No auido with .mts files

I import my .mts file.  It plays in the Preview.  I have NO audio.
I have tried every option in the "Audio Hardware" , still nothing.
I have used converters, to convert to "ipad/iphone", I get audio.
Any ideas?

  • Help with .MTS files

    Hi all
I am sure this has been asked many times, but I really know very little at all about video files and have tried a few things already.. but my lack of skill / understanding isn't helping!
I have some .MTS footage filmed at uni that I need to very simply edit (cut and join different clips). I brought the .MTS files home on my memory stick as I thought, yay, iMovie time! When iMovie didn't recognise the files, I thought I'd have a go with FCPX trial version, which I thought was bound to be able to handle them, as surely such flashy software can handle HD stuff... Alas, no, and I'm gutted.
I have tried to convert my files to .mp4 (seems to be the main option in free converters) but I lose a lot of the quality, they look dreadful. I don't mind losing *some* quality, but these looked totally yucky.
So I wondered if someone might help me understand how to get these .MTS files into FCPX (as I'd really like to try the software out now it's here!). I would try importing direct from the camera, but 1. I left the camera at uni this weekend and 2. I deleted the original files, thinking I'd be fine to, as I have copies in about 3 places. Gah!
Any tips that a simpleton like me can follow would be much appreciated. Sorry if this is a question brought up all the time!

    general advice:
Avoid ANY converter, which converts 'orphanized' mts to h.264 - that's a (very) lossy process.
    Why?
    Because, mts IS h.264!
    so, two-and-a-half options:
    • use a converter, such as ClipWrap, able to convert straight to FCPX' intermediate format proRes
    • use an un-wrapper, like free Rewrap2M4V, to 'unpack' the mts into a mov (rename resulting suffix)
    • or, try Panasonics free AVCAMRestorer which claims to re-establish a fully functional AVCHD-structure, which allows FCPX to trigger its own import-routines with your mts

  • Why is the audio not working in Prelude or Bridge with .MTS files?

There is clearly something buggy with Prelude and Bridge (CS6)  on .mts files. I changed one test file from .mts to m2ts and ithe audio works. This however is not a easy workaround since I have thousands of .mts files.  Any thoughts, suggestions, updates?  thanks

I don't know if you need and answer anymore.  But I had the same problem with premiere.  I have tried to duplicate the conditions but now it alwasy works.
After trying awhile and opening and closing CS6 I noticed that when  you start a new project.  Above the Name you enter,  It says capture format and it was set to DV.  I clicked on it and there was the option HDV.
Since my footage is HD I chose that and when I dragged and dropped my file there was sound attached,
Another time it happened,  So I took a look at the 2nd screen that comes up that I usually hit cancel on.  And saw the AVchd Folder Icon.
    I clicked on it
And I picked the format I would use.  For Me it was 1080p 24
I clicked okay.  There was a sequence indicator in the source files but I ignored that and dragged and dropped my file into the project box.   I got video and sound that way,  Now for whatever reason.  I don't have to do any of those things for the file to have sound,
I think they mention it here but there is another post that says to be able to use markers on MTS files you need to either copy the file directly from the source or copy the entire AVCHD directory in what ever file you store videos,
That means keeping your SD card or Camera Hard drive clean so you don't import the same clips over and over.
I have been playing with Prelude but I am not sure if I as a one man show doing simple little movies need it.
Speedgrade looks more useful and I am learning that,
I don't know if this is helpful or too late to be helpful but I just figured it out recently.

  • Color correction with .mts files

Hi,I´m editing .mts files in premiere pro, but I want to do the color correction in a diferent program, but since must of the programs don´t support mts files, what would you recomend? after that, I want to get back to premiere to finish my worflow, but I don´t wan´t any compression, any advice? I would love to correct in Da Vinci..

YOu want to color grade this in DaVinci...which doesn't support .mts...but you don't want to recompress the footage into something that DaVinci will work with? You don't want ANY compression?  Not possible...if you want to go to DaVinci. You will need to compress to something it recognizes, and then guess what? You will compress again when you render out of DaVinci...but if you send ProRes or DNxHD the recompress won't really have any degredation.
    or use Speedgrade...

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 hangs - Problems with MTS files?

    Hello all,
So I've read the other MTS file posts on here about problems importing.  I had this issue initially but moved the folder and it worked.
I got into my project and every now and then I would get this lagging, where Premiere Pro would still play, but the cursor would be frozen, and anything I click on wouldn't highlight... can't scroll etc.  This seems to happen when the fan in my mac kicks up.
It has gotten to the point now where I can't edit the project at all because this happens about 3 minutes in each time.  Works fine for a few, then fan kicks up and everything starts lagging and freezing.  What's weird is I found a part on the screen, that if I click it, the screen updates to what I just did.  SO WEIRD.
THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN ON ANY OTHER PROJECT.  And this project isn't even that big.  So I highly doubt it's a computer performance issue as I've worked on RED RAW and Prores 4444 files on my macbook pro (which I'm on now) with no issues.
Long story short I've tried about everything, and feel the only solution is to transcode to prores and start all over with the edit (which would be brutal) but I've already completed so much work!  Does anybody have experience with this or a work around?
    Thanks!

    Hi Kevin,
    Thanks for responding.
I was given a drive with the RAW files on them.  I originally just used finder and dragged and dropped into Premiere, since that's what I've always done... but since the issue I'll start using what you mentioned.
Did NOT update the project.  Started it on CC 2014.
I tried importing the sequence into a different project and the same issue is occurring.  But below I've given more info as to my problems.   I'm really concerned I'm going to have to start it all over again.  I recently transcoded all files to Prores 422 (hq) in case that's what I need to do.   But I'm really hoping there's something I can do to resolve this.  Though I have a feeling it's the .MTS files causing issues.
    What version of Premiere Pro?
    Premiere Pro v8.1.0
What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac".
    OS X 10.9.5
    What kind(s) of source footage?
AVCHD... I went about "show package contents" until revealing the .MTS files.
What were you doing when the problem occurred?
Editing.  Noticed in the beginning, but as the sequence as gotten longer the problem became more persistent, until now it's ALL THE TIME... and the computer fan kicks up right away like it's struggling with playback.
What other software are you running?
Shut down all other programs so Premiere is just running.  Still happens.  All other projects have been working fine but this is the first with .MTS.
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed?
    No.
Tell us about your computer hardware. Be especially certain to tell us about third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU).
    None.
Are you using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration?
    Yes.
Does the problem only happen with your final output, with previews, or both?
Everything.  Screen lags and freezes with anything.  It still plays back without interruption, but my cursor won't move, windows won't update, I can't scroll anywhere unless clicking the top part of Premiere (then it magically updates what I did a moment ago).

  • Premiere Elements 9 : no sound with .mts files

I'm having a bit of a problem getting my mts/avchd files to work with PE9. I imported the files using the organiser, and they play fine (video AND audio) from the organiser, but when I import the clips into PE9, only video is imported. There's no audio track and (logically?) no audio to be heard. How do I fix this?
Mind, these .mts files play fine in both the organiser AND windows 7. They're created on a Canon HF100 camcorder.

I do not know if there is a "Getting Started" tour of PrE offered now, but there should be, and in big, bold print, there should be a first message, that explains the necessity of matching the Project Preset exactly to the source footage. Next, the tour should go into how to determine the attributes of the source footage to a Project Preset. If there is not such a "tour," I feel strongly that there should be.
I believe that PrE 9 has added a feature that helps one match source footage to a Project Preset. In PrPro CS5, one would just drag one of the source videos to the New Icon, at the bottom of the Project Panel, after Import. This then creates a new Sequence (think mini-Project within a "master Project"), with the exact specs. required.
Many new users are unaware of the above necessity, and then are confounded by a whole list of Presets, that often do not make a lot of sense - yet. Probably a good 20% of all program problems trace back to a mis-match between the Project Preset and the source footage.
As for mixed format/CODEC footage, the best way to handle that is to either convert secondary set of footage to match the primary footage, for which the Project Preset has been established, or to do separate Projects, each matching their source footage 100%, and then doing an Export/Share to a format/CODEC, that matches the primary footage. Then, one can easily combine all of the footage into a single, new Project, or Import the Exported footage into the Project with the primary footage for final editing.
    Good luck,

  • No sound in Premiere Pro with .mts files

    Hello,
when i import .mts files in Adobe Premiere Pro. There is no sound, why? I can import other other video files, like .mp4 and there is sound.
    Please Help!
Premiere Pro detects the most settings false, it said 25p but i recorded with 50i and 1080i

There is Audio in my files, the files are produced by an Sony Legria HF S10. I can play the sound with vlc Media Player, but in Premiere Pro CS 5, they said in the file is no sound!
Other files, like .mp4 had a little speaker on the clip, but .mts files not!
I used the Adobe Premiere Pro CS 5 German Trial.

  • No sound imported with mts file

I've a paid subscription version of  CS6. I'm trying to import an mts file but no audio will show in the timeline panel. This worked perfectly yesterday. I can preview in bridge with no problem. I can play back with vlc player no problem. What's going on

Sorry my friend. I did not mean to insult your intelligence in any way. I'm on Lynda.com a lot. Just did the one on updates to CS6 Premiere and I've been working professionally in the industry for over 20 years. Sorry I can't help much with this issue.
I am wondering from other posts I've seen, if the problem is with third party cards, AJA, BMD, Matrox, etc, even the CUDA cards. Don't know if you use these. Our CS6 Premiere is only on a MacBook Pro at the moment, so none of the third party concerns and it's working fine with AVCHD, ProRes, HDV. I did have one file go offline, but easily relinked it and all it good. All the best!

  • Serious quality loss with MTS files and iMovie '11

    Hello,
I have some issues with my brand new Panasonic HDC SD700 (a full HD camera)
I experience serious quality loss when I use iMovie to create a movie.
I did some tests, but still puzzled int this world of codecs and formats.
Maybe some of you can help.
I have made a short shot of 450 sec with highest mode (1080p 24fps)
It show is finder as a .MTS file size 99MB, I'm very happy with the quality when I play this with VLC.
iMovie turns this file into a .mov file with 635MB size, in Apple Intermediate Codec, Linear PCM, Timecode. This quality is already poor compared to original MTS file.
No wonder that the output file (select 1080p H.264 codecs) results also in unacceptable quality.
I'm running latest imOvie version with all updates etc.
I have no idea were to look to solve this issue. It is quite annoying since I have invested in a top Cam recorder. Not sure is Final cut express will sure the issue either.....

I have made a short shot of 450 sec with highest mode (1080p 24fps)
Have you tried shooting at the PAL standard of 25fps? I checked the specs for your Panasonic but didn't see any mention of a 24fps mode, but most reviews seem to miss mentioning the shooting modes. If you did indeed shoot at 24fps, did you choose this frame rate when importing to iMovie '11?
I export as 1080p (same as original. My output is a bit blurry and colors are a bit pale.
Did you use the 1080p preset under Share to Media Browser, or Export using QuickTime? If the latter, be sure to select an appropriate data rate - if set too low this may result in poor quality output.
And yes you are right I'm using IMovie '11, quite confusing that '11 means version 9.0
Yes - very confusing! In the forums, iMovie versions are generally referred to by their year number, not version number. It's a pity that we have version 9.0 (iMovie '11) and iMovie '09.
Glad you liked the video - it looked very clear on YouTube at 1080p Full Screen, at least to my ageing eyes!

  • No audio with MTS files

I have a problem with my audio in Premiere Pro. My files are MTS, and the video works fine. There is just no audio. I use a Canon XA10 camera.

    Hi Michael,
If you have not already done so, import these files via the Media Browser, not File > Import or by dragging to the Project panel. Once imported, allow some time for the audio conforming to complete. Report back after you have done so.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Exporting Project Metadata (with MTS Files)

I have a project that contains about 90 MTS video files.
I used Premiere's Metalogging to add a short description to each video.
Is there a way I can export the text to... well, anything? So that someone can review the text?
I am wanting to put the filename, description, and maybe the duration into a text document. Can this be done without copying/pasting each line of text from Premiere into a text document?
Since the video files are MTS, is this going to make things especially difficult?

I'm not aware of any way to get this information out automatically.

  • Why Poor DVD quality Encore CS6 with Sony FS100 MTS files from PPro CS6

I am using PPro CS6 on a MAC Pro Quad zenon with Boot Camp. On PC side I was using PPro CS6 & Encore CS6 with MTS files from  Sony NX 5U with NO Problems.
I just started using a Sony FS100 recording 1080i (60) format MTS files. When I Dynamic Link to Encore, the quality of the image is very soft compare to image from previous
projects with MTS files from Sony NX 5U.When I open a previous NX5U project, it still displays and creates an excellant dvd.Need help in solving problem.

Thanks for the advice. I tryed your method with same results.
I then tried changing project quality settings with somewhat better results
    but not good enough results.
I looked at some of my previous dvds that used mts files from my Sony NX5U
and the quality was much better
that any results I am having using the Sony FS100 mts files. Even still
pictures do not look good now in Encore.
I then tried using Roxio Creator 10 Pro to make a dvd.
The results were excellant! Video files and stills are great.
I noticed that Encore CS6 is using the "Main Concept" codec to transcode.
Has something changed in the basic
settings with my Encore and can I reset my Encore to original defaults???
Any advice would be welcomed...Thanks again.

  • Working with naming redundancy of MTS files

I am new to working with MTS files in prelude and eventually Premiere and have a few questions about the proper workflow.  I would be very grateful for any wisdom.
first off background on the project:
    - We have .mts files from several different consumer Vixia cameras
    - The cameras used the same naming convention for each card.  (starting with 000.mts working its way up).  These means we have several different .mts files, with the same name.
    - The file structures were copied over directly from the cards, and therefore unchanged.  However, I still can't work with the metadata for some of the clips... and therefore suspect i need to transcode some of them.
    My Questions:
    1.  Is it a problem that there is a redundancy in the naming of the .mts files, and that i will have several clips in the project with the same name?  All the clips are organized into a folder structure based on date and roll, so i'm not worried about the name redundancy when i'm actually editing.  I am worried that if the media gets disconnected Adobe won't know which clip to look for, and may try to reconnect the wrong clip with the same name.  Does Adobe reconnect based only of file name, or does it also look at the path?
I'm scared if i change the file name, it will be hard to make sure the file name is changed across the folder structure, and therefore the native structure could be corrupted.
What is a best practice workflow for working with .mts files with the same name in adobe?
    2.  Alot of the footage is shot by non-professionals, who didn't know to break up clips.  Therefore, we have a lot  of "spanned" .mts files.  is there any solution to spanned files?  I've read in a previous forum that there is not, and that the only way to avoid the issue is to transcode.  Is that information still true?
    3. If i do have to transcode, what is the recommended codec?  I usually go with prores 4444, but that codec's file size is way too big for the amount of footage we have to go through.  Any suggestions?
I would be so grateful if anyone can help on these questions!!

Working with these AVCHD files just involves a bit of care and proper project management.
eg Well named Source Folders (on local hard drives) and well named "rushes" Folders in your Premiere Project.
Take care when importing/ ingesting to not overwrite the files at any point..
No need to rename or transcode source files.
Relocating / Relinking is not an issue.  (especially if you dont lose them in the first instance).
If workflow involves additional pipelines  eg delivery via edl  to a Color Suite.
Ensure timecode and source files are clearly set up in a manageable way.
BTW - If one is able to shoot with control of timecode..its helpful.  eg Card 1 = 01:00:00:00, Card 2 =02:00:00:00 etc...

  • How can I add metadata to a MTS-file in Adobe Bridge?

    Hello,
I want to add some tags to my Videos. Those are MTS-files.
Is this possible in Bridge? How can I do this? Or do I need another programm for this?
    Thanks for your help!

I want to add some tags to my Videos. Those are MTS-files.
Is this possible in Bridge? How can I do this? Or do I need another
    for this?
Don't think Bridge and .MTS files are a good match but don't use those file (nor much video at all, mostly photography) myself and can't check.
But you can try it yourself very easily.
To be sure make a back up so when it does not work nothing is lost. Point Bridge to the folder with MTS files (use the folder panel for quick navigation on your HD) and when you can see a preview (or file thumb) check the metadata panel IPTC or other fields.
If you see a pencil at the right side of the panel for a field click on it and you can add info, if there is no pencil you can't.
