No bootable device boot camp macbook pro retina 10.8.4

Hi,
I am reposting this under this community instead of under os x system software since it looks like there is no way to move posts to a different community. Anyway, just  bought a brand new Macbook Pro with retina display running 10.8.4. I  have always been a PC guy so I wanted to create a small Windows 7  Professional edition partition. I am using bootcamp to try and install  it but I keep getting the above no bootable device black screen when  boot camp restarts the mac to boot from the usb. My flash drive is a  Kingston Data Traveler 16GB. The kingston does not come with any of its  own software. It's completely blank. I have to use usb since I have no  optical drive. These were the three different ways I have tried so far.
1). Using my older lenovo PC, I created an iso image of my windows 7 disc using one of lenovo's bundled software: power2go.
Transferred it to my mac with the kingston and then ran bootcamp. - Failed
2).  Used the windows 7 USB/DVD tool. Now when trying to do this, the tool  said that the iso I have is not valid. I searched around the net for  this problem and resolved it using another tool. Now before actually  using the tool to copy the iso to the stick I thought to myself maybe  this problem is why bootcamp failed. So I transferred the 'fixed' iso  and ran bootcamp again on it and still same result.
3).  Actually use the win7 tool and copy the iso to the usb. Since I had  already partitioned the drive I didn't go throught the boot camp  assistant. I was going to install the support software later after I  could confirm mac could boot from the usb. I restarted the mac with this  usb stick plugged in and same result.
Now  in all three steps I actually pressed and held the alt/option key upon  reboot and in all three instances there was no 'Wininstall' drive that I  could select to start the installer. All I see is the macHD and the  recovery partition.
Doing  some searching there were some threads that discussed modifying the  plist (in the disk utility app I think) but to me that was only so  bootcamp could add in the option to create an install disk via usb.  Since that problem isn't there I didn't bother trying it. Maybe I am  wrong? Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Update: A user responded to the other thread. So the usb flash device that I am using is 3.0 and looks like there can be problems with that one. So the proposed a solution is to get an external dvd drive and try to install it that way. Perhaps a usb 2.0 stick might work as well. In either case I'll have to buy one. Will update this once done.
The other alternative is to use windows through a VM.

  • Boot Camp: Macbook Pro 8,2 wont boot from USB or External CD Drive

Im pretty far into this process, and I have already jumped through a few hoops.  I have replaced my Superdrive with a HD and am trying to install Boot Camp on a late 2011 Macbook Pro 8,2.  I have gone in and edited the info.plist by taking out PRE which allowed me to make a USB Bootable drive with Windows 7 Ultimate on it.  I also have the install DVD with a an activation key for that.  I have partitioned my HD with 50 GB of space for Boot Camp and Windows and then it prompts me to restart.  At this point the computer tries to boot into Windows installer but instead gives me " No Bootable Device - insert bootable CD and press any key..."  I have tried restarting holding option with the external CD drive and USB drive plugged in, with just the USB drive plugged in, and with just the external CD drive plugged in.  With the CD drive plugged in and by holding option I do get the option to boot from OSX, Recovery, Windows, and EFI boot (the last two have the icon of a disk.)  When I click on windows it goes to the black screen with No Bootable Device.... and when I tried EFI boot it just sits there for a really long time and does nothing.  Any help?
I have already had people tell me to re-install my superdrive and try but that was a tedious process and I'd rather not do that.  Thanks in advance,

Meh, with the price they take for a drive in Denmark, I don't think it's worth it... They take around 160 $ for the drive (that's the cheapest MacBook drive I could find), and I am not even sure that's the one I need.

  • No Bootable Device - Boot Camp

I installed bootcamp to my computer and allocated a 5gb partition for windows. I rebooted the computer with the windows xp cd in the computer. I went to setup to setup windows xp and the disc is an upgrade disc so it told me to put in the windows 98 disc which I had. I tried getting the disc out but I pressed the ejct button and nothing happened. So I reboot the computer using the eject disc technique (trackpad hold). I load up the computer and it says no bootable device. I tried putting in the macbook pro install disc. Did not work. Tried holding C and putting it in the computer. Did not work. Tried just putting in Windows 98. Did not work. Anyone know a solution?

yea i got that trying o install linux, you need to hold down **option**
    took me a while too
also, i don't think you can install win98, bootcamp says either XP Home or XP Pro SP2

  • Boot Camp MacBook Pro

Im trying to Boot Camp my MacBook Pro and is asked to make a backup. Is there anyway around this or do i have to make a backup? Dont have an external harddrive and dont really wanna buy one just for this

The reasoning is, very BAD things can happen.  And if they do, you will be back here asking for a fix.  The fix is to have a backup.
I urge you to protect your investment and your data (not to mention your sanity) and get an external drive.
Sorry I don't know a workaround, and there may be a good reason there isn't one.

  • Tap to click Windows 8 Boot Camp MacBook Pro Mountain Lion?

I am running Windows 8 through Boot Camp on a 2012 MacBook Pro, and I can't figure out how to enable the tap-to-click feature that I use on the OSX partition of my hard drive. Can anyone help?

Change “Tap to Click” (and other preferences) using Apple’s Boot Camp Control Panel:
Hit Windows + W (er, Command + W) to search in settings, type “Boot Camp” and hit Enter/Return.
Answer “Yes” to the question about whether you want to let this app have its way with your computer.
In the resulting “Boot Camp Control Panel” switch to the “Trackpad” tab.

  • No Bootable Device problem on MacBook Pro

Okay, so I wanted to try to install Windows on my device using Bootcamp assistant. I partitioned it, but did not continue with the installation because I found out about parallels Desktop and changed my mind.
After installing windows 7 using parallels desktop I remembered the partition and went to bootcamp again and deleted it and returned my device to one section.
My laptop kept working normally until the battery drained. No problem right? Wrong. I plugged it in and restarted and a black screen comes up saying "No Bootable Device" I googled this and figured out the "hold the option key down" trick.
This works and i was able to get back in, however i restarted it again and the problem is still there, how can i permanently get rid of the "No Bootable Device" screen?
I know the "No Bootable Device" screen is a somewhat common problem when bootcamp installation goes wrong but i didn't actually start installing windows through bootcamp, I just partitioned it then unpartitioned it.

zoobaaruba welcome to the disscussion forums. Are you saying after Option on restart you can successfully boot? If this is the case then go to +System Preference-->StartUp Disk+ and reselect your boot drive. Hope this solves your issue.

  • Windows 7 boot camp (Macbook Pro 13") function keys

    Hey everyone,
I've had Bootcamp installed on my Mac prettty much since a few days after I bought it about 3 weeks ago. I've always had this issue- but finally thought I'd do something about it.
So, when I'm booted into Windows 7 (ultimate, 64 bit) my function keys (brightness, keyboard brightness, volume, eject) will not work, with or without the fn key held down. I have toggled the option in bootcamp preferences.. But this has not helped. Other than that though- it works 100% correctly... It's not too bad... its just irritating.

  • Handoff on macbook pro retina

hey guys I've just upgraded to yosemite and I've done everything you could possibly think of to make handoff work
bluetooth on across all of my devices (including my macbook pro retina)
same wifi network for all devices
signed into the same icloud account for all devices
all devices (iphone 5, imac, macbook pro retina) are eligible for handoff, instant hotspot and low energy bluetooth
but the handoff tab doesn't show at the left side of the dock and neither does the instant hotspot sign shows in the list of wifi networks
what should I do, this is really driving me crazy

First, verify that the Mac is capable of using Handoff. Hold down the option key and select System Information... from the Apple menu. In the System Information window, select Bluetooth from the list on the left. Near the top of the summary of "Hardware, Features, and Settings," you should see this line:
              Handoff Supported: Yes
Follow the instructions in this support article. All the devices using Handoff must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If the Mac also has an Ethernet connection, disconnect the Ethernet cable.
If Handoff still doesn't work, on the mobile device, turn Handoff off and back on as directed in the linked article. On the Mac, turn Bluetooth off and back on. You might have to restart a mobile device to get it working.

  • Windows 7 professional 64 Bit on MacBook Pro Retina 15 with Boot Camp ?

Hallo guys, i have a big problem with installing Windows 7 professional 64 Bit on my MacBook Pro Retina 15 with Boot Camp. No matter what i try i get a black screen after partitioning or get a message like " No bootable disk" or  " No System Disk availabe".
My Mac has : OS X version 10.8.2, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB memory, 2.6 GHz Intel i7 and is only a week old
My Boot Camp is version 5.0.1
My Windows InstallingDVD is one year old now, i needed it to build a PC last year, hope that doesnt make a difference, its a full version, so not just for upgrading.
From what i saw in the apple support it should work on my macbook. I hope someone can help me.
    Thanks in advance.

Ok, problem solved. I looked a bit more here in the questions and there was the answer and its quite simple.
Somehow an USB-stick makes problems while Windows wants to install, i dont know why. So i just made everything over DVDs and now everything works fine.

  • MacBook Pro Retina (Mid-2014) Cannot Boot Camp

    Hi all,
I'm running OS X Yosemite (10.10.2) on my MacBook Pro Retina 13" (Mid 2014). I have tried to boot camp the machine but it's not working. After boot camp assistant has created the Windows 8.1 installation disk and saved all the drivers and software onto my thumb drive, it will then request for me to choose the size of the partition. However at the last step when I click the "Install" button, my computer will restart and boot into OSX. In Disk Utility the BOOTCAMP partition is there, but in System Preferences BOOTCAMP is not listed as a Startup Disk. I have tried to restart the computer while pressing the option key, and startup manager appears. However under startup manager only Macintosh HD is recognised and my BOOTCAMP partition or windows installation USB both do not appear. I have tried to create a partition manually in Disk Utility and open Startup Manager again to install windows from my thumbdrive, but again both thumbdrive and windows partition do not appear. Please help.
    Thanks.

Since you have a Mid2014 MBP, the USB should contain the Windows installer and BC drivers. Make sure your USB is a USB2 flash drive/disk. USB3 will fail.
There should be no hubs between the USB and the MBP and no other external peripherals connected to the Mac.
However at the last step when I click the "Install" button, my computer will restart and boot into OSX.
This indicates that the Mac cannot find the USB with Windows ISO and BC drivers.

  • MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) - Boot Camp/Win 7 - Num Lock Problem

    Hey,
I have a client who has a MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) who is experiencing a problem when booted into Windows 7 via Boot Camp in that he cannot type certain character like # (hash character by keystroke alt + 3) without Windows 7 error bleeping at him. He needs the # character as part of his password for logging into webmail.
The Boot Camp setup has the latest Boot Camp drivers installed (this was a fresh Boot Camp setup/install today) and every other part of the hardware works I suspect that this problem is not a key mapping problem but more something to do with Windows registering Num Lock as being active.
If the problem is that Num Lock is enabled then what is the keystroke to disable Num Lock? I thought it was fn + 6 but did this change since the Unibody MacBooks?
I understand that there are ways of resurrecting number pad fuctionality as decribed in the MacWorld article (see link below) but this is a Mac OS X System Preference and as such would not operate when booted into Windows via Boot Camp.

hi i have macbook pro retina 15 and i installed win 7 with boot camp but when i want play games the first 2 minutes is good but the next minutes the macbook becomes very hot and graphics going very low i tried osx 10.8  but still not working. i tried command option shift power when mac is plugged in and off but still not working
does any one know solution of this problem??
    <Edited by Host>

    Hi All,
I tried this and it improved my FPS in games yesterday, still not getting FPS I would desire, but its become playable.
    Repasted here from another thread:
My retina MacBook Pro has had terrible graphics performance problems for a couple of weeks. I searched all over various forums and tried everything: resetting SCM, manually selecting discrete/integrated graphics card, deleting graphics kexts, etc. Nothing helped until I found this: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19880198#19880198
Now my rMBP has silky smooth graphics again!
The directions in that post are a little hard to understand so I cleaned them up here:
Step 1: Delete system windowserver preferences
In the Finder, from the menu bar, select "Go -> Go to Folder..."
    Enter: /Library/Preferences/
    Delete the file called com.apple.windowserver.plist
Step 2: Delete user windowserver preferences
In the Finder, from the menu bar, select "Go -> Go to Folder..."
    Enter: ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/
Delete all files that start with com.apple.windowserver   (On my rMBP, there was one file called com.apple.windowserver.12AFB147-95D6-5C70-8F62-C1E4F2BE81BE)
Step 3: Reset the PRAM    (These instructions are from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379)
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Hopefully this helps others with bad graphics performance on retina MacBook Pros.

  • Windows 8 on boot camp on MacBook Pro retina w/external monitors = screen resolution not correct

how do i calibrate external monitors resolutions individually in windows 8 (like can be done in OS X) so that my MacBook Pro retina text isn't teeny tiny and my external monitors look normal? Is there a way to set the resolution and text size for each monitor separate from one another in Windows 8? Thanks for the help.

In Windows 8 use the help menu and search for external display.

  • MacBook Pro Retina 2013 stuck on boot every time after iPhone 5S is connected to it.

I have a MacBook Pro Retina 2013 and I've noticed that every single time I connect the iPhone 5S to it at the next boot the Mac hangs.
Booting in Safe Mode will eventually work (after about 20 minutes).
I can reproduce this every single time with this combination. Any advice?

You can try resetting the PRAM and SMC, but both of your devices are new. You can just make a Genius Bar appointment and let them figure it out.
