No bookmarks allowed!

I cannot get Safari to save my bookmarks. I can drag and drop a URL onto the bookmark bar, but I cannot use the menu item ("add bookmark"). I go through the motions and I think Safari is adding the bookmark, but it is not actually being saved.
Can someone offer a possible fix?
Thanks in advance for any help with this!

Hi Marie
Would I update with the combo-update right over the current update or must I uninstall anything first?
You'll update over the current version. Do not use the computer while the update is running.
Safari 3 offers a number of new features, including Inline find (highlights specific search words on a page), better use of the Spotlight panel in the Bookmarks Manager, resizeable text areas in text boxes similar to the one used for replies in these forums, and faster page loading/rendering. More information may be found here.
If for any reason you altered Safari in version 2, then the upgrade to version 3 could be corrupted. If you have problems opening Safari 3, simply create a new thread in this forum or use the forum's search feature to find the easy remedy - "reinstall Safari 3 Tiger".

  • Why am I getting error messages and sometimes no Bookmarks when I convert some MS-Word files to PDF

Our company produces educational products for business. Essentially they are e-books in PDF format with Bookmarks allowing for ease movement to various areas of the book. The original product is generated in MS-Word and then converted to PDF. These e-books vary from 40pages to 300 pages in length. Businesses use them as reference and problem solving tools. We are using Adobe Acrobat 7.0 and for what we do it serves our purposes very well.
Recently, with some MS-Word files only, I have gotten error messages while converting the file to PDF. Sometimes, it will not complete the conversion. Sometimes, it will complete the conversion BUT-there are no Bookmarks in the PDF file.
The main error message I get is:
"Acrobat PDF maker has detected 'Highlight Changes in Printed Document' has been selected. To create a PDF file with tags, unselect this option from VIEW>MARKUP. Do you wish to continue and create PDF without tags."
If I don't unselect VIEW>MARKUP  in the MS-Word file I can't complete the conversion to PDF. If I do unselect VIEW>MARKUP I can complete the conversion to PDF but the PDF file has no Bookmarks. Bookmarks are absolutely essential to the user facility with our products.
Does anyone know my problem is and can offer a solution.
    Thanks in advance

    BizGuru,
    Somethings to consider.
--| In Windows - the OS needs a goodly space for 'elbow room' - you don't want to have HDD free space drop below something like 15%.

Right clicking on a bookmark, allows me to open link in a new tab or window.... this works for the first while, but then breaks down and doesn't open anything. Restarting FF 4.0 works to resolve this issue. But lately after a half hour of working properly.. I have to restart. Never had this issue with 3.6... this a new bug?

    Make a backup/copy of:
    - Home/Library/Mail folder for Mail
    - Home/Library/Application Support/Address Book for Address Book
    - Home/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist for Safari bookmarks
    Home is your /Users/your_username folder.
The auto-complete feature when addressing new mail comes from Previous Recipients in Mail. I don't have my Mac with me at the moment to see if that is stored anywhere accessible.

  • Can't rename bookmarks

Hello, I'm using firefox 23.0 on linux, just tried to rename a bookmark and I have no "Properties" menu item anywhere and the textbox labeled "Name" in "Show all bookmarks" is grayed out for every single bookmark I have. Of course I also tried typing in the grayed out textbox and, as expected, it doesn't change.
I've read several support webpages on this issue and every one points to those two obvious solutions but, in my firefox, they don't work (meaning, not a single context menu has a Properties option, neither the textbox in Show All Bookmarks allows me to type in anything).
What's the deal with renaming bookmarks?

'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
    Please report back soon.

  • Do ALL Creative MP3 players have Bookmarking capabiliti

I currently have a 28 MB MuVo but am looking to upgrade to to a newer model. Before I buy a new model I need to know the answer to the following question.
Question: Do ALL of the Creative MP3 players have the bookmark feature including the Zen models?
If all of them do not have this feature, which Creative models do or do not have bookmarking capabilities?

  • Firefox allows me to add some pages as bookmarks and not others. For pages that don't work: when I click the star, it turns blue when I click, then goes back to being empty.

Last night I finally sat down to learn how to use Bookmarks. I had no problem creating and organizing bookmarks, but there are some pages that I cannot bookmark. One, for example, is the Gmail log-in page, which I use multiple times a day. I type in www.gmail.com, which routes me to a longer URL and the log-in page. When I click the star to make this page a bookmark, it won't work. I've also tried using the menu option "Bookmark This Page," which also doesn't work for this website. It's seems to be hit and miss as to when Firefox will allow me to bookmark a page and when it won't. I've had no problem adding many other pages; it just seems that with a handful of them I run into this issue.
I've tried closing Firefox and re-opening, which doesn't help, but that is about the extent of my troubleshooting attempts. This problem has been an issue for me for a couple of years and through several versions of Firefox. (I think I am currently running the most recent version.) It actually led me to believe early on that either Firefox Bookmarks didn't work or I just didn't have the time to figure it out. So since I've been using Firefox I have been repeatedly typing the names of my most frequented sites. I finally took time to sit down with it again last night and have found that Bookmarks will be a huge help. If I could only get ALL of my favorite pages to work...

None of the stuff in " http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite " helps. I have tried and tried and I have even wipe the computer clean still didn't help. I got the same problem as he/she has got in the first posted. Can add some web pages but not all the web pages I want.. I should have never updated to 3.6.13... That's when it all started for me, from that version..... Now Version 3.6.14 is out, I was hoping the version 3.6.14 might would fix the problem wrong again....
Funny thing is i can not even Bookmark Firefox.com!!!!!...lol
So any ideas on how to fix it other than the link giving would help.
    Thanks.

  • Tabs: previous versions allowed for saving all tabs in a bookmark folder. The new tab groups do not behave this way. How can I save permanent set of tabs as a group that is available later, like the folder of bookmars was?

tabs: previous versions of firefox allowed for saving all tabs with a group name, so you could open them all again later at your convenience. The new firefox 4.0.1 has a new tab feature, but the tab groups do not seem to persist once you shut down, and are not saved as a folder in your bookmarks. What am I missing? How can I do what I want (save permanent set of tabs as a group that is available later, like the folder of bookmarks was)? Thanks

Right click one of the tabs, the "Bookmark all tabs..." option.
Does it do what you want?

  • How can I get bookmarks moved to a new laptop when my old broken laptop can no longer launch Firefox but does still allow access to all of the Profile files such as places.sqlite

My old laptop appears to be a victim of Bit Rot according to an IT person who was here helping me. All of the support material I've seen so far related to moving bookmarks from one computer to another seem to assume that Firefox can be launched on the old computer (which can't be done in my case). I'd like to figure out how to use the files which may hold my extensive bookmark data while the old computer is still allowing me to access those files and save to a removable thumb drive.

Fortunately I seem to have found and still have access to the old Profile files you're mentioning but I don't know how to make use of them such that Firefox on my new computer can incorporate all the data they hold. Again, I'm not able to open Firefox on the old computer. Any ideas how to use these .sqlite files on the new computer to get myself operable how I had been w. Firefox on the old broken one?

  • When trying to save a bookmark to a specific pre-established folder the window disappears and will not allow me to make a selection. If I hover in the area it will flash on the screen and disappear again, it's annoying please help!

When I attempt to save a new bookmark and want to save it in a folder the window that typically appears just below the address bar will not stay on the screen. It flashes on the screen and as soon as I move my cursor over it, it disappears. It will not allow me to make a selection of any kind. If I randomly hover over the general area the window will flash back in view but disappear again just as quickly. If I then show all my bookmarks, the bookmark was saved and I have to move it to the folder I actually want it in. Just a few extra steps, but still very annoying. Please help!

  • New Firefox does not allow me to add attitional bookmarks. I can delete but I cannot add a new site or sites. Do you have an instant fix for the problem?

I have xp and have always been able to use bookmarks. The new Firefox allows me to go to a site with bookmarks, delete bookmarks, but I cannot add a bookmark by clicking on the star.
Also, Ebay's pages have smaller print (and pictures) than they should have - Google has the correct print and picture size. There is something wrong with Firefox.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Call Save Dialog [Save As] is not allowing me to Bookmark in Portal

    Hi All,
I am facing some problems trying to implement BEx bookmarking into my Portal. To explain a little further about our setup, we have a master web template which is connected to approximately 80+ queries. Within that web template, we have a button which has the CALL SAVE Dialog Save_As which should, in theory, allow users to bookmark their queries via the Portal.
Unfortunately, this is not working and when a user attempts to bookmark a query and save it via the Portal, the following blank screen is displayed with this URL: http://PORT NUMBER/irj/portalapps/com.sap.portal.navigation.helperservice/html/child.html.
If anyone could offer any insight into this issue I'd be truly grateful - THANKS!
    Bim

    Hi,
There might be a technical Rollup
When you restart the Application Host Helper Service on Windows Server 2008, it might help.
Or, if not, why don't you try to take an backup of the existing queries & perform a backup. I'm sure the error can be resolved.
    Thanks,
    Arun Bala G

  • Allow user to bookmark individual flash page

    Hi there,
I would like to know how I can create a whole website in
flash but still allow the user to copy the url of a certain page
and use that as a link to jump back to that exact page again or
    bookmark it as a favourite.
I've seen it done, generally the url will look something like
    www.domain.com/section1&id=345
Any advice anyone could give me would be much appreciated.
    many thanks,
    B.

Bookmarking is *browser* functionality. Flash can't talk
directly to the browser to do it. It's a bit tricky and may involve
    a number of browser-related technologies.
A bookmark-able "thing" must have a unique URL. So, if you
put your whole site inside "mywebsite.swf" found on page
"mywebsite.html", when you book mark the page, you will always get
the same thing, no matter where you have navigated within the
    Flash.
You need to do 2 main things:
    1. Make use of unique URLs
    2. Make your Flash be able to start differently based on #1
To accomplish #1, you either need server-side scripting or
make use of "parameters" to an HTML page which can be extracted
using JavaScript. You will also have to update the URL in the
browser as you navigate within your Flash. That way, when someone
creates a bookmark, they are bookmarking the spot they are in.
    Hopefully this gets you started...

  • When I have a pdf file open, I used to be able to click on "Bookmarks" tab on left side and allow me to click on each individual page and delete if I needed to.  Now when I click on the Bookmarks tab, that section is empty.  How can I get it to show each

when I have a pdf file open, I used to be able to click on "Bookmarks" tab on left side and allow me to click on each individual page and delete if I needed to.  Now when I click on the Bookmarks tab, that section is empty.  How can I get it to show each page again?

    Hi chrismarks1,
I think you may be confusing bookmarks with thumbnails. If you click the Page Thumbnails icon (the one above the Bookmarks icon), then you can delete a page by clicking its thumbnail, and clicking the Delete Pages icon (the trashcan icon). Just make sure that you're viewing the PDF file in Acrobat (rather than Acrobat Reader), as you can't delete pages from Reader.

  • Google has overtaken the mozilla webpage and I cannot view bookmarks etc how can I reset to allow me to view Mozilla webpage properly. I cannot even get to "tools" to make any changes

I can't access the Mozilla webpage on my computer since a friend of mine made some changes. The Google page used take up half the page when I opened Mozilla but now it takes 7/8th of the page so much so I can not access "my book marks"; file, view and tools etc on the Mozilla web Page. I need help to return/restore Mozilla as it was before my friend removed all the tool bars etc.
I can see 1/8 the of the web page behind the "Google" page; I've tried to put my curser at the sides, top and bottom of Google to reduce it to what it was but I'm unable to do so. I think if I could reduce it I could access my bookmarks etc.

Firefox 3.6+ versions have a feature to allow the user to hide the Menu bar.
Hit the '''Alt''' key to temporarily show the Menu bar, then open View > Toolbars and select Menu bar, so it has a check-mark. <br />
The F10 can also be used on most PC's to temporarily reveal the Menu bar.
