No back light after hinge repair

Hello,
I have Power Book G4Ti DVI. It worked fine until I changed the RIGHT side broken hinge with a new one. The repair went "smoothly". Did not open the case- worked on the outside only. After that, I noticed that the back light does not work any more (can see faint images only). When I hook up to external monitor I am able to see things fine (on the external only). Did not touch the left hinge at all. 2 black cables over the right hinge seem intact.
Any suggestions of what might be wrong?
Thank you in advance...

Hi, Mac331. An inverter board can simply fail, without your doing anything to it. But if your right hinge has broken, the likelihood is very high that the backlight cable passing through it has been damaged and your inverter is OK. The only reason I suggest replacing the inverter first is to narrow the diagnosis down by ruling out inverter trouble. Doing all the delicate, risky work necessary to replace the backlight cable only to discover that it doesn't solve the problem would be a truly enormous PITA, even though the cost of the cable is relatively low.
To see what's involved in getting the display apart to replace any of the cables, look here. Read all the instructions and tips very carefully.

    If you've replaced the LCD then it's probably the LCD power inverter board that is the problem.

  • Back light only after using thunderbolt display

    Hello,
    I have a new 2012 Macbook pro 17 and a 27 inch thunderbolt display.
    The Macbook was working great. Then I connected it to the thunderbolt display and did clamshell mode. That worked well too. But.. then I powered down the macbook, disconnected the thunderbolt dislplay and tried to boot back up again. The mac book powers on, the back light comes on, I hear the chime then that is it. The back light stays on nothing else happens. Resetting the PRAM can not be done. Any of the boot options are ignored. It is like the keyboard is non resposive. I tried all the reset and boot  combinations available but nothing works.
    The light on the front of the macbook comes on then goes dim. The apple logo on the lid stays lit, and if I close the lid, the apple logo goes dim and the light on the front lights up. Weird, it is almost like it goes to sleep when it turns on. I tried conntecting the thunderbolt again but no joy. I am really disappointed. This is less than a month old and its already going in for repair. It should be replaced.
    Me No Gusta!

    Well, I tried the other reset method too. I removed the battery which was extremely easy. I found a tri tip screw driver I used to open Nintendo Wii's this was a perfect fit for the 3 tri screws that were used to hold in the battery.
    Anyway, it still did not work. Wow, I gotta tell you, this apple ****, is complete junk. I just turned a Lenovo into a hackbook. It actually seems faster than the i7 macbook that is screwed up. Never again apple, never again.

  • Lumia 1520 back light soft touch buttons always on after denim update

    Hello i have installed dev prew in my lumia 1520 but no demin update was found, so i unistalled it then the update appeared. But now after the update my light sensor Works differently is less reactive and the back light of soft touch buttons is always
    in also during battery save mode. Can you help me? Thanks

    Hi, Damodred. For the best experience with the Lumia 1520 touch screen, we encourage you to set the touch sensitivity to normal. This can be done in the touch section of the phone's settings. To do this, go to Settings > Touch > Touch sensitivity > Normal. About the second concern, are you using the headphone that came with it? Does it happen regardless of the headphone that you are using?
    We'll wait for you reply.

    You usually copy the screenshot to the clipboard and paste that image in an image editor program like Paint. Then you can save the image as a .jpg or .png file.

  • VERY hot macbook after apple repair

    I recently took my macbook to apple to get it repaired, as a few cracks had appeared by the hinges and screws, the main casing (including keyboard) and monitor casing were replaced, I got the laptop back today, and having used it for a while, it has got very hot (in excess of 100 degrees!) which is very unusual as it never used to get hotter than 80 before the repair (I use a free tool called Temperature Monitor by Bresink, I don't know how reliable this is but I know it never used to go past 80), so I'm just wondering if this is something to be worried about, but the fact that i nearly burnt my hand is reason enough to be worried.
    I also noticed that when i booted windows (boot camp, windows 7 32-bit) for the first time after the repair a few drivers were installed, at the time I just assumed that it was because components had been disconnected then reconnected, but would apple have changed any of the components?
    Thanks
    Ben

    Unless something happens to indicate a hardware issue, don't create a problem by trying to modify how the machine cools itself, except with exterior ventilation additions, or better heat conductors.

  • Back-light bleeding on new iPad 4 replacement

    G'day their;
    Yesterday I went into the Apple Store to get an iPad 4 replaced due to back-light bleeding in the corner of the iPad of which was quite prominent; this is a picture of the iPad that was replaced, the brightness of the screen is at around 60%:
    The man that I had an appointment with understood my scenario and replaced my iPad on the spot, even though the iPad only had one major spot which had back-light bleeding.
    I then went home, and checked out the new iPad that was replaced whether or not it had back light bleeding, and shockingly, it was even worse, the brightness is at 90%;
    Naturally, I was quite annoyed, called up the Apple Store and explained my situation, the man told me to make an appointment - their wasnt any available appointments until the week after, I then asked if I could come in and simply wait for an available appointment, he said yes - was happy. Went into the Apple Store today, waited 2 hours, and I was served by a young lady. I explained my situation, showed her numerous photos of this iPad as well as the one that was replaced, I explained how irritating it is to watch movies on my iPad as I'm continously looking at the light bleeding - she then took it into the back and ran diaognistics on the iPad. The lady came back to me and said that their is nothing wrong with the iPad in regards to software and hardware - I asked her if she tested the iPad in a dark room - she had told me she did her best to do so. I explained that, in comparison to my sisters iPad 4, hers has absoultely NO backlgiht bleeding compared to mine - and emphasised that the iPad that was replaced was not as bad compared to this new replacement. I still have the protective seal on this iPad too!
    She explained to me that, psychologically, "I'm looking for this problem, as it happened to my previous iPad, so naturally I'm anal about it", well yeah - then she said to me that my "eyes can play tricks on me as well" - Well, my camera doesn't play tricks? Basically what ever I had said, I was dissed - I said so I basically need to deal with this, she responded "Yeah, basically" - I asked her what options do I have to get this repaired/replaced - she said we can only 're-access' the situation in the future - I asked if over time the back-light bleeding will reduce, she said no, it can coincidently only get worse...
    I find it hard to see the logic in this?
    Any help would greatly be appreciated! Sorry for the extended response too.
    Regards
    EDIT:
    I have now attached an image of the new replacement iPad with the screen brightness at around 60%;

    Thought I may as well post some additional photos consisting of my iPad compared to my sisters iPad 4;
    Mine is the top iPad, sisters is the bottom iPad.
    Close-up of my sisters iPad, same side;
    The camera doesn't capture the full glory of the back-light bleeding, you can just imagine how much worse and more apparent it would be to the human eye!
    (With these images, I have enchanced the brightness so it's more apparent)

  • Macbook Pro 13" Mid 2009: back light problem

    Hey guys,
    I was hoping you could offer me some advice.
    My 13" Macbook Pro from mid 2009 has been having some backlight issues. Sometimes, after opening the screen, the backlight won't turn on. If I shine through the Apple logo on the back with a torch, you can see the log-in screen, so I'm pretty sure the problem lies with the back light.
    I have tried ressetting the SMC and PRAM, yet that hasn't helped. The only way to get the backlight to turn back on is to remove the cover, unplug the battery, hold the power button for 5 seconds, plug back in the battery, put the cover back, and then turn it on.
    So far I had to do this every 2 months or so, yet now the screen seems to die more and more often. As you can imagine, it's quite a pain having to go through this process over and over.
    Again, any advice to fix this issue would be fantastic.
    Thanks!

    I appreciate the response, but my issue does not appear in the linked article as a reason to reset the SMC. Resetting the SMC seems like something too radical to fix something that should "just work". My MBP generally takes too long to wake up or doesn't wake up at all. If it doesn't wake up, I hold the power button and restart. Very annoying, since my wife can resume work on her PC faster coming out of Windows 7 hibernation mode.
    Thanks, Apple!

  • My iPad Mini display is dim so i can barely see anything and I maxed up the back lighting is it broken already??

    Bought an iPad mini not long ago and the display suddenly went "black", there is absolutely no brightness in the display rendering it useless. I can make out the icons when i sit down in the dark and i can see the back lighting is set to max. I live in denmark and we have no apple store, its still in the warranty period, but where do i take it for repair? Can it be a software bug? I want to fix the problem fast. When i sit in absolute darkness with the wall plug connected I can see one backlight lighting up from the buttom right corner where the speaker is.

    Assuming that you have a credit card in the UK, with a valid billing address for that credit card that matches the credit card statement ....
    Launch the app store app. Go to the Featured Tab. Swipe to the bottom of the screen. Your ID is accessible in the lower left corner. Tap on the ID. Then tap View Apple ID. Enter your password. Go down to Country/Region and change the store to the UK in there.

  • 6280 back light

    Hi, does anybody know of a way to stop the back light timing out after 10 seconds? This is really frustrating when trying to either play games, or just reading a long text message. I have scoured the phones settings and tried all combinations of within the display settings/Standby Mode / Screen saver / Power saver / Sleep mode, but nothing seems to help.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Well it basically saves battery power, but no you can't change the brightness or how long it can stay on, nokia might make a new firmware for this problem

  • Y510P Flickering screen still after two repair jobs

    Hello,
    The screen on my y510p began flickering severely just a few months after I purchased it.  The flicker is present on the right third of the screen, and happens on BIOS boot as well as in Windows 8 and ubuntu.
    Here is a video of the flicker:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPI_szMcgm8
    When I sent the machine in to be repaired the first time, I was told that the screen, screen connector cable, and keyboard were replaced.  The problem was gone for about a week.  Same flicker, in the same part of the screen.
    Then it came back.  Worse than before.  I sent it in again, and was told the motherboard was replaced.  Within a few days I began to notice the flicker again. Same flicker, and in the same part of the screen.
    So after two weeks of having my computer at the repair facility, I still have the same issue.  I think at this point I'd like a replacement machine, or just a plain return of the computer.  How can I go about fixing this.
    Thanks for reading.
    -Zak

    Hey zacharypch,
    You are not the only one who has this problem. It is an issue that happens more often with the Y510P.
    Here is the main thread on this forum about the issue:
    https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Re-Y510P-Screen-Flashing-Flickering-Random-Colo...
    Unfortunately the admin's don't post there anymore, and I don't think that Lenovo has officially recognized the issue or has found a solution.
    Currently my laptop is also shipped out for repairs. One other person from The Netherlands got his money back after the repair took more than six weeks. Mine has been at the repair center for several weeks (I shipped it the 25th of March), and because of the earlier mentioned thread I doubt they will be able to find a solution...
    I just hope they will be able to fix the problem or give me my money back, since I need my laptop for study purposes.
    Several "fixes" mentioned in the thread are for a different problem with a flashing backlight. The problem we are having is different.

  • How do I adjust the back light time for my iPod 5th generation?

    I Set my iPods back light timer (not sure what it's called exactly) to one minute. And after realizing that some things get annoying to have to tap the screen constantly to keep it from locking itself I wanted to change it back to "Never" but I forgot where that setting is. If anyone knows where it is, which I'm sure many do, please tell me where to find it. Thanks.

    Hey Turnerfran, go into Settings>General and scroll down to Auto-Lock tap on it you can choose from 1 minute to 5 minutes or turn it off. If you choose off the back light will stay on until you put your iPod to sleep or turn it off or after the battery drains. Good luck. Cheers.
