No back button, address bar

When accessing my ISP homepage (RoadRunner) I no longer have a web address bar nor a back button. I asked RoadRunner about it and they said it is an Apple issue. I downloaded Safari 4 beta, but still no address window or back button. I had one up until about a week ago when Road Runner updated their homepage. Any ideas?

Have you tried Safari>View>Show Toolbar or Customize Toolbar?

  • Tab, Back button, address bar.....

Sorry for the double post. Original was posted in the wrong forum.
Lately, when I click on the tab button or command tab nothing happens (it does not open a tab).
    2. When I attempt to click the back button same result, nothing happens. Now, I can use the delete button to go back to the previous page.
    3. Clicking on the home button does nothing as well. For example it will display the home page, www.apple.com in address window, but it actually does not open the page. The same applies to the google search bar. When I type a search word, the address appears in the address bar of safari but without any results. It is also happens when type directly into the address bar.
It seems that the toolbar just locks up (can't add, refresh or exit any page). This quite annoying.
I have emptied the cache, reset safari, deleted the plist and still nothing. Any suggestions?
    PS
    Sorry for the long essay.

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues

Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
    bpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
Make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle so it faces down. Where you see Open using Rosetta... *make sure that is NOT selected*.
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences and select the Autofill tab. Click the Edit button next to; Other forms. Delete both .google.com and .apple.com and click Done. Relaunch Safari and see if you can access both sites now.

  • No menus, buttons, address bar after installing Firefox4=unusable browser

After upgrading to Firefox 4, my previously open tabs open, my bookmark tab is displayed (in the wrong order: first tabs then bookmarks is not the work sequence). But I don't have any buttons, menu bar, address bar, or search bar. There is a Firefox single "Menu" that drops down 2 columns of 11 and 6 options, respectively (what kind of a hideous menu is that on a 1920*1200 screen?). No View menu, which is what I need to fix the mess created by the installer. BTW: Even though the look of FF4 is crisper than FF3, whoever was to design the user interface paradigm didn't know what they were doing. This UI is not user workflow oriented, see my comment above about bookmark and tab sequence. Why is the currently open tab visually associated with all bookmarks in the bookmarks toolbar? Etc, etc.... Whatever, your choice, when I start hating it enough I'll switch to Chrome. Until then, please help me get menus back.

@ ''emlynn'', there are articles available on the Mozilla site which discuss the changes made to later versions.
However, on this particular occasion, I have to agree with you. I really don't understand why the new layout doesn't include a "File" menu. Mental aberration on the part of the developers methinks.
It's certainly not logical that a user has to go through this rigmarole to access the menu which disables "Work Offline".
But, in your own particular case, you need to update to v3.6.17 by clicking '''Help''', then '''Check For Updates''' a.s.a.p.
The reason for this is because there was a security breach at Comodo which is an SSL certificate provider recently whereby a number of fraudulent certificates were inadvertently issued. These allow a hacker to impersonate any site including online banking and the Firefox version you're running at the moment will not warn you that the site is a fake. The fraudulent certificates were blacklisted in v3.6.17 and beyond.

  • How do I get my address bar back? If I type in the URL of a website I need to navigate to, instead Mozilla is doing a Google Search and giving those results. How do I get the address bar back?

My address bar where I type in the URL has disappeared. I've searched through Help options, and found only one piece of moderately useful information (following) in Menu Reference. It is: "Open Location… Focuses on the Firefox URL bar so you can type in a new location to visit." However, Open Location is not included as a menu item in the File Tab in my Mozilla dropdown menu. I am not in Full Screen mode so that is not the problem! I think this may have happened last night when I went into Tools, then chose Options. I had been looking around to find out how to set up multiple tabs to open at Start-Up. Both Internet Explorer and Chrome have that option, and it's an important option to me. Firefox apparently does not over that feature, unfortunately. After looking through all the tab choices under Tools - Options, I went to the View menu, and chose Customize. I tried to add the Flexible Space icon, and it ended up being a mess so I had to remove those. The only thing I can think of is that it may have happened then, but I am not sure. I need my Address Bar back so that I can type in the URLS and just go to the websites.

Open Firefox -> Go to View -> Toolbars -> Chechmark on "Navigation Toolbar"
this will bring back your address bar (where you type links to go to websites :P )

  • Anyone figured out how to get rid of the address bar tooltips??

I asked this about a year ago. One guy responded with some editing tips using the developer tools, but did not mention how to get to the files to edit them (he was recommending using Interface Builder). I cannot understand why there isn't a preference setting to disable all tooltips in Safari. I find them to be extremely annoying & want them to go away. So, if anyone knows how to make them disappear, your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
**NOTE** I am not referring to the information popus that are part of some web pages (although it would be nice to eliminate those as well). I am referring to the little yellow rectangles that pop up when you hover over things like the stop button, refresh button, address bar, etc. I do not need to be told what those buttons or areas do, so I want this annoyance gone. **NOTE**

Have a look at this macosxhints Forum thread. Otherwise, I haven't seen a way to remove these annoying pop-ups. I've sent feedback to Apple in the past. Perhaps you might want to add your voice via this link.

  • I just downloadd safari and i have no address bar?

nor do i have anythin else, no "file" or "view" there is only the bookmarks bar how do i fix it?

Launch Safari. Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys and press the \ key. That should get you back your Address bar. Click the wee coggy thing at the far right of the address bar to see Show/Hide commands for other bars (like the Menu Bar with your File and Edit menus and so forth). Add back the other bars you want.

  • I lost my address bar.

I've read about bringing back the "menu bar" but I have it with all the words intact "File, Edit, View, ect.". I just don't have the address bar & I use it a lot. Could someone please help me?

You need to customize your Navigation toolbar to get back the address bar. This is fairly simple. These articles have the instructions to guide you: [[Navigation Toolbar items]] and [[How to customize the toolbar]].
For your information, in case you need to take a screenshot of your browser and save it as a picture, the steps can be found [http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/tips/screenshot.mspx here].

  • I can no longer get my address bar, back or foward buttons, tool bar, menu bar or anything else. How can I restore?

When I open Firefox I do not get an address bar only Google comes up. I don't get a back or forward button nor do I get the tool bar or menu bar. There is no default button. I read the forum but I can not make any corrections because I don't have a tool bar displayed. I am using 3.6. When I turn off my computer and then turn it back on, the default settings still do not return.

It is a long while since I tried Google Toolbar, I am not sure what it changes. But I would not expect it to totally remove your options to use the ordinary toolbars.
    ■ Try
    * press the''' alt '''key on the keyboard, that may return the menu bar
    * once you have the menubar '''View -> Toolbars ->''' and select which you need
    * you may also use View-> Toolbars -> Customise and drag items back or use the restore default set option.
    * right clicking on the toolbars also gets you to the customise and show toolbars options
    ■ have a look at [[Back and forward or other toolbar items are missing]]
    PS
I hope you do not need to resort to editing registry settings, the firefox 'dragons' in prefs are user friendly compared with Windows registry. Messing up firefox prefs only really affects firefox normally; whereas errors in a registry edit may prevent you from even booting the computer.

  • The back, forward, reload and stop buttons are greyed out, the address bar stays blank when I go to a website and firefox loads to a blank page, not my home page. There are 3 users on this computer and it only happens on one user.

Firefox loads to a blank page, not my home page. When I click on the home button it takes me to the home page. The back, forward, refresh and stop buttons are greyed out and not usable. The webpage I am on does not show up in the address bar. If I type something into the address bar, that address stays there no matter what page I go to next.

Just upgraded to v4. It did NOT fix the problem.

  • I have my tabs, and my Yahoo toolbar. I do not anything else. I don't have my address bar, back button, home button, bookmark button, or anything. Please help. Thank you.

I can't use Firefox because all I have at the top of the screen is the orange Firefox button, tabs, and my Yahoo toolbar. I don't have my address bar. I don't have the back and foreward buttons. I don't have the Home button or the Bookmarks button. I don't have my Google search bar. I don't have any the things that I should have and that I need to make it work. How do I fix this? Thank you.

I have been using 4.0 for about 2 months, and I know all of the new features and where everything is. But as of day before yesterday, the things that I mentioned '''are not there anymore'''! How do I get these things back? Thank you.

  • I accidentaly hit a setting to hide my address bar and all my other buttons like "file" or "tools" and I cant figure out how to get them back. Now i cant even type in an adress to go to another website because there is no place to type it.

I accidentaly hit a feature that allowed me to hide everything on the top of my browser. Now All i have are the options of "most visited, Getting Started and Latest Headlines." I have no place to type in a website address, no options such as "file" or "tools" or even the back or refresh button. How do I return it to the original settings?

if you hid the menu bar and the navigation bar simply press the alt button, this will bring back the menu bar and form there you can right click and select which bars you want shown

  • How do I move the Home button between Back Forward and address bar?

The way I have my firefox set up for years is to put the buttons like this:
    [Back][Forward][Stop/Reload][Home][Progress Animation][Address Bar]
Now in FF29 I'm trying to move the Home button between the BackForward buttons and the address bar and it won't let me.
I thought FF29 was supposed to be the most customizable Firefox yet? *confused*
Is there a way to do this, am I missing something? Thanks

''' "I thought FF29 was supposed to be the most customizable Firefox yet?" ''' <br />
Whoever told you that was incorrect, as far as I am concerned. Firefox still is more customizable that the "competition", but not as much as previous versions were.
The Home button can be moved, but the Back / Forward combo button is attached to the Address Bar - they can't be separated.
The combo Stop / Reload button is locked in the Address Bar.<br />
The old "Activity Indicator" is gone. Deemed unnecessary with the loading animation on the left corner of each tab, where the Favicon appears once the page is fully loaded.

Many users are installing the Classic Theme Restorer extension. <br />
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ <br />But I don't think that is going to turn out to be along term solution. As users start installing other extensions I think they are going to run into compatibility issues where the new extension "expects" the user to be using what Firefox came with - not the "retro" features.

  • My back button, print, and address bar are missing how do I get them back?

    ''duplicate - locking - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/865223''
tool bar went missing for unknown reason, no back button, no print button no address bar or bookmarks.

''My back button, print, and address bar are missing''
Use "Alt" to make sure the menu bar is visible, then View > Toolbars > ... -- make sure that the Navigation bar is checkmarked, if tabs on top is confusing uncheck that, if you want to see menus and title bar make sure menu bar is check-marked.
If things don't stay put on the toolbars then
    see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf
You can make '''Firefox 6.0''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 6.0, look like 3.6)]. There is a lot more beyond those first 10 steps listed, if you want to make Firefox more functional.

To get the Menu bar I followed the excellent advice - I had to press the Alt key and V to get the chance to pick toolbars from the drop down menu. I just right-clicked on the blank page and hit Alt-V.
    Thanks for the tip.
