No build in templates?
Why do i not have the build in templates like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d635eFFMN2I&feature=related in Motion 4?
And where can i get them?
And where can i get other templates to Motion 4 for free?
If you moved them or moved the application, or installed it incorrectly the app might be having trouble finding them. Or if you don't know where to look.
As far as your second question, you can get free templates by making them yourself.

Building a template - groups and formulas
CR2008
I'm trying to build a template to standardize some reports. I can get the header and the formatting fine: however, when I created a formula for Page M of N, the formula disappeared, and the field was replaced with one of the header fields. Does this just not ever work, or am I missing something?
The documentation says "If an existing report is used as a template, these report objects will be applied to the new report: Fields, Groups, Summary fields". However, when I tried to save a grouping and apply it to an existing report, nothing happened - only the formatting came across.
Thanks for any and all help!
Edit: I added a TemplateField to my template and grouped on it, and applied it -- didn't work. However, when I then added grouping to the report, and re-applied the template, the new groups picked up the formatting from last time. When I added more groups than there were in the template, the newest groups were formatted the same as the last group I had specified. The Custom Group Name, which I had specified to be TemplateField2, (the same as the second grouping) still wasn't picked up, though. When I only specified a single TemplateField in the detail line, the Template Expert split the detail section into seven stacked detail sections, so that won't be much use.
So, the other question remains: am I completely out of luck with formulas? And functions, for that matter? Thanks again!
Edit again: I tried adding a Summary field to the template. While combining a text field and a summary field didn't work, dropping them next to each other did. Also, it only worked for the same summary: when I accidentally did a Sum instead of a DistinctCount, as the template was expecting, the formatting was ignored.

Edited by: Garrett Fitzgerald on May 7, 2009 3:34 PMHello Rashmi,
I'm not sure if I understood your question, but it seems you have to put your key figures in columns, together with time, if, for example, you want to show information like this:
......................................................... 06.2008 07.2008 ...
.......................................................... kf1 kf2.... kf1 kf2
Org->Channel->customer->product
Please let me know if is this you are looking for.

Hi,
We're in the process of evaluating XML Publisher to see if it will suit our needs for pulling all our legacy reports together. We have a lot of reports that have extremely simple formatting requirements. Most of them are just in the form of:
select foo as "Foo", bar as "Bar", baz as "Baz"
from a, b, c
where ....;
The only thing that really changes, output-wise, is the number of columns and the name of the columns. Is there a way to build a template that would be able to handle ALL of these queries with a standard look, so we don't have to build one for every single one?
Thanks,
StephenHi Stephen
Certainly can, two approaches one more restrictive than the other.
1. You can build a template that will render any XML data into a tabular or form layout ie it does not matter what the XML tags are. In the template you ignore them and just layout whatever you have in the XML. Its going to be fixed output and users are not going to be able to change the layout v easily.
2. If all your extractions generate XML with exactly the same tags then you can build one template for all of them. Advantage over 1 is that its going to be easier to change the layouts if needed.

Determining previous TFS 2013/2013 Build Process Template
I am looking at previous builds in TFS 2012 using a custom Build Process Template, and while it is easy to determine what template will be used for my Next build, how do I determine what was used on a previous build? Example: TeamA builds ProjectA
using TemplateA. Then they say something was not correct, and they switch to a new TemplateB. I can see TemplateB in their configuration, but need to make changes to TemplateA (it has custom hooks already in place for other things that are needed).
How do I determine what TemplateA was? It is not in any of the ActivityLogs or in their Build Logs. Just for the sake of argument, assume that there are 100s of build process templates, not easy to determine which was originally used.Hi Rob,
Thanks for your post.
Yes, the build template name information not be included/generated in TFS build log or
ActivityLogs. If there’s something was not correct in TemplateA, we usually edit on this TemplateA and save it TFS Source Control, then reusing it in build definition.
As far as I know there’s no default way to determine which previous build templates be used in one build definition before. For this scenario, please
submit it to User Voice site at: http://visualstudio.uservoice.com/forums/121579-visual-studio. Microsoft engineers will evaluate them seriously.

Can not build a template based page with customized page type.
I built a customized page type (with persepective attribute) and wanted to build pages with this type. If the new pages do not based on any template, it works fine. However, if I wanted to use a template, the page type was set back to "standard"!
Steps to reproduce it:
1. create a new page type - test page type.
2. create a new template = test template.
3. create a new page - test page.
3.1 choose the page type to be "test page type"
3.2 fill in the form including the new attribute info.
3.2 choose the page template to be 'test template"
3.3 click finish
4. click the properties of "test page", it shows that the page type is "standard" and the new attribute information is gone!
If in step 3.2, no template is chosen, the properties of the new page shows the page type is "test page type".
I tried to find a workaround.
1. create a page with "test page type".
2. covert the new page to template.
I got this error message:
Error while copying page. (WWC-44262)
(WWC-00000)
Looks like customized page type and template can not coexist. Is this a bug?How long should the upgrade take? And should it be attempted on a production (infrastructure on machine 1/middle-tier on machine 2) Windows 2000 architecture? Or should be wait for 9.0.4? Or ... should I ask this in a TAR? Thanks!

Git CI/CD w/ Default Build Process Template does not build all Projects in Solution?
Good evening,
I have a VSO hosted git based project that hosts a Azure Cloud Service, particularly one VS solution (.sln) that contains the Azure Cloud Service project (.ccproj), the Web Role .csproj, some auxiliary projects (again .csproj) and one (MS)Test project (again
.csproj). All these .csproj are enabled to be build in both Release and Debug configs (everything's Any CPU).
Now inside Azure I did link the corresponding Azure Cloud Service to that VSO project, Azure/Vso did prepare the _CI (or was it _CD?) build definition with the
GitContinuousDeploymentTemplate12.xaml selected and in general deployment works perfectly fine
BUT
.. but the problem is that I really don't know how to solve after hours of fiddling - the *.Tests is not built and therefore no tests are fond and run.. and I wonder why. More precisely, none of the projects that are not referenced by the Cloud Service's Web
Role (it's the only role atm for the CS) are actually built.
Not sure whether this is a Cloud Service build thing or one of the Git Build Template, but how and where can I make sure all projects inside the selected .sln (see screenshot) ARE actually built as defined in the selected/defined Solution config? What's going
on here?
Thanks,
-Jörg
Here's my local view in combination with the build / process definition. As you can see the .tests.dll IS built as part of Release & AnyCpu for the .sln, but when running the build on VSO (& downloading the drop folder), it is NOT included/built..
looking at the logs also reveals that the *.tests.csproj is NOT built.Good Morning!
thanks for the reply but unfortunately I cannot reference the Test Project from the CS Web Role as this is the very same project the Test Project actually contains tests for and circular dependencies (Test > Web Role Project and > back to the Test
Project is not possible).
The logs themselves just reflect the observed behaviour: they do not mention or contain the .Tests.csproj at all (or the other projects not referenced directly by the Web Role) and even though the selected solution does contain these projects, strangely
the first few lines in the msbuild log are:
Build started 1/7/2015 12:03:49 AM.Project "C:\a\src\Sources\Backend\Backend.sln" on node 1 (MyProject_Backend:Publish target(s)).
ValidateSolutionConfiguration:
Building solution configuration "Release|Any CPU".
Project "C:\a\src\Sources\Backend\Backend.sln" (1) is building "C:\a\src\Sources\Backend\MyProject.Backend\MyProject.Backend.ccproj" (2) on node 1 (Publish target(s)).
..so why is it only or specifically picking up the Azure Cloud Service .ccproj / project as the only buildable target & why not what's specified in the Solution? What's the whole point of tests if they are for some odd reason dropped?
Strangely enough, this only appears to be happening with the GIT template - I had this project originally in TFVC and did the same thing - linked from Azure to that TFVC project (same solution) and with that particular build template it
did build & run the tests.
Any ideas / suggestions or if you need any more specifics, please let me know.
Thanks!

DW11 Build 4964 - Templates slow to update
When I update a template file on my relatively new and fast PC running Windows7 with 6GB of memory, it takes 15-30 seconds for the log file to fully update. Often I have to place the cursor in the log file window and click return. Why should this happen?
PS - just noted that when I update a template not all pages attached to the template update - only the pages that are open in DW. These wierd behaviors have only started to happen when I upgraded from DW8 to DW in CS5.Good question that I ask myself also, but not just updating Titles. Same time lag for updating a Photoshop image that sits inside Premiere, or updating an After Effects composition inside Premiere.
Sometimes I think I can 'trick it' into speeding up by 'saving' the Premiere project, but then most times I think I am tricking myself. -

Configuration Template Builder WL8.1 does not work
Hello,
After spending nearly 2 days now trying to get a Configuration Template
built, I've concluded this simply does not work. Has anyone used the
Config Template builder to package a semi-complex application on top of WLI?
I'm trying to have 2 of my applications, the JMS and JDBC resources,
and a WLI event generator packaged up for easy deployment to someone
else's server configuration. The problem with this is that there are
required resources for WLI, namely a database. The Pointbase database
included for WLI does not get included in the template automatically.
There are also some flat-out bugs:
If you choose to include a resource adapter "application", such as
jms-xa-adp.rar, the template builder does not bundle this in the
template and deploy it correctly. The template builder restricts you to
putting applications in the relative path starting at ./
For jms-xa-adp.rar, its original location is in $WL_HOME/server/lib, and
the template builder defaults to put it in ./lib of your template.
However, when you create a domain with the template, jms-xa-adp.rar does
not get placed in your ./lib directory. This causes you to then go and
manually edit your config.xml to point back at $WL_HOME/server/lib or to
manually copy jms-xa-adp.rar into your ./lib directory (which the
template mechanism should do for you).
Relative paths in the config.xml file require you to execute the config
builder from the directory of the domain you are making a template for.
The template builder should instead be smart enough to realize that
relative paths in the config.xml file are relative to the directory that
the config.xml is in, not the one you are running the template builder
from. You'll get an error when trying to create the template cause it
won't find the resources if you're not in that directory.
If anyone has successfully used this to package a WLI application in a
template, please share your experiences and how to do so. In the
meantime, I'm claiming there is no way to nicely package up a server
configuration for a WLI app in Weblogic, and this is a big shortcoming.
Weblogic needs a simple transferrable way of creating server
configurations (it tries to do this with the template, but that is
failing). With JBoss, for example, you simply copy your server directory
into another installation. This doesn't work with Weblogic unfortunately
because it puts hard-coded paths in the config.xml file.
ThanksRuss,
Thank you for the detailed responses. The only one I'm currently
struggling with still is the #5, with the scripts between the two. One
of the major benefits of using a J2EE App Server is supposed to be the
portability between servers. I find it disconcerting that BEA Weblogic
restricts me to the platform I created the domain on by creating
platform-specific startup/shutdown scripts for only the platform created
on. It's understandable that a script converter would be difficult, but
at least both the .sh/.cmd files should be created from the first time
you make a domain. If the user only wants one or the other, they can
delete the appropriate one. It's also understandable that the
users/deployers shouldn't have to manually convert a startup/shutdown
script to take the domain to a different box.
JBoss clearly has BEA beat on ease of deployment here. Their model is
the concept I'm thinking of: you have some generic startup/shutdown
scripts that can load a platform-independent server configuration. You
truly can copy directories as-is between JBoss installations.
I was hoping to package up a server domain for use on any of the
supported platforms, but since I don't have the time to manually convert
the startup/shutdown scripts, I'm going to have to tell people it's only
for Solaris now.
Hopefully BEA can fix this in a future SP. There's no need for this
platform-dependency. Also, if the Windows version can generate both
scripts at creation time, then the Solaris should be able to do this as
well (or at least give you the option).
Thanks again for the replies

Hi Steven,
I have several comments and questions about your last two posts. I will try to
address them in order.
1) "The Pointbase database included for WLI does not get included in the template
automatically."
By default the template builder only includes the *.cmd and *.sh files in the
template from your domain directory. If you begin building with an existing
domain template all files that were in the template will get included. This was
done because there is no way for the builder to automatically determine all the
files that are required by your template/domain and we steered away from recursively
including all files from the directory so that unused files were not needlessly
included. We can extrapolate some files based on the application paths in the
config.xml, but the rest is left up to the template builder to be aware of what
is needed for their domain to run. So, if you need the Pointbase *.dbn and *.wal
files included in your template just select these files on the ?Add Files? panel
of the template builder and add them to the ?Domain Directory?.
2) ?If you choose to include a resource adapter "application", such as jms-xa-adp.rar,
the template builder does not bundle this in the template and deploy it correctly.?
The template builder considers application files to be in two categories: Imported
or Internal. When you are at the ?Add Applications? panel of the builder you
will see a checklist of all the applications that are in the domain you selected.
On the right hand side there are two text fields. The top one displays the application
path as it is currently set in the config.xml of that domain. The bottom field
will be different depending on what category the application falls into. As you
click on each application in the list, you may notice that the bottom field may
change from an editable field titled ?Imported Application Path? to a non-editable
field titled ?Internal Application Path?. The difference between the two categories
is that an ?Imported? application?s files will be included in the template jar.
An ?Internal? application?s files will not be included in the template jar because
they are considered internal to the weblogic installation. The jms-xa-adp.rar
should fall into the internal category and should not get included in your template.
From what you are describing it sounds like the builder attempted to import that
application when it should not have. In an attempt to recreate the problem you
are seeing I deployed that Connector Module through the WLS console and ended
up with an application path of ?C:\bea\weblogic81\server\lib? where ?C:\bea\weblogic81?
is my WL_HOME (a.k.a. USER_INSTALL_DIR). If I then attempt to build a template
from this domain, the builder recognizes this as an internal path and does not
include it inside my template. If the current application path you had looks
different from the one above, that may explain why the builder was attempting
to import it. What was the value of the ?Current Application Path? for that application
deployment?
3) ?Relative paths in the config.xml file require you to execute the config builder
from the directory of the domain you are making a template for.?
The builder is ?smart? enough to determine relative paths. You should not have
to invoke it from the domain directory you are working with. There is a known
bug in the WebLogic Platform 8.1.1.0 release of the template builder that will
cause it to not find files with relative paths in your domain directory if the
application path in the config.xml is just a ?.?. If this is the case, you should
see a FileNotFoundException when you attempt to create the template. This will
be fixed in SP2 and you can work around this problem by changing those paths to
?./? instead. If this was not the case, what was the path the wizard choked
on?
4) ?Looking through the config file, it seems that it's all of the WLI components
that have absolute paths in the config file. In addition, BEA_WLS_DBMS_ADK has
an absolute path, not sure if that is WLI or WLS. ?
BEA_WLS_DBMS_ADK is an integration application. If you created the original
domain using the configuration wizard most of the applications in an integration
enabled domain will reference paths inside of you installation directory or ?internal?
paths. For instance, I used the wizard to create a ?Basic WebLogic Integration
Domain?. The path for that application in this domain is: ?C:\bea\weblogic81/integration/adapters/dbms/lib/BEA_WLS_DBMS_ADK.ear?
where ?C:\bea\weblogic81? is my WL_HOME or USER_INSTALL_DIR. When I load this
domain into the builder it shows this application as ?internal? and the ?Internal
Application Path? is "$USER_INSTALL_DIR$/integration/adapters/dbms/lib/BEA_WLS_DBMS_ADK.ear".
This will be set as the path value of this application in the config.xml that
will be included in the template you build. When you later use the Configuration
Wizard on this template it will substitute the $USER_INSTALL_DIR$ to the value
of the installation directory of the machine you are creating it on.
If you were to Change these to relative paths, as Mark previously suggested,
it will only work if you copy the domain directory to the same location relative
to your installation directory on the target machine. Also, if you copy the domain
in this manner you will more than likely run into problems with your start/stop
scripts and be forced to hand modify all the paths contained within. The configuration
wizard tries to alleviate these problems and make the configuration entirely portable.
This gives the user who creates the domain from your template the ability to
put it anywhere they want regardless of the paths in the config.xml.
5) ?However, there is another major problem with the Template Builder: it only
includes the startup/shutdown script for the platform you create the template
on. ???I built the template on Solaris with the UNIX scripts. However, I tried
to create a new config on Windows with this template, and the scripts were not
converted to .bat files!?
As I stated previously, the builder will only include *.cmd and *.sh scripts
into your template by default. If you created the domain on a unix platform using
the configuration wizard it will not extract the *.cmd files since these aren?t
considered to be useful on unix. If you were then to attempt building a template
from this domain and take it onto a windows platform, it will obviously be missing
any windows scripts. Conversely, the wizard will extract *.sh scripts on windows
because they can still be useful if a user has an MKS or Cygwin type environment
installed. The config wizard and template builder do not have the ability to convert
scripts. The builder will only include existing scripts that are in your domain
directory and automatically determine any necessary string substitutions that
will be needed. Please note that since WebLogic is only supported on the NT/2K/XP
versions of windows you will find that the wizards use ?.cmd? files and not ?.bat?
files since these are more commonly associated with Win 95/98/ME.
I will be happy to answer any more questions you may have and would also like
to take a look at your domain configuration to try and get a better understanding
of the problems you are encountering.
thanx,
russ -

Thanks,

Thanks for your reply.
I think the reason is TFS 2010 build process template’s activities created using v10.0
version assemblies in VS 2010, not all these v10.0 build activities support be opened using VS 2013(v12.0 assemblies).

Can I build Azure RemoteApp template without Remote Desktop License ?
Can I build Azure RemoteApp template without Remote Desktop License ?
I want to build and update the Azure RemoteApp template by using same Hyper-V guest image continue.
Message:
"Remote Desktop licensing mode is not configured"
Environment 1: my on-premises Hyper-V guest.
Environment 2: my Azure Virtual Machine by "Windows Server Remote Desktop Session Host" image.
Regards,
Yoshihiro KawabataHi Yoshihiro,
If you are referring to RDS CAL, the answer is yes, you can build a template
without having an RDS CAL. For on-premises you would still need rights to install Windows Server as a guest, but to build the template you do not need an RDS CAL because this use is for administrative purposes.
In the case of building the image on an Azure Virtual Machine you do not need Windows Server license since that is included in the pricing for the Virtual Machine. As mentioned above you do not need an RDS CAL since you are only building a template
image which is administrative use.
As always please review the appropriate documents that apply to your situation such as the Online Service Terms (OST), Product Use Rights (PUR), license agreement(s), etc. for precise details.
Thanks.

Build template version 12.0
Hi,
I am possessing the customized build template version 12.0, which was created in VS2013 and designed to work with TFS2013.
I need to make it work with TFS2012.
It is using arguments with Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Common.Build.BuildParameter types for instance, which is available only in TFS2013 assembly.
Is there a way to modify the TFS2012 to reference TFS2013 assemblies?
Thanks in advance for the assistance.Hi Lukas,
Thanks for your post.
We cannot TFS 2013 version build process template in TFS 2012.
You should copy the default TFS 2012 build process template and custom this copied build process template to meet your requirement, then use it in your TFS 2012.

What’s the versions of your two TFS Servers, both are TFS 2013 Update 4?
How did you migrated old TFS database to the new installed TFS Server? (if have installed the new TFS Server, and want move collections from old TFS Server to new TFS Server, you should Detach collection in old TFS Server, then backup collection databases
from old TFS SQL Server, and restore to new TFS SQL Server, then Attach the collection databases in new TFS Admin Console)
This Development collection is your old TFS Server collection? Not migrated to new TFS Server?

How to round numbers in RTF templates?
Hello!
I'm using BI Publisher for Word (Oracle BI Publisher Builder for Word 10.1.3.4.1) to build a template to my BI Publisher report and I want to calculate this:
avg(X)/(avg(Y)-avg(Z)/0.9)
The result should be rounded to 3 places.
I tried:
<?(sum(X) div count(X)) div ((sum(Y) div count(Y)) - (sum(Z) div count(Z)) div 0.9)?>
and I obtained the expected result.
But, when I try to round in this way:
<?xdofx:round((sum(X) div count(X)) div ((sum(Y) div count(Y))-(sum(Z) div count(Z)) div 0.9),3)?>
I obtain 0 when is expected other value.
Can someone help me?Hi ,
