No Audio with Yamaha Receiver

I have a problem getting voice audio on some HD channels with HDMI connection through the Yamaha Receiver.  I have a QIP6200 motorola HD box, Panasonic TC-P42s1 1080, and Yamaha receiver RX-V465. I have tried replacing HDMI cables but I still have problems with some of the HD channels. The problem is not on all HD channels just some . I have seen threads on this problem with other receivers and was wondering if anyone has a suggestion to resolve.

Output is optical in the sound config in system prefs and I've looked at the midi config too and can see that 24-bit PCM is an option there too. All damned strange as this was working before, so I'm starting to thInk crazy things like there being something unusual about Sony's amps.

My apple TV is connected to a DTV with an HDMI cable and to my Yamaha receiver via optic cable. We rented a movie on Apple TV and.found that the movie played, but we only got audio for music tracks. Voice tracks were silent using both TV and receiver.  This only occurred on the rented video and on recorded shows on my cable DVR. previews and other content on Apple TV are fine. Any ideas??

Previews and trailers do not contain 5.1 audio.
If you have recently moved your setup, you may have inadvertently changed some of the settings on your receiver. It certainly sounds as though it is unable to play the 5.1 audio from the Apple TV.

  • Noises on external USB audio interface (Yamaha MW12) with Snow Leopard

    Hi there,
I got an issue with strong noises (kind of distortion) while playing all kind of music/sounds ( itunes/Reason/Cubase) via an external USB audio device (Yamaha MW12 mixer).
    Some important facts:
+ This had not been from the very first beginning of changing to snow leopard
+ but never appeared on "leopard"
+ Yamaha mixer is still working fine with my MS-windows computer
+ latest Asio driver by Yamaha is not helping.
+ internal audio of my Mac Book Pro is working fine.
As this issue just appears 2 days before, without any change or installation on my system, I really wonder, what could be happen. As Yamaha mixer is still working fine with other computer, I expect some driver in MacOS to be the problem (as internal audio HW is working fine).
Does anybody else, know, what to do? (before I change back to MacOS 10.5)
Has anybody else have seen a similar issue?
    Thanks for helping in advance.
    Merry christmas,
    Mat

    Hi,
    just one addon.
+ Changed USB ports on MacBook and it was fine on the second used.
+ Nevertheless, noise remains on the originaly used port
+ all other connected devices as mouse and midi interface are fully functional on both ports
It still looks like a driver issue. Nevertheless, could it be a hardware issue with the USB port in my MacBook then? Even if all other tried devices are functional?
    cheers, Mat

  • Video Format reverts to 480p with Yamaha RX-V3900 receiver

I have a QIP-7216-1 plugged into a Yamaha RX-V3900. The TV is a Panasonic TC-P58V10. Every time the STB is turned off an on (or more particularly if the TV is turned off and on) the Video Format setting reverts to 480p from the 1080i I set it to. I gather this is an HDMI handshaking issue. The problem doesn' t occur when I plug the STB directly into the TV, but for obvious reasons I don't want to have to do that. I've tried a ton of settings on the Yamaha to no avail. I really wish the STB would just _keep the setting I give it_ and not try to second-guess me. I've tried the "secret setup menu" button combos (power-select-menu, etc.) but none of these seem to work for me.
I'm apparently not the only one with this issue: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2Z9PKWH7U20ON
Anyone have ideas for a fix?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

well it's a problem with the yamaha receiver not passing through the handshake to your TV set.
the motorola box initiates a handshake to the first device that it's connected to, and the yamaha is reporting back 480i vs 1080i.
there is a feature of the yamaha (i forget where, you may want to reach out to yamaha support) that passes through that handshake to the TV so that it comes up with the right resolution.
or you can change the order of how you turn things on, meaning that you turn on the TV and the cable box first and then after they form a handshake then turn on the yamaha.

  • I just bought apple tv and would like to set it up for my family for christmas.  i have a samsung tv and yamaha receiver.  where do i plug in  hdmi?  i assume into receiver but not sure.  also, plug is on back of receiver so much get behind all equipment

i just bought apple tv and would like to set it up so it works right away.  i have samsung tv and yamaha receiver.  do i plug hdmi into receiver?  i assume plugs are in back of machined so i have to get behind all electronic equipment?  does that make sense?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your receiver is connected to your TV by HDMI and has a spare HDMI input port, then yes plug the HDMI cable from the Apple TV into your receiver.
If that's not possible the HDMI lead from the Apple TV can go straight to the TV and you can connect the receiver to the Apple TV with an optical audio cable.

  • Audio connections to receiver?

Can I keep the AppleTV hdmi connection directly to the TV while using red/white audio cables to connect to my receiver for surround sound? It's an older receiver--not sure it has hdmi connectivity. Would this type of connection cause any problems?

I have been using a similar setup with my Atv, but I notice that the sound echoes when playing through both the television and the receiver... like the are not in sync. So I usually just mute the tv when I have the receiver on.
Exactly what you should be doing if playing back audio via a receiver.
Anyone else notice this or know how to remedy the issue with an older receiver that has composite only?
Does your receiver offer any output delay options if it has any menus?
Modern TVs to a lot of video processing which can lead to a lag of 10's of msec between the input signal and the picture/audio output by the TV.
If the processing causes a long enough lag the receiver can be outputting audio ahead of the TV - we all have different tolerance to such lip sync issues but the longer the image processing lag the more likelt you are to notice the audio/video are out of sync between receiver and TV. Short delays may not be noticeable at all.
Many receivers allow a delay to be applied to counter this either to all or individual surround channels.
My older Yamaha unit doesn't have an overall delay function but I rarely notice issues.

  • Apple tv connected to yamaha receiver via hdmi, but only plays in stereo

I have connected my new apple tv 2 to my yamaha receiver, but it is only playing hd content in stereo.  I am using the same hdmi cable that I had previously used on a PS3, so I know that it is capable of receiving 5.1 content.  I have tried streaming hd content from Netflix as well as hd videos from apple tv, but both are still just playing audio in stereo format.  I have played with all the settings on the apple tv, but nothing is working.  Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure that the content is 5.1 as I have tried various HD programming streamed from my iPad, on Apple TV, and HD shows streamed from Netflix.  I have tried the Dolby Digital setting in both "Auto" and "On" settings and neither appears to work.  I would assume that HD content would play in 5.1?

  • How do I connect my ATV to my Yamaha receiver, pvr, Sony Bravia, and DVD player?

Note: I am not very savvy with this stuff so basic lingo please ;) I have a lot of hdmi inputs & outputs. I had it all connected & working except for the surround sound wasn't playing for Apple TV. I have 3 hdmi's on the TV labeled 1, 2 & 3. The receiver has a "HDMI DVD IN1" and "HDMI DTV/CBL IN2" and then another that just says "OUT".
So I'm not only trying to figure out what to connect to each device but also by the numbers & in & out options.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

If you want the ATV sending audio to the receiver, connect it to one of the inputs on the receiver.
Ideally, all devices connect to the reciever.
The reciever then connects via one HDMI cable to the TV.
That way all audio goes to the receiver and the TV merely acts as a monitor.
However, this may not work in all situations depending on the number of inputs on the receiver.  Personally, I would replace the receiver with on that has at least 4 inputs, but that may not be feasible depending on your situation.

  • Connecting to HDMI TV and audio to my receiver

I'd like to connect my apple TV using an HDMI cable to my TV but I'd like the audio to come out via my Yamaha receiver and surround sound speaker system. I don't have any optical cables. Should I connect the analog audio cables from the back of the Apple TV to an unusued audio port on the receiver?

Sound thankfully is active on all outputs simultaneously, but when using HDMI the video is disabled on component.
Your problem will be that using analogue you'll only be able to send stereo/Dolby Pro Logic to the surround system - you really need optical for any proper 5.1 content.
Is it that you just don't have an optical cable or that there are no spare inputs on the Yamaha?
BTW I run HDMI to the TV and optical to my older Yamaha processor and that works fine.

  • HT5437 connect apple tv to Yamaha receiver RX-A1010

Want to set up Apple TV to Yamaha Receiver RX-A1010 and to use URC Harmony MX980 IR remote.  No info available on Yamaha website or manual
    Anyone done this?
Had Home theater set up by professionals - was hoping we could to this part ourselves.

I just got an Av receiver this week and connected an ATV to it.  You connect from the ATV to one of the receivers HDMI inputs with an HDMI cable and then connect from the receiver's HDMI output to  TV HDMI input.  If your tv does not have HDMI ARC, also connect an optical digital cable between receiver and tv for sound.  Just be sure to remember what input you used on the receiver to connect your ATV to so you can select that input to play the ATV.

  • Play music with yamaha RX-V573

I have a yamaha RX-V573 receiver that used to play music from my iphone via the serial connection without difficulty.  Now after the latest IOS upgrade the music will play but I can no longer start the music with the receiver's remote as I could before. The phone connects to the receiver fine and I can choose 'music' or 'video' and pick a song but the song will not start.  I have to go into the phone and the music app and start it manually.  The remote will them advance the songs if needed.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • No audio with HDMI cable connect - need optical cable?

I have just connected my AppleTV 2 with my Pioneer ELITE 910 HD Plasma TV system.  I have a hard wire ether net connected.  I have a great picture coming out of the HDMI connection from AppleTV plugged into my ELITE 910 HDMI Media Receiver.  But I am not hearing audio.  I have gone through the 'settings' menu on the AppleTV screen and have every setting correct (I believe)   It might appear that I may have to purchase an Optical Digital Audio Cable that would input into my Pioneer ELITE VSX-54TX receiver (that does have an Optical Digital Input that has not been used.)
Am I on the right track?  I was hoping the video AND audio would travel through the HDMI connection.   I don't want to spend money on the cable if I don't need it.

Re: No audio with HDMI cable connect - need optical cable?
Yes, audio and video should go via HDMI.
Do other peripherals work ok with the pioneer over HDMI.
My LG BlueRay player works fine.  My TIVO works fine -- good audio and video
AppleTV is a bit odd with audio at times.
Does the pioneer media box handle doilby digital and linear PCM?
I don't know what "linear PCM" is.  All the specs on this 2004 system are here:
    http://plasmatvbuyingguide.com/plasmatv/pioneer-pro910hd.html
If you have Dolby Digital set to Auto I'd expect you to get some audio - if set to On and media box can't decode DD then you may get no sound.
Try cycling those settings as well as the one for audoo bit depth.
Have done all this.  Still no audio

  • Audio from HD receiver over SPDIF on X-Fi Xtreme Mu

Hello,?perhaps someone could help me with following question:I've got a HD receiver that outputs the audio with optical S/PDIF. In my PC I've got connected a 5. sound system to a X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card that I now also want to use together with the HD receiver. Is it possible to connect the digital S/PDIF cable to the X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card, the sound card then has to decode the audio and output it to the 5. sound system over the Cinch cables?I found a Digital I/O Module that extends the X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card with S/PDIF input:http://de.europe.creative.com/shop/p...oduct=773&page=?So is it together with the Digital I/O Module possible to use the X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card in the situation I've discribed? If not, could you please suggest any other sound card that you think would be good/better for this usage? Thanks for any hintsAndreas

More info about the Sound Blaster Digital I/O Module. Which has the Dedicated optical and coaxial digital outputs and inputs. This will work for your X-Fi XtemeMusic soundcard. It works great on mine.
If you don't want to buy the Module on the creative webstore, just google "Sound Blaster Digital I/O Module" to find a different webstore. Some webstores have free shipping. Sound Blaster Digital I/O Module

  • Why should anyone buy an EXTENDED WARRANTY if you won't honor it? Yamaha Receiver fails and so do U

Spent about $300.00 bucks on a Yamaha Receiver. At first I had heard all the stories about lack of customer service, but my wife talked with me in the car and I went back and figured what the hell.....so I got it. Supposed to take over after Yamaha's warranty ran out. Instead when I went back to deal with the problem, Receiver in hand to my Local BEST BYE, we could not find a manager. Then they could not find the warranty. Seems like when it benefits you stuff just vanishes.

    Hello IbedoctorGonzo,
Welcome to the forum, and I sincerely apologize for the delay in replying to your post. Buying the Geek Squad Protection plan is a great way to ensure that should something go wrong with your Yamaha receiver, like a manufacture defect, you are covered, and I'm very sorry they were not able to locate the plan when you took it in for service.
The Geek Squad Protection plan ID number should be on the purchase receipt if you still have it. Using the e-mail you registered on the forum, I was unable to locate your information.  If you would like me to assist in locating your plan please send me a private message with your full name, e-mail address, phone number that we have on file for you, and zip code.
