No bong sound on start-up

I've had this new MB Pro for a few months. A couple days ago I started it up and no bong sound on start-up. It's not a big deal but I wonder why that would happen and what it means. Could I have disabled it somehow? I don't recall messing around in preferences but maybe some accidental shortcut from flailing fingers mighta.

Have you used headphones or external speakers?
Resetting the PRAM may help. Info here:

  • Making a bonging sound at start up

As of yesterday morning when starting up my iMac it highlights the HD drive and then makes this random bonging sound like a repeating drum sound. I press the escape button and that does the trick. Then I can be using the computer for a while and then it suddenly starts again.
    Does anyone have a clue?
    Thanks

try if _*resetting the System Management Controller SMC*_ helps.

  • Disabling the "Bong" sound at start up

Is there anyway to disable/turn off the "Bong" sound from playing when I turn on the computer. Or at least control the volume.

  • Start up 'BONG' sound

    Hi,
Is there anyway I can stop my Imac PC annoying 'Bong' sound every time I start it up? it is so loud and wakes the family. I run 10.6 OXS

    Hi,
This really helped. I do run from the ext speaker out to my amp and near field studio monitors. I copied this from the link you gave me to help others.

    You need to make sure you have NO external speakers hooked up to your Mac when muting. Your startup chime depends on the volume you set when no external audio devices are connected. Unplug speaks, mute, plug speaks back in. Now try. }
I did what it suggested and it worked. I just hit the 'mute' button on keyboards before final close down and when i restart, no annoying 'Bong'....result!
I understand the arguments for having it there but I also believe in not being forced to have something I don't want-too much 'nanny' state. I'm an Adult and I have the ability to make an informed decision .
    Thanks for the link.
i did look at psstt but the read me file attached said it don't always work. Thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate it.
kind regards to all for your replies /suggestions

  • When i press power button i hear several click sounds before start up?

When I press power button I hear several click sounds before start up begins. Shortly after Apple logo appears it clicks off.

Which MacBook Pro do you have? If it has an optical drive then that is just the optical drive checking if there is a disk inserted.

Test after taking each of the following steps. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly."
    3. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    4. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    5. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    6. In some cases, the problem has been resolved by repairing permissions on the startup volume.
    7. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    8. Reinstall OS X.

  • How to eliminate the "Ping" sound when starting and stopping videoing

How to eliminate the "ping" sound when starting and stopping a video on iPhone.  Thanks.

I asked my friends on Facebook and one came up with the answer... I just had to flip the little "ring-silent switch" on the side of the iPhone to cut the "Pinging" sound!  There's probably another way but this works!

  • Sound & slide starting together

Can't seen to get the sound file starting with the second slide at the same time. On the required click, only the music starts and when I click again it stops but the slides start.
Tried all the combination's I can think of, but to no avail.
    Any ideas, please.
    Keith Woolford

How have you set up the sound file? The best way to do this is to drag the sound file onto the slide, and use a build in to control when it plays.

    Hello Stacey,
What all devices do you have connected?
It sounds like a Ground loop... voltage leaking somewhere.

  • Hearing the bong sound

Does anyone know how I can hear the Macs bong sound at startup through my speakers?

It can't be done. The internal speaker is selected by the sound system at startup. Any external speakers are used after a sucessful POST. This a simple diagnostics feature, and cannot be changed without hacking the mini's firmware.
