No Blue Ray in CS4 Media Encoder or burn to disc in Encore
Hello everyone.
I'm using CS4 on Vista 64 Dual AMD @ 3.0 with 8 gigs memory and 4x WD 750 gig HD's on Raid 1
ATI 4890
I had burned previously several Mpeg2 BluRay discs with menus and now have lost that capability it seems.
I have had some problems in the past and have reloaded Vista 64 as well as this time.
The media enocder just stops nearly imediately after the que with an exclaimation point
on the file attempting either a BluRay 264 or Mpeg2 BluRay conversion from mt2s raw from the camera
file, from the hard drive.
As well, after an edit of mt2s files on the editor and exporting to Encore, setting it all up with a
menu etc. It will rendor a project until its time to write or burn and then I get an error about access
and a code 12 error. I'm using an LG GGW-H20L BlueRay recorder/player. Which has a problem
doing dual layer writing with it's latest firmware installed.
I would like to be able to edit, menu and burn my mt2s files to BluRay however after reading here
and other places recently, it sounds like I need Scenerist or something now to be able to achieve
this goal.
Has something change most recently to take away what I have been doing or what I still can do?
I only make one or two Blue Rays of the same. I'm not into replicating mass quanities of the same.
I would like to have the better picture the AVCHD camera outputs as mt2s files burned onto a Blue Ray
disc. It looks better anyway to me than the Mpeg2 BlueRay files.
Anyone have any ideas?
Gratefully appreicated. Bob.
Regular DVD's look great and work just fine but once in a while, someone wants a BlueRay. Impression is all I can
say about that.
I don't do BluRay... but...
When I want to create a single layer DVD I simply click the Encore icon and work (actually, I go to ISO and use Imgburn to write, for greater control)
When I want to create a dual layer DVD I have found that I MUST right click the Encore icon and select Run as Administrator
This is in spite of the fact that I am the only user of my computer and only have one, Administrator account
This problem appears to be "something" about Win7's rights management (this problem, from my reading, started with Vista)

Blu-ray says capacity too big when burning DVD Rom Folder Encore CS4
I have tried 3 times now to burn a Blu-ray Image file with a DVD rom Content Folder. The Blu-ray Image size is 45.90gb and the content folder is 1.6gb. The disk is a Sony DL 50gb Blu-ray. I have not tried to burn direct to disk because cost of Blu-rays. I am using Encore CS4. Is it that you cannot make an image file with DVD-rom for DL Blu-rays. Is there a number preset by Adobe for image file size for DL Blu-ray. Please help
45.90 GB on your hard drive and 1.6 GB on your hard drive add up to 47.60 GB.
In computer GB, (47.60 x 2^30) that's over 51 billion bytes. Sony and other blank media manufacturers report the capacity of their blank discs in normal GB (50 x 10^9), or 50 billion bytes.
Your project is too big to fit on the blank media that you have. -
Does The New CS4 Media Encoder Seem Slow?
I selected some B-Roll that was shot in P2 1080i and brought it into a standard definition project. I scaled it to about 44% and sped up one timelapse segment by about 900%. The resulting length was about 8 minutes.
Transcoding this 8 minute sequence into 720x480 NTSC With the CS4 Media Encoder is taking over 3 hours! This is on a system with an Intel Q6600 processor.
Has anyone else noticed that the new Media Encoder seems slower? I don't think it uses existing render files like previous versions of Premiere."DV project. If you have three clips AND THE 2ND ONE is color corrected then you do a 'preview render' that 2nd clip is rendered to dv so it will play real time in your timeline. Then when you render out to DVD clip 2 is rendered yet again to Mpeg-2. It has been rendered twice, it a second generation image unlike CLIP 1 AND 3 WHICH are still first generation before the Mpeg encoding"
Sorry typing faster than my brain. Sorry trying to get work done and help people got the better of my fingers brain. The above is corrected with the corrected in CAPS.
In a nutshell when you use preview files your telling the computer to use files that have already lost a generation to make your edit faster.
If you edit DV the preview renders the effect (or whatever) to whatever is set in the sequence files. So a new DV file is made, which is rendered into an MPEG (or quicktime, Blu-ray whatever).
"But if you are saying that re-render renders the already rendered preview clip, I believe that you may be in error. I thought re-render ignored the previews and looked to the source file(s) again. Am I wrong?"
Yes your wrong because your assuming the preview render was done in the format your outputing in AME. If re-render 'ignored the previews and looked for the source file(s) again' there wouldn't be any render to 're-render'.
The Preview render renders a new file based on your media codec (dv to dv, HDV to i-frame. dvcpro to dvcpro). It has no way of knowing what your final setting in AME are going to be. So preview files are double rendered. -
CS4 Media Encoder doesn't render Quicktime at all
The CS4 Media Encoder will render H.264 and FLV, but doesn't render any form of Quicktime at all.
The Queue loads the project, pretends to render, but does not show progress frames. Seconds later (way too early!) there is a green checkmark that the render completed successfully. The log file looks successful with essentially the same content as for H.264 and FLV.
For example this log file shows a 1-minute sequence "rendered" in 30 seconds -- normally takes 3 minutes -- and no .mov was created.
10/29/2008 7:09:16 AM : Queue Started
- Source File: C:\DOCUME~1\MARATH~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\happyValleyBeijingMoreHighlights_5.prproj
- Output File: C:\Documents and Settings\Marathon Runner\Desktop\china\finished\happy valley beijing\more highlights\Sequence 01.mov
- Preset Used: NTSC DV
- Video: 720x480, 29.97 [fps], Lower, Quality 100
- Audio: 48000 Hz, Stereo, 16 bit
- Bitrate: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
- Encoding Time: 00:00:00
10/29/2008 7:09:45 AM : File Successfully Encoded
10/29/2008 7:09:46 AM : Queue Stopped>always save the project before you export
Very good advice.
I would also say, save your project after any edit that you feel you can't afford to lose.
Cheers

Like many others, I have encountered a problem with CS4 Media Encoder upon start up. It quits unexpectedly.
I have a Quad-Core Intel Xeon Mac running 10.6.2.
Here are the problem details if someone understands it:

I have tried removing the ".pref" file without improvement. On another thread there is mention of removing an "Watch folder info.xml" file, which I can't find on a Mac.
Would appreciate any help
KurtMe too. Sometimes it works. Sometimes, even the smallest file will crash the ENTIRE COMPUTER and it will force restart itself. I have tried it with h.264 and MPEG2-DVD, and both have crashed it.
I thought it might be overheating my MacBook Pro, so I have been watching the temperatures. The CPU gets almost to 200f. The process viewer shows encoder process average around 167%.
It is unfortunate because when it does work, it actually makes very pristine encodes.
I also tried updating the licensing through a FLEX update, as the console was reporting the same message over and over again. That message has stopped, but the crashing has not.
My fans run constantly when watching training videos on Adobe's site, and the computer never crashes. So I assume it is not a heat problem. That said, I don't know whether the CPU or the GPU are responsible for video playback. In other words, if the GPU does playback, and the fans go on, it isn't getting hot enough to shutdown. If the CPU does does playback, and is causing the fans to go on, I would think that the computer would shut down just as it does when Media Encoder is encoding and causing the CPU to get hot.
At this point my hunch is that Media Encoder is causing some sort of kernel panic, causing the computer to restart. But this is just a stab in the dark. -
Does anyone know if CS5 Media Encoder Presets are compatible with CS4 Media Encoder?
http://blogs.adobe.com/ktowes/2010/10/new-encoding-settings-for-multiple-screens-using-ado be-media-encoder-cs5.html
ThanksThe solution! :)
Now I only have one of these two folders containing all presets. The "other folder" is a symbolic link to this folder using this tool:
http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/linkshellextension.html
Now it doesn't matter whether I am defining a preset in Premiere or in AME. It works fine!

Premiere CS4 & Media Encoder CS4 didn't work..
i just install Premiere Pro CS4 & Media Encoder CS4..
i finished editing my videos in Premiere, but when i want to encode it in Media Encoder, it says "please verify that adobe premiere is installed in your computer"..
what should i do?
tnx..Welcome to the forum.
Do you have the full-paid version, or the trial?
It sounds like your installation is not complete, or has become corrupted. This is a general CHECKLIST for installing most Adobe programs. Look over it, to see if perhaps you missed something.
If you did everything in the checklist, then I would attempt a Repair Install. Did you install from media, or from a download?
Good luck,

Pro CS4 Media Encoder vs Sorenson Squeeze Quality?
Guys,
When outputting a video to Flash (for this discussion, let's assume Flash V8, medium size.....with the Web as the target audience), does anyone have experience using both PProCS4 Media Encoder and Sorenson Squeeze---being able to comment of the quality of each? Is CS4 Media Encoder doing as good a job (apples to apples) as Sorenson Squeeze would do? For general info, they want SD video in 4:3 ratio.
I've want to provide the best quality video I can to a client who is selling web training for a professional methodology. They are using video to provide additional visual support to their audio segments.
TIA,
jdI purchased Squeeze after the release of CS4, the Adobe Media Encoder was fine in CS3. I noticed after installing CS4 that the end product (usually Quicktime, AVI, Mpeg-2 DVD and BluRay for me) was soft and fuzzy. I dug around various forums and found that many had this issue with the AME in CS4 and saw Sorenson Squeeze highly recommended. It should be noted that I use a Matrox RT.X2 card with my CS3 and now CS4 environment. I now export out an uncompressed i-Frame Matrox AVI and bring it into Squeeze and it works great.
I am finding the same issue in a non-Matrox project. We are doing a spot now that was shot in DVCPRO-HD. The image is gorgeous in PP, however when I use the AME, the resulting file is soft and dull.
Question to anyone who can help. In a non-Matrox project, what can I use to get it into Squeeze? With my Matrox projects, the uncompressed Matrox export bypassed the AME and gave me a clean image to bring into Squeeze. In my current non-Matrox DVCPRO-HD project I tried uncompressed AVI but it reduced my size to 720x480, and it reduced the quality. How do I get my footage out of Premiere and into Squeeze without using the AME?
Thanks,

Windows 7, CS4 Media Encoder freezes when queue starts with sequences from Premiere. However, sequences opened from Media Encoder's "Add Sequence" export fine. Have re-installed (without first un-installing), issue is ongoing. I have several important deadlines fast approaching, please help! Media cache has been cleared (both automatically and manually), computer has been defragged and scanned for disk errors... I am absolutely stumped!
I've checked the anti-virus (I didn't think of that!), but it doesn't seem to make any change.
I've had Window Task Manager running while trying to export, it would seem that the problem occures when PProHeadless.exe opens. If I manually close it right before clicking "Start Queue", AME doesn't freeze until PProHeadless.exe re-starts once more.
Any information on forums regarding PProHeadless.exe seem more to do with an error message, not that the application itself is causing problems. I've tried multiple different sequences, all with different footage, different types of files and all with the same result.
Would a complete reformat or Windows and CS4 be the only answer? I dread the thought but I'm getting desperate. -
CS4 MEDIA ENCODER (not responding) please help...
I'm working with a PC VISTA home premiere 4gb ram, Nvidia gt 220 GPU, dual core, and CS4 MASTER SUITE.
Used PREMIERE PRO CS4 to capture NTSC dv widescreen footage (from DVX100B)
Used CS4 AFTER EFFECTS for GRAIN & TITLE GRAPHICS and rendered each clip as a QUICKTIME (newest version) .MOV animated file.
SAVED RENDERED CLIPS TO a 1TB external hard drive...connected to pc via usb...not esata yet...
IMPORTED RENDERED .MOV files into PREMIERE PRO and EDITED together a nice SEQUENCE just over 3min in length.
EXPORTED TO MEDIA (used serval different export settings with the same result) SEQUENCE FILE PULLS UP IN ENCODER and I click START QUE
and it trys to load then (not responding) freezing MEDIA ENCODER where I have to reboot...due the task manager wont shut it down.
Everything I have tried (Current Updates Installed, Video Card drivers updated, Re installed Premiere Pro, quicktime update, ENCODER update) is not working.
1) Are my .MOV files to large? ( what is a good size for a .mov) they range from 60-500MB
2)I read some forums about debugging and corrupt .dll files (please advise if the makes sense)
3) How do I run a clean script...will that help?
4) I HAVE A BUNCH of audio files .wav and aaf files...in the squence are they loading it down?
and thank you...hope I described the problem well enough.Alirght my ENCODER IS NOT WORKING...a week later...I have compressed my HUGE 50-650mb clips to tiny FLV files...MY CS4 ENCODER cant encode more than 2 clips on the CS4 PPR sEquence...just says status: waiting then I hit >start queue and it freezes >not responding
every once and a while it will unfreeze (2% of the time actually) and encoding a file...

CS4 Media Encoder won't encode!
Hi!
Resently upgraded to CS4 and tried to encode a couple of
video files to FLV for a project, only to discover it did't work!
The media encoder didn't accept any video format, avi, mpeg etc to
be encoded. It accepted FLV files though...It worked flawlessly in
CS3, encoded anything you throwed at it, but not in CS4. Any
clues??quote:

Well, I open up the program by itself or trough flash. Then i
press the add button to find the file or i just drag it in, after
that, a window pops up that says "The file could not be imported".
Thats all, and as i said it doesen't matter what kind of file type
it is, exept FLV. The system i use is a macbook pro. -
CS4 media encoder crashes if On2, 2 pass selected
Hi,
I have tried this with several .mov files of different sizes,
both in pixels and in duration. (from 6 minutes to 5 seconds)
When I encode to F4V everything is fine.
When I encode to FLV with ON2 and 1 pass everything is fine.
When I encode to FLV with ON2 and switch on 2 pass the
progress bar stops at the half way point for a while and then Media
Encoder closes. A zero byte file is left in the directory.
I am using CS4, on windows XP. I have downloaded all updates
for my Adobe products. I have restarted my computer. None of these
things make any difference.
It crashes every time with 2 pass on.
Addition to post.
I have now reinstalled flash pro CS4 and media encoder.
BEFORE checking for and installing any updates I tried encoding a
completely new file and experienced exactly the same crash when set
to ON2 2 Pass.
I then installed all updates again. No change, same crash of
Media Encoder.
MarkHi Mark,
I tried encoding a source mov file to On2 VP6 with 2 pass and
it worked for me for both CBR as well as VBR case. This was on
Windows XP and I have Premiere Pro and AME installed on the system.
If you import the file directly into AME (instead of sending
it via Flash) and then encode, do you still get the crash?
Thanks

CS4 Media Encoder doesn't launch
Have been exporting and rendering files in CS4 for years and for some reason, yesterday, ADOBE Media Encoder stopped launching from the export window of PPRO? I still get the setting box, save box, but when I click okay, nothing happens; ME does not automatically launch. ME is still there, I can bring it up manually, but it doesn't have the export file in it.
Anyone know why this would drop out suddenly? No updates/reinstalls, or weirdness from the day it worked to the day it didn't?
Plus, anyone know of a way of getting a PPROJ into ME without going from PPRO? A short cut, if you will, of dropping a project into an already open ME?
I have searched around for answers to this but have not found a similar issue (I did not have CS3 before, so that whole thread doesn't seem to help me)
thanks everyone,
Planetarium GuyI am afraid I never did get any answers. I uninstalled everything (I have the whole suite) and reinstalled it.
Then, when I wanted to export from PPRO, AME did launch but didn't have the sequence auto loaded in (as it used to); it just came up and I still had to manually load in the sequence. After I did all the updates on the reinstall, even that stopped happening; AME stopped launching automatically.
So I have been manually bringing up AME and manually loading in the sequences and then opening the settings from AME to configure the export settings I want (as it doesn't remember what you had saved in the export window of PPRO).
I wish I had an answer for you, but it looks like this work-a-round is what I will using for the near future,
Au revoir,

CS4 Media Encoder- Two Pass CBR settings?
I have come across something strange in the stand alone Adobe Media Encoder CS4 (Windows and Mac) when attempting to encode an FLV with on2vp6.
There is an option under CBR that allows for a two pass, however it also has the minimum bitrate, maximum bitrate and bitrate variability options. This makes sense for VBR, but why are they there for in CBR? Are they inactive for CBR? Shouldn't they be dimmed? Are you supposed to set to 100% and leave it? Is it a bug? I know H.264 only has one pass, and it acts the same way as FLV/on2vp6 One Pass.
One of the whole points CBR is that you have a defined bitrate with no variation, used predominantly for HTTP Pseudo Streaming or Streaming. I have a bitrate limit imposed on a server, so I add video and audio bitrates together and get the total bitrate and I want a steady stream. With minimum and maximum settings it would vary depending on your content hence the term VBR which seems contradictory to CBR...
Can anyone please shed some light on this?
Thanks in advance.
JonThanks again for the reply. The next question would be, is One Pass CBR then the only true CBR (or best for streaming/pseudo streaming)?
Adobe's Docs skipped right over that (2 Pass and CBR)...seems pretty important, maybe they figure most will just use One Pass for CBR.
The funny thing is you can't find any real references on the web to Two Pass CBR either. Even Google wants me to change it to VBR Two Pass in my searches :-)
The reason I ask is that when we ran Two Pass CBR, it flagged an error on the HTTP Psuedo Stream server (similar to Xmoov PHP) because it exceeded the bitrate limit at a portion of the video (evidentially) and stopped it in its tracks... Unless maybe it was a coincidence but it was tried several times supposedly. I didn't witness this, because we don't have access to the client's Intranet/VPN (long story). I built a JWPlayer/Xmoov PHP setup at our site to replicate, but it doesn't have the bandwidth throttling enabled to test that theory. I will try to run some more tests and post back here if I find the anomaly.
I much prefer VBR 2-Pass anyway for quality but you can't really stream it effectively.

Premiere pro CS4+media encoder CS4 problem encoding to WMV and MOV
Hello,
I am new to CS4. I lurked around the meanders of CS4 help and FAQ. In spite of the large help database I could not find a solution to my issue.
I edited a little movie from shots I took during holidays. I edited in premiere pro cs4 and it is a bit faster than CS3 <yoohoo>
However I want to export the movie as NTSC source to high quality download. In the Expot settings, I wrote a file output of course so it can encode and compile the movie somewhere on my HDD and I did not touch anything in standad NTSC source to high quality download values and tabs. In the end the movie should be around 848 mega.
I press OK, then Media Encoder pops up on screen. my project comes automatically in Media Encoder which is neat so I just had to click on start Queue but here is my problem...
I can wait for 4 hours or more, Media Encoder status states Encoding but nothing moves forward. Elapsed time remains at 00:00:00, Estimated Remaining remains blank.
Although something triggered my attention when I widen Media Encoder Source Name tab. It sounds like my project from Premiere Pro is placed in a temporary folder instead of using the regular save project file folder in ...>adobe>premiere pro>4>sebsofie2010b which strange.
I try to place a picture of my issue and perhaps it will help everyone.
This picture was taken about 1 hour and half after I tried to encode the movie for the fifth time.
The status quotes "Encoding"...
Thanks in advance for any helpHello,
This is Song to an Illiad. I had to change Email address and password as I am switching provider soon.
So Ok to bypass the issue at that time, I simply transfered all files to a jumpdrive and re-did the composition at a friend house. Although my problem persist and Thank you for the Wiki link it was helpful. Sherlock free ware discovered several erronous Codec. Do not ask me why, how, when please. I do not toy around with codecs and all I do is update software but I have several software going from Adobe to Autodesk series as well as Nero Light version that came with my Dvd burner. Should I also mention I play video games when down time permits, as such I updated several time the DirectX software. Beside this, what is it called... Dvix or Xvid, well something like that... prompted me about 2 months ago to update to a newer version which I did. Finally I installed a freeware to export an avi type to another found on Cnet.com a few months ago as the file could be seen in Premiere pro but there were no Audio track seen in premiere while the client gave me his camcorder and I knew there should be an audio track, it was a sort of camcorder that records on a memory sticks which is why the camera was small. It was a canon but nothing more detailed than that. Anyway, I had the camera with no drivers whatsoever and I had a hard time to find the driver for free online which is why I found a freeware or perhaps was it a shareware or a trial (I am not sure), anyway it decoded and re-encoded the movie which it did successfully with lots of image loss quality but it was succesful. I know I deliberatly threw the shareware or trial straight in the garbage once I was done because I do not want this kind of junk on my PC. Perhaps could it be the issue with Media Encoder not able to start?!?!
Here comes a couple of texts Copy/Past & image to describe what Sherlock found

What should I do? Can I just reinstall the codec from my Adobe CS4 Production Suite (Without) creating more issues and problems? It seemed the Wiki hints were helpful to pin point a problem but not always at giving solution.
Thanks in advance,
Seb
P.S: Could Adobe throw a little software to download to ensure all codecs are what they should be like and prompt user to reinstall straight from our Dvds? It would be soo much easier that way.
