No Avi audio symbol on timeline

Hello, I've done a search for this so excuse me if I have overlooked a previous answer.
In AE CS4 on Windows an avi clip with audio imports with it's audio but the audio symbol does not come on once in the time line. It's like it cannot see the codec, maybe, but playing the avi from the project window the audio plays ok.
Using the same clip in AE CS4 on Mac Os X is fine. There seem to be a ton of audio hardware settings which I may have to look at. I usually use AE on Mac so I'm not too familiar with Windows specific preferences.

Well, do other files play correctly from the timeline? If so, that would indicate that the audio stream uses an unsupported CoDec, which still would function when playing the file using the system's routines, but not when AE needs to decode the audio buffer... Anotehr common reason for such behavior is the audio being multiplexed in obscure ways on compressed files or the channel assigments not pointing to the first two (stereo) channels. On the hardware end, it would be hard to advise, but a screenshot of your current audio hardware prefs (attach it using the camera icon) should certainly clarify things. also try to provide the exact details of your AVI file e.g. by probing it with GSpot and similar tools. If all else fails, consider separating audio and video, which on Windows can be done easily using VirtualDub.

Scrubbing audio enabled slows timeline

When I have audio scrubbing enabled timeline scrubbing is clunky and slow. It appears to only display various frames as if I were editing an MPEG file. (I am working with AVI's.) Turning off audio scrub solves the problem. The timeline responds lightning fast displaying every frame. Can someone explain why this is?
I am fairly new to premiere. I am just wondering if it is normal or whether I have an issue that can be corrected. The other edit system I have used for years scrubbed audio without an issue. Perhaps Premiere handles the audio differently.

Turning off the "audio scrub" did eliminate part of my issue - I can now open a clip in the SOURCE monitor and scrub smoothly. However, when an in or out point is added to the clip, the scrubbing becomes very choppy. Tested the same clips in CS3 with no issues.
My machine is built for editing and far exceeds the minimum specs. Also, my clips are being stored on an internal SATA drive so it's not due to network or external drive lag. Any ideas on why this is happening? Why would it happen in CS4 but not CS3?
The issue is making it difficult/impossible to complete a project that contains hundreds of individual clips.

How can I replace WAV with AVI audio on tmeline?

When I first put an AVI on the tmeline, it was on both the audio and video tracks. Then I replaced the audio with a WAV file and now I want to replace the WAV with the AVI's audio. The timeline says it isn't the right kind of file and won't accept it.

Easiest way to do any of this stuff is to export from your NLE as separate streams.
When exporting the AVI, export just the video, do not include the audio.
Then export just the Audio, and not the video.
This will give you the most flexibility.

What format is your problem clip? Are there wave forms visible in the section without sound?
Right click on the clip in the event broswer and choose Reveal in Finder; open the clip in Quick Time to confirm that there is sound throughout at that stage of your workflow.

Raw files WITH audio appear in timeline WITHOUT audio

I have many files that absolutely HAVE audio appear with none in the timeline. The track itself is there, but the waveform is flat, no sound, and nothing in the source monitor. However, when you "reveal in finder" that particular clip, and play it through VLC, there IS audio.
My thought is that the metadata associated with the clip is corrupted, be it xmp, cfa, or pek.
I have run into this problem several times now. As far as I know, there is no easy way to have premiere to"redo" the audio conforming. Short of mucking around manually to find and delete all the metadata associated with that clip, I don't konw what to do. And I feel like even that doesn't always work...
For this particular project, I am collaborating remotely with another editor, so I completely understand the problem - the project files not routing to the same metadata or soemthing. That said, I did try to "reload" the footage and point premiere back to the original on my machine, but it still comes in with no audio in the timeline. I think it even tried to conform, but it clearly didn't do anything. Premiere thinks there's no audio at all.
Anyone have any ideas?

Any advice as to how to do that most efficiently? "Clean cache database" in the media preferences doesn't equate to "delete all cache." Its cleaning the cache for old projects or something, right?
And it is extremely difficult to manually delete these files, since many of the clip across many different projects stored in the cache folder share the same name, so the pek and cfa files are basically the same names too. no way to know which is which, save for painstaking attention to each file's modification date.
does it have anything to do with the XMP files too? Or is it just the pef and cfa? Which is the culprit here?

Drag & drop audio clip from timeline to project window ?

i no longer can drag a clip from timeline to the project window & then breakout the clip to mono by selecting clip - audio options- breakout to mono - now when i drop an audio clip from timeline into the project window it does not show up anywhere in the project window - did an update get rid of this function ? it was much better than having to go back to the unedited original source & start from scratch ...

thanx for your time Jim - i understand that would be the preferred method but that was a quick fix until recently i have noticed that i can no longer do it by just grabbing the edited clip & drop it in project window so that i can modify just that portion of the original files properties - it still functions that way on a friends machine - was just kinda weird that i can't get it to work that way any more …

Playing, Pausing, Stopping Audio in a Timeline

I don't use Flash that much so the question may sound simple, but how do I pause audio in a timeline? I have added the audio, play and stop button. When I test it works fine, but I can't figure out how to add the pause button, or the play/pause button.

Set the audio options on "stream" for the timeline. Then - a blank keyframe would do just fine. When you need the audio on, put it again and adjust the start point in the properties panel.

Adobe Premiere 2.0 Audio Desaparece en Timeline

BUenas a todos, nuevamente.
El siguiente problema, es con el audio.
Al insertar un audio en el timeline, perfecto, se oye estupendamente.
Cierro proyecto, vuelvo abrir el proyecto, y por arte de magia, el audio o no se oye o solo se oye por un canal.
El archivo de audio, por si el mp3 pudiera fallar, es un WAV.
Aun así, sigue igual, y lo mjeor de todo, es que si lo vuelves a reemplazar por el original, entonces, solo se oye por un canal o sigue sin oirse.
Alguien tiene el mismo problema?

What did you use for project preset? I am assuming PAL AVCHD Full HD1080i25 since there is no DSLR 1080p setting in version 8.0/8.0.1.
(Did you say what the recorder is offering in the way of video compression to go along with the .mp4 container format?)
Take that Timeline and export it to a file saved to the computer hard drive.
Share/Mobile Phones and Players/Apple iPd and iPhone/and preset = iPod and iPhone - High Quality.
Under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of that preset, have your Export Settings look as follows:
Then upload that file (H.264.mp4) to You Tube at the YouTube web site. What is the quality of the uploaded video?

Yes, you can do this. Drag the music track to the background and start adding your pictures. A great way to do this is to use beat markers so your photos will change on the beat.
A really fast way to do this is to line up your photos in an iPhoto album in the order you want them. You can drag the whole album into iMovie at once.
Here is a tutorial on the beat marker feature.
Here is a sample of a slideshow made by dragging in the music first, adding beat markers, and then adding photos.

Audio Wave in Timeline

I am pretty sure one time I had it so the audio in the timeline had the wave that goes along with it which helped line up the video with the audio. How can I do this? Thanks.

OptionCommandW will toggle the waveform display on/off
The keywords are 'show audio waveforms'. Do a search in the FCP help to read about other the ways you can turn them on/off.

Set up timeline to process audio dynamics before timeline levels

I'm having some issues getting audio to respond as I expect it to. What I'd like is for a track in my timeline to have a compressor (the Dynamics effect) run on it across the entire track. Then I'd like to be able to use the [] keyboard shortcuts to mix the audio in the timeline on a clip level. What is the best way to set up the timeline to do that?

Encore 1.5 -problem getting audio on the timeline

hi - newbie question!!!- i am trying to add audio to my mpeg2 video clip on the timeline in encore 1.5 - i believe you drag and drop the asset from the projects tab into the timeline but when i open the timeline and click the projects tab the timeline dissapears so i am unable to drop audio into the timeline.
is there any way of ensuring both tabs are open at the same time to allow this ?

What workspace do you have set up?
In our installation of Encore 1.5 it is perfectly possible to have the project assets list and a timeline both open at the same time.

One track of Audio in the timeline

I am only getting one track of audio in the timeline when I drag my clip from the viewer. In the viewer the audio is in stero, but when I drag it to the timeline it only one channel. Is there a setting that I change to get two channel of audio in the timeline?

Right (or control + click) over in the patching bay at the left of the timeline and see if it sees both a1 and a2. Assign the one you can't see to a patch and that might bring it back.

No Audio In FCPX Timeline, But It's In The Clip Window

I grabbed some video with my iPhone and imported it into FCPX. I'm ready to start editing, so I drag the clip into the timeline -- but there's no audio. Previewing the clip in the Clip window/area pays the audio just fine -- but I get nothing in the Timeline. I see the waveform, I see the meter moving like it should -- but no audio.
What am I doing wrong?

I have not used older versions in a while, but I guess you may have disconnected the little "a1" from the big "A1" as seen in the image below. Drag to reconnect them. If this is not it, then I can only suggest you ask this in the Final Cut Studio forum (or Final Cut Express forum - I imagine that is what you are using).

Connecting deleted video to audio track in timeline

I have made a narrative using audio, and I deleted the video sections. I want to re-connect the corresponding video to the audio, but cannot find a way to do this.

If I understand you correctly this audio finds its origin in a clip holding both audio and video. And now you are looking for the corresponding video?
If so, select the audio in the timeline. Navigate the pointer over it and press "f". This matches back to the original clip in the viewer. The viewer will open with the Audio Tab selected ("Stereo or Mono", but in the top of the viewer you can select the Video Tab. From there you can edit the video into the timline...
