When i turn on my laptop, it displays something very similar texts as follow:

PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"
I read that i should try to get into bios, however, i cant get into bios. i have tried f2, del, esc, f12 (default key to get into bios for my laptop) I have also tRied Fn f2, Fn f12. none works.
I havE tried taken out th harddrive and repeat th same trials as above, still cant get into bios.
i have also tried taking the battery out and press the start button for 30 second, and replace the battery. still no luck.
i havE also triEd connEcting my external harddisk via usb but stillthE sAme messages.
Could someone please help?

The F2 button is the right one!
You have to press F2 while powering on the unit!
As mentioned by BobRock; press it several times in the row!
In some cases you need to press INS button and then F2 to access the BIOS. This is required for some units when supervisor password has been set.
By the way: the PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable message appears because the notebook tried to boot from LAN. Usually this happens in case the HDD cannot be found. Mostly because of HDD hardware problem

  • No bootable device message appears on my Satellite notebook

I get the message "No bootable device -- Please restart system"; what does this mean? The laptop is only a year old and will not boot up. I have tried a bootable DVD also, and it won't boot from that either!
    Please help.

To be honest I don't understand the situation.
Which notebook model do you have?
Which operating system do you use?
What do you want to do exactly?
    >The laptop is only a year old and will not boot up
What do you mean with will not boot up?

  • No bootable device message - can I reboot temporarily to retrieve valuable data?

Hi. Turned on my Presario CQ61-110SA notebook this morning and after a bit of bleeping I'm confronted with the 'No bootable devic - insert boot disk and press any key' message.
I went through the various F10 diagnostics, but no joy - the system doesn't recognise a hard drive. Then, following the handbook advice, I carefully took out the hard drive and replaced it (three times!) in case it had disconnected. Again, no joy.
Now, I have recovery disks from way back when I first got the computer, but I don't want to use those yet - there's valuable information on the hard drive that I really don't want to lose.
So, my question is this: is there another way of fixing this or at least of temporarily rebooting the computer (using the first recovery disk???) so that I can retrieve the data after which I can reset with the recovery disks?
    P.s. I'm using Vista

Reboot, hold the option key down at the sound of the chime, release it when the start manager appears. Select OSX.

  • No bootable device message while installing windows 7

I am trying to install windows 7 on my macbook via bootcamp but everytime I try I get this message on a black screen "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key" I have to reeboot my macbook to get back to OS X. My question is: Is there a way to avoid this and install windows 7?

You might also want to post this in the Boot Camp forum. They'd be more likely to answer your question.

  • Error messages appear while booting Satellite A100

I tried booting my notebook and this error messages are displayed:
system bios shadowed, video bios shadowed,
resource conflict-PCI serial bus controller on motherboard Bus:07, Device:06, Function 01
resource conflict-PCI mass storage controller on motherboard Bus:07, Device:06, Function 02
    resource conflict-PCI PCI on motherboard Bus:07, Device:06, Function 03
How can i resolve this prob?

    Hi
Looks a little bit like a device conflict on the motherboard.
There is always one device mentioned: Device:06
So possibly all the error messages are related to the same device. Im not quite sure what device 06 could be but I think its miniPCI device and possibly a WLan card.
Try to remove the WLan card from the notebook and check this again.
But before you would do this, go to BIOS and set the BIOS to default settings. Save the changes and boot the unit again.
Check if the message would appear once again

  • HDD failure error message appears on my Satellite C

I got the following message a week ago, it said controller error found on hardisk1.
    Any solution please ?
Your HDD has the SMART Predict Failure function which monitors the HDD operating status.
Your HDD is experiencing a problem and SMART monitoring software predicts that the HDD will fail.
Toshiba strongly recommends you create a back-up for your HDD data.
Then contact an authorized service provider in order to check your drive and purchase a new replacement drive if necessary.

    Hi
I think the message says everything:
The HDD fitness has been checked and it look like some problems have been detected
I would recommend to back-up the important data in case the HDD would die, you could restore it again from another HDD, disk or flash memory

  • How to update to ios6 when "could not establish a secure connection to the device" message appears with Jailbroken iPhone 4

    Hi all,
I've been trying to update my Jailbroken iPhone 4 to ios6 but, unfortunately, I keep getting the "could not establish a secure connection to the device" when connecting it to iTunes. I've tried updating "over the air" but this flags up an error too. Finally, I can't restore to a previous backup because, the backups I previously had, were stored on my old (broken) computer.
CAn anyone help? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

In non-poem; You jailbroke your phone, which is not support by Apple, meaning updates will not work on it as they would if you were running official software.
As per the ToC for the device, and for these Discussion Boards (both you agreed too), you will not get support either from the discussion board, or from Apple directly.

  • No bootable device

Hello, I have a 15 month old hp pavilion7-4165dx entertainment notebook. For the last 6 months or do I would occasionally get a no bootable device message but after shutting down and restarting it was fine. It happened again but now it keeps saying that. I did the f10 disgnostic and the memory passes but hard drive test fails. When I start it up it says smart hard disk error. Detected imminent failure . The test says testing drive 1. Smart check: failed. Have I just lost everything on my hard drive? I have Pictures and items not backed up. Could it be a connection since sometimes it worked before after this error?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    The model number you supplied isn't a complete number but I think you are referrring to the HP Pavilion dv7-4165dx Entertainment Notebook Computer. According to the specs, your computer came with a 640GB / 5400RPM / SATAII / 2.5" hard drive. The SMART drive error you are getting typically means the drive has failed or is about to fail. While it could be the connection, it is very unlikely that it is. The AMD based dv7 series laptops came with following hard drive configurations;
    Single hard drive configurations:
    1-TB, 5200-rpm
    750-GB, 5200-rpm
    640-GB, 7200-rpm
    640-GB, 5400-rpm
    500-GB, 7200-rpm
    320-GB, 7200-rpm
    250-GB, 7200-rpm
    and
    Dual hard drive configurations:
    2-TB (1-TB, 5200-rpm × 2)
    1500-GB (750-GB, 5200-rpm × 2)
    1280-GB (640-GB, 7200-rpm × 2)
    1280-GB (640-GB, 5400-rpm × 2)
    1000-GB (500-GB, 7200-rpm × 2)
    640-GB (320-GB, 7200-rpm × 2)
    500-GB (250-GB, 7200-rpm × 2)
Make sure you have a set of HP Recovery Discs... you will need these to restore the OS and HP Recovery partitions to the new drive. Replace the drive with one of the same size or larger and same RPM or faster. You may be able to get your personal files and folders off the hard drive. If you can get it to boot into Windows or a live Linux CD, you should be able to move the files and folders to an external drive. Actually there are many ways of recovering your files... just ask if you need more help.

  • After failed repartition, No bootable device on startup

    Hi,Got a really annoying problem.
I had a windows partition using bootcamp. I then tryed to remove it using bootcamp but got a error message stating that drive could not be repartitioned. I tryed again but the program froze so I force quit it. Now I cant access the windows partition but there is space occupied on the drive where it should be.
Also when I turn the Macbook on it tries to boot into windows I guess because i get a no bootable device message.
I can still access the mac partition by holding down option at boot but this is getting annoying really quickly.
I have tryed repairing and verifying disk permissions and erasing free space but besides having more room on this partition nothing else.
Have tryed tips on other disussions and nothing has worked.
Any help would be amazing thanks.

I received a new iMac on Wednesday, and therein began my problems.  I needed to set up a partition with
Bootcamp so I could  run Windows 8.1.  After repeated efforts I was unsuccessful, and could not get the
the drivers to work.  I read on the Apple support discussions that many have also been not able to get
    Bootcamp to work.
I gave up and installed Windows 8.1 with Parallels.  It was easy, but when I installed the 42 Windows 8.1
updates, I lost Internet Explorer and could not download things from the internet such as virus protection
software.  I had to reinstall Windows and decided not to install any updates.  I'll take my chances with
malware and only go on the internet via Safari.  Windows 8.1 is terrible, and I see on the blogs that many
people have had dissasters after installing the updates.
Ineeded Windows to run my Quickbooks software.  In retrospect, I should just have installed
Quickbooks For Mac even though folks say it is not as good as the Windows version.  My accountant
would have needed to adjust to the change.  Beware of Windows, and stick with Mac !

  • Message 'No bootable device- Please restart' - Satellite C series

    Hi,
Only had my laptop for just over a month and the white on screen arrow would freeze completely just after starting up. Was therefore unable to use any programme or do anything on the computer.
Backed up all of my data then got an IT friend of mine to look at it.
Completely wiped the computer to start afresh and am now only able to get a black screen which says :-
    'Checking media'
    then after two seconds
'No bootable device - Please restart system'.
Restarted roughly ten times now and the same error message comes up.
When I press any key, the message is repeated.
    Thanks

    Hi
Please check firstly what device has been chosen to boot the notebook.
Usually the notebook should boot from HDD.
So go to BIOS (F2) and check if HDD has been set as first bootable device.
Furthermore you should check if HDD is recognized at the first BIOS page (size, name).
In case the HDD isnt listed there, the HDD is faulty and cannot be found by BIOS.
This would require HDD replacement and new OS installation.

  • "No Bootable Device -- insert a boot disk and press any key" Error Message.

Last month I just got a HP netbook (HP Mini 110-3100) and when I got it from the box, the error message; "No bootable device -- insert a boot disk and press any key" appeared. But then I managed to boot up the netbook normally. After that, I can use the netbook normally but the error message keeps appeared and becomes more frequent and now I even cannot turn on the netbook.
Is it a hard disk failure?
p/s: yesterday accidentally I can turn on the netbook without any problems. Did a lot of Hard Disk Maintenance by some softwares downloaded from the internet. But now already cannot turn on.
p/s/s: i have no cd/dvd drive, and also no 8GB usb drive.
p/s/s/s: what should i bring if i want to send the netbook to the HP centre? just bring the netbook?

I would suggest try and reseat the hard drive and check...If you still have the issue, than take it to the service center...And you will need to take only netbook to Service center...
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

  • Re: Satellite L50-B05D can't load Win 8.1 - bootable device not found

    Hi
I have a Satellite L50-B05D and I recently downloaded the bios update and I applied it to my system. When I did it said that it contained the update already. After being on the laptop for a while, I closed the lid and it turnt off. When I turnt it back on Windows wouldn't load up and a message of bootable device not found occured.
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks

Did you check the HDD status on the first BIOS page?
If HDD is OK, the first BIOS page should provide the info about the connected HDD (HDD name)
At the other hand the HDD might be faulty if its not listed on the first BIOS page.
