No BT Sport HD

Morning all.
I have BT Broadband Infinity 2. My BT Sport was previously provided via my Sky+ box.
My BT TV service (HD service) was activated on Thursday and I contacted BT to request my BT Sport service be provided via my Youview box.
BT Sport in standard form is viewable but I have an on-screen message telling me I need to subscribe to receive BT Sport HD.  I've contacted BT tech support who passed me onto the order management department who said the matter would be resolved by 20:00 hrs yesterday.
I still don't have BT Sport HD.
Any suggestions how I resolve this problem.

Edit: Apologies.  My problem has now been solved by a very helpful lady in Tech support

Getting error message when logging in saying that my BT ID is not correct yet it is the primary one and logs me in online to my BT account also other people I know are having the same problems

I have had the exact same problem. The cause was that the email address you gave when registering for BT Sport is not the same one you are logging in with to access mybt. ( you can have more than one login profile set up for mybt). To check if this is your problem, log into mybt and make sure that in your profile that it says you are the authorised user, you need to be for sports app to work
Ilogged in to mybt with previous ID (email add), reset password as I had forgotten it and now works fine.

  • Sky Sports 1 and 2 and BT in general - Absolutely ...

I would like to start by stating this will be a bit of an essay but I hope anyone who opens this thread up takes the time and consideration to read and takes it on-board, I am particurlarly aiming that at prospective BT customers who may be here to consider taking up a contract with BT, I strongly urge you to NOT DO THIS and to use my experience as the leading reason why.
We have been BT customers since we moved into our current property back in 2003, we have the current full package on offer, BT Infinity, with the Sky Sports and ESPN upgrades and the full On Demand and Broadband services. We have experienced numerous problems over the past three to four years with connectivity issues. The broadband drops in and out all the time, it's hard to put a level of consistency on this but on some days it can drop out 25-30 times, it can happen a lot at the weekend some weeks or weekdays on the others or both, the timing varies, it doesn't appear to be reflective of particurlar weather conditions, not that this should really matter anyway but we've been investigating all possible lines of enquiry as to why the problems keep happening, by my calculation we've had 18 engineers out to visit the property, I myself, and this does not include the other numerous phone calls made by fellow family members, have called and reported the problem to BT at least 50 times in this time period, I've taken days off work to wait for engineers, I've unplugged and reset my hub more times than I care to remember, we've had the hub itself replaced four times, the Vision box replaced twice, the lines re-routed through our house twice and more e-mails and letters than I reckon President Barack Obama sends in one year in office!
And so far, to date, and I am talking about in the last five days, the problem still exists! The only way to get the connection back is to turn the hub off and back on again, or use the reset button, which we all know disrupts the hub and often results in further faults down the line, I would love to not have to do this but given we're paying for 24/7 internet access I should not have to sit around waiting, in most cases, up to 3-4 hours for the signal to return to the hub by itself (I know, I've timed it, something else I've wated much of my own time doing). The lights don't flash or change colour on the hub either when this problem occurs (the hub should register lack of connection, with the lights going from blue to either flashing blue or, in most cases, red, just for the record they stay blue but we have used various devices in this house ranging from state-of-the-art, brand-new laptops to tablets to i-phones to desktops and the problem occurs the same for everyone so before I get one of the many excuses I've already had from BT that it's a potential "device problem" you can forget that one, been there, done that!).
I have urged, and urged, and urged the engineers, the people I speak to one the phone, the personal advisors our case has been passed on too, to look at potential problems outside our property i.e. the exchange. This has been rebuffed time and time again. "It's not the problem sir, the problem is here sir, the problem is not our fault sir" etc. etc. etc. Well, guess what....
We've just received a phone call informing us that, from June 10th in our area, due to issues with the exchange being able to hold the signal, Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 will no longer be avaliable on our BT package. As huge cricket fans, from a personal perspective, first off, this is infuriating. The person we spoke too also claimed Sky have "pulled the plug" on the package so, also, I'm a little confused as too which is the actual issue here resulting in the loss of Sky Sports? That you've known all along that there has been problem in my local area with the exchange and the signal it can hold, or that Sky have pulled the rights to their sports package? Or perhaps that you spent £757 million recently on a new TV rights package for Premiership football for two new BT Sports channels (those ones you see currently advertised, on, of all channels, Sky Sports 1 and 2!) and actually are just quite happy to cut customers out who have lined your pockets with substantial monthly fees for programming you knew full well didn't work when you first signed contracts with Sky to pick it up, and then distributed to customers? Are you seriously telling me after, by my calculation, three years, you didn't know Sky Sports 1 and 2 didn't work in my local area, yet carried on debiting bank accounts, advertising the channels, supplying them and then, now, with less than a month's notice, you've pulled the plug? That takes me right back to the title of my message - absolutely disgraceful.
I should make it clear at this point we have experienced problems with BT Vision too, albeit not lately, thank God, although that is not to say the problems wouldn't return. Signal dropping in and out, screen crackling and dropping out, black screens frequently on SS1, SS2 and ESPN etc. As for the On Demand service, that is obviously effected by the hub signal dropping in and out, the Vision box also does not appear to correlate with the hub when the signal returns and remains offline for a further amount of time, even when it is disconnected and then reconnected. It is constantly buffering too when the signal is low. Also, one other, far more minor point, you've been advertising 'red button coming soon' now for about three months!? I don't know what your definition of 'coming soon' is, but it's not the same as mine I can assure you, and I'm willing to bet quite a few others too!
Can you give me a good reason why I shouldn't report you too Trading Standards for misleading and false advertising? For 3 years you've been selling us a Sky Sports package you know full well won't work properly in our local area, I don't blame you for Sky's monpoly on sport, but perhaps you can explain to me why you've given two answers that completely contradict each other to the future dealings with Sky Sports in our local area? Why have you not addressed the issues with the exchange for our connectivity problems, despite the fact your now claiming it is what is probably attributed to causing our issues with the two sports channels? Also, I have worked in customer service jobs and I know people wind the heck out of you on some days, but a significant portion of your "customer advisors" are rude and ignorant. You ring the freephone number, your on hold for half-a-century, you get put through to the call-centre in Bombay and you are treated with contempt, I actually feel sorry for the people who work out there, they are clearly reading from a script and lack in clear English Language skills, which is not their fault, it's yours. As for anyone who takes dispute with that, go and ask them a question next time like "how is your day?" They won't answer, they can't, it's not on their call sheet. The few I have dealt with who have clear use of the language are, as I said, rude and ignorant, often accusing me, quite clearly, of lying and of having not reported the problem, for me then to find out a later date when I speak to the technical deparment and to BT Openreach (and yes, I know they are two seperate companies) that date is not transferred correctly between the two which is why whoever you speak too in the call-centre usually only has a last referral point for you from some years ago, it's also quite clearly a deflection manouvre to keep you away from actually getting your problem resolved, paying Openreach to dispatch engineers if required and so you don't clog up the minimal amount of contactable phone numbers for the average customer that are based in the UK.
Failure to receive a suitable and acceptable answer to my queries will result in me having no other option but to consider taking the matter further, I am also inclined now to make it my work between now and the date of June 10th to persuade everyone I know and they know to stay as far away from your company as possible and the "services" you claim to provide.
Also, as huge cricket, and for that matter, NFL fans, maybe you should consider that many sports-viewers in this country aren't just about football. Yes I know that's where the money lies but there is profit to be made from other sports ventures too, I don't think you realize just how many fans you are leaving out in the cold over this move, the whole reason we, and we are just one example, subscribed to the Sky Sports package was for the cricket, and for the NFL. Two sports that are entirely monopolized by Sky, yes I realize, as I state earlier, that's not your fault, but why don't you show a bit of interest in them then? Why don't you be slightly different, you have over £700 million to spend on Premiership football but little else? If you want to attract more customers and build larger profit margins, you have to be more diverse and explore new options and directions to do this.
I'm sure some will say, "why not get Sky?" Well unfortunately we can't due to our location but at least Sky were up-front and honest enough to tell us this when they first came to do a consultation, one, that by the way, we had as a secondary option to BT due to the attractions of the On Demand package, that then wasn't offered by Sky. How sad it's come too this and what an awful way to treat loyal customers who have upgraded to the packages you have offered in all innocence to obtain a better and more fruitful service? Customers who have never been late with payments either and used the likes of the Box office service for both movies and music (when the latter was chargable) as well, the money you have had off us, and that is what we've received in return and yet, perhaps, the poorest reflection on us, is we have stuck it for so long, but we are at the end of our tethers now and utterly furious at the decisions we've learned today that I am going to ensure we get to the bottom of this.
Thank you for taking the time to read, what I appreciate, is a lengthy message. I didn't want to have to write this but it was the only way of making our problems and feelings clear, and I wanted to include everything so as not too mislead anyone myself.

Sadly as this is customer to customer forum you are only talking to fellow customers.
Perhaps it would be better to contact the Mods who are the only BT employees here,

  • BT Sports & Tv Extra. NOT UNLOCKING. Infinity 1 pa...

    Hello
We are lifetime BT phone (domestic and business ) customers, but are new to BT Infinity 1/TV Extra (inc BT Sports 1&2, ESPN etc).
The fibre and HH5 has been installed Tuesday and is working excellently, getting top speed consistently.
youView box was installed Wednesday and 30hrs later still no BT Sports(which was the deal breaker for us)
I have tried to activate via our MyBT, and it just says "Sorry there is a problem with your order". Furthermore our account says we don't have TV or Broadband. yet when I type the VOL no in, it comes up with all the details saying the order is fulfilled (and it gives two VOL no.s) whichever I select it correctly lists the items and says fulfilled and activated.
CAN SOMEONE - hopefully a Moderator- assist in unlocking/activating BT sports & TV extra channels please.
The order was made online (via a Money Saving Expert cash back/Sainsburys voucher offer).

the saga continues - its alll abit too long winded to detai on here, but seentially BT have repeatedly canclled, reissued and generally messed up our order... we rang last week and finally thru begging were able to get the BT Sport app working so we coudl watch the NUFC match... but we still dont have BT Sport or TV Extra on the TV
Customere Care continually state "the order is showing as Not Completed in the Background" - we get statements such as "Data Integrity Team will call you back and resolve it" - no one ever calls back apart from one Customer Care person who has now managed to cancel our TV EXtra order and reissue us a TV Essentials package for twice the price we agreed and had an order for
    - the whole thing is ridiculous... I'm not at the point of just emailing just abnout everyone in BT referencing the 1982 Supply of Goos and Services Act... namely we have paid for activation and not received it...
the Infinity 1 BBand service so far has been generally excellent
so if anyone one here has access to the 'Data Integrity' Team - I'd willlingly accept help...

  • HD package confusion - sports channels and Extreme HD

I'm a recent FIOS convert from Optimum. After about 10 days I can say I am very pleased for the most part with the new service. Picture quality is better and I like the guide and DVR features better than my Optimum STB.
The one problem I have had surfaced on the day of my installation. I ordered the Extreme HD package along with the movie promo package for 3 months. When I went to test my new gear with the Golf Channel HD it showed "not subscribed" and my installer explained that I wouldn't be getting that (or Tennis, which I also wanted) if I wasn't also subscribed to a Sport Package.
I pulled out the channel line-up document I was given when I placed the order at  Verizon kiosk. It's the "Downstate New York August 2009" color brochure. In it there is a big red box for "Extreme HD" that says (quoting now) "EXTREME HD includes all channels in the box below & in FIOS TV Local. Additional subscriptions may be added. To order this package or other subscription packages go to verizon.com/fiostvcentral." All of the sport channels, including Golf, Tennis, NFL, etc. are listed in the box and there is nothing to suggest that additional subscriptions are needed. That's what the salesman confirmed.
So, my poor installer guy said he couldn't do anything. I called Verizon, got shuffled around a bit, and finally got to someone who tried explaining that the brochure in my hand wasn't actually the one for the area I live in. And yet my community is one of those listed under Local Programming.
In the end what he offered to do was to give me the additional sport package subscription for a discount for the next 12 months. At that point I was tired of spending time on the phone. But I am still not happy about it.
Has anybody had a similar experience? It's the only black mark on my FIOS so far, but it's a pretty big one.

Believe me, I have been over this thing with a magnifying glass looking for something like that. It just isn't there. Of course, there is the standard language at the end of the brochure that "Programming services offered within each package are subject to change..."
Still, it feels a bit like bait and switch. I was getting Golf and Tennis (both SD and HD) in Optimum for no additional charges.

  • What model of BT Vision box is needed for BT Sport...

What model of BT Vision box is needed in order to actually successfully receive BT Sport with a viewing card?
I know its got to be black not an old white one but is their a particular model or anything?

    Hi sfield3,
Thanks for posting. Which box do you currently have? If it's the older one you'll need to change it to the Vision+ or YouView box.

  • Lost HD & Sport channels on black BT Vision box

Hi, I was advised to do a factory re-set on my black BT Vision box because it was performing so poorly but since doing so I can no longer get my HD or sport channels (BT Sport 1 & 2, Sky Sports 1,2 & 5) back.
Prior to doing the reset I only had the HD & sport channels as I had such a poor aerial in the roof. Doing the factory re-set meant I had to have a functioning aerial to re-scan for all the channels so I fixed the aerial & whilst it means I can now get all the freeview channels I can't now get any of the HD or sport channels back that I pay for!
BT initially thought it was an issue at the exhange but having gone through several re-sets, re-scans, re-registers & re-boots they've finally agreed to get an engineer out.
    In another two weeks time!
Anyone got any suggestions as to what might be causing this & therefore how I might be able to fix without waiting for the engineer visit?
    thanks

Either the entitlements are missing or you are on the wrong version of the software. This can sometimes happen initially after a reset.
What does it say for Help & Settings > Settings > System Information > BT TV Release ?
If it ends in C (such as 8.7.1C) then you are on the version for using a viewing card.
If it ends in E (such as 8.7.1E) then you are on the version for multicast channels over broadband which is what you need.
If on the C version then try the following.
Help & Settings > Settings > System Information > Reset Registration
Help & Settings > Settings > System Information > Check for Upgrade
In my experience that usually encourages it to download and install the correct E version again.

  • Can I stream the BT Sport app to my TV?

Can I stream the BT Sport app to my TV?
The BT Sport app is compatible with both Apple TV and Google Chromecast devices, allowing you to watch video from the app on your television.
For either to work, the device on which you are running the BT Sport app must be on the same Wifi network as your Apple TV or Chromecast.
Please note, to get the best quality experience on your TV we recommend a minimum broadband line speed of 2mbps.
    Apple TV
Apple TV set-up instructions are available here
Once you have set up your Apple TV according to the manufacturer's instructions and put your TV on the correct HDMI channel, access the app as normal on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
If the device senses an Apple TV on the same network, an Airplay icon (pictured) will appear in the bottom right corner of the video player.
Tap this icon and select 'Apple TV' from the menu that appears. The video will then be sent to your television.
When you are using Airplay functionality within the BT Sport app, the video will not also appear on the screen of your device.
    Google Chromecast
Chromecast set-up instructions are available here
You can 'cast' video to a Chromecast from either the iOS or Android version of the BT Sport app.
First, set up your Chromecast according to the manufacturer's instructions and put your TV on the correct HDMI channel.
If the device running the BT Sport app is on the same Wifi network as a fully set-up Chromecast, a casting icon appears in the top right-hand corner of the app home screen.
When the user taps the casting icon, a pop-up window appears displaying all Chromecast devices detected. The user needs to select the Chromecast that they wish to cast to, regardless of whether they only have a single device.
Once the device is connected to the Chromecast, the casting icon in the top right corner is illuminated blue
When the casting icon is illuminated, it does NOT mean that the page is mirroring to your TV. It simply means that, when you do start playing a video on the app, it will cast to your TV.
A viewer can also start casting while a video is already playing within the app, by following exactly the same process.
When you are casting from the BT Sport app to your television, the video will not also appear on the screen of your device.
If you are having problems streaming the BT Sport channels to your Chromecast, it is recommended that you try using the extender that is included in the Chromecast packaging, as it may be that the Chromecast is not receiving a strong enough Wifi signal from your router.
You can find more help via this link How to stream through Chromecast on the BT Sport App

  • 7 hours, 3 complaints, no reply and no BT Sport

Unbelievable. I know you're all having similar issues, but just in case someone at BT is actually listening (as our complaints and phone calls are going unanswered), here's our experience. If a mod can arrange the Exceptions team to call ME I'd appreciate that.
    COMPLAINT 1:
    Dear BT
We have been BT customers for a long time, and switched to a triple play deal a couple of years ago, taking phone, broadband and TV from you. I assume this is what you want from all customers, and we were happy with the deal.
I was even more pleased when I learned that BT Sport was coming, and I signed up early so not to miss out on subscription options. However, now I am trying to add BT Sports, being a long term committed customer of BT has placed me at a SIGNIFICANT DISADVANTAGE.
As I write, I am currently on hold to your customer contact team. In total, over the past 2 days, I've been on the phone for 6 HOURS trying to get this resolved. Let me take you through some of the pain of that 6 (yes 6!) hours.
    1. Having received no communication via email or through MyBT in advance to enable me to access BT Sport, I waited until the launch. Being a BT customer, having BT Broadband and BT Vision, I was aware that we do not live in an Infinity area but the communications seemed to indicate that I would just be able to start watching online as soon as BT Sports was available. So I logged in through MyBT (having made sure I had access to it a few weeks ago), but when I tried to add BT Sports / access BT Sports, I received an error message asking me to contact BT. So I did.
    2. Having used the QueueBuster feature (which is brilliant - why can't all your departments have it?) I received a call back within 10 minutes, in which the advisor informed me that 7.9Mb was not fast enough to receive BT Sport. I asked about the non-BT Infinity option, to which I was advised I could not receive. I was doubtful, but thought this may be possible, and so asked for help to access the app. He said he couldn't help me with this, and so I was transfered.
    3. Eventually I got through to the technical help team. It took half an hour for them to figure out I could not access the app as I had not SUBSCRIBED to BT Sport. I asked HOW I was meant to subscribe, as I had received no communication on how to do this and every link in your utterly confusing website ended up in the same message. They passed me to the BT Sales team to organise this.
    4. After another long wait I eventually got through to another department. When I explained my situation (all I wanted to do was watch BT Sports on my laptop, and I am a BT Broadband customer) they said I needed to subscribe. I said I know this, that's why I've been put through to them. After another 20 minutes going around in circles I was advised to go through to BT Sport on 0800800801. I asked to be transfered, which they could not do, so I hung up and called BT Sport.
    5. I spoke to 2/3 advisors at BT Sport, who were able to identify that the cause of the problem was that I was on an OLD triple-play package, and that they could not process the order. All tried to transfer me through to the Exceptions team. All calls failed - just cutting off after 20 minutes on the call.
    6. I gave up after 3 hours of going round in circles and decided to try again in the morning. I called back at 8.30am this morning. Now, at 11.30, it has just been resolved.
    7. I called at 8.30 and spoke to Richard, who tried to be helpful but couldn't get any further either, and so transfered me to Exceptions. He tried to hang on but understandably after 5 minutes he had to transfer direct. The call then inexplicably dropped.
    8. I called back again, and was put straight into the queue for Exceptions. After 40 minutes, the call was finally answered and the helpful Jeanette took up the cause. She explained that our package was an unusual situation (WHY?) due to it being on the old system. She tried to unpick it and process the order, but after half an hour her system would not let her go any further. So, diligently she asked to call me back after she'd reset her system. This she did, and half an hour later again (at around 10.30) she was finally successful in putting our package back together. For this we needed a new Vision box, a new router and a new viewing card. Great, sorted I thought.
    9. I checked online for the order, which showed up fine on the email confirmation. I then double checked by tracking online, and found all the equipment was due to be delivered to our old address! So, I had an email to the right address, all account details in the right address, all details confirmed on calls (at least 9 times) to the right address, and our old address in on the delivery details?
    10. I phoned back after again FAILING to change the details online. This time the call took around 40 minutes, and I was transfered to 2 departments just to check and confirm that the wrong delivery address HAD been allocated, and to change this to the account address. Something that I was lucky to catch - and I only caught on double checking online due to the PAINFUL experience I've had with BT over the last 2 days.
Finally, I'm hoping all is resolved. The package I believe we now have includes:
    1. Line rental paid upfront for 1 year
    2. BT calls package (weekends and evenings) at £2 per month
    3. BT Unlimited Broadband at £16 per month
    4. BT Vision Essentials pack at £5 per month (including BT Sports)
    5. A new router
    6. A new BT Vision box
    7. A viewing card
This has been a hard slog. And surely it should not be like this for a customer who has been with you for a long time and has taken all services from you for a long time.
In fact, I'm sure it would have been much easier for Sky customers to switch to BT or add BT to their existing Sky package than it was for this BT customer to get an additional BT package!
I hope you can understand my EXTREME frustration with this process, and the time it has cost me to do this. Indeed, it would have been quicker for me to switch everything to another provider I think.
So, I would certainly like to be recompensed for this SEVERE INCONVENIENCE. I am happy to pay the £23 per month agreed, but I would like all upfront fees (line rental / BT Hub / Vision Box / Viewing Card / Delivery fees) reimburded as a gesture of goodwill and recognition that it really should not have been that hard.
I look forward to your positive response to this matter.
COMPLAINT 2 (After the equipment was delivered to the wrong address)
Now I don't have complaint 2, but it was something along the lines of why did I bother when you ended up sending my package 300 miles away from where I now live after confirming everything with you. TWICE.
COMPLAINT 3: (after getting the equipment, minus a remote control, and finding out it's useless anyway)
    Dear BT
I've written so often that I almost feel like an old friend. Or a jilted lover, given that all of my messages fall on deaf ears, my calls aren't returned and there's never anyone to answer my call.
You've really outdone yourself this time.
You'll recall on my last love letter that I complained about the delivery of our new equipment going to the wrong address after I had confirmed with you that it would go to the right address? And this after 6 hours of trying to unpick our LEGACY package so I could adorn you with more money and you could tie me in for another 12 months of loveless partnership?
Well we eventually got our equipment (delivered from 300 miles away - no thanks to you), and had the joy of installing our new YouView box, only to find no remote control. The irony of it was that a new box was ordered as I had requested a new control for our broken one on our old Vision Plus box. So, back on the phone I go to try to get a control sent to us PDQ, and guess what...
    1. You don't need a viewing card for a YouView box (oh, yes you charged me £10 for a Viewing Card too)
    2. I can't get BT Sport (which was the whole purpose of this utterly fruitless exercise) on a YouView box with copper wires?
So why oh why have you sent me a new YouView box AND CHARGED ME FOR IT when I can't use it to get what I want? AND WHERE'S THE REMOTE CONTROL!
So apparently the magical, mysterious Exceptions team have the power to put everything right and make it all work. Except they're the ones who messed up in the first time. And your oh so lovely customer assistant assured me they aren't as busy as they were a couple of weeks ago. Well I've been on the phone 50 minutes now and still got a ring tone, and I know the lines will cut off in 30 minutes as the department closes at 8pm.
    So, to sum up:
    1. You've charged me god knows how much and tied me in for 12 months
    2. You've removed our ability to record live TV on our Vision + box, and deleted ALL of our precious recordings
    3. Sent me a Viewing card that doesn't work (it's a 118 card and my box asks my to enter a 119 number) AND charged me for it
    4. Sent me a new box for which I don't NEED a viewing card.
    5. Sent me a new box WITHOUT a remote control
    6. Sent me a new box with which I can't get BT Sport
    7. You are charging me £5 a month for LESS TV functionality
    8. I have wasted 7 hours jumping through your hoops
    9. I have sent you 2 previous letters of complaint - this is my third. ALL so far are unanswered.
    10. Delivered the wrong order to the wrong address AND CHARGED ME FOR IT. AND I got the redelivery done myself as it was quicker than getting through to you!
    Unbelievable. Shameful. Embarrassing.
It's actually worth spending £100 a month with Sky just so I don't have to deal with you.
In fact, I think I might just do that unless I get a pretty speedy response and an incredible gesture of love from you soon.
    Much love

  • I have just bought a 5D Mark III and have a questions on sports settings.

I am shooting at my sons rugby game and sports day in the coming weeks and would like to make sure my camera is set up correctly. I am using a 70-200 mm lens 2.8 with 2x converter, ( so goes to 5.6 when using).
    - I am shooting Al Servo
    - evaluative metering
    - shutter above 1000
    - custom controls - shutter butt. half-press
                                - AF - ON
                                - AE - lock
                                - Lens - AF stop
    - Picture Stype - portrait
    AF settings
    - Case 2 - continue to track subjects, ignoring possible obstacles
    - Al Servo 1st image priority
    - selectable AF point - 61 points
    - select AF area selec mode - all 6 boxes are checked..is this correct?
    - AF area selection method - main dial
    - orientation linked AF point - same for both vert/horiz
    - manual AF pt selec. pattern - continous
    - AF point display during focus - selected (constant)
I really appreciate any help on these settings, I would like to get the settings correct and am feeling a bit clueless right now.
    thank you

    I have a 5D III ... I don't shoot sports but I can offer some info.
First and foremost... if you don't already have this (becuase it doesn't come with the camera), go to this page and in the lower left corner is a link to download the Canon guide-book on the AF system that your camera has.  It's a 47 page book on JUST using the focus system on your camera.  It says "1D X" but if you read the page you'll see that it was really intended for the 1D X and the 5D III.
    http://www.learn.usa.canon.com/resources/articles/2012/1dx_guidebook.shtml
Next, Rudy Winston (Canon USA) has a video series on using the new features of the 1D X (in 5 parts) and the first 3 parts explain features of the auto-focus system:
    Part 1:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DM6KkQcNI8w
    Part 2:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4dDzIDB6_A
    Part 3:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7n2cWfLk8s
You want AI Servo -- since your subject distance may be changing and this provides for continuous focus.
Evaluative metering is fine since this will evaluate all metering zones.
Shutter above 1/1000th is also fine -- this will freeze action
On the custom controls, each of the ten options will tell you what the camera will do when you press that control.
For example:  You might want to use "back button focus" behavior.  For this you would set the "Shutter button half-press" behavior to "Metering start" (not not AF), THEN set the "AF-ON" button to "Metering and AF start".  This way the camera will ONLY focus if you press the AF-ON button with your thumb.
All this is probably not necessary with the 5D III's focusing system because the whole point of you picking "Case 2: Continue to track subjects, ignoring possible obstacles" is that it eliminates the need to configure the camera for back-button focus.  It's one of the benefits of shooting with a 5D III or 1D X body.  With any other body... you'd configure back-button focus behavior.
Your "AI Servo 1st image priority" and "AI Servo 2nd image priority" control whether the camera uses "focus priority" (wont shoot until focus is confirmed) or "release priority" (will shoot when you press the button whether it was focused or not) or a blending of the two.  The "AI Servo 2nd image priority" affects the behavior of all subsequent frames after the first frame when using continuous shooting mode.
Selectable AF point - 61 points means the camera is allowed to use ANY of the focus points to lock focus.  Keep in mind that the camera will gravitate to the nearest subject when using this mode.  If other players are closer than your son and you want to make sure the camera focuses on your son then you'd want to use a different focus mode to narrow the area where the camera looks for focus.
The "AF area select mode" doesn't affect shooting... when you decide to change focus modes, you can switch off certain focus modes you don't ever think you'd use.  For example... if you have two favorite modes and you just want to swtich between them quickly, you can turn the other modes off.  That way you don't have to keep pusing the button to change focus modes until the mode you want appears (because each time you push the mode change button it cycles to the next mode.)
AF area selection mode - main dial.  that just means when using a mode OTHER than the 61-point AF mode (where you just want to use some points) the way you'll tell the camera WHICH points you want to use is by turning the wheel.  I use use the 8-way navigator on the back).
Orientation linked AF means that if you tell the camera you want to pick some focus points in, say... the "upper right" corner and you are holding the camera level (horizontally)... what should it do when you turn the camera on it's side?  If the orientation is NOT linked, then the points you pick are the points you pick regardless of the camera orientation.  If the orientation IS linked, then it means your selection of points in the "upper right corner" is will be maintained... so when you flip the camera on it's side, it'll automatically swtich AF points so that the poitns are STILL in the "upper right corner".
The manual AF point selection pattern tells the camera if the focus points should "wrap around" when you keep navigating off the edge of the screen.  e.g. I use joystick... so this means that if I'm already on the right-most AF point... and I nudge the joystick right one more time ... it'll actually "wrap" back around to the left edge.  If I turn this off then when I hit the right edge and nudge to go right one more time nothing will happen (because I'm already as far to the right as it can go.)
Get out and practice with the AF system controls -- it takes a bit of learning but you'll find it's quite powerful and once you get the feel for it you will really appreciate having it.

  • Check you are set up to watch BT Sport via the app...

    Hello all
We’re aware that a number of you are having problems accessing the BT Sport app. We’re looking into the specific scenarios some of you have described but we thought it would be useful to post up this general guidance as well.
Check you’re ready to watch on the app
If you have ordered BT Sport to watch on BT TV, YouView or Sky you should be set up to use the app as well. All you need to do is download it. You can do that by going to the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
If you want to watch on the app or online only, not on TV
If you are a BT Broadband customer and you just want to watch BT Sport online or via the app (not via TV) you need to activate it first. To activate, just log in to My BT, scroll down and click on BT Sport and follow the steps. If you have more than one account number in your My BT profile, remember to switch onto the one your BT Broadband is billed to.
    Thanks

Well, it's the 10th September, and my BT Broadband is finally activated; but still no BT Sport via the Sky box
I've tried to link my Sky viewing card to mt BT account online, but I just get the message
"Good news! You've already got access to BT Sport. Watch online at btsport.com or via our Apple and Android apps. If you'd like to talk to us about upgrading your BT Sport Pack so you can watch via your TV please call us on 0800 731 0286."
What? I don't want to watch on a computer or phone. I want to watch it on my TV.
Anyway, I called the number, waited on hold for 26 minutes before being cut off.
    What is going on?

  • How to Cut, Label, Save sports clips (40Hours, 500GB, 1080p AVCHD Source) for creating season highlight video in Premiere Elements 13?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can provide to help me.
I have filmed all of my son's basketball games this season and we are heading into the playoffs soon. I would like to find an efficient way to cut, label, and save video clips to create a highlight movie for the team banquet.
All video is AVCHD and saved on hard drive. A few games were recorded with a Sony camcorder 1920x1980i30(*.mt2s), the rest with my Canon DSLR1920x1080p30(*.mov). I will have about 35 or 40 hours of video by the end of the season. Probably around half a terabyte.
I own licenses to the following video editors.
Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.
Adobe Premiere Elements 13 that I just purchased bundled with Photoshop Elements 13.
I struggled with burning AVCHD disks with the Sony software, so did the Adobe trial and everything worked great so I bought it.
I went through one game and clipped the highlights, but can't figure out how to label them, or export them as individual highlight files.  I guess I would be OK doing this all in a single project if I knew that it would work, and if I could find a way to label the clips so that I can arrange them without having to preview the clip every time.
I am open to using other tools if they don't cost too much, free would be awesome since I don't do this professionally.
    Thanks!

    GreatFun,
Yes, while I couldn't spend much time today at work reviewing the link ATR provided, at a high level I like ATR's approach as well, and it definitely is advantageous for that use case and rendering only the final product. My use case is a bit different. My son's high school webcasts each match which I then pull off their Youtube channel (with their permission, of course) and use their camera angles and their play-by-play guys commentary (again, with permission) to augment my video (which are closer to the action and much better quality than theirs, I must say). The kids get a kick out of hearing the play-by-play guy yell their name when the score or make a great play. So that is why I produce my clips separately. To me it is cleaner and I can store them for later use outside PE or any other project.
Anyway, regarding the actual shooting of the video. I've been doing this for awhile and there are two elements that are a must for any soccer shoot: a good solid tripod with fluid panning ability, and height. Getting above the action (like atop bleachers), for the most part, is an advantage most of the time. That is why professional sports are shot from above. While I do like to take a few minutes of every game to get on the sidelines and film at field level (this adds a bit of variety to the finished product, and you can't beat the ambient sounds you get when the players grunt and groan), you just can't capture the flow of the game from that angle.
The purpose of your video will dictate your composition. Are you trying to always focus on one player (one particular forward, back, midfielder or keeper) and get their every move (for the purpose of say, college recruitment purposes), regardless of where the ball or action is? If so, you'll want to stay tight on them, but not too tight - know where the action is and use the rule of thirds here with your subject player always in the left or right most third. Let the action, in this case, the ball, enter from the opposite third your player is in to allow the viewer to see a glimpse of what led up to your subject being engaged with the action. If your subject is a keeper, that is the easiest position to focus on of all. When filming just a keeper, I like to set my tripod up along the touch line about 30 yards from the goal line (again, elevated if possible), compose the shot using thirds again so as to let the viewer see the passing action as the goal is attacked. Its great to get a clip of the keeper making a save, but it can be much more impressive and entertaining to a viewer to see how it all unfolds and the choices the goalie has to make to be in the right position to make the save.
If your intent is to film the action where the ball is, regardless of the player or team that has the ball (like most professional sports coverage), it is much better to cast a wide composition. As you mention, it is difficult to find that sweet spot between being too far out and missing the intimacy, or being too close in and simply giving the viewer a headache as the shots zip around as you try and follow the ball. I've found the sweet spot for me is to shoot always keeping a quarter of the pitch in view. This allows for tight enough composition to keep the viewer engaged with the action, without having to jerk the shot around so much as to make them throw up. Soccer is quite fast paced at the high school level and there is quite a bit of "switching the field", where a wing will lob the ball completely across the width of the field to the opposite wing. If you are in too tight, you'll have to pan very quickly to the receiving side, and if done a lot, will not make for very entertaining viewing. There are other examples of why you shouldn't be too tight, but you get the idea.
I've probably written too long a post as it is for this forum, but I hope I've given you some things to consider on your next shoot.
    Good health to you!

  • How can I erase old sports schedules

I have schedules for 5 sports teams.
    Football, baseball and hockey.
I have the settings to remove anything over 60 days, HOWEVER :
    (1)
Last years football and hockey full season games are still showing.
    (2)
The full baseball schedule is showing from april, which is over 60 days.
    (3)
Next seasons football and hockey schedules are out but they are no listed in ical.
I have the subscriptions set up thru Apple download and i rechecked it.
    Any thoughts on why:
I still have old baseball dates and why I do not have this seasons football dates but still have last season listed ?
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Greg,
I got the links from the Apple web site for subscriptions.
Those calendars have been noted to be slow to update. You can use Apple - iCal - Feedback to express your desire for an update.
Try using team, division, or other sources for more up-to-date calendars.
As I said in my first post, iCal will not delete events from a subscribed calendar even though you have selected the preference to delete older events.
    ;~)

  • IMovie - How do I change the sports team editor labels such as players age, height and weight?

Cannot find a simple (or any) solution to this problem.
Does anyone know how to change the player label headings on iMovie Sports Team Editor? I don't want to display the players weight, height and age and have no idea how to change the labe headings.
    Cheers,
    Flying_Prop

Instead of posting HTML here, which the board is not really designed to handle, could you edit your post to clear that out and provide the URL to the page that has the problem?
When I look at the home page at http://www.falmouthgoatrace.org/ I don't see a problem.
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies. Save any pending work first.
While viewing a page on the site, you can call the dialog to remove the cookie using either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • Looking for a sports video camera that is compatible with the mac

Looking for a video camera that can record sports well and is also compatible with the mac. I've been using iMovie to edit videos for a highlight reel of my highschool soccer games that I coach.

I like Sony HD MiniDV (HDV) Handycam Camcorder - HDRFX1000, but I have also used several older Sony (DCR-TRV17 and DCR-TRV70) and Canon (VIXIA HV20, VIXIA HV30, and VIXIA HV40) tape-based Firewire-equipped camcorders with good results.
I prefer tape-based Firewire-equipped cameras because of their IEEE 1394 transfer speed, compatibility with iMovie HD, and ability to serve as the source recording directly into iMovie when desired.  If none of these characteristics is important to you, other Mac-compatible camcorders with suitable zoom ranges and lens speeds for the light levels you encounter should also do nicely for recording at your games.
You do not say which iMovie version you are using, but you can find about known compatible camcorders by searching for the info in a search like this one.

  • Ipod Screen is black after getting "damp" in my sports bra on a run. .

Went for a run...forgot my arm band so I put my iPod just inside my sports bra. My iPod quit working 1/2 way through my run! When I came home, it was DEAD! My computer wouldn't recognize it. So, I put it in a bowl of rice. The next morning, it had to restore and it could recognize it...but now there is no backlight! Is there any hope?

Should have let it sit in the rice for at least 48-72 hours.
If you cannot find a solution on the DIY iPod Repair website, take it in to your local Apple Store or AASP.  If you are no longer under warranty and/or have AppleCare, it may be cheaper to purchase another iPod Nano.
     Good luck!
