No backrounds in idvd6

I installed iLife 06 and it was working well for a while and i created some dvds using iDVD and I had the motion backrounds and everything. Now all of a sudden when I go into iDVD i have no backrounds on any of my themes. Just text and a black backround. Even on the DVDs i already created and have saved. I tried re-installing iDVD 6 off of iLife and that didn't help. Also repaired permission but still nothing. I never installed any third-party themes or anything. The only thing I have done recently is installed 10.4.4 on my system. Does anyone have an idea on what happened? thanx in advance.

That's really weird...
This frequently helps solve some problems. Quit iDVD. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.

There is no such function in Adobe Reader (not even in Adobe Acrobat). Accessibility is only concerned with helping people who have difficulty seeing on screen, not with saving ink.

Backround color in a dynamic ajax report

ideas needed:
i have textual report which will be automatically refreshed (see carls example of automtic refreshing)
now i want to have a 2 colored report (rownum odd equals white background of row, rownum even grey backround). So you can see the activity in scrolling the colored rows.
how can i do this? maybe with html syntax inside the sql of the report?

I generate the query by a function (PL/SQL Function Returning SQL Query).
I have to report on timetable of schools. Per age group I have to report per subject (e.g. sport, mathematics,...) the number of lessons and the number of lessons without teacher - one row per age group.
In different schools are different subjects possible -> the report have different number of columns.
Now I need one background color for number of lessons and another background color for the number of lessons without teacher.
In the template (standard) I have only one "<td>".
In css-class (column attributes) I can set a class per column. The background color is changed only behind the number not the whole field.
Which css-classes on wich places I have to change?

Firefox keeps running in the backround after closing it, it just lingers there, and when I try to restart firefox, it says that I have to close the current one or restart my system to clear the last firefox. what can I do, thanks...

After the last update, my IBM Clone computer does not close the session of firefox when clicking on "close" it clears the screen back to the desktop but firefox continues to hang there in the backround and will not allow another session of firefox to start until the first session is closed. The only way to reconnect is to do a restart on my system, and then the old firefox session is closed and the new session will start.

Ideas for HELP sizing a background menu photo in iDVD6

Hey gang. I'm authoring in iDVD6 and have a photo with DVD credits that I want to display as a menu background. iDVD6 tells you to size your photos for NTSC 4:3 at 720 x 540 pixels. However, when I drop it onto the menu, it automatically enlarges the image so that there's only a partial view of the image. The only adjustment that can be made is vertically. I've even tried shrinking the image with text and mounting it on a matte so that it appears in the TV safe viewing area, but no luck there. Same thing happens. Any ideas? If someone want to mess around with the image, let me know and i'll email it to you. Thanks. -nate

i use photoshop to create my idvd backgrounds.
I size the backgrounds at 720 x 534 pixels in photoshop,
and "save as" .jpg.
they fit my idvd menu perfectly.
no re-sizing needed!

IDVD6 FAST on G5 Dual 2.0GHz and VERY Slow on G5 Quad 2.5GHz

I just finished a side-by-side test of iDVD6 on a 2.0 GHz Dual and a 2.5GHz Quad and I came up with some VERY disturbing results: The Dual was almost 2x faster encoding the same project as the Quad!
How is this even close to being possible?!
I have done the same test on 3 projects, and it is 100% consistent.
I have absolutely nothing else running on the Quad, but I can have photoshop 7 up and editing photos, downloading for usenet, QuickBooks 2006, and FCP5 open and it does not seem to affect the encoding speed on the Dual more that a couple minutes!
Both the Quad and Dual are pretty much stock except for additional HDDs and some extra Crucial memory.

Sorry, I forgot to mention this on my original post, but, while the Dual reported 100% activity on both processors while processing the iDVD project, the Quad was bouncing between 15-25% activity, occasionally dropping to almost 0% activity! Considering that the Quad was only running at most 25%, it finished the project incredibly fast. If the Dual was running at 25%, it would have been close to 8 hours to finish a 2 hour project.
ASIDE: On the Dual, in iDVD 6 I find that encoding of the menus and movie content consistent with Compressor: about 1.5 hours per every hour of video.
On the Quad, Compressor encodes an hour of video in less the 40 minutes, but iDVD is taking about 2 hours per hour of video content.
A considerable degradation in performance!
Although, I do have the Final Cut Studio, I do like some of the themes in iDVD, especially iDVD6. Unfortunately, because DVDSP4 does not support importing of iDVD6 projects, I have to use iDVD6 to create the dvds (images, never direct to disc). I suppose I could always rip apart a theme and backward engineer it for DVDSP faster that it currently takes the Quad to encode a single iDVD6 DVD.
BTW: I do not have any 3rd party iLife themes or add-ons added to the Quad other than a couple Jam Packs, but on the dual, I have some www.dvdthemepak.com themes installed and it has not affected the Duals performance.
Note: as of yet, I have not done a speed test with the iDVD 5 or previous themes. It may be my next task after I finish up some other projects. Still, using older themes should not affect the encoding of the main video content. But, who knows.. mmm.

DVD won't play since upgrade to iDVD6

I have used iDVD5 for 3 years to create DVDs (with videos edited in Final Cut) and these DVD would play in my portable TV/DVD combo and in my home DVD player. I recently upgraded to iLife06 which upgraded my iDVD to iDVD to 6.03. Now, when I burn a DVD, it will not play in my TV/DVD combo unit nor in my DVD player! Nothing has changed on my system except the upgrade to iLife'06. Any help would be appreciated. These DVD's DO play on my MAC and on another portable DVD player that I have. However, a client said that my DVD will not play on her Windows system. I sell DVDs as part of my business and this has to be corrected! I never had this problem before the upgrade. Please help!!

Are you able to first create a disc image and then use Apple's DVD Player Application to open this disc image? Let us know if it plays correctly directly from the disc image. If it does, then it may be you have a media issue. What kind of media did you burn to? Try using Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R and burning from a disc image at 4x or slower using apple's Disk Utilities or Toast.
If the above fails to resolve this issue then repair permissions on your Hard Drive. Also drag and drop the plist for iDVD to the trash. Looks like this:
com.apple.iDVD.plist
Empty the trash and Restart the computer.
Lastly, make sure to run apple's software updater for iDVD6 as well as for QuickTime.

Problem with psychedelic colours after encoding in iDVD6

I'm working on a long project in iDVD6 that just fits on a dual-layer disc. Everything is ok except for one particular movie. This clip starts out in mostly a greyscale colour scheme then dissolves to full colour after a few minutes. In the project, this plays fine.
I encode to a disc image and no errors are reported. On a dual g5, this takes about 10 hours to encode.
When I mount the image and check it, this colour problem arises. After the grey sequence, the colour sequence looks like random colour garbage. Very psychedelic but not the look I need for this project.
I tried deleting the encoded assets, re-exporting the movie file in question a couple times, and also sneaking some colour information into the greyscale opening sequence via a single line of colour pixels across the top of the 640x480 frame.
I will try exporting the movie from my editor with another codec. Any other suggestions for fixing my LSD video problem?

No clever ideas - sorry.
Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:
Many possible origins. Most common:
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
• Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK
• Program miss-match: iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4 - is OK
iMovie pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named: com.apple.iMovie.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iMovie.

The text in FCP has no black background. You put it on top of whatever you want and the background is transparent.

Video clips lost its sound when burned from idvd6

HELP! I created a 55 min. imovie and when I burn it using idvd6 some of the clips loose their sound completely. The clips play in preview mode both in imovie and idvd. It's after its burned and played on my TV where the sound is gone on only some of the sclips. On others it's fine.
The clips came from VHS tape dumped on to a Hi 8 tape and then imported through a firewire into imovie. But again I stress some of these VHS clips play just fine. Any ideas? I need this for a High School Graduation party (which is going to be the main entertainment) for July 7. Thanx

I've also got same problem. Interestingly enough, background music added to DVDs title page plays OK on the burned CD (everything previews perfectly). However, go to 'play' the burned DVD, and while the video is there, the audio tracks are silent. Source material is an iMove project, and audio tracks are all AIFF files.
Also tried physically burning the DVD with Disk Utility. DVD burns OK, but on playback (both on home stereo DVD player, and on Mac), title slide and background music works fine, but after selecting to play the movie, the audio tracks are all gone... only silence This is with burning directly from iDVD, or by saving the project as an img file, and then burning it to DVD via Disk Utility.
Any clues appreciated!

It does, under certain circumstances. If you are playing music and lock the phone or it locks on its own, when you wake it up, the album art will show. When I take a video on photobooth, the backround disappears. Help?

I set it up so there is me with a sunset behnd me. If I take a picture, then it comes out fine. If i want to take a video of me with a backround, then after about 2 seconds the background disappears. Help? I tried restarting it but it did not help. Please be thorough. Thanks!

I purchased iLife for the ability to burn to a 3rd party DVD burner with iDVD6. I can't for the life of me figure how to burn to the 3rd party burner. Please help.

I'm suffering a similar problem with iDVD6 in OSX.3.9 on my G4 Dual 800. I've recently reported it earlier in another thread (below) which hasn't been answered. It takes many hours (aboukt six) to burn to a disk mage and appears OK but when I try to burn to a disk with either iDVD or Toast it fails. In the latter case with Toast I get a part burn, thus ensuring a spoilt disk ! On top of that, the burn indication line in the burn box is static and the spinning beach ball of death is ever present so I have to use Force Quit.
Clicking on the original saved prog from which iDVD has burned to a disk image I can get the FCP timeline with its full prog ....
I need the system in X.3.9 to be fully operational with iDVD6 so that my grandson can learn with it.
In the MacPro, with the same film content edited in FCP and similaly saved, I can get a complete burn with no hesitation, using a fraction of the time quoted above.
Completely bemused. I'd appreciate a solving of this one too which may be of help to the originator of this post as well as myself. Please !
