No automatic iPhone pics --- iPhoto

As of today, I've done an Erase and Reinstall of OS 10.4 as well as a restore on the iPhone, and I can not regain a feature I had when I first purchased this iPhone.
I would like camera pics from the iPhone to be automatically sent to the computer when it's plugged in. Currently, I have to launch iPhoto and and manually click "Import". I can not find a setting anywhere to activate this functionality. Any advise?

It will import to iPhoto's main library. If you're using iPhoto 08, it will import as an Event as well.
If you want to import to a specific folder, Automatically Download all items must be unchecked, you must choose a folder each time you download and go back to pressing the import or import all button.
A simple Automator workflow can be created to import directly to a specific folder. When the iPhone is plugged in and Image Capture runs, it needs to run the workflow. Then everytime you plug in your iPhone it puts the images in the specific iPhoto album.

you will see the device in the lefthand column
select it then look for the import button on the main page of iphoto

  • How to get pics from iphone to iphoto library on hard drive

Hi there. I saved my photo library to an EHD. I pointed iphoto to open the library from EHD. Normally when I connect my iphone to my macbook pro, iphoto just pops up asking to import the pics from my phone. But now it doesn't do that and it doesn't show my phone on the left pane of i photo. How do I get my pics and videos from my iphone into the iphoto library i saved on my ehd? Thanks!

    Greetings,
Make sure your external hard drive is Mac formated and has a reasonable amount of space available.
--- Side note:  If you haven't already, you should tell TimeMachine to backup that external hard drive as Time Machine only backs up your internal hard drive by default.
    Try:
    1. Install all software updates for both your computer and your iPhone and turn both on and off and re-plug the cable between them.
    2. Try importing your pictures and movies using Image Capture found in Macintosh HD > Applications.
-- If Image Capture sees your iPhone when iPhoto does not, try creating a new iPhoto library on your internal drive to see if that library can see your iPhone.  This is done by launching iPhoto while holding down the option key.
If those steps do not help, follow this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3195
    Cheers.

  • IPhoto says iPhone pics are improper format

For some reason, when I try to import from the iPhone to iPhoto, only two pics show up in the thumbnail view (actually, just frames where the pics would be) even though I've taken many more.
When I try to import, iPhoto tells me that the pics are improper format and cannot be imported.
Any clues? (phone is 2.0 but not 3G)

I have this same issue. When opening iPhoto 7.1.4 with the iPhone (v 2.0 software), pictures that have not yet been imported into iPhoto appear as gray outlines in the main window. Attempting to import new images results in an error dialog box stating that pictures were not imported due to improper format. I also get a list of the images not imported.
These images show up fine in the iPhone Photos app. I've imported to iPhoto from the iPhone many times before with no incident. Other users have reported this issue recently -- some fixes suggested:
    1) reboot the iPhone (turn off by holding the sleep button on upper right until the shutdown slider appears. turn off the iPhone, then turn on again.)
    2) reset - hold down the power and home key simultaneously.
    3) trash the iPhoto prefs (haven't tried this yet)
    4) rebuild the iPhoto catalog (I'm using a third party app from FatCat software to make a backup and new catalog now -- it's taking a while)
    http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/
There doesn't seem to be any official Apple fix for this problem, although it seems to be related to the 2.0 upgrade. I don't have enough info to be able to pinpoint the cause or a proper fix yet. More when I do. I'm getting rather irritated at Apple's high-handed Microsoftian approach to user problems these days. Their "knowlege base" is usually useless. Thank god for user forums!

  • HT4859 Iphone pics downloaded to Mac iphoto

When i sync my phone with my mac & download my pictures into iPhoto, can i delete them off my phone without losing them?

If they are saved in your iPhoto events, yes.  If they are in your photo stream, it depends.  If you checked Automatic Import in iPhoto>Preferences>Photo Stream, yes.  If you didn't, then they would be deleted when you delete them from the photo stream album on your phone.

  • My address book and iPhone pics have become low resolution.  Is there a way I can prevent this from happening when I start out with a higher resolution picture?

I guess I squeezed my entire issue into the subject line.  lol   When I sync my iphone to my laptop I notice that all my address book pics and iphone pics have become lower resolution, even though I started out with the resolution that I really needed to produce decenty address book printouts.  I doubt I can correct the losses of resolution that have occurred but can anyone help me figure out how to prevent future losses?  Thank you!

Plugins usually are installed externally to Firefox. However, you can disable them in Firefox so that Firefox does not use them.
SearchReset is supposed to automate the task of resetting certain preferences, but you still can edit them manually if necessary.
    '''''Address Bar Search'''''
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''keyword''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Right-click '''keyword.URL''' and choose Reset. This should restore Google as the default for address bar search.
    Does that work?
    '''''Search Box'''''
Usually it works to choose your preferred search engine from the drop-down. To remove an unwanted search engine plugin, usually the Manage Search Engines... choice at the bottom of the drop-down takes care of it.
    Do either of those work?
There might be another way to hijack that search box; I think some of the other frequent responders probably are more familiar with it than I am.

  • How do I copy all the pics I've taken with my iphone to my laptop.  I am familar with syncing, do it all the time, but I can't find my iphone pics anywhere.

How do I copy photos taken with my iPhone 3GS to my computer???  I am familiar with syncing, which I do every other day, and I can see pics from my computer on my I phone, but I cannot see my iPhone pics on my computer.  Please help!!

Anyone else have further info?  Seems strange that when you use a browser on the phone and it automatically sends you to a mobile version of a webpage or to an app that you don't have the choice to go to the actual webpage you are trying to get to....there must be a way?

  • Can i sync iphone pics to time capsule?

Can I Sync "automatiacally" my iPhone pice to my newest version of the time capsule?

Let's try a different tack. Try and see if you can get the Mac to go into Target Disk Mode ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661 ) by holding down the T key prior to the startup chime. If a Firewire icon pops up on the screen, you're all set. Turn the Mac off and abstain from using it if possible. While the new MBP arrives, go and purchase an appropriate Firewire cable. If the dying MBP has a Firewire 800 port, by all means get an FW800 to FW800 cable as this is the fastest option. Else get a FW400 to FW800 converter cable. When it arrives, plug the two Macs together with the cable, start up the old one in Target Disk Mode, then start up the new one.
Setup Assistant will kick in automatically in this first start. After a few questions, it will offer to migrate from a previous Mac ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4889 ). Choose yes and select the target disk option. This will pull all your stuff from the dying Mac: files, settings and apps. Note that Lion doesn't do PPC apps anymore, so those legacy apps will be crossed out.

  • Import photos from iphone to iphoto

I've been able to easily import photos from my iphone to iphoto by connecting my phone to the computer via USB cable.  However, it does not seem to be working.  I have the older version of iphoto (I believe it's version 9), and when I connect my phone it is not automatically asking if I want to import.  I've checked my preferences in iphoto, and have it set to open when a mobile device is connected.  When reading other posts similar to this issue it seems that there is a "device" section over to the left, which I do not have in my iphoto.  I know the USB cable is working because I can see my phone is connected to my itunes on my computer.  I would like to take my photos off my phone to free up some space.  Thanks!

    Hello bbb34vball,
Since that article didn't help, I would suggest trying the steps in this article next:
iOS: Unable to import photos to computer - Apple Support
If that doesn't resolve your issue, you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources - https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.

  • Transfer Video to iphone from iphoto

what is the easiest way to get video clips onto the iphone from iphoto? keeps on saying cannot play video on iphone. tried putting in itunes and that didnt work either. video is from a flipvideo, goes automatically into iphoto, can easily put into imovie or itunes if that helps, any other suggestions would be great. iphone is a 3GS

It needs to be converted to a format that's playable on the iphone. These are the only supported formats:
Video formats supported: H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.
Once converted, add it to your itunes library & from there you can sync to your phone. Handbrake can do the conversion for you automatically & has presets for the iphone:

  • Re-syncing iPhone with iPhoto

My iMac's hard drive recently died. I've managed to re-sync most everything as it was. However, when I sync with iPhoto all my photos are listed as events and do not have their own folder. I'm speaking of the folder that looks like the flower Photo icon on iPhone that used to be in my iPhoto.
I've tried making a new folder called "photos" but with no luck.
What can I do to get that folder back without all my photos being Events?

However, after my hard drive was replaced I was able to get all my apps and pictures off my iPhone and back onto my Mac with no problem.
This is easy for apps along with any other iTunes content purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store. iTunes includes an option for doing this at File > Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. This transfers iTunes content from your iPhone that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
This does not transfer photos from your iPhone's Camera Roll, or any photos in your iPhone's Photo Library which is where all photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync/transfer process are stored.
If this is in reference to photos in your iPhone's Photo Library - the transfer of these photos is a one way transfer process only - from your computer to your iPhone, so how did you transfer these photos in the opposite direction?
And since photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone are optimized for viewing on your iPhone as part of the iTunes sync/transfer process, which reduces the original resolution of these photos on your iPhone, the original resolution of these photos is lost when transferring these photos in the opposite direct with a non-supported 3rd party utility that provides for this.
Now there when I sync with iPhoto there is no folder at all. It just dumps all photos into iPhoto as separate events.
Are you referring to importing photos from your iPhone's Camera Roll with iPhoto? If so, this is an import process as with any other digital camera, not a sync. Photos imported by iPhoto are imported into the main iPhoto Library and with the current iPhoto version, photos imported from a digital camera are also placed in Events that are automatically created by iPhoto based on the date of the imported photos. All photos in iPhoto are stored in iPhoto's main photo library. There are Events which include a pointer to the original photos located in the main iPhoto library, and you can create iPhoto albums which also include a pointer to the original photos located in the main iPhoto Library. You can't have a photo in an iPHoto Event, Album, or Faces unless the photo is in the main iPhoto Library - just as you can't have a song in an iTunes playlist unless the song is in your main iTunes library.
I'm just asking if there is a way to get the iPhone photo folder back into iPhoto.
You can create a new iPhoto Event or a new iPhoto Album.

  • Saving iPhone Pics to Aperture...?

When I sync my iPhone is there a way to automatically copy all of my iPhone pics to a certain Aperture library...? Currently, I'm using Aperture to import all of my pics. Also, I must delete all of the pics on the iPhone since Aperture does not suppress the duplicates, etc... Then I must manually delete or copy via Image Capture with auto-delete on to delete all of the iPhone pics... I do this when I have at least two copies saved.
Also, I use PhoneView to archive voicemail, text messages, and call logs. This is another manual operation.
So, I'm trying to make the number of manual operations fewer to make life easier.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    R

I'm running Aperture 3. When importing the pics from the iPhone directly, select the destination folder, then check the "Do not import duplicates" box. This will work fine for everything except iPhone movies, which Aperture doesn't handle that well.
PhoneView is up to you. I stopped using it.

  • IPhone pics to iMac

How do I get to my iPhone pics on my iPhone 4 to move them to my iMac? I don't want to import with iPhoto if I don't have to. On my PC I could open my phone like a hard drive on the screen. I assume you can do that on an apple too, but it doesn't show up on the desktop.

    They go into iphoto.
You can drag them wherever you want them from there. Open iphoto. Find the pic. Drag it wherever you like.
Or you can find them in Finder>Pictures>iphoto library
    From Pixelmator site:
    "Photo Browser
The Photo Browser palette in Pixelmator offers quick access to your iPhoto or Aperture library, events, albums, and smart albums. It also allows you to easily browse images taken with PhotoBooth and pictures in your predefined custom folders. Best of all, you can simply drag and drop any of those images as layers to your Pixelmator composition."
