No black print on Illustrator CS2

Using Mac OS 10.6.2, Snow Leopard, Illustrator CS2 won't print black using either CMYK or RBG.  The color is gray/blue.  No problem when printing same on Photoshop CS2.

Thank you for your reply.
My printer is a Canon Pixma 610  which printed black Illustrator documents fine before I upgraded my Mac OS from  Leopard to Snow Leopard.
I printed a selection using CMYK from Menu>File>Document Color Mode and the  printing was gray with a touch of blue.
I printed a selection using RGB from Menu>File>Document Color Mode and the  printing was gray with a touch of blue.
In "preferences for Appearance of Black" I used the default, "Display All Blacks as Rich Black", then after hearing from you, I tried switching to "Display All Blacks Accurately" with the same blue/grey print-out.
Any more suggestions?
Thank you,
Ronnie Rudolph

  • Printing crooked from Illustrator CS2

When I print from Illustrator CS2, from my Mac OS X, on my HP All in One Printer the document prints crooked on the page. The printer is brand new (I bought it two weeks ago.) I checked to see if other applications were printing crooked too: Word prints fine, Adobe Photoshop prints fine. Any suggestions on what the problem might be, and how to fix it?

So I have narrowed it down to something PS is doing to the file on output. Even when I output a PDF from the same PS file I get the haloed fonts. When I recreate the same art in InDesign or Illustrator the fonts are razor sharp.
    Weird.

  • Why Does Illustrator CS2 print Page Information Backwards & Garbled?

We just upgraded my comptuer & had to reinstall my CS2 suite. Im using Windows XP and my problem is occuring in Illustrator CS2.
When I check off the "Page Information" box in the Marks & Bleeds printing preference it previews onscreen as it should print. However when I print, the page information prints backwards & the characters are all overlapping so its all garbled and illegible.
Does anyone have a clue how to correct this? I've not been able find anything in my searches.
Prior to my upgrade, this was never a problem.
    Thank you.

Neither CorelDRAW nor Adobe Illustrator are PDF file editors. The only PDF files that CorelDRAW can reliably and successfully open, edit, and/or print are PDF files created directly by CorelDRAW. Likewise, the only PDF files that Adobe Illustrator can reliable and successfully open, edit, and/or print are PDF files saved directly from the same or later version of Adobe Illustrator, assuming the “retain editability” option was specified.
The only safe program to open and print all PDF files from is Adobe Acrobat. Alternatively, a PDF file may be safely printed from a print system that natively RIPs PDF.
The fact that your “printer” is attempting to print your PDF files via CorelDRAW or even Adobe Illustrator demonstrates that your “printer” is very sorely lacking in knowledge of PDF workflow. I most strongly recommend that you find a better-educated “printer” with reliable workflows.

  • Illustrator CS2 can't open new file with network printer installed

It seems that with my network printer set up I can't do much with Illustrator, I can't open new files and I can't print without opening up the printer setup menu in Windows.
Photoshop CS btw, I can't open it at all.
I take the network printer offline and everything is fine, except then I don't have a printer.
    Windows XP SP2
    Illustrator CS2 12.0.1
    Any fix for this?
    Thanks,
    David

Creating a Dummy Generic printer fixed the issues of opening a new file in Illustrator and being able to open PS at all.
However Illustrator is still taking several minutes to print something as simple as a test circle.
The menu I was referring to is Printers & Faxes under control panel, though I realized later that may not have had anything to do with it. It may have simply been coincidental timing. I opened the P&F window about 10 minutes after hitting print and just after opening P&F the print window popped up. It simply may have been taking 10 minutes for the print window to open.
With the network printer set up as the default printer if I try to open Photoshop a window opens but just stays a grey blank screen, no credits box, nothing. Then if after a few minutes I hit ctrl+alt+del it says Photoshop not responding.
What I was doing to take the printer offline was to completely delete the network printer from Printers & Faxes.
I'll see if they have an updated set of drivers, but I think I have the latest ones, as I updated them a month or so ago.
    Thanks,
    David

  • Odd frames when printing transparency PSD on black background on Illustrator CS4

I don't know why but any PSD file that have transparency in it and placed on an illustrator document, printed with those frames around it (see example JPEG file that  I added). I tried to print directly to the printer and got those frames. I tried to create a postscript before and then PDF throe the distiller and still, the PDF print those frames. You can see the PDF that I added and examine it. You will see under the "output preview" that the parameters of the black background is the same around.
    What is that?!

I can't use RGB profile if I want to be precise with my works.
I found the problem and how to fix it.
I think it is a problem with the RIP of the printer. The printer receive vector, raster and transparency object together and needs to flatten to a single image - it doesn't succeed.
So, if I send to the printer from Illustrator, under "Advanced" I use customize pref. by tuning it to all raster and not vector at all the print printed good.
It's so primitive and stupid that with a new printer I still need to do the RIP with the application.

  • Illustrator CS2 Printing Help - Epson R1900

    Hi there,
I've been printing to my Epson R1900 with no problems from  Illustrator CS2 from my Macbook for a year without a problem. I got a  new Macbook, only slightly newer than the last, reinstalled Illustrator,  and now my print quality is in the gutter. I've tried to adjust the  print settings, which I never had to do before, and it's still very  poor. What I am printing are just graphics I've drawn on-screen. No  images. In the Output section of Print Presets, I can't adjust anything  except Right Reading or Left Reading. Can anyone help? I don't know what  changed. All of the printer drivers are the same and are installed. The  strokes of lines look pixelated, as does the text. I know I could do  "Create Outlines" to sharpen it, but I never had to do that before, and I  want to be able to edit the text later.
    Hopefully someone can  help.
    Thank you for your time.
    Keli

You upgraded your OS as well and that is what has changed you will not be able to print from the epson R1900 with smooth curved lines or smooth paths.
Simply not possible in the newer OS above 10.5.
This is what you must do, Print from Acrobat or if you wish rasterize the art and print that.
Or save it a psd rasterized and print that from Photoshop.
    Or purchase a RIP software.

  • PDFs saved in Excel, Opened in Illustrator CS2

I've had two issues to tackle, but recently figured out a solution for one of them. My other issue regards overprint.
I'm working on a 2-color publication. It seems that when i open a PDF saved in Excel, or paste an excel document, into an Illustrator (CS2) document, all my black is not marked to overprint, and this is an issue with my printer. Should be an easy fix, but these excel files contain charts with bars and other lines on them that break up into separate lines (and strokes) once opened in Illustrator. In order for me to mark the black with overprint, I have to use the Direct Selection Tool and select every single piece of black art and check "overprint fill" or "overprint stroke" or both! It's tedious work that I don't really have the patience nor the time to deal with. Is there anything I can do to avoid this? Anything I can do in Excel while printing to PDF or in Illustator to help alleviate this mess??

Select > Same > Fill Color
and Select > Same > Stroke Color

  • Illustrator CS2 Doesn't Start For User on Windows 2000

I've recently installed Adobe Illustrator CS2 on a Windows 2000 system. When I start the product when logged in as the Administrator, it starts fine. However, when I start the product logged in as a user, it goes thru the startup process, displays all of the various tool windows, and then before it gets to the first time window, it just closes. No error messages, nothing in the Windows system or application log, it just closes the same windows it just opened and then exits.
I've tried setting the permissions on the folders listed in the Windows Rights KB entry, with no effect. I've tried installing a postscript printer, setting full rights on it, and using it as the default for the user.
Does anyone know what file right, user priviledge, or other feature might be causing the problem? Thanks.

I wasn't aware that it required Power User rights. This is somewhat of a high security environment, and that can be difficult.
Do you, by chance, know what features of Power User rights are needed? I can perhaps grant those to this user, and make it work.
Do you think it is having a problem accessing portions of the registry, or files in certain folders, or something else?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Can't print the Illustration

I am running Illustrator CS3 with the 13.02 update under Windows Vista Home Premium service pack 1.
Whatever I try to print, even just one square, will not print on my HP Color Laserjet 2700n or my Epson Stylus Pro 3800. I get a message saying "Can't print the illustration". Both printers will print from Photoshop CS3, Lightroom 2.1 (release candidate) and Acrobat reader 8.1.2. My laptop running the same version of Illustrator under Windows XP pro service pack 2. will print fine on the HP printer over my Wireless network.
I have read the Faqs , searched the forum and the Internet and spent many hour trying to solve this problem and I would be really grateful for and help you could give me. In addition I have reset the preference file and uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator.
As far as Photoshop is concerned I am an advanced amateur but in Illustrator I am a novice.
The PC is a HP m9056uk with 3GB of ram and an Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz CPU. It has two 500GB SATA hard drives. All device drivers are, to the best of my knowledge, up to date.

    Hi,
I have many problems of printing with the re-installation of the Illustrator CS2 after format my computer, a portable HP pavilion. I try two printers : First, a Canon S600, ( old printer ) and my new one a HP all in one series, C3180.
For theses two printer, Illustrator don't want to print anything simple like a red rectangle. The message says: ''Can't print the illustration ''. Before formating, the old printer S600 work like a charm with this software. I don't understand. I look for new drivers on the S600. I find it and install it but the problems is still there...
Do anybody can help me ? I tried some solutions that I read on the net but nothing work today.
    Thanks

  • Problems with image after flattening transparency in illustrator cs2

Hi,Could someone please help me.Im using illustrator cs2 with windows xp.
The problem i have is that after flattening any image using transparency
masks or opacity i can see thin broken white lines in the image.
They appear where the opacity masks are,or where they cross in the image.
I haven't been using illustrator for long and am not sure if it's something
    i'm doing incorrectly or not.
Also if i select all the paths after flattening i can see double the paths
that were there before which run along the unsightly white lines in the image.
Please could someone shed some light on this,it's driving me crazy.
    Thanks, Cal

Hi,I spent weeks trying to sort it out. Apparently it's unavoidable. I read somewhere that the white lines wouldn't appear when printed but i saved one of the images as a jpg an the lines were clearly visible.
Its because when the transparency in the image goes through the flattening process to enable printing it breaks the image into atomic regions and the white lines are the gaps in between.
People seem to think it's completely normal and acceptable but i don't . I think it's a load of old rubbish.
The way round it is to use stuff that doesn't use transparency like the gradient mesh and all that.
I can't be bothered with all that so i just save the unflattened image as a large png or jpg file for printing.
I'm no expert but if the facility to use transparency is there surely it should save perfectly after flattening. The whole things a real pain.
    Take care , Cal

  • Can't Print this illustration

Okay, first time in donkey's years I've had this 'Can't Print the illustration' window - brand new CS5 suite, brand new computer - 4 days old (Dell, 36bit - would prefer a Mac but there you go).
History - large format packaging file - 600mm x 1200mm. Line drawings. Black and one spot (Pantone) color only. Job needed original English version converted to Chinese language. This had to be done on an older 'chinese' PC in Illustrator 4 with correct Chinese fonts. But after the translator did her job, I needed to return it to CS5 on the Dell to make alterations. Chinese fonts converted to outlines for transfer. Once alterations done, tried to print and got the silly can't print message.
prints fine from Dell in PDF format.
prints fine from Dell in jpeg format.
prints fine form old 'chinese' PC in Illustrator 4 format with either outlined fonts or fonts.
havent had any problems printing anything else in CS5, just this one job.
The only thing I can think of is that there was a problem when converting the Chinese font to outlines there were too many points created and either Illustrator or the printer cracked the irrites.
Any help on how I can work out how to fix this.
...although I have been using Macs/PC's and all Adobe programs for over 25 years I HATE trying to figure out this stuff and prefer to just be an end user without trying to figure out why a perfectly reasonable request goes odd.
    thanks in advance.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    Could you share
Sadly, no. Files are copyright design sensitive - but thank you. I wonder if it is because they were originally CS4 files? hmmm. Not really sure. What I will have to do is recreate the same artwork or similar from start with the same brushes and fonts and see if that still causes a problem. I have yet to narrow down if the problem is coming from CS5 or from my printer and/or printer driver. I was assured it was all updated and compatible... but there you go.
If I can reproduce the problem with a 'generic' type art I will post it here for advice - you have all be very helpful already.
these things always happen when up upgrade everything all at once It is only Day 4 and overall I am happy with new CS5. just the printing issue is a pain.

  • Any experience with Illustrator CS2 and MBP?

    Hi Everyone!
I read a lot about the performance of Photoshop CS2 with Rosetta, but I would like to know how the Illustrator CS2 works with the new MacBook Pro.
    Thanks for your comments!
    Gus

I work in prepress at a commercial printer. I have been testing out my MBP 1.8GHz with all CS1 and CS2 apps as well as Quark Xpress 6.5. I also only have 1GB of ram at the moment (second 1GB will arrive today). Anyway all the apps run slower than on my G5 Dual 1.8GHz. That may be due to the slower hard drive speed and lower amount of ram. Most apps take a little longer to launch, but once up and running perform just fine. Acrobat 6 and ID CS2 take the longest to launch. I haven't had any crashes or kernal panics with any of the apps. Quark also works well. Still a bit slow, but very fuctional once up and running. Also Citrix for Mac works as does ApogeeX client 1.27. Overall I have had a better experience with this machine than DC 2.0 GHZ G5. I had kernal panics from the beginning the MBP has had no problems so far. If you need to use a MBP fro serious design or prepress upgrade as much as possible. ie 7200RPM drive and 2GB of ram.

  • WinXP and Vista memory usage with Illustrator CS2 - is Vista winning?

    Dear forum.
I have an AI-template file where I insert some very large PNG files into it, modifies the template a bit and then I print the the resulting document in PS-format. The PNG files may be as large as 100 MB (24-bits, approx. 100 mil. pixels in total). It appears that while a Vista-based machine has no problem loading one or even two copies of these huge files into memory, a WinXP-based machine can't even load a single file into memory. Instead, I a dialog box with the message: "Could not read the file because the plug-in could not understand this file". Is it really a faulty plug-in or is it just CS2's way of saying "not enough memory" in a quirky way?
All in all, I would like to hear whether someone has the same experience with Vista, ie. it seems to be better at memory management or better at allocating memory for Illustrator CS2, enabling it to load large PNG files.
The specifications of the WinXP-based machine:
    Pentium 4 2.6 GHz
    3 GB RAM
Virtual memory 4095 MB in a physically separate drive from the OS disk
All Visual Effects are turned off
Has Illustrator CS2, Adobe Acrobat 7 and Distiller installed (and a few auxilliary programs)
The specifications of the Vista-based machine:
    Dell OptiPlex 740SF
    AMD x2 5000 (2.6 GHHz)
    2 GB RAM (667 MHz, 2 x 1 GB)
    250 GB SATA disk
    Windows Vista
Adobe Creative Suite 2 Standard + Adobe Creative Suite 3
    Thanks!

    Hi, everyone
I got a new t440p 20ANA00UHH (8GB RAM, win8 64bits) about one week ago. It works really well, but its memory usage  confused me. In Task Manager, the "Performance" option shows memory is 68% (5.4G in use), but "Users" option shows memory usage 66% (1019.5M in use). Is that normal ? I just opened some websites and word files.
