No Canon Color Options in 10.7 or 10.8

I'm dismayed to learn that OSX versions after 10.6 (Lions) prevents my adjusting color levels for printing on my nice new Canon PIXMA MP5320 printer.
I've consulted the Canon documentation and spoken with support, and the fact appears to be that the Print Dialogue options where you were able to set greater brightness or contrast, or tweak the color levels to optimize printing are no longer compatible with the newer Mac systems.
This represents a very significant loss of functionality, and I still can't quite believe it.
Is there any possibility that this functionality will be restored in future upgrades?
If not, are their other printer brands that allow for greater printing flexibility regarding color management in OSX 10.7 / 10.8 ?

This blog posting covers what changed in Snow Leopard and Lion. Read also about how to find and install PPD files.

  • Canon MP780 Color Option, Quality and Media, etc crossed out for SOME apps

    Hi,
I have a Canon MP 780 attached to an old G4 macbook (running 10.4.11) that I'm using as a print server via printer sharing. I'm sending print jobs from a MBPro 2.4 GHz Core Duo running Snow Leopard (10.6.2)
Before I updated to Snow Leopard, all the MP 780 printer functions worked perfectly. Now the Color Options, Quality and Media, Duplex Printing, Special Effects, Borderless Printing and Duplex Printing are crossed out for some application, but not for others. For example, I can print in Duplex from Microsoft Word and Pages, but not from Preview or Safari.
If I do the print job directly from the old MB that's acting as the print server, all the options are available, so this seems to be related to either Snow Leopard or printer sharing.
I have downloaded and installed all the latest drives/software I could find in the CanonUSA website.
Any thoughts on how to get these print services up and running for all my applications?
    Thanks!
    Pete

    Hello Pete,
What you are seeing is a result of using a 32bit driver when using a 64bit application. Preview and Safari are 64bit, while MS Word and Pages are 32bit.
The solution is to use a driver that is written for 64bit (or more so the plugins used with the driver, such as Quality & Media, are 64bit). However, checking the Canon web site, there does not appear to be a 64bit driver available for your model.
So, you could look at forcing the 64bit apps, like Preview and Safari, to open in 32bit mode. With the application closed, find its icon in Finder > Application. Select it and perform a Get Info (File > Get Info or Command I). The Info window that appears will have a button that shows 'Open in 32-bit mode'. Tick this checkbox, close the Info window and then open the application. Now you should find that the Canon plugins such as Quality & Media should be available without the line through them.

  • Color option in IPhoto printing

I'm guessing there is no way to use color profiles for specific paper in Iphoto - right?
So, when I'm using the print driver (Canon pixma 6600)what do I set the Color Option to in order to match screen colors? None or ColorSynch or BJ Printer.
Under None and Color Synch the colors are less saturated than screen. Under BJ Printer they are a bit too much saturated.

    Hey
iPhoto does not manage colour per se, rather all colour is managed by Colour Sync (applications/utilities/colorsync utility).
In iPhoto-Preferences-advanced there's a check box for adding a colorsync profile on import. At least in iPhoto 6 there is not sure if iPhoto 5 has it. Either way colour will still be managed through the central color sync engine.
Sorry I can't be more help than that - i use iPhoto for sorting and storage but do all my colour editing in Photohop. iPhoto preserves the camera profiles (or sRGB) so i'm happy!

  • HP ColorLaserJet CP3505X - Relationship between different Color Options

    Hi everybody,
I know this is not exactly the right forum to ask this question, but I've put up the question in the HP Laserjet forum as well as in the Photography forum here and have not received any answer to it. Maybe somebody out here can answer it out of experience with a HP Color Laserjet printer:
Can anybody explain the relationship/interaction between the different Color Options (e.g. in the PCL6 driver) of the CP3505X to me?
    Options available:
    1) Driver Properties
    Color Management:
    Automatic
    ManualDefault Color Profile
    2) Printing Preferences
    Advanced Tab:
    ICM Method
    Disabled
    Handled by Host System
    Handled by Printer
    Color Tab:
    Color Themes
    Default (sRGB)
    Image Optimization
    Adobe RGB
    None
    Custom Profile
What kind of profiles are involved when printing output from an application in which case? The manual is very unspecific about this
    For example:
Under which circumstances is the profile specified under Manual Color Management in the Driver Properties used? And is it the only correction applied under those circumstances?
What profile is being applied when "ICM Handled by Printer" is chosen in the Printing Preferences?
Under which circumstances are the Color Themes specified under the Color Tab used, and under which circumstances are they ignored?
I am completely confused an would appreciate any explanation.
    Thanks

  • PDF printing problems with Canon Color C3220

I'm having an issue with our Canon Color Imagerunner C3220.
When I send a PDF from Acrobat Professional 7.0 from a Mac to the
Canon I get a rule that overprints an image. The image should be
knocking out the rule. When I print from a Windows machine it
prints fine. The PDF also looks fine on screen. Our printer was
just upgraded to a C2 rip which I believe may be the culprit but am
not sure. Canon did some troubleshooting and says the problem lies
with the way the Mac interprets the PDF output going to the Canon.
These PDFs were made from InDesign CS2 and Distiller 7.0. Other
then sending from a Windows machine, does anyone have an idea for a
    Mac fix?

I am seeing the same magenta cast (primarily in areas of yellow tones) when printing to an ip4000 on Photo Paper Glossy II using any of the Canon profiles (I've tried them all, one by one).

  • Change menus to black background and white text (not invert colors option)?

I have an iPhone 5 on the way to me as I got one for a very good price. I am visually impaired. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy s3 which is crapping out on me after having it for a long time). One of the features I love about it is, the menus (settings, contacts, etc etc) are in high contrast (black background with white text, which is much easier on my eyes and easier to read. It is my understandiing that the iPhone is not the same way. I had a friend look on his, and the only option he found was the "Invert colors" option. The reason I don't want to use that is because it inverts ALL colors for everything on the phone, including pictures. t just want to invert the colors in all the menus so I can read them easier. Is there any way to do this? BTW it's running IOS 8.

the invert colors option is the only way to achieve that on iPhone currently
you should go to http://www.apple.com/feedback/ and request that feature added, I think a lot of people would use that

  • Attempting to import C300 footage but Canon XF option is only working intermittently

I have a bunch of directories with C300. They are all named similarly (A1/Contents, A2/Contents, etc). I have tried importing them in Prelude and Premiere through the media browser.
I am able to import some of them correctly, but sometimes the Canon XF option is greyed out and only "file directory" is available.
I was thinking maybe the folder structure was changed somehow, but Final Cut Pro 7 is able to see all of the files correctly.
Do you know what might be going on?
    Thanks!

For me, XF Utility without any doubt since i don't want to transcode the footage.
I transfer the cards with Explorer or Finder and then point XF Utility to the footage to either delete clips and/or create vitrual cards and transfer the files from the card/s to new virtual cards for better file managament. If you use XF Utility to transfer the footage from the camera to a virtual card, it will work and spanned clips will work as expected, so it is not necessary to first transfer the card and it's whole content to the computer. I have used XF utility for years and know that it works with spanned footage and that one can use it to transfer let's say 10 clips from a card in the camera with 100 clips on it. Premiere Pro has no problems to import virtual cards created with XF Utility. Timecode and everything is still there.
Use both methods and decide which one is best for you. (ie XF Utility of Prelude)

  • Can we improve the boring color option offered by Apple?

I am presently evaluating the Mountain Lion software and found little to cheer about. Has anyone noticed how little control we have over the color preferences AGAIN? With Apple, the past leader in graphics and inituitive customer considerations, it is difficult to imagine why Apple has not done a better job in giving its customers more control over color options. Have you noticed how the grays Apple uses, go so well with white   -not-    they don't. Yet there still remains no options to change much color at all with respect to system colors-blue/silver and application controls over colors? When I switched from Gate's disaster to Apple, I was impressed and wondered why I had not done it sooner. Games I guess. PCs did have excellent control over colors in their setup configurations though! One of thr few redeeming traits.
My issue remains with the ability to make the screens more appealing and readable. It's a simple process as we have millions and millions of colors at our finger tips. Even third party designers have treated the lack of color as a sacred cow. Have I missed the point here? Is there something that ordinary customers can do to show more color? Should we have to get into programming to do this? Many people have complained about this with the Mac Pro in the past- easily checked with previous blogs' concerns. I asked Apple to change their philosophy on color absence, but, like others, it seems to have fallen on deaf ears and unconcerned Apple programmers.
Can anyone explain how to change the colors in both apps and system configurations? You would be my hero(s) if you could.

Apple is moving towards a sandboxed world.  All the apps that would allow OS customization are now banned from the Apple Store.  This is a security issue, but I agree Apple could offer more.
There are still some 3rd party apps that allow you customization over the desktop and menu, but those developers are complaining each release gets more restrictive.
Good luck on bringing color back to Mac 1984!

  • PDF optimizer... can't see color option

i have some pdf documents that i want to convert to grayscale.
these files contain multiple rotated masked objects and when converted, the maskings are released.
    i tried couple things.
    - Advanced/Convert Colors...
    - Advanced/Preflight/PDF fixups...
didn't have much luck with it.
so i wonder if i can use Advanced/Optimizer...
but i don't see color option.
how can i turn on color option?
or does anyone know how to convert a pdf to grayscale without messing up the maskins?
    thanks in advance.
fyi. I'm using Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional and in Advanced/PDF optimizer

if you can export your autoCAD drawings as a pdf, open pdf in acrobat pro 8 and try
    Advanced/Print Production/Convert Colors...
    Action - Convert
Profile - Gray Gamma 2.2 or other grayscale profile
    Blending Profile - Leave Unchanged
    Conversion Options - Don't Embed Profile *
    * for some reason, if you embed profile, it won't convert to grayscale. you can check at advanced/print production/output printview by checking off black ink.
    hope this helps.

  • Table component grid color option

    hello,
i'm curious what this option is suppose to do. i have the show grid option checked, and change the color on the grid color option. when i view the grid, i don't see any difference, so i don't know what this option is suppose to change.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thank you
    tracy

Column width and background can be set in the Excel range and then bind table component to display the range.
If you change the Column width of background in the Excel range, you need to rebind the display range to update the format.
    Hope this can help!

  • No "edit colors" option in CS4

I have Illustrator CS4. When attempting to convert a photo I placed, I couldn't find the "Edit Colors" option under Edit. It wasn't there at all (I know some people have had it there, but grayed out). So I tried selecting a vector shape. Still not there. I'm pretty confused, if it was grayed out that'd be one thing but it's completely missing. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you change the workspace layout or edit the keyboard shortcuts? This might somehow affect your menu entries. Anyway, when in doubt --> delete the prefs to reset to factory defaults.

  • How to Get Accurate Canon Colors in photoshop

The Colours in RAW  file in CS6 and comparing it to colours in  RAW file opened in DPP (Canon Software) they will not look the same, even when I use the camera profile in Photoshop is not giving exact colour, I'm using Canon 5D mark III, any help?

There is no such thing as “accurate Canon colors”.
There is a Canon rendering using camera settings and an Adobe rendering using Adobe settings, both starting with the raw sensor data.
Canon settings are only applicable to the Canon software not Adobe’s, and vice versa.

Sounds like you have the print dialog minimised, as shown.
If you click the triangle next to the printer name, this will expand the print dialog and from this view you can see all the menu options as mentioned in the guide.

  • I have lost the photoshop manages color option from my print menu in CS6.

I have lost the photoshop manages color option from my print menu in CS6. It now has colorsync manages color as an option along with printer manages color.  I don't know how to reverse this and I can no longer use my printer with any assurance of accurate color.
What could have caused this & how do I reverse it?

Assuming you have not gone to a newer version of WORD and it is just an update issue, then you should be able to go to the addins in the options of word and enable Acrobat. Sometimes the updates of WORD seem to disable the plugin. Note that the plugin is PDF Maker and shows up in the save as menu as well as an Adobe menu item in WORD. The printer is a separate process and does no require activation.
A repair of Acrobat may also solve the problem.
