No Auto Render

I am a new user to Final Cut Express HD, & I'm having trouble with the auto-render feature. I have to render each clip. If it helps, I am using a Sony HDR-HC3 (HDV) Handycam. I am not sure which codec to select in the Easy setup, but so far I have been able to import using the Apple intermediate 720p codec. The problem is that it doesn't show me the video on my screen when it is playing in the camera. I'm sure that has something to do with why it's not auto-rendering each clip that I drag into the timeline from the browser. Someone told me that my video settings for my preview and my timeline don't match. Is this true, and if so, how do I fix it?

okay. I think I answered my own question about the capture feature, and why I am not able to see the video footage on screen when I am capturing. See the article on http://finalcutpro.digitalmedianet.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=47073
It says, "The second issue many editors will encounter when working with HDV footage is during the capture process. When capturing you have no deck control. You simply start playing the tape, open the capture function, name the clip, and capture will occur until you press the escape key."
Okay...understandable - but why the no auto render?

  • Reporting Services Webpart - web part does not auto render consistantly

We are on SharePoint 2010 (integrated with Reporting Services)- on several sites we have added the Reporting Services Web Part and with a saved parameter.  The behavior of this web part is not consistent.  There are times when I open up a site
and the web part will auto render the report.  5 minutes later I can go into the same site, and the web part does not auto render the report.  I have to do edit page, or close and re-open the web site.  Has anyone experienced this type of behavior.
I've looked for assistance with this issue on-line cannot find anything that specifically addresses this issue.

    Hi Karen,
If the parameters have default values in the report, then the report can be rendered automatically.
For this issue, I recommend to verify the things below:
Does this issue occur when you open the page with the web part in a new tab in the browser or go back to the previous opened tab?
Does this issue occur in the server side or client side?
Please add the site to trusted sites in Internet Explorer to see how it works.
Please change another browser to see how it works.
For narrowing down the issue scope, please test with another report and compare the results.
    Thanks,
    Victoria

  • Auto Render .... is it creating QT's that are eating my drive space?

Hello - I've been editing a feature and have several projects open at the same time, as well as lots of sequences open too.  I noticed
today that 40 gigs just evaporated from my hard drive and I'm assuming (now, after research) that it's because of Auto Render.
It appears that every minute a new QuickTime was created on my drive, and was labeled, for example:  ROUGHCUT_1-ITM-00002d01.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Isn't this overkill on Apple/FCP's part?  I have deselected Auto Render and so far it seems as though it has stopped creating these files.
My question is:  Can I delete all these files without disastrous results?  I am working with an external drive which has all of the media and the project.  The Auto Render has been saving to my MacBook Pro drive - why - I don't know since I have set everything else up to save to my external.  How do you FCP users work with or without Auto Render - do you keep it on and delete the files later, or do you have it off?
    Thanks for any tips!!

Actually, relooking at your post, I am assumming you are on Final Cut Pro X since that is the forum you are posting to.  If you are not, then none of this will make sense to you.  If you are then  ...
You have to be out of your project timeline and into the project browser on the lower left part of your screen.  You can get there by clicking on the icon with the reel of tape in it at the lowest left corner.  If it is pointing to the left, click it to get out to where all your projects are in view.  That is the project browser. See the two pictures below ...
Then simply click to select a project but do not double click to go into it for editing.  Then go to the File menu and select the Delete Project Render Files near the bottom of that menu.  Check the option to delete only unused render files.  Hope this helps.

  • Auto render XML (aepx) file

Is there a way to auto render a composition in a XML (aepx) file? Watched folders does not support that. Is there a way to incite render through terminal console?

    No.

  • A cautionary tale:title 3-d and auto-render

Working along happily. Did a manual save. Double clicked a title 3D clip in my timeline and opened the control panel window to change some text. Phone rang. Had long conversation. Went to lunch.
Came back. The little auto render complete box was showing it's ugly head. Clicked OK. NADA. The titler being open effectively kicks you out of fcp so you cannot accept the finished auto render. FCP effectively locked up. Cannot close title tool.
Had to force quit. Nothing lost because of the save and my autosave vault is set for 5 minutes.
However, I think I'll turn off the auto render.

    Yep,
Auto render can mess things up if you are using multi-clip as well.
    I leave it off.

  • Is it possible to set up a script to auto render as new files appear in queue

We have a system that creates images automatically and we need to be able to automatically convert and re-size them and move them to a new location. Some are needed as .gif animations but most are stills.
I can set up a series of comps with the appropriate render queues
Is there a way to trigger a render when new files are written to the project's images folder.
Every day these images would be updated several times. The old images would simply be overwritten.
An additional component would be to stop the warning message that I am about to overwrite an existing file on the render.
    Thank you in advance.

When you say "the project's images folder", do you mean a folder in the file system, or a folder in the AE project window?  Although I can't help you with the specifics, I'm pretty sure the former is possible (using scripting at the OS level to trigger an AE script), while the latter is not.

  • Auto render or render is not saved

I have a project that sequence settings is 240X280. Any time I render and minimize the window, or restart FCP the render files are gone. There is a red line on the top, showing that needs to be rendered in order to preview. IN the same project I have a sequence that is 720X480 and its working fine there.
Is there a solution to this?

Yes, make sure you sequence settings match your clip settings. Your frame size looks a bit unusual, what format are you dealing with?

  • When sending to Encore do effects auto render?

And isn't that feature just freakin' awesome?!? I love rendering once when going to disk only! :)

  • Render at a Specific Time Every Day

Is there a way to have a specific Final Cut Pro project to render automatically at a specific time every day?
I work at a CG house, and shots are updated at random intervals, but are always in a fixed, specific location. So by rendering out the project everyday we would always have an up to date complete edit. And by automating it it could be rendered off hours and be ready first thing in the morning for review.

Or page 548 of Volume III, if you're on Final Cut Pro 5 (FCStudio 1).
    'Main Menu/Final Cut Pro/User Preferences/General tab'
FCS2 may allow specific time of day, but FCS1 simply lets you set a period of time (while the program is open, but idle). So set it for 2 hours, leave FCP open when your last editor leaves the office.
This also offers several choices on which sequences you actually want to 'auto-render'.

  • The infamous render question

I've read several posts concerning rendering and so far none of the answers have helped me. I have both red and yellow bars over my timeline so I know I need to render. When I go to render, the render bar pops up for a second then goes away (and doesn't render anything.) EVERYTHING in the Sequence > Render menu is checked.
    Why won't it render?

Just so we can knock out the obvious, have you checked all render types in "Render All" and "Render Selection"? If you don't select anything and try to render a selection you may get the result you're getting, although a quick check in FCP 5.1 on my machine started to render the whole timeline.
On another track try the "auto render" feature in the "User Preferences / General". Turn it on and see if your video renders.

  • Flickering background render speedometer, will not render

    Hi,
Using FCPX 10.1.1 (this also happend with 10.1) and I have background rendering checked it the preferences.  FCPX will not auto render when I leave the system idle for the ammount of time I have input into the prefs.  The little speedometer that shows background task completness is just flickering between 100% and 0%.  I can manually render clips under modify>render clips, but it won't do it "in the background".
I have "Prevent App Nap" checked in the info window of the FCPX app.
    Anyone else experniening this?

This has only happened once for me – and that was using an early version. In my case, trashing renders fixed it for good; but it's possible I also deleted preferences, since it's the first thing I do when the app acts up. So try that as well.
If this is a project-specific thing, try pasting a copy of the problem timeline into a fresh project.

  • Why are my render files in my boot drive/root directory?

I have configured FCP to use an external drive for my Scratch Disk to render Video Capture, Audio Capture, Video Render and Audio Render as well as the Waveform Cache, Thumbnail Cache and Autosave Vault. Plenty of room on it and for the most part, I see a lot of render files on it, just like it should do.
However, if I leave FCP running for a while, it will start to auto-render again and does so placing tons of huge files on my local boot drive right on the root directory under a folder called "Render Files". It ends up filling up my boot drive every time and need to delete them.
I have searched everywhere to find where to configure this to move it to my scratch drive, but no joy.
How do I get FPC to render these files on a non-boot drive scratch disk?
    Thanks.

That's possible that's it going to sleep. But I don't think so. The problem happens when I let the editor sit too long without doing anything in it (get up for a cup of coffee, using another application to generate some text effects, etc). Then its starts rendering on its own and does so only with the local boot drive/root directory.
When it comes back, the "green line" (Preview Render) is gone and the lines are replaced with dark blue, which I think indicates the sequence was rendered in the highest possible res/codec I have selected. That's fine, but why does it insist on using the local drive when I have another specified?

  • Seeing unwanted noise in composition - Both - Preview and FCP final render.

I have imported a logo made in photoshop (w/no background)into Motion. I have added the wave, defocus, and bloom filters to this one object... When I play it back in Motion (1.0.1) I see horizontal streaks appear at random in the preview window. It is random because each time I move forward and back frame to frame the streaks almost never appear in the same location. When I drop the project file into FCP the streaks are also rendered in the sequence. Any suggestions? When I play the rendered file back in FCP it almost looks like dropout. I am using the ATI Radeon 9800Pro Card. I just updated the drivers for the video card and it did not seem to help.

User preferences, General tab. In the lower right hand corner - Auto Render settings.
I've turned mine off as I've been cutting music videos with multiclips.

  • What render settings do I need for Sony EX 1080p/35 editing?

Recently I have been plaqued with a problem that prevents me from exporting a finished file.
I've found something strange about my settings that I need help sorting. I import Sony HD EX files (1080p/35) but have the rendering set to Prores HQ.
If I go to sequences:render and carry out a full render, then any attempt to export the file, either through QT or Compressor, will fail. However, if I wait awhile, a little box appears telling me that an auto-render has taken place. In this case, I can export at will. Most of my clips on the timeline are in Prores ( after a trip to Color) but some appear in a variety of formats, from HDV to full 1080p/35mbs.
Strangely, the Sequence:render selection carries out a further render on request, after which nothing can be done again! Nothing seems to have changed on the timeline but the export fails.
It appears that I have a conflict of settings and need to sort it but I can't see what I need to do. Ideally, I'd like to go back to Sony EX and ignore the Prores but I welcome any advice.

    That's great. Thanks
So which version are you running using 4GB?
Do you have to close all other programmes down to help improve the speed?
    Cheers
