No audio with OneStep iDVD

I burned several iMovies with OneStep iDVD. Although there is sound when I'm going thorugh the process of dumping the DV tape over to OneStep, there is no audio once I play the disc after.
I called the Apple Support Line many times; 1. emptied the library: caches, 2. we made a new user profile just in case it had something to do with that and still no luck.
When I try an alternative method of burning my iMovie via iMovie:Share >iDVD, I get the perpetual color spinning wheel.
I'm now deperate to get a copy of my iMovie on disc.
Help?
Steve

1. open /Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup
2. check the properties for Built In Output. It might be set to 96KHz.
3. Change it to 44.1KHz
If it is already set to 44.1 KHz, then change it to something else and back again.
Does that help?

• Setting PAL/NTSC format with OneStep in iDVD 5

I'm trying to create a DVD from some MiniDV tapes I've recorded, but I need to make sure it's recorded in PAL format as it's being sent overseas. I'm using the OneStep option in iDVD, but the only place I could find to set PAL/NTSC is in the preferences, which is only available when you're using a project. I created a dummy project and set it to PAL, then quit iDVD, restarted and went to the OneStep option to burn the DVD. The problem is I think it still recorded in the NTSC format because the DVD played fine on my home DVD player on my tv, which is NTSC. I checked the settings again on iDVD, and it still says PAL, but I'm not convinced it actually recorded with OneStep in PAL since it plays fine on my home system. Can anyone tell me the definitive answer to recording in PAL/NTSC using the OneStep option in iDVD? Thanks in advance.

I used OneStep once... Don't like it. So I'm not much help there, but...
I just returned from an Italian-based cruise ship and bought their DVD of the cruise. I became acquainted with the videographer since he was on a few excursions we took. When I bought the DVD, he was there and I asked about whether I needed NTSC for back home. He said: "It doesn't matter with DVDs." Apparently, he was right because I went back to my cabin and played it in my PowerBook without any trouble. Same here in the USA.
So maybe it doesn't matter, but I can't tell you that with 100% assurance.

• Can't get OneStep iDVD going

I am trying to quickly make DVD's from tapes on my Sony DCR-TRV520 NTSC camcorder. Time is short so OneStep iDVD sounded ideal altho basic. I can't get it going on my PowerBook G4 or my wife's iMac G5, both running 10.4.3 Most of the time the camera isn't seen but occasionally the program starts up then says something like "no video was transferred" and then aborts. This sounded so beautifully simple for someone not attempting sophisticated mulimedia presentations, but it ain't working for me. Any ideas would be appreciated. (I have tried both -RW and +RW type DVD's).

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure about the 16 bit audio part. I ended up creating the movie first, as you suggested, and it really came out well since that caused me to go ahead and add chapters etc. I was initially looking for a quick and dirty way to get the tape on DVD but it's much better with the fat edited out. It's still irritating that a new feature (Direct to DVD) that Apple makes such a big deal about doesn't work. Maybe it's because I'm using a 14 yr old Camcorder but it is on the list of supported ones. I did call Apple support but I don't think the guy know what I was talking about (it was on a Saturday). Thanks again.

• Audio burp after idvd burn, but fine on computer preview

Help. I created a dvd using idvd 6 for a wedding with 179 slides and 4 songs. First burn with 140 slides and 3 songs was fine. Second burn after 40 additional slides and 4th song has a burp in the 3rd song. Removed songs and re-added but has the exact same problem after burning again. It plays fine on the computer. Is there anything I can do to correct the encoding or burning process? Wedding is in 2 days. aarg. Thanks,

Hi
Where did Your audio originate ? (file type)
• Audio-CD (normal one)
• From iTunes (Copy out as an Audio-CD (.aiff)
• .mp3, .avi, .wmv etc ?
I only use .aiff audio in my projects except audio from miniDV tape Camera.
I would
• trash iDVD pref file
• secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on internal boot hard disk IMPORTANT
• first replace all strange audio with .aiff audio
• skip the iDVD project and make a fresh new one
• make a DiskImage and test this with Apple DVD-player
• still OK Burn either via iDVD or rather from the DiskImage with
Apple Disk Util tool (or easier Roxio Toast™)
on as alreaddy stated
• Verbatim DVD
• DVD-R (no +R or+/-RW)
• at an as slow burn-speed possibly (eg x1)

• Problem with Magic iDVD

Everything else on iDVD works except for Magic iDVD. Every time I try to use magic iDVD it stops responding. I already took it to the genius bar. He thought he fixed it, but when I went to use it today, it started doing the same thing again. What should I do? (FYI: I'm a computer dummy!)

I have experience the same slow startup in Magic iDVD and after many startups and force quits I just allowed it run for a couple of minutes until the iTunes library loaded and Magic iDVD started responding again.
In my case the issue seems to be that my iTunes songs all live on a shared networked drive that I access through WiFi. At a high level, is seems that Magic iDVD needs to cache the entire iTunes library in order to burn the dvd correctly later, it is this process of caching my entire iTunes library (60Gig) over the network that causes Magic iDVD to take up 3 minutes before the Audio files display. It is also during this initial load of audio files, each time that Magic iDVD starts, that it becomes completely non-responsive. Also if iTunes is running in the background, it too becomes unresponsive. I got into a habit of clicking the Photos tab just before exiting iDVD so that the next startup of Magic iDVD is normal, but of course, as soon as I click the Audio tab, Magic iDVD will take the 2 to 3 minutes to cache my entire iTunes library over the network before its accessible again.
It seems that Apple's application are just starting to mature to the fact that many users like myself do in fact keep their actual media files on a shared network drives to make the content accessible to the entire family and other Universal Plug and Play Devices as opposed to keeping all media local in proprietary library databases. While I really like Apples iLife suite I also like to have the option of accessing my media content with other applications and devices. While Apple certainly accommodates this approach in the preferences settings for many applications, the actual performance and behavior is sometimes less desirable. E.g. Magic iDVD startup as well as iPhoto ability to bring down the entire OS while in slideshow mode and network connectively is lost. In my specific configuration I use the Drobo and DroboShare connected directly to Apple's Airport Extreme base station.

• I want to sync my audio with my pictures

I want to sync my audio with my pictures in iDVD and can't get it to work. How can I do it manually?

All you can do in iDVD is select an audio track or playlist from iTune and set iDVD's slideshow Slide Duration to Fit to Audio:
If you have an older copy of iMovie, specifically iMovie 6 HD you can precisely set your music to yoru photos with fade outs and ins as you need:
It's, by far, the best version of iMovie for manipulating audio.

• Onestep iDVD won't start reliably

I am unable to get the Onestep iDVD feature to start up reliably. I have connected my digital camcorder via firewire cable to my Mac and when I launch the Onestep iDVD feature I can't get it to get started except with a lot of fidgeting with restarting the application then the camcorder, and re-inserting the blank DVD.
Is there only one correct sequence?
What is causing failure to complete? I have been able to get it started once out of ~10 trys, but it was very frustrating. Any ideas?
My Mac is a 933 Mhz G4, 1.5 GB Ram with superdrive, 20 GB free HD space, OS 10.3.9 with iDVD life 5.0.1
I verified that the camcorder is mounted on the firewire bus. By the way is it possible that it has to be connected to firwire port #1. It was connected to port #2, since port #1 normally has a hard drive but was disconnected. Should I be using the camcorder only on port #1?
Thanks,
Brian

I can't get it to get started
What happens?
20 GB free HD space
That's minimal... We recommend 20GB+.
FireWire ports shouldn't be an issue; especially if you have the other one empty.
How many hard drives in there? Names similar?
I can't believe I'm responding to a OneStep question... I dislike (hate) OneStep.

• Final Cut Express won't capture audio with the video anymore, why?

I have used Final Cut Express 4 for over a year now with no problems, but recently I am unable to capture any audio with the video from my camera. I can do it through iMovie no problem. I can't figure out if I changed a setting by accident because everything looks normal to me. Could another program be interfering with this? Quicktime Pro? I have no idea how to fix this.

First of all, we need a bunch of information in order to help. Please provide the specs of the footage and the sequence you are using. Also, are you using DV, HDV, or AVCHD? Do you hear audio when the clip is played in the viewer, or is there no audio at all once the clip is captured/ingested?

• No audio with video, website navigation impaired, I can no longer recommend Firefox

I maintain the video site shaleshockmedia.org. I can no longer recommend Firefox to viewers because of the severe problem I have been experiencing: No audio with video; navigation often does not work. Maybe this is purely a local problem. Please let me know if the site is fully functional or not when you go there. There is no problem with Chrome or Safari. My computer is a Macbook Pro 3,1 Intel Core 2 Duo. MacOs 10.6.8

Note that there are a lot of popular extensions that can cause issues with videos not working apart from issues with the Flash plugin.
In what way is the navigation not working properly?
Can you give some examples?
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

• Dubbing Audio with ASUS P6T WS Pro motherboard ADI AD2000B Audio CODEC

I am trying to dub audio commentary into my clips using the SoundMAX program settings provided with the ASUS ADI AD2000B Audio Codec. I have confirmed a microphone signal appears in SoundMAX and that PPro Audio Hardware Settings/Enable Devices has a check mark against 'Microphone(SoundMAX Integrated'. The other unchecked device shown is 'Line In (SoundMAX Intergrated Di'. When I set up the Audio Mixer with a mono Audio 4 channel, click the Audio 4 microphone icon to turn it on, turn off all other audio channels, click the record button, then speak into the microphone, no signal appears. Unfortunately, I have not been able to confirm that I am providing ASIO audio to PPro. I need to know if I am wasting my time trying to dub audio with the present setup or I am missing something. If no ASIO is possible using the present setup, what audio card do you recommend?

When you have your Mic input enabled in ASIO hardware setup, then in the audio mixer ou need to arm tracks with mic inputs then, then press the record button the input should be seen at this point. But to record you voice over onto time line you need to play the timeline. So that the targeted Audio Track will be recorded onto timeline. And after you stop playback you will se recorded audio.
Good luck.

Hi, no matter what I do, the audio won't play with the video when in itunes, regardless if it's a file I converted to m4v or if it's a video file I purchased and downloaded from the itunes music store like "alias" episodes OR if I'm just previewing streaming music videos from the itunes music store...no audio period. The purchased downloads that are synched to my ipod will play the audio with the video on the ipod and the mp3 songs play fine within itunes and the ipod, just the audio for the video doesn't seem to work at all. Any help here?

• How do you play YouTube audio with the screen off with iPod 5th gen?

I used to own a 2nd gen iPod touch, which ran on an ios 4.2.1 system, that allowed me to play YouTube with the screen off. Ever since I got iPod 5 which came with ios 7, let's say I am kinda still getting the hang of how everything works. I still would like to play YouTube while the screen is off, but seem to not know how. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? It's running on ios 8, so if you could help me with this, I would gladly appreciate it!

Hi there, you can download itube, it's in the app store, and that allows you to save youtube videos for offline play. Also, you can play youtube audio with the screen off, even without a third party app. Click on a video. When it's playing, press the lock button. Press it again, to wake the device up. You should see your video on the front of the display, with a play button. Click it, and it will start playing even if the device is off. Hope I helped, ~Samuel.
