I want to change the settings (brightness, contrast, gamma) for my internal cam on Macbook pro. I find having to but a third party software (iglasses, webcam settings) to control basic settings as unnecessary and exploitative. Does anyone have a solution?

It is not about payment of $19.95 (Igalsses) or $7.99(webcam settings). This is a very basic setting that should be available in the system settings. The automatic setting of the internal cam does not work great on low lighting as everyone is aware.
i am just amazed how users take in lying down and suggest solutions such as paying for a 3rd party paid app or improving the lighting in your room.

lost my application dvd that came with macbook pro, early 2011. any alternatives to get the applications in that??

I'm not sure how this is an iTunes issue, but anyway, other than buying the apps from the Mac App Store (note that iDVD and iWeb are not available via the App Store), the only alternative is to call Apple support and give them the serial number of your Mac. They can usually sell you a new disk set for a reasonable fee.

  • My built-in camera on Macbook Air is not working

Camera on Macbook Air has become disabled. All applications requiring camer (FaceTime, PhotoBooth, etc) state that "there is no connected camera".

This one stumped me for a while too. Sometimes it would work (usually after a restart) but then would stop working some indeterminant amount of time later. I think another process might be using the camera.
Go to Terminal.app and type in sudo killall VDCAssistant (and enter your admin password; alternatively find the VDCAssistant processing Activity Monitor and stop it that way). This will stop other processes that might be reserving the camera.

  • How to make pictures by the built-in camera of MacBook  Pro?

I don't succeed in making pictures with the built-in camera of  MacBook Pro.
Neither the program i-Photo can be downloaded.
Both items worked perfect when I bought the laptop  a couple of years ago.
    What went wrong?

You can take pictures with "PhotoBooth".
You can use all kind of picture effects as well.

You can try it, but probably not.
This Apple article http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2134 explains that a Firewire-connected, tape-based camera or camcorder mode will work.
If you don't have access to one that works, a simple workaround is to record your video with QuickTimeX Player (the v.10.x one from Lion).  You can import that recorded video into iMovie for editing.
If your Mac OS is earlier than Lion whose QuickTime does not offer movie recording as installed, use QuickTime7 Pro for recording.

  • New to MACs and need help with a built-in video camera in MACBOOK

My mother and father just purchased a new MACBOOK a few weeks ago. They reside in Florida and we live in Indiana. We have a wireless camera that is connected to our wireless router. We call my parents and talk to them while we are on camera so they can see their grandchild.
I just found out their new MACBOOK had a built-in camera and I'm wondering how we can set that up so we can see them at the same time? Our child would love to be able to see his grandparents while we talk to them.
Our wireless camera has a built-in server and runs to a specific spot on our website so they can access it. But I don't know how the MAC works or what to do to tell them to set up the computer so we can see them.
Can someone direct me to some instructions on what I can do or give me some direction? I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks!
    John

I use a Dell Dimension for my computer. I do not use Skype at all. The wireless camera we have on our home network is a Dlink 900. It does not have any sound capabilities so we were not too worried about being able to have a true "video conference" with their laptop. We jsut wanted to be able to see them. I don't know if that video image can be sent to a webpage (like our d-link camera does) or not. Or, maybe there is a much easier way of doing this that I'm not aware of.
    Thanks for your response.

  • The quality of built-in camera on macbook pro with retina display is far worse than any other mac. Why?

I just got the new macbook pro with retina display like a week ago and I've been noticing that the quality of the built-in camera on it is so bad.
It's even worse than my 2009 iMac or my sister's 2012 13" macbook pro. I don't get why this is a facetime HD built-in camera when i can obviously see that is not even near HD. Or is it just my computer. Do i have to bring it to the apple store??

it's advertised 720p so yes it is the same as all the other MBP.  it may just be the resolution of your monitor is stretching the pixels.  Don't worry about bringing it to the apple store.

  • OS 10.4.6 cd came with Macbook

I have tried to install OS 10.4.6 which came with an Intel based Macbook on my PCC G5 imac. However, at the start-up, a warning message showed up on the screen and the machine froze. The message said to turn off machine by pressing the power button.
Is it because the OS cd is just for Intel based Macs? Or do I need to update the firmware of my Superdrive? I could see the word, "Kernel" in fragmented sentences when the machine froze.
    Any advice will be appreciated.

Baby Boomer is right. There are two problems:1-The disks are machine specific, 2-Intel System software is different than PowerPC System software. They are not the same. If you look in the Apple download area for the upgrades, you will see different System upgrades for PowerPC and Intel machines.
    It's a definite no-go.

  • How do I transfer video from camera to MacBook?

I took some video for a friend and want to transfer it from my camera to her MacBook.  My camera manual says I need to use a DV cable to do so, but the Mac Book does not have the correct jack to accept my DV cable.  (I've done this before on my desktop and it does have the correct jack.)   I know there must be a way to do this, since the Mac Book has iMovie and iDVD on it--obviously one should be able to transfer camera footage to it so those programs can be used. What am I missing here?  Thanks.

    Hi,
    This may work.
Copy the video to a memory card or flash drive which has enough capacity and then plug it into other computer.
    Good luck,
    Alan

  • Wireless transfer of photos from camera to Macbook Pro (help)

Im sorry if this might not be the correct place to ask about it but Im going to give it a try.
I know this can be done because professionals are doing it across the globe already.
I just purchased a Canon 50D along with a WFT-E3A wireless transmitter. I shoot professional Lacrosse in Chicago and for the first time will be trying out the possibility of sending photos straight from my camera to my new Macbook Pro. If this works then my next purchase is going to be the WFT-E2 and a Canon 1D MK III to complete the process.
The main idea is that I will be doing shooting all over the arena and just sending them back to my laptop and having my assistant taking care of post processing of them and then uploading to a website.
But now comes the fun part.
Because this is one step above me setting up a normal wireless network like I have at home for me to get onto the internet. I don't really know where to start on setting up a specific network and configuring it to just have the camera and computer "talk" to each other.
My thoughts are that I would like to have one specific network setup for my laptop at the games when shooting. And then just bring it back home and switch it back over to the normal network I have set up to get my internet wirelessly.
I have been talking with several Genius people here in Madison and was told there are two types of networks to set up, Ad Hoc and Infrastructure.
I have been told to set it up an infrastructure network because this is going to give me widest range for me to be further away from my computer.
The question that is puzzling most of the Genius people and myself is this. Should I have one or several base stations placed somewhere in the arena between me and the computer helping me out so I don't lose signal between the two devices?
If that is the case how would I set up the base station in order to relay or transmit the signal from my laptop to my camera?
After I get this portion all set up I think it isn't going to be an issue of getting the camera to talk with my laptop. But that is another issue that I will need to pose to other photographers or maybe a canon rep directly.
    Ok Im all ears now!
    Thanks,
    Ross

There is more than one date that can be associated with an image, and I think you're running into different programs displaying different dates. This is not a comprehensive list but:
Capture date: Date and time the photo was recorded by the camera clock, stored in EXIF camera data.
Created date: Date and time the photo was first saved to disk by photo software on a computer
Modified date: Date and time the edited photo was last saved to disk by photo software on a computer
Archived date: I'm not really sure but I see this in detailed photo information too.
Furthermore, these dates can be stored in various additional date fields in other IPTC metadata sections, and various software might not write or read them in the same ways as other software.
But what I think is going on in your case is that the iPhoto Info panel is displaying the Capture Date from the camera recorded EXIF data, but what you see in the Finder are the Created and Modified dates.
If I'm right, then LexSchellings' column suggestion may not work because all you would get is the File Created date, not the camera recorded Capture Date. I do not know of a way to display camera EXIF capture date in the Finder. Generally, organizing photos using that data is done using a photo management app like iPhoto, Picasa, Apple Aperture, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Bridge, Media Pro, etc., not on the desktop.
If you were able to view the Capture Date in Windows Explorer, then that's an advantage that Windows Explorer (the desktop) had over the Finder. I've seen other cases where the Finder couldn't do something Windows Explorer could, so I wouldn't be surprised.
As far as the duplicates, I don't really know but I did a search at macupdate.com and you might want to check some of these utilities that can help resolve duplicates.
    MacUpdate search on "duplicate photo"
macupdate.com is a great place to look for Mac software if you didn't find it in the Mac App Store.

  • Trying to connect Canon MD101 camera to MacBook Pro

I am trying to connect my Canon MD101 video camera to my MacBook Pro so I can get the videos off it.
I have connected the camera and laptop using a 9-Pin to 4-Pin firewire cable: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001IUM20C/ref=pe_385721_37038051_pe_217191_31005151_ 3p_M3T1_dp_1
You can see the connections in the 2 pictures below.
When I plug in the cable the camera does not appear in Finder or on the Desktop or anywhere that I've looked. I could succesfully connect the camera to my old laptop using a 4-Pin to 4-Pin firewire cable, but my MacBook Pro doesn't have a 4-Pin port.
Does anyone know how I can connect my camera to my MacBook Pro? Am I using the wrong cable or is it just not possible to make this connection? The camera is quite old, bought it in 2007. Any help is appreciated!!
    Rob.

Hi Bob. Yes, I did get it to work and I can now get my videos off the camera and onto my laptop. I use the same cable that i was talking about in the original post.
The camera has to be plugged in to the laptop and turned on. I have my camera set to 'Play' (The power switch on the camera gives a choice of 'Play', 'Off' or 'Camera'). I then open iMovie. In iMovie I go to 'File' then 'Import Media'. A window called 'Import' should open up and then you just click the 'Import' button in the bottom right. I hope this works for you. It's pretty simple, I was just surprised that the camera doesn't appear in Finder.
