No black on Photosmart 6515

HP computer running Vista
problem:  no black suddenly.  all other colors OK. MIght have had some earlier black spottiness issues, but this failure was sudden.  changed the cartridge with HP new black cartridge.  have reset printer.  went to factory defaults. clean printhead several times. when I run alignment test, it says cartidge alignment is not "optimal" but OK to proceed.  I did not waste the ink.  ideas?

The solution I linked to is the page specific to the Photosmart 6515.   Those are the steps most likely to solve the problem for you.  It includes steps for ensuring the vent is clear.   That's covered in the document in the link.  Did you already try that step?  The last solution would be to check to see if your printer is still in warranty and service or replace the printer.

  • Temporary work around solution to no black print Photosmart 6515

    After exhaustive research I am passing on a work around that actually got the black back:  change your 6515 driver to a Photosmart 3300 driver. No color, but it prints black now.  If anyone has a driver that works better please let me know!

    The black ink used in the Photosmart 6515 is pigmented and not compatible with photo paper.  Do you have photo paper selected in the Photosmart 3300 driver settings?  In this case it would appear black is printing but the printer will actually use the dye based color inks to mix and make "black".
    I see from your other thread that you have gone through the standard troubleshooting steps and black is not printing properly on your test pages.  I will ask to have one of the HP Support folks step into this thread, they may have other alternatives.

  • Photosmart 6515 Wont Print Black Ink

    I too am having the same problem as everyone else.  I have had 3 printer from HP and always bragged about how good they are...All of a sudden 2 of the 3 went bad...the HP 6515 wont print the black ink, as well as the  Photosmart B209.
    I spent over $100 on ink for both of these and they wont print...I tried all the little suggestions.
    This will be my last HP when the new one I purchased a few months back goes out.  I think that is why they are $100 machines...they only last 1 year and you have to go buy a new one...
    Very dissapointed!!!

  • Photosmart 6515 doesn't print black ink after installing new HP cartridges

    I have read multiple topics on this very issue. I have followed all recommendations posted by the support staff responding. It started out as printing the black in streaks. Multiple system print head cleanings did not work. Now all of the sudden, there is no black printing. Ensured the print cartridge were vented properly, ran the clean function approximately 6 times. Checked warranty and of course it's expired. I would really like to get this resolved. Tired of buying a disposable printer every 2 years.
    I live in southeastern Virginia.

    I am having the same problems with the photosmart 6515. Put in new cartridge and now will no longer print black. Tried everything suggested. Nothing works. I am frustrated and disappointed in this product.
    BTW - I live in the U.S., in Virginia ... and I am a lawyer and am thinking seriously of a class action lawsuit after seeing how many hundreds of people are having this SAME problem with no solution from HP.

    Hi,
    Everytime I swap out my printer cartridges, I get an error that one of my cartridges appear to be missing or damaged. I can get the error message to switch cartidges, it may say black first...but then I pull them out and put in yellow last and then it says the yellow has a probem.
    I can not run any diagnostics or printer head cleaning as the main screen on my printer has the error message that I can not get beyond.
    I have manually cleaned the contact points as well,
    any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreicated.

    I noticed your post about the cartridge errors you're seeing on your Photosmart 6515. It sounds to me like you have tried the necessary troubleshooting steps for this issue, and I would suggest looking over the guide I posted for you below to make sure all of the steps have been attempted. If the problem continues, your best bet would be to call us directly to discuss your printer options with HP from there.

  • Custom page sizes for Photosmart 6515

    Just unpacked a Photosmart 6515. Running on old xp desktop computer.
    My main item I print is 5.5"x8" but the custom option is grayed out. went to properties through the main printers/faxes set up and no option there either to set up custom sizes.  
    Is there seriously no option to print custom sizes? im not asking for boarderless. and all other hps I have had have always let me easliy set up this size. 
    Down to the wire for Christmas, don't want to have to return it and start over.

    I was able to fool the printer by changing my paper size for the document to an A4 (actual size is 5.8" x 8.3").  Did some test printing on a scrap cut to 5.5 x 8.5 to see how it printed.  Tweeked the layout a little and got it to do what I wanted.  Would probably work for your 5.5 x 8 as long as you are not printing edge to edge.
    Hope this helps.  I've NEVER had a printer that did not allow a custom size.  NOT HAPPY about the lack of feature.  If anyone can tell me how to put in a custom size for this printer model, PLEASE POST IT!

  • Printing photos from the HP Photosmart 6515- won't pick up the photo paper

    I am trying to print photos from my HP Photosmart 6515. I have loaded the photo paper as the videos show, but the printer does not want to pick up the photo paper. I keep getting an error messge that says I am out of paper. If I put regular paper back into the printer, it will print on the regular paper, but not the photo paper. What am I doing wrong?

    I understand you are getting an 'Out of Paper' error when trying to pick up photo paper on your Deskjet 3515. I would like you to go ahead start troubleshooting An 'Out of Paper' Message Displays on the Control Panel and the e-All-in-One Does Not Pick Up Paper ....

  • Photosmart 6515 disables scanner from 1 computer wired to router.

    Photosmart 6515 disables scanner from 1 desktop wired to a wireless router. Wireless laptops are fine. Computer won't load web pages while scanner is disabled. Can only enable it again by restarting the computer.  If I choose USB connection from printer to desktop then the 6515 is not web enabled.  Reloaded printer software & connection wizard. Ran HP Print and Scan Doctor with no errors being found. Windows XP operating system. No changes except  Photosmart C700 to 6515 printer. Disabled firewall & problem persists.

    OK, thanks for that.  Let's leave the USB cable disconnected for this experiment.
    Lets set a static IP AND an external DNS for the pritner:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS. You can choose another external DNS if you wish.
    - Click 'Apply'.
    Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.

  • Printing photos on HP Photosmart 6515 from HP Photocreat​ions

    I created a Christmas Collage Print on HP Photocreations.  However, when I try to print on my HP Photosmart 6515 it will not allow me to print on 5x7 photo paper.  Can I do this, or am I limited to printing on paper only?
    Is there a way to save a jpg of the image and print it that way?  I've spend several hours trying to trouble shoot and am frustrated.  Thanks!

    Sorry, I have to say I have never used Photocreations, but are you saying it doesn't give you the option to use the system print dialog (which would give you the option to select a paper size from a long list including 5x7), and it let you create 5x7 collage but not print 5x7?
    Do you have the hp driver installed? Which OS are you working on?

  • Photosmart 6515 prints in any color but black

    I replaced all the ink cartridges and I don't get any black ink. I have tried removing and reinstalling the black cartridge, installing another black replacement and running the clean heads process. Is it likely that the problem will be solved by replaceing the printhead?
    I viewed the video for replacing the head. It looks pretty simple, but the demo printer was a different model and access doesn't seem as easy on the 6515 model.

Please do not attempt to replace the printhead, instead please complete all of the steps in the following document; Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages.   • Photosmart 6515 wont print black properly

    I am having issues getting this printer to print every line.  I have cleaned and tryed to align the printhead over a dozen times with no improvement.  The cartridges are new i just used up the setup ones that came with the printer.  It hasnt even printed 100 pages yet but is out of waranty.  From what i have read this is a common issue.  What now?

  • Streaky printing with new XL black cartridge (Photosmart 7520)

    I installed a new HP XL black cartridge in the Photosmart 7520 about 10 days ago.  Today the black and white text printing I mostly do started becoming unreadable - streaky, smudged, faint - even though the ink level report shows about 3/4 full for black (of course the report itself printed with streaks, etc.) I removed and re-inserted the black cartridge to make sure it was seated properly (it was and it is) and then I ran the clean cartridges function on the printer. The print quality report came back looking good (including alignment) except that the black area was streaky. After getting this print quality report, I tried printing text again. The first one page document printed somewhat streaky and with erratic faint areas; the second time I printed it, it was almost unreadable. Any suggestions?

  • Yellow printing no black HP Photosmart 8250

    Hi.  I've purchased new cartridges, recalibrated the printer (still prints gree and yellow only) did diagnostic tests (said everything was fine) , turned off the printer --HP Photosmart 8250-- and back on and still it won't print in black.  Even the Extended self test diagnostic pages are unreadable--in super light yellow ink--but it's a brand new black (and all) cartridges, and yes they are HP cartridges.  Please help!  Thx!
