No camera detected on OSX 10.8.5 running on MacBook Air 2013

No camera detected after update to OSX 10.8.5  on MacBook Air 2013

After the original (flawed) update to OS X 10.8.5 was installed, the internal camera of a 2013 MacBook Air would not work in Skype and some other third-party applications. The flaw was fixed in a supplemental update. However, if you followed some questionable advice that was circulating on this site to hack your system before installing the supplemental update, then it will not restore camera functionality; in fact, the camera won't work at all. The solution in that case, most likely, is to install the 10.8.5 Combo update.
In the future, I suggest you ignore advice to replace, remove, or change built-in system components.

Webcam not working for Macbook Air 2013 after upgrading to OSX Mavericks? Yahoo/ Google/Skype cam chats not working. Facetime works though. Any updates of Mavericks released to fix this?

I have a MacBook Pro Retina display: 15.4-inch late 2015 with OS X Mavericks install, only on second week.
Insight works on FaceTime, Skype, but yahoo program does not show insight cam in dropped down.
Now when I got my new MacBook Pro, I down loaded all new Skype (worked tested), FaceTime (Worked Tested), Yahoo (not worked)
    Fix:
With the new Maverick you have to use there messager program Version 8.0 (4218). Once I add my yahoo account video works again.
It also supported AOL, AIM, Google Talk, Jabber.
Guess I miss it frist time... hope this helps...

  • Macbook Air 2013 OSX 10.9.2 iSight Camera not working

    Hello to everyone!
I have a problem here in my new macbook air 2013.
Since I updated my osx to 10.9.2 my iSight Camera is not working anymore. I tried to reset the SMC and PRAM without results. I also checked the permissions on my hard disk without any result.
I've also tried to delete my AppleCamera.plugin file from /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/ and I tried to use another one from OSX 10.8.4 but it's not working.
    What can I do more?
Is there any way to fix this problem without formatting?

  • MacBook Air 2013 Camera Problems

I have a MacBook Air 2013 and recently, after the most current update my built-in camera not only does not work with Skype but does not work with Facetime or Photobooth either.
Under "Camera" in System Report my camera does not show up. I have rebooted, shutdown and cold-booted, pressed Shift + Alt + Ctrl + Command when booting.
I don't want to do a fresh install of my (brand new) computer all over again just yet. What should I do? Is it a software issue?
It's rather frustrating because I can't Skype or even Facetime my family and resorting to an external webcam is a ridiculous notion for a laptop.
    Thanks,
    scintoon

    Hey dominic23,
Thanks - that update solved the issue of me not being able to use the webcam. However, now my mic does not work as well. I have rebooted a few times (shut down, cold boot) as well as holding the Shift + Alt + Command when powering up.
Is there a fix to this? Apple seriously needs to fool-proof these updates. Or, at least never have any of these problems in Mavericks
    Thanks for all your help.

  • MacBook Air 2013 with Mavericks 10.9.1 has Facetime HD Camera issues

Hi, I've been using a new 2013 MacBook Air with 10.9.1 for the last 3 weeks (I used to have a 2010 Macbook Pro 15 with Mavericks) and the Facetime HD camera is having issues being detected by different applications.
In my case I mainly use Google Hangouts, Skype, and sometimes Facetime. The problem lies on that the camera sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't.
I usually reboot the camera with 'sudo killall AppleCameraAssistant' and that makes it work, but it shouldn't be like that.
Please note that this was not happening with my 2010 MacBook Pro with Mavericks. I changed to this new 2013 MacBook Air only 3 weeks ago. Nevertheless, people that I work with (who use retina macbooks with Mavericks) are not having this issue.
Last week I had to install a plugin (in chrome) for a new online site similar to Hangouts called BlueJeans. Bluejeans very seldomly recognizes the cam, only when I reboot it with the 'line' above or reboot the machine. The people I work with didn't have any issues, so I suspect this has to do with 2013 MacBook Air's Facetime HD cameras which might be different to the rest, or too new on the market.
It's as if when I start using it in Hangouts and then hang, later it might not work in Skype, or viceversa.
If you can help, that'll be great, and I appreciate it. Nevertheless, I feel Apple must take care of this in the next Mavericks update (many people are having camera issues).

    Hi Jal1980
    I had the same pb...
On my MacBook Pro Mid 2012 I Had a problem with my video on skype, facetime, photoboot....
I have tried all the solution offered in every forum and never got to a satisfying result. I downgraded to mountain lion from mavericK without result. I reseted the Pram or SMC (I forgot), and other things, I played with the plugin /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/, I tried several version of skype.... NONE of this solution worked....
Until that day a friend came to my place and installed AppleJack for Mac, a free software (http://download.cnet.com/AppleJack/3000-2094_4-40293.html) that totally solved this issue amongst others...
Here is the full page of the program http://applejack.sourceforge.net/man.html
And here quick instructions on how to use the program. Have fun!
Restart your computer. After you hear the startup chime, press and hold down the
Cmd and s keys together (this will put you in single user mode). You should soon get a Terminal-type screen with a dramatic garble of indecipherable messages and a shell prompt that looks something like [root#]
    2. Now, type applejack at the prompt. (If you’ve installed applejack manually, or have not created an alias to applejack for the root user, you may have to enter the full path to the script at the prompt.) You will be guided through a series of steps that will repair your drive and delete possibly corrupted files. Options are selected by typing the number corresponding to the task you want to perform, and then hitting the return key. For example, when you see a few different options, like this:
[1] Option One [2] Do something else [3] Another task [4] A useful task
From time to time, in interactive mode, you will be asked to answer yes or no to a question. To answer yes, type y and hit the return key. To answer no, type n and hit the return key.
An advantage of using the interactive mode instead of auto mode is that you are given options for also cleaning out user-level caches and preference files. If you would like to clean out your main admin user caches, for example, you will need to use interactive mode.
    3. Auto mode: If you want to leave
applejack to do it’s own thing, just choose option [a] when the script starts. You can also start right up in auto mode by typing: applejack auto at the prompt. applejack will run through all the basic cleanup tasks in order. Alternatively, you can also type applejack auto restart which will tell applejack to do the cleanup tasks and then automatically restart your computer. Other options are: applejack auto shutdown which tells AppleJack to shut down the computer after running its tasks, or applejack AUTO shutdown which tells AppleJack to run automatically in "deep cleaning" mode (see above) and then shut down.
I hope this helps. It completely solved my issue.

  • How can I put OSX 10.7 on a new Macbook Air. Maverick no longer allows "open file in a new window" and I really miss it. At the Apple Store they told me it can't be added to the new OSX 10.10 so I  want to change the OSX on the new Macbook Air and it

I have been using a 2012 Mac pro to do HD video editing. I bought a new portable Macbook Air only to find that Maverick no longer has "open files in a new window" which I use all the time in the very large folders of video clips and royalty-free music. I asked at the Apple Store how I could get this back on the Macbook Air and they said it couldn't be done so I thought I would re-format the HD and install 10.7 on it and was notified by the Macbook Air I can't put 10.7 on that computer. Apple use to give this as an option but now they have gone more to the attitude of "Do it our way or go to ****!" In anger I went out and bought a Dell Laptop and Pinnacle Studio 17 which I have been learning to use. I have been an Apple/Mac user since 1979 and would still rather do my video editing on a Mac. Is there any way that I can force the Macbook Air to let me load in OSX 10.7 where there is still the option to  "open files in a new window" or is there a way to add this to Maverick? The experts at the Madison, WI Couldn't give me any help on this.

Choose Preferences from the Finder menu, click on the General tab, and uncheck the box to open folders in a new tab.

  • Camera stopped working in all applications on my new MacBook Air 10.8.5 Any help?

My mid 2013 new MacBook Air camera stopped working in all applications, facetime, photobooth and skype. It says camera not found. Does anyone have a solution for this problem? Thanks!

I have figured it out! You just have to install the new plug in to your macbook.
    Download  the AppleCamera.plugin provided.
Click on go in the finder menu, select go to golder and paste in /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/ ,
move that item, AppleCamera.plugin, to the trash
Go to your downloads folder and copy the new AppleCamera.plugin, then paste it in the folder where the old one was.
    It works

  • Macbook air 2013 osx install

    Hi
incidentally deleted my ssd partitions and now, can not install osx 10.8.4 downloadedfrom app store by bootable usb. every time i see a grey screen with circle and slash. also can not connect to internet reovery because all on air servers are busy and it takes 660 hour for reinstalling osx.
what versiion of mac osx should i install ? the 10.8.4 in app store ?

The App Store would not have 10.8.4.  It would have Mountain Lion (10.8).  You would then have to do a Software Update to receive 10.8.4.
Anyway, yes, it sounds like that is the correct path for you.

  • I have leopard OSX (10.5.8) on a macbook air. want to upgrade to snow leopard (eventually to ML). how? when no disk drive or mac store. thanks

I have a macbook air running on OS X 10.5.8. I wish to run on the new mountain lion. I realise that i am currently on leopard which means i have to upgrade to snow leopard or lion before i can get mountain lion. However because i am on leopard, i have no mac store and because i have an air, i have no disk drive. how do i upgrade to snow leopard or lion without these?
Any help would be greatly appriciated. if i've missed something basic im very sorry

Apple confirmed the removal of the software this afternoon, and said that customers can still purchase a copy from its online store's telesales agents.[1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775.]
    Non-Apple sources for Snow Leopard:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
If you call Apple then you should ask about purchasing the Lion USB Flash Drive installer if you want to skip over buying Snow Leopard.
Be sure your model can run Mountain Lion:
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)

    Hi,
I just bought the new 2013 macbook air and I was trying to stream to a flash media server with Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder and Wirecast, but onfortunately both of them say that they can't find a video capture device.
What might be the cause of this?

    Hi Liz,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has steps to try if your Mac isn't recognizing your iPhone 5s:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1591
If that does not help you may also want to try a quick reset of SMC to see if that helps:

  • Clone OSX 10.7.1 Imac to Macbook Air

    Hi,
I have Imac 2011 i7 pre installed with lion and I installed all my softs, the imac is now 10.7.1 build 11B25. I have macbook air (latest generation) and i need to have the same installation so I used utiliy disk to clone the imac to the macbook air. The process works fine until the end but the computer doesn't start.
Do you have any idea so I don't have to reinstall again in the macbook air ?
    Thank's for your help.
    David

Most likely because the build required on the MB Air is later than the one on the iMac. You may have better luck reversing the process (clone the MB Air to the iMac.) Although build-specific versions of OS X don't always work on earlier model. But you can give it a try.
Note that in order to clone the startup volume of Lion you must boot to the Recovery HD to use DU for cloning.

  • Macbook air 2013 osx upgrade

Does anyone know if the new MBA 2013 will have a free upgrade to Mavericks when the new OS X is released?

Depends when you buy it.  Usually, if you buy a Mac within 30 days or less of the announcement of new OS version, you will be allowed a free upgrade.  But if you buy now, and Mavericks is not released until September say, then no, almost certainly you will have to pay to upgrade.
