No capture for DV Cam

Did a rush job on a borrowed Sony HD HVRV1U and used mini-DV tapes which ran 45min each. on DVCAM format.
But FCP won't recognize it for capture, checked the manual and I tried various solutions (manual isn't that helpful). Would like to find out what else I can try,

Shot with Sony HVR V1U preset to DVCAM (but I used mini-DV cassettes which still should be fine) and am capturing, or attempting to capture to FCP.
I wonder if I should try capturing from my older Sony mini-DV camera???

  • A good miniDV camera for footage capture for FC6?

I've got a Macbook Pro and FC6 and I'm looking to buy a miniDV camera just for the purpose of capturing my footage. I'm looking for a cheap camera, like the Samsung SC-D382, but don't know what sort of specifications to look for. Can I use a USB cable to capture footage, or does it need to be a 6 pin firewire cable? Also, does anyone have any recommendations regarding cheap but good cameras for capturing? Thanks!

look for a camera that also has A/V inputs and will pass them through to firewire. That way, if the need arises, you can capture from an analog source such as a VCR (archiving, perhaps). This is a great budget solution, as dedicated D/A converters can cost as much as or more than a cheap miniDV camera.

The GH4 must be very new as it’s not listed in Adobe’s supported cameras, so wait until the next version of LR.  Usually there is one every 3-4 months with a release-candidate available at Adobe Labs before that:  http://labs.adobe.com/

  • Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac

After talking with a bunch of salesmen (considering getting a DvD writer), I took the advice of someone in the Apple Store and bought a Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac to copy my laserdiscs. It was $100 before tax, and didn't do stuff I don't plan on doing anyway. I did spend another $25 to get an S-video cable.
I installed the software and connected it up to my LD. I started capturing the movie, and selected S-Video (although in the small window they showed, I didn't see any difference between that and video out. I selected a max time from a limited selection, and let it record.
After a while, I went downstairs and saw that the audio and video were not synchronized at all. I let it continue.
After a while I came down again, and the movie was finished, so I stopped it. I found the MP4 - it was in the iTunes movie directory, and played it in iTunes. I fast-forwarded it to near the end, the voice and video were way off-set.
I haven't tried burning this yet.
Quicktime player doesn't think this is a valid movie file. I selected "open with" and "other" and the recommended applications had iMovie greyed out.
Why in the world would the audio and video record at different speeds?
Do I have to buy software to edit the movie down to the correct size?
    My Mac has:
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
    SMC Version: 1.21f4
I noticed the Pinacle Video Capture program was still running, so I tried to quit it, and got a window asking for my administrator ID and passsword to allow Pinnacle Video Capture to make changes. Why?

The audio drifted out of sync because the Dazzle doesn't support locked audio. For short videos (say, under 10 minutes) this won't be very noticeable but when you capture longer videos it becomes progressively worse over time.
What do you want to do with your Laserdisk copies? Watch them on your iPod? Edit and/or burn to DVD?
A device like the Canopus ADVC-110 will do the video/audio conversion properly, keeping the audio and video in sync regardless of the length of your video. It converts to DV, not to MP4, and you would use it with iMovie or Final Cut (not iTunes). However you can export your video from iMovie or Final Cut to iPod/AppleTV formats.
The Dazzle device will not work directly with iMovie or Final Cut.
ps. If all you really want to do is transfer your Laserdisc videos to DVDs, it will be a whole lot faster & simpler to get a DVD player/recorder that has analog inputs and record directly to DVDs. There are many brands & models to choose from and many good ones are as inexpensive as the $100 you spent on the Pinnacle converter.

  • Nikon Capture NX or Camera Raw

Using Nikon Capture NX, Camera Raw best for photos?

Indeed different profiles have different ways of handling things, especially at the extremes - especially when one or more channels is clipped.
In addition to comparing profile behavior, consider the point curve in ACR - @Lr4 we can now reshape the curves on a channel by channel basis, and that way fix many of these types of problems - admittedly such changes may need to be done uniquely for each photo.
And of course if (Adobe Standard) profile needs a tweak for handling such end cases, Adobe may be open to that... - if not for older cameras (in which case such a tweak might change the appearance of already-edited photos), at least for newer ones.

  • Density Difference from Capture One to Camera Raw

In Capture One 6.3.4, my backgrounds read 253-255. When I open the RAW file in Camera RAW 7.1, the background reads 241-245. Profile is the same (Adobe RGB). Suggestions to have the file read the same in Camera RAW? Thanks.

I believe its b/c Capture One and Camera Raw have different color profiles for the same cameras. So the same eyedropper spot in one wouldn't match the other. Color profiles for the specific camera not Adobe 1998, sRGB, etc. I prefer Capture One over Camera Raw because of the camera profiles from Phase One - I feel that they are a much better starting point for processing images. The color feels more natural to me. Why are you viewing raw files in both applications?

  • Capturing images from camera and uploading to sharepoint library automatically.

    Hello Everyone,
My requirement is to capturing images from camera and uploading to sharepoint library automatically. No manual uploading will take place.
    Please suggest me.
    Thanks,
    Rajesh

    Hi,
From your description, my understanding is that you want to capturing images from camera and uploading to sharepoint library automatically automatically upload images to SharePoint library.
You will save images in your local computer after capturing visitors’ image. You could develop a custom timer job to periodically get pictures from the local folder in your computer. Please refer to this article:

you could upload pictures to your SharePoint from the folder with C# code, please refer to this article:

  • For which camera model is Aperture the best RAW converter?

Most of you will agree that Aperture's workflow can hardly be beaten. Most of you will also agree that there is indeed some potential for further improvement concerning support of different camera models and in the over all image quality of the RAW conversion engine.
Reading the numerous postings I get the idea that many people believe to get at least slightly better results when doing the RAW conversion with some other software than Aperture.
Speaking for my own experience with the Olympus E-1 (which is on the list of fully supported DSLRs) the results from Adobe PS CS2/ACR or Lightroom with seperate tools for sharpening and noise reduction (if necessary) are noticeable superior to what I can get from Aperture - but I am sure that the situation will be better with other camera models.
So who of you is totally happy with what Aperture squeezes out of his RAW files and what camera do you use? Have you done comparisons with other RAW converters to be sure Aperture does the best job?
    Oliver
PPC mini, PM Quad 4,5 GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I currently use a Canon 20D and a Canon 1Ds MKII for my work. I am happy with the conversion results for both cameras. I have use Capture One Pro for my conversions in the past. However, with Aperture's workflow and RAW conversion capabilities, I am using it fulltime.
I really don't think that Aperture's RAW conversion is currently that bad, and I think it will only get better and better with time. To be blunt, I think that most complaints about the rendering quality of Aperture are a bit over-hyped. In fact, I would even say that in many cases, it's end-user error or system configuration that results in poor image quality.
I would not have said this prior to version 1.1.2, but Apple has managed to greatly improve the rendering quality.
    Just my two cents.

    Hello,
This is a very generic error and the cause depends on the API call that is generating the error. What API is causing the error?
If I remember correctly photo mode and video streaming mode are mutually exclusive. Try setting the PhotoCaptureSource to VideoPreview.
    I hope this helps,

  • Ni-imaq for 1394 camera support for sony dv cameras

    Hello,
I am wondering if there is any way to capture images from my sony mini dv recorder (DCR-PC101 NTSC) to Labview.  Is it possible through ni-imaq for 1394?
    Thank You.

    Hi charliec,
Support for mini dv cameras is not currently available with the IMAQ 1394 driver.  The only way to access the files captured by the camera are to download them to disk then open them with LabVIEW (or some other programming environment).

  • Capture live from camera

    Hi guys,
I was trying to capture some footage straight from camera but it won't let me do it when I pressed the capture now button. It kept on treating the log and capture as if its capturing from tape. It was asking for the camera to be turned into vtr mode. I have done this before but I can't remember what I've done differently to make it work.
Any suggestion will be greatly appreaciated.
    Thanks guys.

You might have done it before, but never with final cut pro... try using Quicktime for live capture.
James, you sure about that? I can capture live by setting the L&C window to a non-controllable device and hitting capture now. That way FCP is not looking for something like a VTR to control, it just accepts whatever signal is present on the FW bus.

  • FCP 7 no longer supports device control for sony cameras?

I recently tried to capture some HDV footage from my Sony HVR-A1U miniDV camcorder in FCP 7.  It's been a little while since I used this camera, but I am certain that the last time I used it to capture footage it was a controllable device.
I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, can anyone comment if this rolled-back device control for Sony cameras?  It wants me to capture as a "Sony Firewire device" which is listed under "non-controllable devices"  I am 100% certain I've previously logged timecode and batch captured with this computer and camera.
It initializes the camera just fine, but it captures with no control, as in "capture now."
    I'm on FCP 7.0.3 on a 2 X 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel OSX 10.6.8.
I've tried all the usual re-starting FCP and the device and plugging in/un plugging iLINK cable etc.
Does anyone have a work-around?  I'm not crazy for thinking this used to be possible, right?  Should I roll back to Tiger if I want to use this camera?

I'm on FCP 6.0.6 using OS 10.6.8.  Not using that Sony camera, but the Sony Z7U.  I know this is comparing apples to oranges.  But I can log and capture as a controllable device.  I'm thinking your problem is related to something else besides the OS being 10.6.8.
Have you repaired permissions after you upgraded?

  • Capturing directly from camera

I'm using Premiere Pro and I'm having trouble capturing video directly from my camera. I have all the proper connections and the video preview shows up in the capture window, but when I click the record button, it gives me a recorder error saying "Can't find capture inpoint. Try increasing preroll." I have tried increasing the preroll to no avail. I have also tried capturing from the camera using a tape in VCR mode, using it like a tape deck, and I get the same error. Any ideas?

From what camera with what connection with which sequence settings on which OS with which version of PR, to just name a few of the missing pieces of info.

  • Video recording software for Logitech camera

    Hello,
I want to know if I can attach my Logitech camera to my PowerBook G4 to RECORD surveillance video.
Is my old laptop compatible with Logitech? (I presently have this camera connected to my MINI drive for skype).
If it is compatible, would you recomend a video recording software, I can use for my G4?
Please let me know if surveillance video recording is possible using my powerbook!
    Thanks!

The only software that I know of which will work with 10.3 is Debut Video Capture for Mac or EchoFX
I believe they are paid versions, but do come with a trial version. There is nothing I've seen on the Open Source market for video capture.
There is a link here on how to use  Quick time broadcaster, that you could adapt it to record security footage I'm sure.
