No burner on project computer

I don't have a DVD burner on the computer that I'm making my project on but I do have one on my computer at work.
What is the best way to get my project to work and burn it there?

a G4 Duel with a Superdrive
I was thinking that I could 'save as disk image' and put it on an external firewire drive and take it in to work. I should then be able to make a pysical disk from the image.
Can anyone confirm this for me...

  • Is PREL 13.1 the Problem, or is it the burner in my computer?

Once again, I am hoping the expertise of the devoted leaders of our USERS FORUM can solve my problems.  Thank you again for your devotion and efforts on behalf of all of us who struggle to produce our masterpieces.
I purchased Pre El 13 on Dec 29 and installed it 1-5-15.
My computer—Hpe 580t, Win 7 Professional 64-bit OS with a second internal 1 TB hard drive;     Burner Drive F: Name--    hp CDDVDW TS-H653T
               Intel R Core, TM i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07 GHz,      RAM 9.00GB
I use a Nikon Coolpix 100 camera to video indoor pickleball tournaments at 5 mega pixel size. These video clips range from seven seconds to one or two minutes.  I use PREL 13 to arrange the clips into whole games, which requires a lot of editing to eliminate in-between rallies and to correct lighting.  Starting with as many as 5 or 6 hours of clips, I pare down to a movie that will fit comfortably on one DVD—less than four GB, or 1 hour 45 minutes, of finished material.  After struggling alone for three months, I was able to produce such a DVD within about two weeks, thanks to A T Romano.
THE PROBLEM—after all the time and effort to produce a good movie, Prel won’t recognize the burner on my computer; therefore, I can’t produce a DVD disk.  (I always go through the Publish and Share dialog for burning a DVD with recommended settings.)  See Figure 1—below.
Even after I click on RESCAN several times, and make sure a blank disk is in the F: burner drive, PREL 13.1 refuses to find the computer burner.
Due to insufficient Upload speed (usually between 2.5 to 3.5 mbps) internet speed, sharing my Videos is wholly dependent on burning one to two hours of edited videos to DVD medium.  I have tried saving the movie to a Video_TS file on my computer, but cannot save all the components of the movie in the same TS file and be able to burn a DVD using ImgBurn.  The menus and scene markers are missing completely, and some of the video clips are also missing.  See Figure 2.
I want to use the Movie Menu Tools and scene markers to designate the beginning and ending of each scene, which I will burn to a DVD for playback on TV.  Movie menus and scene markers only work if I use the burner through PREL 13.  Other outside burners, like Windows Movie Maker or ImgBurn do not recognize the movie theme or the scene markers, nor do they provide any way to skip to a certain scene marker on the disk.
While working on other projects, I was able to burn DVD’s; however, I have become increasingly frustrated, because the vacant box indicating no burner detected is now happening every time.
Would this problem be solved by upgrading or installing another burner?
Or is this some ingrained bug in the PREL 13 software? (Such as; a burn can fail by inserting a stop marker at the end of a movie or scene)
Another PROBLEM—there is no way to save the edited video clips to a file, to be used again when PREL refuses to recognize my computer’s burner, which requires me to start all over with the editing process.
To avoid importing all the raw videos to PREL in an endless chain of clips and editing, I tried saving each game, or sometimes a whole match, to an mpg2 file on the computer.  Then it could be returned to my project by dragging and dropping the file onto the timeline in the proper sequence.  This method works in theory, but again, PREL won’t detect my burner in PUBLISH AND SHARE.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and experience with me.

Thanks for the great post full of information.
For troubleshooting purposes, make one or more copies of your project - File Menu/Save A Copy - and work from copies each, each with a different name than the original.
Did you look at the burn to disc or folder with and without the Intel HD Graphics 2000 or Higher disabled?
ANSWER-- Please see Edit Menu/Preferences/General.-----------  I unchecked the box for acceleration and  - - - See LOVELY Screen Shot (Fig 5) Burn Status = Ready.
How do you know all this stuff?  I’m afraid to touch boxes and choices for fear it will really mess me up, and unless someone instructs me to do so.
Is the burner recognized and can you burn to disc if you remove the Timeline menu markers and Movie Menu from the project?------------Burn Status shows Ready!
With no Menu Markers or Movie Menu, I tried a Burn command after rechecking the Hdw Accel. box, and the Burn Status shows Ready with the box either checked or unchecked.  Since the Hardware Acceleration checkbox seems to be related to my problem, (Fig 6) is a Screen Shot of my computer’s two Drivers, F: & G: .  Is Hardware Accel necessary for good quality movies such as I want to produce?
    A. Could this one box be the source of all my troubles?
    B. Why is it now working either way?
    3. The 15 minute duration limit is for Instant Movie. You are not using Instant Movie so, with your19 minute Timeline, you should have no 15 minute restriction and should be fine in that regard. One thing you could check out about your Timeline structure - see if it makes a difference in any of the workflow - look to the Timeline spot about 00;17;05;02 - what is that clip and can you fill in the empty audio space under it with muted audio?  Clip at 17;05:02 looks normal to me.  There is a gap in the audio at 17:20:21 where I inserted  a Black Video and Title. Muted audio?  Couldn’t find a reference to Muted Audio.  Sorry.
    4. Let us go back to focus on the VIDEO_TS Folder from the saved burn to folder route....
    Publish+Share  -- Disc – DVD -- burn to: Folder (4.7 GB)...
In the Quality area of the burn dialog, what is displayed for Space Required and Bitrate with and without a check mark next to "Fit Content to Available Space"?
(Fig 7) is a Scn Shot of the Settings for saving an MPEG file to computer.  I don’t know enough to mess with most of the presets when the window opens.  I did bump up the Quality to high 80’s, low 90’s.  The Field Order is preset to Lower First.
Are you taking only the VIDEO_TS Folder in the saved Premiere Elements folder into ImgBurn?
    ImgBurn
    Write Files/folders to disc
File Menu/Browse to source folder (that being only your VIDEO_TS Folder)
Here we go!  I was opening the TS folder and trying to choose what files had to be imported to ImgBurn!  OK—so you take the entire VIDEO_TS Folder to ImgBurn?
Out of time for today.  I will proceed from here and report back to you, hopefully tomorrow.
(ANSWER CONTINUES, SHOULD BE IN RED.)
Since I will be pushing the limits of a 4.7 GB, two-hour movie for my third project, how long should the ideal segments be before saving to an mpeg folder, to be dragged and dropped back to my timeline if I burn  straight to DVD?
Which way would net the best DVD quality—Burn straight to DVD, or save to a VIDEO_TS Folder and use ImgBurn for the DVD?
You deserve a medal for all you have done for me.  Thanks so much, ATR         Sandgrass
Let us review the above and then focus in on what next.

  • IDVD burning one project on multiple macs? where are project contents?

How do I burn one project on multiple macs? I have a idvd project I created in keynote, added music to it in Garageband, exported to quicktime, and now is in iDVD burning just fine. However I have tons of these dvd's to make, I would like to put all my mac's to work.
last night i tried to share the file, and it is just an alias when i drag it over from the macbook it was created on to my imac. the file says it is in use and locked, since the macbook that created it is burning it. If I wanted to brun on the imac, I had to wait until the macbook was done.
is there a way around this? What if I copied all files I used to make the idvd project to my imac or any computer i wanted to burn on? woudl it hen allow two macs to be burning the same project?
I figured I could do this just like on my PC, drag the file over and voila...no such luck, its like if i had dragged a shortcut over to another pc...if the first one is using the file, its locked. Basically how do i get to the actual contents of the project, so I can also bring them over and hopefully it will allow me to burn on multiple macs at the same time?
my next solution if that didn't work was to start copying dvd's using popcorn on the other macs while the macbook continues burning through idvd.
Any opinions on how i can duplicate a dvd fast...need alot of copies!

Also as to where the files are.

  • I can't burn a project from iMovie to a dvd why?

my mac didn't have idvd untill i instaled it but when i try to burn a project from imovie, the dvd doesn't work on any other computer what can i do?

What are you using to burn the movie to DVD? If you are using Finder, it will not work on other DVD players (not sure about other computers). In order to work anywhere, you need a dedicated video burn/authoring application such as iDVD, Roxio Toast, Burn, or many others you find by googling.
Oops - I missed the fact that you said you installed iDVD? So did you use that or Finder?

  • I had completed my iDVD project and burned a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the project and put a red frame around the opening screen. Now when I burn the project, it no longer has the opening frame. How can I fix?

I had completed my iDVD project, a Wedding Slideshow with pictures and music, and burned it on a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the original project on my computer and clicked around and put a red frame around the opening screen that has the Wedding theme with music. Now when I burn the project to make more DVDs, it burns but no longer has the opening frame. It immediately opens to the iMovie slideshow. How can I fix so I can burn the entire project with opening frames?

As Bengt suggested make a disk image of the successfully burned DVD using Disk Utility. Then you can burn copies any time you need one.
In the future once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
You can then burn it to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Need Help ASAP!! Can't burn my project on Premiere 4.0 to PC or DVD!!

I have been working on this project for so long! Its a compilation of videos and photos and music. Its only 11 minutes long. I had a horrible time creating it because the program shut down every other minute, but I did finish it. As I attempted to burn it to the computer or to a DVD, it wouldn't allow me to. So I have been trying to save it to my computer just so I can open it up in another DVD burning program, but as its burning to the computer, it only gets to about 10% and then says there is a transcoding error. Also if I try to save it another way to the computer as an MPEG, its says there isn't video support and it is shutting down. Can someone help?!!! I tried calling support and they said the only talk to people if you are using the latest version and I have to depend on these forums for help. This is for work and I need it done in less than a week.

Gaps can be very small, and almost impossible to actually see.
First, I zoom in on the Timeline, to the Frame-level, and step through the Timeline, or play it, looking for a flash of black.
Next, I will hit Home, to get to the beginning of the Timeline, and then use the PageUP/PageDN keys to step through, Clip by Clip. I watch the CTI (Current Time Indicator w/ the red Edit Line) carefully. It should smoothly jump from Clip to Clip. With a tiny gap, say 1 Frame, the CTI will "hiccup," or "bounce." That is where the Gap is. How one fixes it will depend on where the gap is, and what one wants. Say that it's between two stills, I would then drag the Head of one, or the Tail of the other, to fill that gap. If it's between Video Clips, other choices might work best.
PrE has a "Close Gaps" function, but if one has Audio that covers that gap, it will not work.
One trick, that can get you to Transcoding is to add Transparent Video. Drag that to Video Track above all of your existing Video Clips, and extend it to "cover" the entire Timeline. The limitation of this method is that if there is a gap, there will be a black flash in the Video. If only 1 Frame, that might go undetected.
Usually, when one gets the ":Failure to Return Frame," there is a % of the Timeline, also listed. One can do the math to locate that on the Timeline. As PrE does a two-pass Transcode, then 100% of the Transcode is through two passes. The full Duration of the Timeline is at 50%, as that is the end of the first pass. That can be a bit confusing, as a glitch at 75% would mean that half-way through the second pass, there was an issue detected. Usually, if there is a glitch, it will be discovered in the first pass.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Problem burning iDVD projects using external LaCie burner

I recently purchased a LaCie DL d2 DVD RW with LightScribe 16x from the LaCie company (12/07/2007). The LaCie burner is connnected via Firewire to my iMac. The iMac is a little over a year old and I am running Mac OS X (ver. 10.4.11).
The primary reason for my purchase was that I wished to create/burn iDVD projects on my iMac computer. The reason that I needed this product was due to the fact that, when I purchased my iMac, I made an error in judgement , and ordered it with a combo rather than a SuperDrive. So, while I am able to create iDVD projects and iMovies, I am unable to burn DVDs with of projects on the Combo Drive that came with the computer.
Thus far, however, I have not been able to burn a DVD with any of my iDVD projects. I am running iDVD 6 (ver. 6.04). When I attempt to “burn” a DVD disk the “Creating your DVD menu” appears. When I put in a blank DVD+RW 4x 4/7GB, it appears to go through the process (Prepare,,, Process Menus... Process Slideshows... Process Movies and Burn procedures). The DVD is then ejected and a message says that it is done and is “cleaning up.” However, that message never leaves the screen and when I click on the “Cancel” button, nothing happens. The iDVD application seems to lock up and I have to do a “force quit.”
I have tried this with three different projects, all with the same result. When I place the supposed “burned” DVD in the Combo Drive, it spins for a while and then kicks the DVD diskn out.
I have also tried launching Toast Titanium 7 (software that came with the LaCie burner). However, I see no place where I can “drag & drop” an iDVD project to the “drop zone.’ The closest thing seams to be “movies.” However, when I select that mode and go to my iDVD folder, all of the files are “grayed out.”
Can anyone help me out? Should I be able to burn iDVD projects with this unit? If so, what am I doing wrong.
Thanks for any help/advice that anyone can provide.
    Jeff White

open up Toast 7, click on Video tab, click on Image File and drag your img. file to Toast.
    John,
That's not correct. In Toast 7 you must use the Copy tab to burn a disk image to writable media. See page 94 of the Toast 7 manual.
(The procedure is slightly different for Toast 6 and Toast 8 but always involves using 'Copy')

  • IDVD 08 burn DVD project ERROR!?

Trying to burn my project that i've made in iMovie HD, export it to .mov file, then opened 3 .mov files in iDVD project, added some pictures and music, played with chapter and tried to BURN DVD.
Everything is OK when I click preview, everything is OK with ENCODING in Background=done, NTFS, 4,2,GB but only 3GB project, 16:9...all fine. Then I click *BURN DVD*:
_There were warnings during the project validation. It is recommended that you fix these problems before burning the project._
I click *CONTINUE BURNING*, proces menus, proces slideshows, proces movies - everything OK, *burn DVD* - *the program just shut down*.
    *What should I do?*
I've tried burn VIDEO_TS folder - same thing.
Now trying save as disk image...hope this works.

    1. Make sure your software is up to date - EVERYTHING IS NEW WITH COMPUTER AND UPDATED REGULARY.
    2. Make sure you have enough free space on your drive to create a DVD - I HAVE 10,74GB FREE
    3. Temporarily disable any non-Apple QuickTime plugins by removing them from /Library/QuickTime/ and ~/Library/QuickTime/ and try burning again. - http://img292.imageshack.us/my.php?image=58969981ax7.jpg TOOK A SCREEN SHOT
    4. If you are using a third-party theme in iDVD, try selecting a theme which was included with iDVD instead - USING iDVD THEME 6.0 TRAVEL THEME
    5. If the burn failure resulted in a partially burned but unreadable disc, try burning a large amount of data from the Finder or another application to a DVD to see if the issue is isolated to iDVD. For example, try burning a copy of /Library/Fonts/ to a DVD from the Finder. - I’VE BURNED MyGreatDVD.dvdproj AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE USING TOAST SO BURNING DISK IS NOT THE ISSUE
    6. If the issue is not isolated to iDVD, run Apple Hardware Test - I WILL TRY EVERYTHING ELSE BEFORE DOING THAT
    7. If the issue is isolated to iDVD, make note of what was being displayed in the burn progress dialog when the burn progress stopped. - ERROR WHEN BEEDED TO BE BURN
    8. THERE IS NO 8.
    9. If the burn fails during Multiplexing or Encoding, try deleting any existing encoded assets from your project. - I DON’T UNDERSTAND??
    10. try burning a different project to see if it has the same issue - I WILL BUT THIS IS NONSENCE FINDING NEEDLE IN THE HAY
    11. you may want to try burning the DVD to a disc image - I DID AND WAS THE SAME ERROR
Please help...I am so close but also so far away.

  • Failed to burn iMovie project, iDVD  "not responding"

A preemptive thanks for your time.
I am trying to burn iMovie projects through iDVD. I have done this successfully in the past. What happens now is after going through many of the steps up through Encoding Video, the process gets stuck when the status window says "Encoding Audio". No error message occurs or anything like that, the burn wheel stops spinning, and the "multicolored wheel of computer confusion" pops up. Needless to say this means that I am even more confused than the computer and examining the iDVD icon in the dock reveals that it is "not responding."
This same problem happens with two similar projects (one of which was burned successfully in the past.) I am using Sony DVD-R disks. The projects are the typical size for about 50 minutes of edited iMovie project (15GB).
    HELP!

    As Rich says:
    This question is frequently asked!
iDVD is probably not 'hanging'. Disregard any messages that iDVD is not responding. It is. Do not force quit.
Encoding audio is the slowest part of rendering, and can take many hours. Great patience, even an intermittent alternative hobby, is called for.
Make sure no other application is running, make sure you have not set the hard disk to go to sleep and that the screen saver will not come on. Leave it overnight, or have a 36 hole game of golf.
Sooner or later iDVD will finish!
(The current record mentioned here for encoding a DVD with lots of added audio etc is 47 hours!)

Hi, I have a project that claims its 5.7gb. I changed the burning disk to a 8gb so i would have plenty of room for the project. The movie is in large format and is only 1hr 17 min. When I burned the project it took about 3 hrs then it ejected with 5min left during the burn stage. It didnt burn any of the idvd project. I cant figure out what happened. Any help would be great!
    Thank you,

    Hi
iDVD doesn't care about Gs at all. I have 50Gbs movies that burn OK and 1Gbs that don't.
iDVD only cares about TIME (including DVD-menu - elaborate = less movie).
60 minute limit to Best Performance Quality - and -
120 minutes for - Pro Quality and High Quality
on Single Layer DVDs (about double ob DL-disks)
*I made a list on thoughts about DVD-Quality - se belove*
    1. iDVD 08 & 09 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    2. From
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not selfcontaining, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly eg x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09 this can also be set)
This can also be done with (Apple) Disk Util tool.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
    5. Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVD at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while befor next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
*• HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx 25Gb.*
*less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.*
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JESDeinterlacer3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are plabacked by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choise before Pro Quality)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

  • Can't burn iDVD project

    Hello,
I created a set of movies in iMovie and then created a project in iDVD (v7.0.4).
I imported the movies that play just fine when you click on the buttons in iDVD.
I checked and there are no errors in the hierarchical view and am ready to burn the project to a DVD.
I clicked the round DVD button and it requested that I insert a DVD. I inserted a DVD and it started to burn the project. After about 4 minutes (after it burns the drop zone pictures and begins to burn the movies), I get a dialog box saying "You inserted a blank DVD. Choose and action from the pop-up menu or click ignore." I've tried numerous options but continue to get this dialog box.
At the same time the above message appears another message appears in iDVD which says "Error during rendering/encoding."
I have found no error icons when viewing the project in hierarchical view. I have tried restarting my Mac. What could be going wrong?
    Please help. Thank you!

Please disregard this post, I solved the problem. Basically, I just created a brand new project in iDVD and re-imported all the movies. I don't know what problem there was in the earlier version but it's been resolved.

  • Difficulty burning iDVD project to disc

Help - My first try, and I'm tossing wrecked discs like frisbees! I've put together a lovely set of slideshows with soundtracks and set up an iDVD project to my liking (using a supplied theme), but can't get it to burn to DVD. I've checked out the burner by burning a DVD with a few BG's of compressed movies from iTunes (I needed to make some room anyway). I also managed to save my project as a .img file, which plays fine on the DVD player.
When I attempt to burn the project in iDVD, it goes through the whole process of rendering, encoding, inspecting, folding, spindling and mutilating (OK, I've forgotten all the steps), and it starts into burn mode: says it's burning the lead in, then a couple of seconds later it ejects the disc and says done. However, the process doesn't actually quit (even though it says done and nothing further happens), and when I press the cancel button it says "cleaning up" and then that's it ... seizes up and needs force quit to go on. No error messages are given when the disc is ejected. When I insert the disc back into the mac it recognizes it at first as an empty DVD, but shows up on the desktop as an empty CD-R not DVD. It is unreadable in a DVD player.
I looked through the troubleshooting section in support, and moved non-Apple files from the Library/Quicktime folder, and wasted yet another disc, not to mention the time it took to try to burn it.
Besides the obvious (DVD-RW would save a bit of plastic now, wouldn't it!), any thoughts??
    Many thanks for any hints!

    Thanks, F Shippey -
I tried burning the .img file, through the Finder (is that the same as doing it through Disk Utility? Probably not, but D.U. was not interested... see below) - didn't want to even start. So I found a DVD-RW disc - at first D.U. wouldn't erase it (unspecified error). Stubborn soul that I am, it finally worked the third time (ok I also rebooted in between). A direct burn of the .img file went through, but wasn't readable as a DVD (the player knew there were some mp3's on it somewhere...). So I erased it again, and tried a burn direct through the iDVD again. Success! And when it got done, it asked if I wanted to do another, so what the heck, I threw in one of the DVD-R discs - a new one off the spindle - and that worked too.
When I look at ANY of these discs on Disk Utility they all seem to say they're not writable when I choose the Information tab, even if they're identified as DVD-RW (Locked: Yes, Writable: No"). And yet, then they go on to be writable after all. That isn't right, is it?
I am starting to wonder if my superdrive is a little wonky. Either that or this spindle of DVD-R's is funky (Memorex - I'd have thought they'd be pretty reliable?). At any rate, I've been able to make it work this once, so, well, I'm not sure what. I'll keep plugging along.
I'll leave the thread as unanswered for a little bit, in case anyone has any other thoughts.
    Thank you all.
    L.
