive, 40gb free
camera: Sony cybershot dsc-hx30v
files: *.MTS
CPU: intel quad core sandy bridge 2600k, 3.4Ghz
GPU: AMD 6950 2gb
The videos play fine in VLC 2.0.1, windows media player, GSpot 2.70a (in thumbnail window). An ancient Nero showtime even sort of plays the video (choppy and partially mangled), but the audio is fine. VLC and WMP play smoothly at full screen, 2560x1600.
In PS, there is no audio. Both microphone icons have sound waves emanating and I have tried all 4 combinations of mute and play.
I can edit and save them to h.264, high quality, 1920x1080, 59.94 fps, progressive *.mp4 file. The video plays on the other players, but again there is no sound.
GSpot shows LAV splitter -> ffdshow addio decoder -> ac3filter -> default directSound device (see details below)
When playing in PS, the video is choppy. It will play for ~1/2 second and then stutter.
Searching for a suitable group with key words (photoshop cs6 avchd video no sound)
yields 505 groups. Looks like any group to have ever had cs6 in a thread. Hmmm.
It can't be a codec problem if every other video product I have plays the files. It is certainly not a hardware limitation. It looks like a PS bug.

It is perfectly legal to decode Dolby to simple stereo with the licensed codec included with Windows 7. There may be some restriction on writing AC-3 content in 5.1 format. If Adobe wanted to, it could read from the licensed, installed codec and write the edited files in any of the audio formats it does support.
I do not believe it is a can't; it's a won't.
"... only a few digital cameras on the market with that encoder."
There are dozens of digital cameras and camcorders from Canon, Hitachi, JVC, Leica, Panasonic and Sony which use AVCHD and many more are on the way.
Almost every medium and top-tier video editor also supports AVCHD/MTS format including Avid, Premier, Final Cut, AVS, Blender, VideoStudio, PowerDirector, Windoz Movie Maker, Nero, Pinnacle, Vegas and Openshot.
Adobe advertises on http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/features.html:
Intuitive video creation
Bring Photoshop editing power to your video footage. Easily enhance any clip using the full range of familiar Photoshop tools, and then create movies using an intuitive set of video tools.
Adobe needs to add a bit of fine print here:
Easily enhance any clip [1]
[1] Disclaimer: Adobe has made a strategic decision to withhold Photoshop support for Dolby sound common on many newer and higher fidelity cameras in order to not cannibalize sales of Premier Pro. If you have or plan to buy a video device from Canon, Hitachi, JVC, Leica, Panasonic or Sony, you may not be able to edit or even view movies with audio unless you also install Premier Pro ($799) or use a third party tool to perform audio brain surgery on your movie to rip your audio and hack it back into Photoshop in a non-Dolby form.
I feel that I was mislead by Adobe. And Adobe is still advertising this "Any Clip" claim even though the Dolby "defect" was reported in March in Beta testing. Please don't advertise what you don't support.
Disappointed,

No sound in AVCHD-Video with PS Elements 9
Hello,
since a few weeks, i am working with Photoshop Elements 9. It was announced, that PSE kann play also AVCHD-Videos. Now, i loaded from my Panasonic DMC-TZ 10 a short AVCHD-Video to the Organizer of Photoshop Elements 9 and played this video, but there was no sound. What ist the problem, doesn´t play PSE 9 the sound from a AVCHD-Video? Can someone help me?
Thanks.
Helmut ZieglerInteresting Steve. I had not heard of MJPEG Audio. Now, I think of the regular MJPEG CODEC's for Video, but wonder if either the Morgan, or the MainConcept will also allow for MJPEG Audio editing. If so, then this ARTICLE might be useful.

No Audio with Video in Photoshop Elements
Some videos such as MVI do have the audio when I add the video to Photoshop Elements slideshow project. There is no audio on 99.9% of the videos (AVCHD Videos .MTS files) obtained from my JVC camcorder and added to the same Photoshop Elements slideshow project. Why one video had sound after being added to Photoshop Elements, I do not know. However, when I open these same videos from my Windows explorer, they play with sound just fine.
OS: Windows 7
Dell laptop purchased June 2010
Internet Explorer 64-bit
Photoshop Elements 8.0.0.0
OS Version 6.0
Built-In Memory 3.7GB
Free Memory 2GBThere is limited support for video in PSE. The PSE/PRE combo gives the best input/output options including export to h.264, mobile devices, mp4 and burning DVD’s.

Hi,
My video camera produces .mts files - avchd.
Wanting a good editor I downloaded a Trial version of Premiere Pro CC , BUT no matter
what I tried - including many suggestions from on line users- could not get audio with any
of my clips. Prelude was able to "ingest" the clips with audio BUT whenever I exported them to PP
they were unrecognizable by PP.
Cannot seem to get any definite answer from any authority in Adobe. Is this problem insoluble?
I would like to buy into PP CC but not if it cannot handle the files my Panasonic camcorder produces
whats the point? Also transcoding .mts files into another format ( which works with PP ! ) reduces the
quality and is not acceptable.
Anybody know the answer?
( Win 7 (64) ; Intel i7 920 )Audio is at times the bane of the video editing side of things. There's been holy Hades raised here at times over the way PrPro does ... or really, doesn't ... handle "extended" audio channels as they would seem to be logically best handled. And the comments that some other programs handle X part of this easier. At which point there's oft a comment that yea, that be the case but that other program handles Y part of the audio process like a truly crashed turkey.
It seems to me the point is that perhaps none of the editing apps are where they should be for treating the audio part as seriously as the video. There've been comments and blogs from Adobe that this is why they have Audition, to handle all the audio stuff. But to many of us the way that Audition & PrPro work is not as "transparent" as we need it to be. Audition normally overwrites original files unless you purposely save-as. PrPro never over-writes original footage files. A few people have been caught by trying something in Audition ... without save-as-ing, and unfortunately without proper back-up, and ruined their audio. With no way back. Unfortunate, but in the differences in the two program's methodology, this is bound to happen at some time to almost anyone. "You should have known what you were doing before you did it" ... yea, true ... but in a hurry under deadlines, well ... baaaad things happen. Especially when one gets used to a HUGE "feature" of the Adobe video apps: non-destructive editing. Oh, sorry, Audition is a wee bit different. People need to know that!
And ... yea, setting up PrPro for 5.1 or 7.1 is entirely possible ... IF you know exactly what to set in preferences (which is not explained clearly for those who aren't already knowledgeable) AND how to move things about on your tracks in a sequence. So some of the experienced people feel it's not THAT hard a deal ... deal with it and move on. For noobs to the scheme of this, it can be completely un-penetrable.
Hope you get this nailed ... and there are some wonderful people around here that know those settings and when they do pop in can give so much help ...

How to Produce AC3 audio with video to play surround sound 5.1 on an AppleTV
I have produced a short video with a SONY video camera that records AVCHD in AC3 surround 5.1.
When I edit it in FCP I can see the six channels both beside the time code and to the right of the time line.
When I go to share the video to my iTunes library, it indicates that the output will be stereo or two channel.
I have also tried this in COMPRESSOR and selected the various Apple settings. These too only produce stereo out put.
Can anyone suggest what might be preventing the AC3 output?
Thanks
BarryI think that you are out of luck as the table shows on page 62 of your manual at http://www.docs.sony.com/release/BDPS350_US.pdf
Note 1 on this table says "When Audio Output Priority is set to stereo analog, LPCM 2ch signals are output from each jack. I would check this setting. I would also check out notes 2 and 4. According to their own table, the player should output bitstream in 5.1 D or DTS.
Out on http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1046952&page=3 it appears that another person is having the same issue and someone recommended this:
Double check the following settings:
Audio Output Priority: HDMI
Audio HDMI: Auto
BD Audio Setting: Direct
Audio ATT: Off
Dolby Digital: Dolby Digital
DTS: DTS
Audio DRC: Standard
Hope this helps....

Accessing center channel in Sony AVCHD video AC3 audio (5.1 surround)
I have tons of video shot on Sony HDR-CX7 and HDR-CX12 camcorders (AVCHD) in 5.1 stereo. iMovie '09 and Final Cut Express import the audio as two channel stereo, which is normally fine for a consumer app.
I use a Sony wireless microphone to record interviews, and I normally set the camera to record only the monophonic microphone audio. But, there is also a setting to let the camera record 5.1 stereo from it's built-in microphone, and use the wireless mic as the center channel audio.
I have footage recorded this way, and I find that when I play it back in stereo, I get a slight delay/echo caused by the wireless mic recording voices, and the camera recording voices (slightly offset). I cannot use the audio this way.
I want to extract the center channel audio from the AVCHD .mts files. I can then line that audio up with the video in Final Cut Express (or even overlay it in iMovie '09).
Does anyone know of a free utility that can strip out audio from AVCHD files?
It looked like Handbrake might work, but it errors out when it tries to convert more than two channel audio.
I believe the AVCHD audio is AC3 format, so if I can strip that out, Quicktime is able to mute the other surround channels.
Any tips? Here is my current status, and a work-around method to accomplish this.
First, using "ffmpeg" it is possible to extract just the .AC3 audio stream from a .MTS AVCHD camcorder file. I have tried to do this with the Mac OS X GUI version, ffmpegX, but it errors out. It looks like it is sending the wrong parameter to ffmpeg internally (or perhaps it is using a different ffmpeg command I have on my machine). Anyway, the command looks like this:
ffmpeg -i 00000.MTS -acodec copy audio.ac3
That will extract just the audio stream from within the MTS file (which is an AC3 file). By default, you cannot play .AC3 files in QuickTime. It turns out, I had "Perian" installed, which is an extension for QuickTime that allows it to play a bunch of other files. One of the settings was a Stereo mode, which was causing anything I tried to play mix down to stereo. Aha! So, I could toggle that off and actually get to the audio track I wanted.
BUT, since native Mac OS X does not read .ac3, my workaround is to again use ffmpeg to convert the .ac3 file to a .aac:
ffmpeg -i audio.ac3 -acodec ac3 -ab 512k audio.aac
Since the source AC3 file was 448kb/s, I just manually chose 512k as the conversion rate, so it shouldn't lose too much quality. That value can be changed to decrease file size.
The end result, "audio.aac", is now a 6 channel 5.1 audio file. You can open it in QuickTime, and go to Window->Show Movie Properties then select the "Sound Track" track, and the "Audio Settings" tab of that track, and you will see tracks 1-6 (Left, Center, Right, etc.). You can toggle the tracks off to get to the one you want (in my case, just Center).
From there you could export this out to a file with just the track you selected, or drag the .aac file in to Final Cut Express.
If you drag in to Final Cut Express, you will see it takes up five audio tracks. I drug this under the original imported video track, and was able to mute the ones I did not need. I also found I could unlock the audio from the video, and then delete the ones I didn't want, just to clean up the edit window a bit.
The end result is now I can import the AVCHD file in to Final Cut Express, and bring in this converted AAC under the video to access just the center audio I wanted.
When I have time to streamline this process a bit more, I will update this topic. -
Import AVCHD video footage into Premier Pro CS6 - MAC - AUDIO MISSING!
Hi,
Ive been attempting to import AVCHD video footage captured on a Panasonic into Premier Pro CS6 on my MacPro. I've tried this from the camera and after copying the entire folder to my desktop. The footage is there, but has no audio! I have read loads, forums, advice, YouTube vids and Adobe manuals, trouble shooting and help, but found no simple answer to this simple issue.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks too Jeff. Sandeep's post is a simple redirect to a post on Adobe which naturally I've already read before turning to the forum. The link then sends you to another link! Info. is too light on specifics, doesn't help! I have 6.0.5 as downloaded from Adobe... no joy! All remains the same, picture but still no audio! Maybe a compatibility issue with Panasonic's HC X900... but Panasonic's website is as light on info. as Adobe. I'm off to the shop to buy FCP or Avid.

Hi, I have problem with importing MOV files from SJCAM 4000. MOV files are in supported formats for Adobe Premiere Elements 11. But if I'm importing MOV file, only audio part is imported, video part is not imported. How can I solve this problem?
haben
From looking at the specifications of your camera (SJCam 4000), we know already what video compression your camera is using. It is H.264.
A H.264.mov file should be supported by Premiere Elements 11. On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer? And, are you running QuickTime and Premiere Elements 11 from a
User Account with administrative privileges? Please go to Premiere Elements 11 Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime to confirm that you find
presets there for the QuickTime choice there.
What are the properties of these H.264.mov files - is it 1080p30 (1920 x 1080p30) or something else? Do you know if this camera is recording with a variable or
a constant frame rate?
Please review and consider and then we will decide what next.
Thank you.
