No Auto Synch

I have all of the latest software updates (system, iTunes, iPhone) but the iPhone will not auto synch with my Core 2 duo iMac. iTunes starts up when the phone is plugged in but there is no auto synch even though that option is checked in iTunes. I can synch by clicking the synch button in iTunes but it used to be automatic. I have turned off the iPhone to do a reboot but no change. Any ideas?

Found preferences that needed to be changed. Don't know how they were ever changed.........

The auto synch on attaching is turned off

There is no merge feature for itunes content, never was. Merge applies only to contacts and calendar entries.
The itunes content sync is one way - computer to iphone. The exception is itunes purchases
You can transfer the purchases from the iphone to itunes before you sync. File>Transfer Purchases

  • Auto Synch with MS Outlook XP

    Hi,
Is there a way to auto synch Sun One Calendar with MS Outllok XP?
    Thanks
    Ronen

    Have not done that !
However.... I think it should be possible.
    Something to check maybe....
1.) The command to sync with outlook in my PC looks like this
"C:\Program Files\Sun ONE Synchronization\xtndpc.exe" /S /AN iPlanet /PN MSOl .But you still have to click "sync". Maybe it's a switch for that too. then run it with the "at" command.
2.) Create a macro like in the old recorder in earlier versions of windows. Then Scheedule the recorder with "at".
I think there are many programs that can record mouse clicks, and replay them.
I looks like you are trying to use outlook as a "fat" client against SunONE mail and calendar. I remember I read an article about things you can not do with this type of syncronization when you are not online.
I see the outlook part of SunONE syncronization only as a migration tool from outlook to SunONE mail/cal. I only use the PDA sync tools myself.
There are two new clients that will be released this year (If you can trust Sun and release dates).
    * Ask Sun for the status of their upcoming Unified Client which is a nice webgui containing both mail and calendar in the same view.
    * I have heard that Evolution for windows will be in the office suite with Staroffice. Todays it exists for linux www.ximian.com. Evolutions is a "fat" client that looks even better that Outlook.
The best of all for all windows freaks [ not me ;) ]...
Sun say that they are working on an add on to the SunONE mail/cal servers to support the MS outlook client directly against their servers. The MS Outlook client will think it talks to an MS exchange server.
Have'nt got a clue about release dates.
No more ideas at the moment

  • Shifting from auto synch to manually manage without losing songs?

I have an 80Gb classic...it is now loaded with 30GB of music that I auto synched onto it. Long story, but I need to delete all the music on my laptop now given limited space on it...and then as I buy new music, I would want to manually add to my Ipod. However, i strongly suspect that if I make the change from synch to manually manage, once my Itunes library has been deleted, that I will then lose all the music on my ipod? Hope that the question is clear.

On a the PC default document location (and thus iTunes location) depends on OS version & user account name. I guess the true path to your music on a Mac has the same issues. For many years kept I've my data on a separate partition or drive to cut down on the pain of reinstalling an OS and be able to handle multiple OS's with the same data.
I finally gave up and manually recreated the over 200 playlists...it was actually a good thing because it made me really look at how my music library was organized or the lack thereof.
    Never a bad thing...
BUT, I am still wanting to know how this feat could be accomplished. Why is it that the manuals and discussion groups etc. always answer every question except the one you have which seems so freaking worthy!?
Lol - nice to see you've retained some perspective. I'm sure it can be done.
In fact, if I recall correctly, on a PC there is a method which involves deleting the iTunes ITL file (holds the optimised database iTunes actualy uses) and then editing the paths in the text-based XML library to match the new locations. If iTunes finds the XML file but not the ITL file then it rebuilds it from the XML data. I used it once when I wanted to relocate a section of my library but iTunes spent ages scanning the files and rebuilding the artwork cache so it seemed no easier than deleting them from the library and then reimporting from the new location. Besides the Mac version probably does this differently.

  • How do i stop auto synching

How do i stop my phone from synching as soon as i plug it into my pc?

If you have trouble selecting the "Prevent iPods/iPhones from syncing automatically" setting, what happens if you change your computer's screen resolution?
But Carolyn's suggestion actually does prevent automatic initiatation of auto-syncing.  If you de-select the "Open iTunes ..." option and here's what happens (unless its different on a Mac):
If iTunes is not running, connecting the iPhone will not launch iTunes (nor initiate a sync, of course).
If iTunes is not running, but you launch iTunes with the iPhone connected, iTunes will boot up but it will not initiate an auto-sync -- that will commence only when you click the "Sync" button in iTunes.
If iTunes is already running, connecting the iPhone will not initiate an auto-sync -- that will commence only when you click the "Sync" button in iTunes.
This is how my iPhone and iPad are set -- I auto-sync but I don't want that to start until I'm ready, and I do not have the "Prevent iPods/iPhones from syncing automatically" option set.  This feature seems more applicable to non-iOS devices which are set for auto-syncing.

  • ICloud mail not auto synching on iPhone or iPad

If I read and delete mail on my Mac in iCloud and look at my iPhone 4 or iPad2 (iOS 5), they will both show on lock screen, notifications banner and the mail icon badge all of the emails I already read and deleted.  I have to open the mail app and then within a matter of seconds they are either marked read or deleted, but I shouldn't have to open the app on all devices.  This should happen in the background.
Anyone else have this problem and maybe find a solution?

    Hi,
I had previously tried that, but only deleting the SQLlit databases.
This time I tried to delete the whole iTunes_Control folder as suggested, hard reset.
It resynched with iCloud and now I had neither artists names or album names.
As an added bonus iTunes no longer recognised the device and wanted to set it up as a new phone - good job I had backed up the folder so I could re-insert the iTunes information to sort that little issue out.
I've cancelled my auto renew on Match subscription. If I don't fix it by early December then I'll save my money and forget the idea of using it until next year.

  • Auto Synch with music library?

    Three questions actually:
1)I have single directory containing all my songs: D:\Matt\My Documents\My Music. I've told iTunes this under iTunes Music Folder Location and it appears correctly there. BUT a secon persond also uses the PC and has their own music library under their name.
iTunes has included songs from this other directory and I don't know how or why - any suggestions?
    2) I'm always adding/removing re-tagging songs in this directory. How do I get iTunes to simply synch with whatver is there and ditch anything that's been removed?
    3) The dirctory had 10,000+ songs but iTunes only shows around 8,000 - any ideas why? ALL files are .mp3.
    Hoping someone can help

I'm guessing these both have the same answer. It sounds as though you are doing things with your music files outside of iTunes, such as adding or removing files and retagging them. iTunes has no folder watching function. If you add files to the directly and not to iTunes, it won't know they're there. If you changes tags using another program, iTunes may not see the changes. You can often force it to but selecting the track on which you made a change, selecting Get Info and then pressing the ok button in the resulting editing window. Seems easier to me to just change the tags in iTunes.
If you're doing all your file manipulation through iTunes, then you may need to dig a little deeper to find the problem.
    Best of luck.

  • Can't disable auto synch in iTunes

    Hi,
I apologise if this question has been answered before, but I am having a problem with my 5th Generation 80G iPod.
    I am running *iTunes 10.1.0.54*
I am sick and tired of my iPod synching every time I put it in its docking bay (iWantIT brand). Mostly, I simply want to charge the ipod, or play its music through my PC speakers +without running iTunes+, which slows my computer down.
I have ticked the box in Preferences which says *"Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from synching automatically."*
But when I put the iPod in the cradle, it says *"Do not disconnect."* and a *Windows Explorer* page pops up, showing my iPod contents. It proceeds to sit there indefinitely until, in desperation, I go into *My Computer* and Eject the drive. Only then can I play my iPod through my dock and into the speakers.
It is driving me CRAZY! I have disabled everything "Apple" in the MSConfig, and it still says, *"Do not disconnect."*
    Can anybody please help? :O/

I should add that, when I put the iPod in the dock, iTunes DOESN'T actually launch. So my iPod would sit there until the cows come home, doing nothing.
In the iPod controls, accessed through iTunes, all these options are UNCHECKED:
[ ] Open iTunes when this iPod is connected
[ ] Synch only ticked songs and videos
[ ] Convert higher bit rate songs to 128kbps AAC
[ ] Maunally manage music and videos
    [ ] Enable disk use
But it still says, "Do not disconnect" when I put it on the dock.
And the Explorer window still launches.
    Grrrrr.

  • Auto Synching iTunes libraries and music files among 3 computers?

My wife and I have a PowerBook and a MacBook that we use offsite at work and at home. I'm buying a new iMac for home. What I'd like to do is make the iMac a central respository for our entire iTunes music library, and have the 2 'books synch with the iMac. It's a huge music library - like 80+ GBs, so it won't even fit on each of our laptops. I don't want to simply turn on iTunes sharing to stream the music to the laptops, especially since that won't work (easily) while we're not at home. What I do want, is to have certain playlists automatically synched to the 'books, so the music files of a particular playlist (or lists) actually reside on the 'books. My wife would have the playlists & associated mp3 files on her MacBook and I'd have my playlist and associated mp3files on my PowerBook. And the iMac would have everything.
I thought that I read an article in MacWorld or MacAddict a while ago about this, but can't seem to turn it up. I've also looked at some of the synching software on VersionTracker, but I'm not seeing anything that's as simple as clicking a Synch now button...
Anyone have any suggestions? Advice? Thank you in advance!!

    Nova
I replied earlier to your iPhoto question, and the response here is similar. iTunes is not a server and so you will have similar issues. Things are further complicated because iTunes doesn't particularly like to Export song files (tho' it will merrily export Playlists). However you can drag and drop Library listings to the Desktop and it will copy the song files there. So, drag and drop the files to a folder, sync that folder to a folder on the client machines, and again add the songs to iTunes via a script using Folder Actions for automation.
And again, you will have issues if you try and sync back to the iMac. So there's nothing as simple as clicking a Sync now button.
I wonder if this capability is limited because it would make piracy even easier?
Have you thought of buying a couple of iPods? That's how we solved the same issue in this house.

I have an iphone 4S and my partner has an iphone 4.  We share the same Apple ID.  She just accepted an upgraded (had been holding off because of the maps situation) and now our address books have synched!.  Also, we receive a copy of the text messages we send each other.  It seems our phones have merged and we want things back to normal!  Any ideas on how to "separate out" our own phones?  Thanks so much!!

  • Not auto-synching Podcasts

I manually sync my music on iTunes to my iPod touch and I have the Podcast setting to sync the last 3 episodes. However when I plug the iPod in I have to manually sync the Podcasts as well. Shouldn't they auto-sync when the iPod is plugged in?

  • Development Synchronize: Differences Auto v Synch'?

I am getting really confused about this. Sometimes I want to synchronize to an absolute value - say White Balance and other times I want to synchronize a change - say +10 brightness.
I find that the way synchronization actually works seems to vary between absolute values or the delta. Is this related to the use of Auto Synch' v std synch'?
    Many thanks. Peter

Quick Develop offer a "relative" adjustment of settings while Develop is only "absolute" by nature. There is no way to make a +10 relative increase iinside of Develop. Whatever the settings are that you Sync will be synced based on absolute numbers-meaning the EXACT setting number in the synced from image.
If you wish to do relative changes, that's where Quick Develop comes in...a plus click on the Exposure will increase all the selected images be a relative amount and not an absolute amount.

  • I am unable to synch music from selected playlists in my iTunes library onto my new iPod Classic, despite meticulously following the User Guide.

I just purchased an iPod Classic, and after making sure I had the latest ver. of iTunes on my Intel MacMini, printed out the User Guide and carefully began learning how to operate the iPod. My first step was to ensure I had manual control (vs. auto synch) because I want only selected songs and playlists on the iPod, not my whole iTunes Library.
On pg. 24 of the Guide is the topic "Synching music from selected playlists onto iPod Classic." Just what I wanted. OK, I selected iPod "in the source list" (aside: Shouldn't it be "in the device list?" I dispair of imprecision). This brought up the iPod Summary page, showing I had selected Open iTunes when connected and Manually manage music and videos. Next I clicked on the Music tab.
This presented me with Synch Music next to an empty check box. Below it, and entirely grayed out was:
Entire music library (showing a checked box)
Selected Playlists, artists, albums and genres (next to an unchecked box).
There's also a third grayed out item: Include music videos that is checked.
When I selected Synch Music, I got the message: "Are you sure you want to removed existing mlusic, movies and TV shows from the iPod and synch with this iTunes LIbrary?   I selected Cancel because:
    1. The grayed option Entire Music Library is checked, not mly preferred option of Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres. .
    2. I can't find anywhere in the User Guide how to "Select the Playlists" I want to synch to my iPod. At present all I have in iTunes is my list of playlists in the left hand side bar.
OK, my first thought was the checked box in the iPod's Summary window: Manually manage music and videos. So I went there and unchecked it, which immediately brought up an alert  to the effect "Are you sure you want to automatically synch your entire iTunes library, etc. etc...? I quickly cancelled. Thus, I seem to be in a Catch-22 situation.
    So the questions are:
How do I resolve the Synch Music issue so I am assured only selected playlists will be sent to my iPod?
How do I create a list of playlists in my iTunes library to be transferred to my iPod?
How do I manually move a playlist in my iTunes library to my iPod's lists of playlists?
Any help much appreciated. Thanks to all.
    John in the Pacific Northwest

For the immediately problem, you can shut down the computer and disconnect the iPod.
There may be a process (program) running on your computer in the background that continuously monitors mounted volumes for things like maintenance, data corruption, and malware.  The iPod's storage is a mounted volume.  If you know of any such program, such as an "anti-virus" utility, and it has settings that allow you to exclude certain volumes, you can set it to ignore the iPod "disk" when connected.
Also, if you are using automatic syncing (not the manual method) to load the iPod, and you have Enable disk use turned ON, turn it OFF.  With Enable disk use turned OFF, iTunes only mounts the iPods disk when syncing, then immediately unmounts the disk.  Thus, other processes you have running on your PC (not iTunes) will have less of a chance to make the disk "in use" and cause this problem.  You won't even have to eject the iPod before disconnecting.

  • IPod touch no longer synching playlists

    Hi,
A couple of days ago, my iPod Touch no longer syncs playlists. I have a couple of playlists with a few hundred songs. The playlist shows up on the iPod in the playlist menu, but if you go into the playlist, it only shows 2 or 3 songs. But if you go under songs, all the songs are there.
Steps I've taken to fix this:
    1. Reset iPod. No change.
    2. Deleted and created a bunch of entirely new playlists, error still occurs.
    3. Restored iPod to factory settings. No change.
    4. Uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled. No change.
Has anyone seen this before? It's very annoying. I'm stuck listening to all my songs on shuffle, even if I just wanted to listen to a select few I put in the playlist.

    Auto-synching.
The playlist is a Smart Playlist, created with the following rule:
"name" "starts with" and then the letter, which I change daily.
    Options checked are:
Limit to 10gb selected by random
    Match Only Checked Items
    Live Updating
Again, when I sync, all the songs make it over, but the playlist is empty or only contains a couple of songs. This only seems to happen with Smart Playlists. If I select all the songs in the smart playlist, then create a new playlist based on the selection, this will sync properly.
