No audio with Windows 7 on a iMac 27 (2009)

Hi everyone,
I have an issue with my iMac 27" (2009) and Windows 7 x64 with BootCamp: There is no audio output from the internal speakers of my iMac.
The following steps/installations/configurations has been done already, but did not work:
Installed Boot Camp 3.3
Latest Windows 7 Updates and ServicePacks
Tried to install latest Realtek drivers (some threads recommend this)
Tried to install latest Cirrus drivers (some threads recommend this also)
Tried to deactivate/uninstall Windows High Definition Audio-Device (and yes, some threads recommend this)
One more thing: when I connect an USB headset audio will be routed to the headset correctly.
Thus I assume that in general audio should work, but there is something wrong with the audio routing.
Any advice and help is very welcome.
Peter

Finally I did it. It was a combination of several issues regarding the Cirrus hardware and drivers deliverey by Apple with the BootCamp package for x64 architecture on the Snow Leopard DVD and the newer generic drivers provided by Windows.
Here in short what I've done:
- uninstall the (not only deactivete) the Cirrus device on Windows 7
- Reboot (and do not install the device, if don't do so, Windows 7 will install a generic driver provided with Windows)
- Install the Cirrus device by and select the latest drivers from Cirrus

  • Will Pagemaker 7 work with Windows 7 (on an iMac)?

I'm writing for my dad, 86, who has designed several books in Page Maker 7 on a PC running Windows XP. For his 5th book, he wants to switch to the iMac.
So he got an iMac with the Adobe Creative Suite 3 with InDesign. Unfortunately, despite classes and tutorials, he cannot master inDesign. It's just too difficult. Why does Adobe (and Microsoft Office and all the developers) feel the need to keep making the programs more difficult, but then flat out lie by saying they're actually easier?
So he's still using the pc with Page Maker and going back and forth from mac to pc for this photo or that font, and it's annoying and complicated.
How about this for a solution: What if I were to install Parallels and put Windows 7 on the iMac, and run Page Maker 7 there.
    Here are my questions:
Is the Page Maker 7 on his pc (which was installed several years ago) the same Page Maker 7 Adobe is offering here now?
Of course he can't FIND his original Page Maker 7 disks, so we have to purchase new ones.
Is he eligible for an upgrade price from Adobe, since he owns the earlier Page Maker and a full version of CS3?
Will the current Page Maker 7, available on the Adobe website, be compatible with Windows 7?
What other pitfalls am I likely to encounter by trying to do this?
Thanks for any assistance you can offer,
    Monica

Hello Monica. My replies in order:
    Yes.
    Of course.
Almost completely sure that he is, if he has his complete serial number.
In theory, most definitely no. In practice, there are reports of successful instalations, almost always with some (or many) shortcomings.
    Almost anything.

  • No audio with Windows 7

OK everyone, I really hope you can help with this because so far this problem has completely defeated me.
I Just got a new Macbook Pro 17" and installed Windows 7 with Boot Camp. I have upgraded to 3.1 and updated everything I could but there is no sound at all from the computer when in Windows (OS X is perfect) and the red audio jack light is still on.
I have read that this is not an uncommon problem but so far have been unable to fix it. In Device Manager, I can see that under 'Sound, video and game controllers' there are 5 entries. The first says 'High Definition Audio Device' and the other four say NVIDIA High Definition Audio (I did not do this manually, but these drivers appeared after I installed the latest NVIDIA drivers for the graphics card).
I read on some other forums that the latest Realtek drivers solve the issue, but I downloaded and installed them and no change took place in Device Manager, so maybe the install went wrong somewhere?
In addition, I had problems with Windows 7 recognising the Broadom network adapter, and to solve that I was able to tell the computer to populate a list of drivers that I could then 'force' the device to use, but when I try the same with the audio hardware, it seems to work differently and instead of populating a list of drivers, it immediately asks me whether I want to proceed with the installation.
I'm really struggling with this, and I have been searching for answers in vain so I'm hoping someone can answer this once and for all.

As a follow-up to this post, I was able to solve the problem as follows:
    Pre-conditions:
    - Windows 7 (64-bit) installed with Boot Camp 3.1 Update applied
    - Latest RealTek drivers downloaded and installed
    - Audio combo jack emitting optical S/PDIF signal (aka "Red Light")
    - No sound from laptop speakers
    - No sound from headphone jack
    - Device Manager showing 5 instances of "High Definition Audio Device"
    Solution:
    1. Open Device Manager and expand Sound, video and game controllers
    2. Right-mouse-click and select Unintall for all instances of "High Definition Audio Device" (not sure if this step is needed, but I did it anyway).
    3. Browse "Boot Camp" (Mac OS X Install DVD) \D:\Boot Camp\Drivers\Cirrus and double-click "CirrusAudioVista32" or "CirrusAudioVista64" (depending on whether you are using Windows 7 64-bit or 32-bit. I am using 64-bit Professional).
    4. Proceed with installer
    5. At this point, I checked Device Manager, and noting had changed in Sound, video and game controllers, so Right-Mouse-Click "Sound, video and game controllers" and select "Scan for hardware changes".
    6. A series of driver installations will ensue, but most importantly "Cirrus Logic CS4206A (AB 71)" will appear under "Sound, video and game controllers".
    7. Open the Sound Control Panel, and you should see "Speakers Cirrus Logig Default Communications Device" with a telephone icon next to it (Windows, you are so bloody obtuse....)
    8. Right-mouse-click this icon and select "Test" - you should now hear a series of tones confirming audio is working.
    9. I did not experience the same low levels described by OP, sound levels are loud and clear.
    Hope this helps!!

  • Print from printer connected to pc with windows 7 from a imac

I have a pc with windows 7 and a HP Deskjet f300 series printer connected to it.
I would like to print from my iMac. Help please.

There are a number of requirements with the Windows 7 and Mac OS X setup. If one of these requirements is not met, then the printing will not be successful.
    *Windows 7 Setup*
Windows 7 introduced a new sharing feature called HomeGroup that is supposed to replace the workgroup for home networking. However, the feature only works for Windows 7 connected to other Windows 7. Therefore, if the Windows 7 computer has been configured to use HomeGroup, the first thing you need to do is detach Windows 7 from the HomeGroup.
The next setting is the network profile for Windows 7 computer. Windows 7 provides four network profiles; Home, Work, Public and Domain. Based on the network location you choose, Windows assigns a network discovery state to the network and opens the appropriate Windows firewall ports for that state. Ideally the computer should be set to the Home or Work profile.
With the network profile selected, another setting within the profile that can hinder the discovery of the shared printer is the network discovery setting. With this setting turned off, the Windows 7 computer will not appear under the respective workgroup (or if the setting has been changed after the computer was seen by the Mac, then it can appear in the workgroup computer list but will not show any shared printer - this is most likely due to the LAN manager timing). This setting can be accessed via Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Advanced sharing settings.
Also, within the Advanced sharing settings for the Work or Home profile, another setting called Password protected sharing can stop the shared printer from appearing. With this setting turned on, the Win7 computer will still be seen when adding the Windows shared printer, but after selecting the Win7 computer, the shared printer is not displayed as no prompt is given to enter user account details. So this setting needs to be turned off. Then when the Win7 computer name is selected, a prompt will appear requesting user account information. The Guest account can be selected here to see the shared printer name.
    *Adding the Printer*
Now that you can see the printer share, the next step is to add a printer driver that will support the printing via a Windows computer. The instruction shown above by musicwind for adding a shared Windows printer is correct, however you need to be aware that some vendor drivers do not support this type of connection. In this case you need to use a CUPS based driver, such as those provided by the Gutenprint driver set included with Snow Leopard. You may need to reload your SL disc and run the Optional Installs package to get all the Gutenprint driver for your model.
One last note. If the Gutenprint driver for your model does not exist or does not work, then you will need to install the HPIJS for Mac OS X driver suite. Ensure you read all the documentation on this page as there are three packages that need to be installed.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Cannot use isight camera with Windows 7 x32 on Macbook mid-2009

    Very very weird,
it worked until bootcamp was upgraded mid next year.
I have been looking for a solution siunce then.
Wife is using the notebook and she is mad every time she is answering call from Skype or MSN Messenger she needs to reboot into Lion.
She uses Windows 7 x32 on bootcamp most of the time yet she cannot use the camera.
The camera shows grey and freezes wiuth busy mouse cursor.
booting intro Lion works so it is something with the drivers.
    Can anyone help?
I have looking for months already and I did not see solutions...
    Andrea

    Issue Fixed.
BootCamp 3.2 - 3.3 breaks the functionality with Windows 7 at the latest patch level.
    The fix has been:
    upgrading OSX to Lion
    Patch to latest release
    Go To Boot Camp Assistant
Download Windows Support Files to Jump Drive (second option I believe it is)
    Reboot into Windows 7
Run Setup - BootCamp 4.0 will install
    Reboot
Launch Skype or MSN Messenger - ISight will magically work again!

  • Using external Audio interfaces with Windows XP on an iMac

Does anybody know how to set the audio device used by this operating system running on an iMac to something other than Realtek HD? I have an Edirol Fa-101 audio interface that runs on my PC, and runs on my iMac perfectly.
I have installed the drivers onto Windows XP Pro runing on my iMac using Boot Camp, but I am unable to set the input and output audio devices in the "Sounds and Audio Devices" panel to anything other than realtek HD. Anyone got any ideas?

  • HT3986 Does equation editor in MS Word work with windows 7 on a imac

Just wondering if I buy an iMac and install Boot Camp whether or not all of the MS Office features will work?
For example, my wife needs to use equation editor in MS Word.  It's sort of an add in in Word so I need to make sure all of those random features work before I go down this road.
Should I go to the store and ask for a demo or is this question a slam dunk?
    Thanks in advance.

you are installing, running, Windows, natively, so it is the same.

  • HT5634 Installing Windows 7 on a Imac, late 2009 model

I have an IMac 24 inch, late 2009 computer.  Which version (32 bit or 64 bit) will I need to run Win 7?

The Late 2009 iMac was available in 21'5 or 27-inch, not 24-inch. If you have a 24-inch iMac, you need a 32-bit Windows version because it doesn't support 64-bit Windows versions.
If you have a 21'5 or 27-inch iMac, you can install a 64-bit version

  • How to install windows 7 on Imac late 2009 using Vmware/Vbox

Hey guys. Here's the thing. I've installed Windows 8 on my imac late 2009 but then i realized that there's no bootcamp drivers for it (check image).
everything works fine except for the video drivers that crash everytime when i install any driver (bootcamp or manually).
So I've searched on many forums n i found a guy that could do that by using Vmware/Virtualbox by accessing the full disk n installing it from there.
    Here's what we wrote -> (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1526883)
"Thanks for the suggestions, but installing from usb wasn't working, and refit didn't recognise the external dvd drive too (it was in the list, but when i tried to load it i got an error).
But i found a solution, not usual procedure but still good and easy to do.
I installed virtualbox, created a virtual machine with the full disk access (you'll have to unmount all the partitions first and run virtualbox as root), started installing windows, when the copy of the files ended and the vm was rebooting i simply closed it and rebooted my imac and finished the installation directly on the imac, everything went well...
    Thanks again for the help"
    Important notes :
    - My superdrive is broken
    - I can't boot efi windows 7 (cause it needs efi 2.0)
    So i might ask u 2 things..
1- Is there a way that i can install all those drivers on windows 8.
2- Can u describe how he did that with Vmware/Virtualbox?

I can't. Just like i said. My superdrive is broken so the only way is to boot from usb but my imac's efi firmware is 1.0 and to boot a windows 7 efi you must have at least efi firmware 2.0. I managed to install windows 8 cause it needed efi firmware 1.0 that's why.

  • Using Bonjour with Windows 7?

Recently purchased an HP G62-144DX Notebook with Windows 7 pre-installed. I've been trying to print using Bonjour through the airport express to my Canon printer. The airport works with the Mac OS on my iMac and Macbook pro. It usually works with an old Dell laptop that runs Vista Home Premium. However, it does not work on my HP with Windows 7 or my iMac with Windows 7. I have the latest Bonjour installation, which claims to work with Windows 7.
Oddly, when I print, I don't get an error message on my laptop. It's as though the computer sends the printed document off into space. I've tried disabling my Avast Anti-virus, thinking that maybe the print job was being firewalled. I've tried re-running Airport Utility. I've tried re-downloading Bonjour. Basically, I've tried everything that I can think of. Nothing ever prints.
Anyone have a clue how to resolve this?

I've read a lot of discussions on this problem and there was no answer I could find. However I knew that Bonjour uses IP address printing so I looked for where the address was configured. I have TimeCapsule but I think Airport works the same.
Go to Devices and Printers, right click on the Printer (HP, Samsung etc) and select Printer Properties and then select Ports and then highlight and "Configure" the port for the printer from the list. Mine Printer configuration said something like "TimeCapsule.local" for the IP address (strange IP address huh?) so then I set the IP address to 10.0.1.1 which is the address of my TimeCapsule. Eureka, it worked.
    Hope this helps.

  • Driver issue with Windows 8.1 on new iMac 2013

Just got a brand new iMac and am attempting to install Windows 8.1 on it. The Boot Camp Assistant kept timing out on the support software download so I downloaded Boot Camp 5.0.5033 from Apple support and put that on my external FAT drive.
I was able to get Windows installed, but when I attempted to run setup.exe off of my external drive, I got a "Boot Camp x64 is unsupported on this computer model" error. I was able to work around this by running bootcamp.msi from a DOS prompt in administrator mode at which point the install seemed to go through successfully.
Despite that, I'm still getting no love on WiFI, bluetooth, audio, etc. I'm attempting to download again through Boot Camp Assistant on the hope that there's a later version for my machine that's not yet available for direct download but am not optimistic.
Any thoughts/ideas would be great appreciated. Note that I am running the latest everything on the Mac side (recent 10.8.5 Combo).
    Thanks in advance.

Actually, that link is exactly what got me in trouble. Use Boot Camp Assistant to get the drivers.
As of this writing, Boot Camp 5.0.5033 will not adequately set up your drivers on a new iMac with Windows 8.1.
The only way I was able to get the WiFi working was to use the drivers automatically downloaded by Boot Camp Assistant. Presmably this is a newer version than 5.0.5033 but I haven't been able to find it anywhere else for download.
I should also note that I was having some DirectX issues running graphics intensive software even after updating through Boot Camp Assistant. These were resolved by downloading the latest driver for my video card (GeForce 780M). There might be other issues that will require a manual driver update but I've yet to run into any more.
    Best of luck.

  • Need HELP with Windows on my iMac.  Thanks.

I'm an experienced Windows user. I bought the iMac 20" Duo Core 2 (2.16ghz) because of the hardware and the design. I want to use Windows XP Pro (then Vista) almost exclusively.
PROBLEM: Windows installed and worked PERFECTLY (without the Mac OS or Boot Camp. I also installed the Mac drivers for Windows. Everything went beautifully UNTIL I started installing the Windows drivers for my external firewire sound equipment. Then the computer wouldn't fully boot. Every manufacturer I spoke with concerning my external equipment said that they did NOT plan to update their drivers to use Windows on a Mac. They said that there are problems and issues with the new Duo Core 2 processor in a Mac running Windows. These are DRIVER issues that may never be addressed by individual equipment manufacturers.
QUESTION: Do I need to reinstall the Mac OS and keep it updated in order to avoid conflicts with Windows' use of the Mac hardware? Or can I simply install Windows only, and try for workarounds?
Thank you very much for your replies.

Thank you, Eric, for your VERY helpful reply.
I've reinstalled Windows XP Pro S2, and got the system up and running again.
The problem I initially had was with the M-Audio Firewire Solo external soundcard. Once the driver was installed, the computer locked during booting. The M-Audio tech I spoke with was exceptionally knowledgeable, and he said they were working on updated drivers for both the Mac and the PC, but not for Windows on a Mac.
The problem could be that the firewire port uses the same IRQ as the hard drive. Although there isn't technically a conflict, the firewire port could be interfering with the boot when it's connected to a phantom-powered unit. And this unit cannot be hot-wired. However, the computer locked simply upon installing the driver with no unit connected.
I've decided to change over to a external soundcard that uses USB instead. I'm hoping this will solve the problem.
I purchased this computer for digital audio recording in Windows. If there are more conflicts that I cannot workaround, I'm going to have to return it and get a PC-based Intel desktop system. I don't want to do that however. I really, REALLY like this machine. But I need it to work with my equipment.
BTW, I've searched the other forums here on Apple.com. Several people have written in about the problems they've had with both the firewire and USB ports - using the MAC OS. So it's not just a conflict with Windows.
I really appreciate your reply. Thanks again.
