No button to view old chat history

For some reason there's not button "from the beginning" -- only up to 6 months (right now it's to 28th of April, I think), even though there are message that were sent in 30th of March, for example (I can see them only by keeping scrolling up a mouse wheel).
In one case I can't view old messages at all, because there were no messages after 28th of April (so I can't scroll back up to March). SkypeLogView and Skypious has found them, so my chat history is not deleted or corrupted.
Here's screenshot:
Where has "from the beginning" button gone?

Migrate a copy of the main.db file to another computer and see if it displays a beginning.   If the problem follows the main.db file then it may have been corrupted at some time in the past that made it loose data or some tables.   Corruption could still exist even without a main.corrupt.   Even using some 3rd party software to view/alter the main.db file could have some adverse effects.  I'd be curious to know in the existing setup whether you can get to 6 months then manually scroll up beyond that time.
Unfortunately, I don't have any other computers around so I can't check it.
And I have used 3rd party software only after I encountered this problem, so they can't be reason of possible corruption (if it exists).
Yes, I can scroll up after "6 months", but it stops when I scroll up to the 1st of April (but in one chat it still has shown message from 30th of March (which is probably one of the oldest dates SkypeLogView and Skypious could find).
Could it be that 30th of March is not "old" enough date to make "from the beginning" button appear?

  • How do I view messages chat history?

I have been using my Ipad to message with friends.  I wanted to look at the history of a recent chat, but don't want to click at the top of the chat to load more.  Is there a way I can see all my history?

skype histories are saved locally, or in the computer where the chat conversations happened.  If you no longer have access to your old machine, there is no way to restore your chat history.

  • Getting old chat history for old skype version

Hey guys, I received a messages today that I HAD to upgrade my skype messenger  and was unable to sign in.... I have very important chats with certain documents sent to me on the previous version. Is there anyway I will have access to my chat history if I download the new Skype... Or am I out of luck. Please help

You should be able to make a copy of the main.db file from your current skype and import it into the new version. It worked for me a year ago when I was in a similar situation (had to get a new computer) - but this new version doesn't seem to save as much history though, so I'm not entirely confident in that answer. It definitely won't hurt to make a copy of the main.db file and try it though. You can find it by typing "%appdata%" into your search bar and clicking on the "Roaming" file. From there you should be able to find the Skype folder. Mine's kinda messed up because of issues I've been having recently so I can't say where exactly within the Skype folder you'll find it, but it should be fairly easy to locate in there ^^

  • SYNC CHAT HISTORY

Hi everyone, I've read almost all fo the threads here but I don't seem to find any answer for my dilemma. How can I sync in old chat history from my laptop Skype to my Android phone. I tried logging on in both devices and my contacts were all online but it still will not show up my old messages. I do have my main.db file backed up on my computer but how can I transfer that to my phone or will that even work? If anyone knows a hack or even via a third party app, please let me know. I really really need to have those chats.  Thanks!

History continues to work like it always has with the exception that Cloud-enabled accounts/chats have around 30 days of their history cached in the Cloud.  All history is still stored locally on a per device basis.  Besides the Cloud syncing there is always the possibility that some of the history from an adjacent device can sync to your current device however I would not count on that being consistent.  In the past only current P2P history was cached ( 12+ hours or so).  This may still be a drawback when using P2P created chats vs.  the newer cloud-enabled chats that are created.
The main.db located on the device contains your history.  If at any time you replace it, the previous history will be lost as it will only be contained in the old main.db file.  Skype provides no software to combine the history in old/new or multiple main.db files.  If you want to do that you can attempt to get that done using 3rd party software (like Skyperious).  I would suggest you make backups of any main.db files that you choose to experiment with.

  • Older chat history dissapeared

Could somebody help me to solve my problems please ? In recently January, I had enabled my blackberry messenger chat history. Then I had noticed that after a long conversation with the same person, the older messages disappeared. Is there any way to get them back or view them again ?
I had checked through my PC, but I can't view it.
And the older messages saved as .OLD format.
    Please help me. Thanks.

Have you try pressing the menu button while in a convo and going to view history? Or menu>view>view history if your using OS6.

  • How to make previous chat history visible in new window

    Hi people,
Recent Windows convert here. I am a loyal user of Trillian, and one of the things I love about Trillian is that when a new chat window comes up, the log from the previous conversation is visible within it.
So, to illustrate, it's a bit frustrating to have a conversation like this:
Me: Hey Mike, do you know how Sally is doing?
Mike: I am away from my computer
I log off or go away. Then a few hours later,
    Mike: She hurt her foot
    Me: Who hurt her foot?
You get my drift - if new windows had a little history in them, that'd be great. Now, I know how to save chat history, and where it is saved. What I'm wishing for is that it were right there inside the new window with some kind of divider to set the time/context (even a button to view it would be a step in the right direction). I'm guessing there may be an add-on for this, but my Apple Discussion and Google searches have been fruitless.
    Any ideas? Thanks all.
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    HI ZigZagLens,
Welcome To The Apple Discussion Pages.
I only know of a partial solution to this.
If I have a Chat open and the other end person goes offline when they come back my end uses the same window if I still have it open.
There is no way to reopen a close chat window AND add fresh text chat to it.
If you wanted this it would be a feature request.
I could see that it could be done two ways.
    1) The Recents item in iChat itself could list the last few saved chats
    2) An iChat Recents item could be added to the Blue Apple Recents item.
At present iChat open saved chats are added to the Documents list if they are reopened, so it will probably need both.
It is around this area that you might find a utility.

  • How can I access a dormant chat history without logging onto Skype which will delete the data?

I am posting this question here because many of you will have more technical knowldege about how this works compared to any other thread. I need to access my own Skype IM convos for legal reasons. I have only just realised that I do not have a complete history of chats from the begining of time. It's extremely frustrating that Skype only keeps 6mo worth of chat since Microsoft took over. This happened without any notification from MS that I can recall and it is a major problem for me now. Plan B: I have a Vista machine that I have not used for ages. If I can access the Skype IM chat history on it that will cover at least some of the period I need to access. My problem is, to view the IM chats I need to go online and log into Skype BUT that will wipe the info I need to see when it updates the history and goes back 6mo. It's a catch 22 situation. The info is there but i just don't know how to see it. As an additional complication, I stopped using the machine because there was a strong reason to believe it had a security breach/Trojan on it that antivirus program's could not detect. So I want to avoid going online with that Vista machine but it is possible. How can I view and extract my Skype IM convos without logging onto Skype itself and losing the data I want access? Obviously I know my passwords, so it's not a spying situation that I need to get around. It's very important that I view these old chats and fast. I have Internet access through other machines at the moment and I am not a techie. Can anyone help? You are my last chance.

Thanks Tamim. I had seen that app but was reluctant to try it. Following your post, I tried it and YES it does work. It is a bit cumbersome and will take a lot of work to sift through the CSV file that has every single chat convo combined into one file and not into separate conversations. There are tens of thousands of lines to search through. I am very grateful that the history is retrievable at all . It's just going to take a long time to sift through the data in an efficient and useable way. Unfortunately, with deadlines looming, I have very little time to do it in. Tamim, or anyone else for that matter, do you know of a way that the information can be viewed as a complete conversation between 2 people only?
ie filtering out the other irrelevant conversations?  Thnak you, thank you, thank you for your help so far.

  • How to recover chat history since January 2009...

I have spent over an hour trying various methods to get the chat history I've established with a company since January 2009. Many software updates and operating system installs over this three-year time-span has left the entire chat history very fragmented, as I only have the past two months. This entire chat history is very important, as it relates to a large portion of proof for an employment lawsuit. If anyone or anything can help with getting this 3 year chat history, I'd be very grateful.

I have a very old and ugly utility that I created, it requires it be opened in a IE ("Internet Browser") window.
Note: Once you click the "Refresh" button it can take a long time to list all the chats in
your chat history. Also, when you select a chat, depending on how many chat messages are in that chat, it can take along time to display the chat messages in a chat:

  • After reinstalling OS my Skype Chat History show u...

    Hello,
Normally I backup skype text before moving to a new pc or set up my OS. But last time I forget to do it. I have some important chat history. When I log in to my skype in new OS. It automatically shows my important chat msg. But after 30 sec it was gone then I reinstall skype again and it's happen same. Every time I reinstall skype I got my chat history automatically back but after 30 sec to 1 min it was gone.
By the way, in my android mobile I have a skype too. I can access all my chat history from here. But normally I want it to my desktop. Is there any solution?
    Thanks in advanced

    Thanks,

Have you tried making a backup of your main.db file then try viewing it with Skype log viewer or Sqlite database viewer?
    http://nirsoft.net/utils/skype_log_view.html
    http://sqlitebrowser.org/
    https://suurjaak.github.io/Skyperious/
If the data is there you should be able to read it.  If there is some corruption in the database file you can try using Skyperious to see if it can repair it or join it with another empty database file (cleared history).  In any case you may want to backup your %appdata%/Skype folder before attempting such things.
If you have root access to your phone you could also try backing up that main.db file or possibly transplanting that information over to your desktop if the data is missing by replacing the current file or using Skyperious to merge the old data.  Remember when you perform clean installs of your OS your Skype history does not go with you.  It would be best to retrieve that main.db file from before you reloaded the OS via a planned backup.  What could be happening is the data could be attempting to sync from your phone but eventually only pulls/limits the information from the cloud (up to 30 days).

  • Whatsapp Chat history

Hi All, I am using whatsapp in my Nokia 603. When i try to export the chat history of a contact to email/bluetooth I am able to get only 210 KB of data. Please help me to extract entire chat history of a contact. Thanks

Hi Guys. *Here is a Solution I Found*
I also lost my chats but this was deliberate through swopping phones since my wife could not view messages due to White Screen of Death. When I put back my SIM Card all the chat history was gone despite having chosen option to save messages to media card. I searched everywhere but there was no information, Whatsapp only have option to restore for Android when the reinstall is done but Blackberry automatically selects the most recent backup which in my case was only one chat message. So I will give a rundown of how I got to get old messages back.
    1. The backup files are stored on your media card, location address /Media Card/databases/Whatsapp/, all the .db files are back-ups and by pressing Menu, Properties you can see which date it was saved.
    2. I connected my Blackberry to the PC, opened the location above and chose the target date of restore as 16 October 2012, so I cut every file except the one for 16 October 2012. I pasted them onto a temp folder I created on my PC desktop.
    3. Once you remain with the file for your backup, eject the Media Card from your PC. You should see the Blackberry run that clock, wait for it to finish. Open your Whatsapp Messenger and voila, your messages/chat will be there again The best thing is my new messages were not removed, they were added with the old ones.
The drawback I have seen in the Blackberry/Whatsapp application is that when you delete and reinstall Whatsapp as advised you will remain with the same recent chat which you dont want and Blackberry's whatsapp has no option to choose which backup you want to use so this manual workaround has worked for me in this instance.

  • Skype won't laod the chat history

  • IChat - Synching Chatting History from multiple devices on same account

I currently have the iChat server up and running on a MacMini running OS X 10.6.4. I see in the iChat client on my MacBook Pro where it will load past messages when I open a chat with a buddy. I am also running a jabber client on my iPhone (IM+ is the iPhone app). What I am curious about is if there is a way to load chat history for the account, not just from the device.
For instance, when using Skype the following will occur. I can chat on my iPhone, and then when I login to my Laptop, the history of chats sent from my iPhone will be added to the history on my Laptop. I am trying to prevent having to look back at every device I use my jabber account on to find that one IM message that has the information I need.
Is there a way to sync the account on all clients (or at least just my MacBook Pro) so I can view chats there sent from all my devices and not just from my Laptop?

    Tim,
I have turned on the logging feature inside of the iChat server, and I have seen all IMs being sent are saved.
So do you think this is more of a client side problem of not being able to sync from the Message Archive on the OS X Snow Leopard 10.64 iChat server? Meaning that if the IMs are being saved, then all that really needs to be done is to create a client that will access the server log and do a compare of its local saved history with the server saved history and then takes any missing IMs and adds to its local history log?
Am I far off base on this, or does this seem feasable?
