No Boot after adding memory

I have been running stable with my 2-512mb corsair...I came upon another gig of the same exact ram and thought that it would be cool to install it (all 4 dimms) and see how benchmarks would improve.  Bad idea.
First, I removed my 2 sticks of tested and working ram, stuck in the new (brand new) sticks of the same make/manufacturer and ran memtest to make sure it was good...memtest ran for 30 minutes with no errors.  So...I stuck all 4 sticks of this ram into all 4 slots and turned on the computer...nothing. all I got was the DBracket with the green light in the #2 hole, and red lights in 1,3,4.  That signifies Mem Detection, hanging means module bad or installed improperly. SO I refitted the RAM...and tried again...same problem.  SO, I give up easily and attempt to go back to my good old 2 sticks of Corsair VS in slots 1and2 where they had always been(the slots nearer the cpu..incase those numbers are wrong).
I tried to boot and the same thing...hanging on the Dbracket, #2 red, 1-3-4 green....So I reset the CMOS according to all proper methods (unplug, press on to discharge, move jumper, wait a few seconds, and move it back to 1-2).  Boot it up and nothing, same hang.  So, I figured, maybe I had the wrong 2 sticks of ram (since all 4 are identical) and I tried the other 2 pieces in slots 1 and 2.  Same hanging Dbracket message.  Now I am worried.
So next is to try the ram in the DIMM slots 3 and 4...tried both sticks in pairs and the same problem...now I am really worried.  So, I reset CMOS again and tried 1 stick at a time in slot 1 (the closest to the CPU).  The first time I tried this I got to post and I configured the BIOS to the way that It had been for the past 2 weeks.  Then I let it boot to windows successfully and shut it down to install the 2nd stick of ram....I installed the 2nd stick and rebooted, and THE BIOS DIDNT POST...it just ran straight into windows without posting.  So I imagined that maybe I should re-seat the ram and try again....same thing...straight to windows without post.  This was no good because I cant adjust settings, so I reset the CMOS jumper yet again and rebooted.  Now I am back to hanging on the Dbracket on the #2 red, and 1,3,4 green...I cant get to windows.
I cant believe this (or can I?!).  What have I done?  I cant imagine I ruined anything by putting in the 4 sticks of DDR (afterwards I saw a recent post and read the manual saying NO to double sided ram)...The posts didnt say it would kill my motherboard...I dont need 2 gigs of DDR ram...I really dont care about getting it to work with 2 gigs at DDR400..I DONT WANT THAT AT ALL!  All I want is to get the 2 sticks to post to BIOS and let me back into my computer.
Does anybody know what is going on ... I just spent 2 hours changing sticks of ram and clearing BIOS...What is it that happened?
Please
M

Well, I'll tell you one thing. It's impossible to startup windows without posting. So if you got up to windows, your computer DID post.
Remember that the default BIOS setting is to show the pretty logo, instead of the  textual information we old users like.
Also, sometimes bios may get thru faster than what the monitor can set the screen size and refresh rate. Resulting in seeing black, as the monitor tries to sync. And finally just seeing the windows logo. It was all there, but the monitor was not fast enough to show it. This happens more often when the monitor is cold.
Sometimes the bios can miss it, when you press the DEL key. So I suggest to just keep pressing it multiple times. If you got to windows, just tell it to reboot. And as soon as the screen goes black, start tapping the del key. Sometimes it can get tricky too, as pressing it too soon can cause keyboard errors.
In summary, if you can get into windows, you can certanly get into the bios.
EDIT:
btw, 4 sticks of ram would run at a reduced speed, DDR333. Consult the memory charts.

  • BEA WebLogic 8.1 server not booting after adding a security realm

    Hi,
I have added my own security realm for BEA WebLogic Server 8.1.
However, when I try to boot the server using this realm, it simply hangs. I cannot
take thread dumps as the server java process does not respond to "kill -3 PID"
    (after the server has hung).
When I looked at the server log file, I observed that the server had hung after
    initializing the IIOP subsystem.
I have attached herewith the following 3 files:
    1. config.xml (the server config file after adding entry for my security realm)
    2. default_realm.log (the server log file when booted through the default realm)
    3. netpoint_realm.log (the server log file when booted through my realm).
Is there any way, I can debug where the server is exactly hanging?

I just added another 512mb chip to my PB G4 upper slot. After adding the RAM, my PB will not boot/ load the OS. When I press the power button, the HD (i think) begins to run, but stops after about 2 seconds. I can't get it to do anything else. Please help.

Have you taken the new RAM stick out yet?

  • OS won't boot after adding more memory

Hello, I have one of the first Power Mac G5s (Single 1.8-Ghz, 8 DIMM sockets). The machine came with 512MB of RAM standard.
I'm trying to add more memory, but when I install additional modules, OS X doesn't boot up. I've tested the modules on their own, and they are fine.
When memory is installed in DIMM sockets 0 and 1, the computer is fine and boots up as normal. When I install the next pair, nothing happens. The computer turns on but nothing happens. Blank screen, hard drive isn't clicking, etc.
I've followed instructions from Apple, and I've attempted resetting PRAM, but nothing is working.
Should I reset PRAM before I install the modules?
Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Sometimes even two batches of RAM from a "good" vendor like Crucial are incompatible, and you're saying each set works on their own but not when installed at the same time.
With the new set in, run AHT and Memtest to be sure. AHT should be able to load - but maybe not.
When swapping RAM, either boot into Open Firmware and reset-nvram or try the old keyboard "zap pram/nvram" routine.
It may be that the latest memory is trying to be "backward compatible" which doesn't always work. You're G5 1.8-SP is a very early Sept/Oct 2003 model.
You should always reset nvram when changing hardware configurations.

  • [865PE NEO2 PFISR] Won't boot with added memory

Recently I upgraded a few items on my PC which has been running fine for 18 months or so. I changed out the video card and bought double the memory of the same brand and type it had in it. I went from 1gig (2 sticks) and added two more sticks. But now it won't boot. The power is on but no output whatsoever.
I RMA'd the memory thinking that might be the problem but it's the same with the new set. I tried all sorts of memory/slot combos. Basically, the new memory works fine if you swap it out in bank A with the old stuff. That's how it's running right now, so I know all of the sticks are good. I can take a third and put it in either slot bank B and it'll boot, but obviously not run properly. But any combination of these four sticks and the system won't boot!
    Please help!
    I'm running this system:
    Win XP (SP1 I believe)
    865PE NEO2 PFISR
    P4/3.0CGHz, 800M 478P/512K HT
    DDR Corsair 512MB X4 (400)
Dual 80gb samsung HDs running SATA
    Sapphire X800GTO 256M video card
    Antec Sonata case
    TruePower 380Watt ATX12V

What brand, model, and speed are the RAM sticks. Did you check your Test Report booklet which came with the mobo. If you can't find it, you can go to the MSI website and look for your MOBO and get the test report that way. Some brands/models will that have been tested are shown in the report to be okay in all 4 slots, some only test okay in 2 or 3. Check this report and if it is one of the brands/model/speed tested you will see how it fared. It may well be you the MOBO doesn't like your RAM in 3 or 4 slots.
Maybe I missed it, but did you try each slot with only one stick at a time? You may also have a bad RAM slot.

  • 648 Max Hangs during boot after upgrading memory

    :confused2:Can someone please help me.
I recently decided to upgrade my memory to 1 gig by adding a further 512mb ddr ram to my system. I already have 512mb pc2700 ram and found that pc3200 ram is cheaper so bought that to add, shouldn't be a problem as the manual says it should work with "333 and up". I used all the tried and tested safety methods for fitting ram so I know there has been no ESD (I have built several machines in the past so it is not a stupid error on my part (I hope))
I fitted the ram in the usual manner and turned on the system to find it would beep once (sounds like normal POST to me it always beeps once, however Ami bios beep codes say it could be dram refresh failure? but 1 beep is also POST ok?) and then hangs. No display no nothing. Fans are all running so power is there but no boot.
I looked on the D-Bracket and it has two red lights down the left side 2 green down the right which indicates it is testing memory. That is as far as it gets.
I had to use rather a lot of force in my attempt to fit the memory and feel I may have either cracked the motherboard, or pushed it so hard that it touched the casing underneath and shorted out (Oh dear, ESD). I have tried stripping out every component except ram, display and hard drive but still nothing. I have also tried putting just the old ram back in as it was before, no joy there either.
Could this be the motherboard is dead or the memory or both?
    Any help greatly appreciated
    DUCKULA

I finally decided to rip out my Mobo and have a good look around. I fiddled with it a while and then put it back and tried to boot up again. I discovered that if I push out the mobo in the opposite direction to the one I used to try and push the memory in, it will boot. Therefore it has to be a crack in one of the tracks in the mobo itself, although I can't see anything, it could just be a hairline crack, but that would be enough.
The lesson learned is, put your memory in before fitting the Mobo into your case, or at least try and support the underside better, whilst you push
I'm off to the shop for a new one (and a power supply).
Thanks guys for the helpful tips, at least I know what to look for next time

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
    Just added  GPU Asus GTX650TIB-DC2OC-2GD5
I ran the system for 3 months with the onboard graphics.  Never had a single problem.
Started playing my old flight sim game and had turn off/down many features to get the graphics to work and not freeze up at times, so bought a graphics card.
Had problems getting the new GPU to work.  Had to preload drivers to get it to come on.  Graphics would go off on some apps and had to reboot.
After a few days it has settled down and seems to work.
The problem is that the screen does not turn on until it gets to the windows welcome screen so I can't get to the bios screen.
It looks like there is a video preference setting in the bios but how can I get there.
I added all the utilities hoping to get the GOTOBIOS feature but when I go to MSI Fast Boot it just says its already running and so there is no tab to turn it on.
    What can I do?
Also had to remove the Network Genie as it slow the internet to crawl and had to remove the utility that controls fans and clock speed as it used 30% of the cpu all the time but I guess that's a new topic.
Sorry this is so long but as you can probably tell this my first time on the forum.

I tried to do this but F8 didn't work to get to safe mode.  It just locked up the start.  Checked on line and saw that I could change config file to make it go to safe mode but saw the horror stories of people getting in a loop and having to reload their whole computer so didn't' try that.
I went back to the onboard graphics and was able to see the bios prompt at start up.  Changed the integrated graphics configuration-initiate graphic adapter in bios to PEG for primary boot device.  After save and exit the monitor wouldn't come on all.  Shut down and switched the monitor cable back to the new GPU card.  On start up the monitor started immediately saw the bois prompt and all is working like it should.  The complete boot time is now much quicker,  like it used to be.  Time to start on my other problems.
    thanks  mcbob

  • Slow Boot after added hard drives in RAID 0

    Hi,
My Mac Pro used to boot very fast (from Bong to Login screen).
After installing a RAID0, it takes much longer to boot (x5).
When powering on, after the BONG, the grey screen appears and it seems frozen for a while ~30seconds. While grey screen is still on, I can hear the RAID0 hard drives finally waking up and starting to spin (I believe that they are the RAID0 hard drives because I can hear the startup disk just after the BONG). Once the MacOSX splash screen is displayed, everything goes very fast. Progress bar takes <2s to finally display login screen.
I suspect an incompatibility of the hard drives firmware with the Mac Pro even if those are very popular drives.
The Mac Pro is also sometime very slow to shutdown and when it occurs, I can hear the same sound of the drives waking up and starting to spin again.
I have disabled the hard drive sleep option in the power settings.
Here is my configuration. Disk4 has been added after the RAID0 and hasn't changed the issue. Please help.

I am still booting off of the same drive as before I added the RAID so RAID disk doesn't appear in disk control panel but I went there and reselected my initial MacOSX installation folder on Drive0. It seems to have improved things quite a bit. Was it just looking for other boot partitions on all hard drives on startup? I don't know why this setting would have changed when adding drives into the box.
    Thanks.

  • Windows 7 won't boot after adding a third partition with gparted

I needed extra space on my bootcamp partition so I :
    1. resized macintosh hd partition with disk utility
2.booted with gparted live disk and "growed" the bootcamp partition
Now Windows doesn't boot. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
your Topic says '...adding a third partition' whereas in your message you don't mention this third partition...
So what is the right one ?

  • 2009 Mac Pro Won't Boot after adding RAM (Crash-Keeps rebooting)

So I recently added new RAM that I purchased from OWC into my Mac Pro 4,1. It kept rebooting over and over and it gives me this error screen when it does. It doesn't get past the boot screen. I've since removed the RAM and replaced it with my old sticks (I discovered that the new sticks were the wrong speed 1333MHz vs 1066MHz). Still nothing.
This is incredibly urgent. Does anyone have any insight?

The hexadecimal stuff all over the screen is NOT a RAM panic. It is complaining about a USB problem and a caldigit driver.
The box near the center of the screen is saying you have the modules installed in the wrong slots.
Take it slow and simple. Install one module in the lowest-numbered slot on each side and work your way up on the RAM modules. You want to end up with the biggest modules in the lowest-numberd slots.
Remove all your USB devices for now to avoid that kernel panic.

  • Mac Pro 2010 Won't boot after adding Ram

Just got my Mac Pro 2.8 a few days ago. My 4x2 8Gig Crucial Ram upgrade arrived today along with my SIIG FireWire400 PCIe card. It seems as though the Mac Pro won't boot with both the Crucial Ram and the Samsung Ram that came stock with the Mac Pro. I kept 2 of the 1 gig Samsung chips and put in the 2 4Gig Chips from Crucial. They are all the DDR3 1066 240 pin chips. I've moved the 4Gig chips to slots 1 & 2 and I've tried them in slots 3 & 4. I've moved the 1Gig Samsung chips accordingly. The power light on the Mac Pro blinks continuously when they are both installed. I even tried removing the new SIIG FireWire 400 card but that doesn't change anything. It seems as though combining these two types of ram just doesn't jive. Any ideas? I'm dragging the tower from queens to SoHo tomorrow to let the Apple Genius gang have a look at it.

FYI, when I did install the Registered or "buffered" 8 Gigs of Crucial Ram by themselves the system did boot up normally and a memory notification popped up and said that my ram was in the "correct" or "suggested" configuration. I can't remember the exact phrasing but the OS definitely gave me a thumbs up. So now I am trolling the web trying to find out if the Registered memory is ok. I'm fine to just have 8gigs for now. But don't want to jeopardize the stability of my system. So, Is it ok to use Registered memory and if it is, am I using a lesser quality of ram in doing so?

  • Mac Pro won't boot after adding new hard disk.

I have 2 SATA back up disks which I want to install in my Mac Pro. But when I install them into my mac and hit the ON button, I hear a "click" and nothing happens. When I remove the hard drives the Mac will boot. I also tried it with only one of the two hard drives but no luck.
    What could this be ?

There is a lack of just what these are, outside of assuming 3.5" SATA
Did you erase or format them? what make/model and bought from where?
    Tried booting OS X DVD?
also, if this is Early 2009 and you are still on 10.5.8, you should strongly consider if you use ANY audio program or deivce, to upgrade to 10.6.5+
PS: unplug? after shutdown? or in order to shutdown?
That can add trouble to your boot drive.
Try safe boot also. And check the directory of all your drives.

  • HT204406 How can I syncing devices after adding memory through iCloud?

Every time I try to sync my iPod Touches, I am told that I cannot, because there is insufficient memory. I recently added more through paying for more through iCloud. I tried again to sync my devices and was given the same msg.
I apparently have 42G of memory available out of a total of 50g, so I fail to understand why I am told that there is not enough memory.
Can anyone help please? I am a teacher and use my two iPod Touches, my iPad2 and my MacBook Pro with my class so it is important to be able to sync my devices and have them up to date.
    Kind regards
    Suzanne Spiers

Go to your Contacts on your Mac - if more than one pick the most accurate; delete any contacts you don't want. Select all the contacts, and from the File menu choose 'Export...'>'Export vCard'. Save the resultant file safely: it will be your 'master' list.
Now delete all the contacts from whichever device has the most in it. Sync with iCloud. If necessary repeat with different Macs. The result should be that the deletions sync to iCloud and in the end you finish up with empty Contacts lists everywhere.
Now you can import your saved file to one of your Macs. Make sure you import it under 'iCloud' not 'On My Mac'. Then it should propagate iCloud and any other devices. Keep the saved file at least until you are satisfied that all is in order.

  • HELP: T440s won't boot after unsuccessful memory update

I have a T440s that came with 4GB RAM. Purchased a G.Skill Ripjaws 8GB DDR3L 1600 SO-DIMM (1.35v, PC3-12800, 11-11-11-28) from Newegg and installed in T440s. I did disable the internal battery from BIOS before installed the memory. However, I found my T440s won't even boot. I then tried the memory chip in two other laptops and found this SO-DIMM is defective so it's on the way back to Newegg.
Now my big problem is that my T440s won't boot anymore even with original configurations. Push the power button, there is no response from T440s. However, I do observed LEDs blink. When only use battery, then LEDs give one short blink every few seconds. LEDs will give four short blinks every few seconds if I plug in the wall power supply.
Did I kill my T440s ? Any way that can wake it up or I just need to contact Lenovo for warranty service?
Any help/suggestion is appreciated. Thanks a lot.
